I had VSG on July 1st, and upon a trip to the ER on the 5th due to EXTREME pain it was discovered I have a leak. I was taken back into surgery that night and a drain was placed, my surgeon also attempted to repair the leak with glue but it did not hold. I had a PICC placed the 6th and have been NPO since the 5th. It's really a waiting game trying to get my body to heal and my white blood cell count under control so I can go home. This is horrible, I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

Sleeved on 9-27 with no known problems. Follow up on the 10th showed I was dehydrated so I got two bags of Fluid and went home. 11th I was trying to get all my liquids is and after second bottle of Water I had chills so bad so I took temp and have a mild temp of 100.5 (230 pm). By 315 my temp was up to 102.8 so I called Dr and they asked me to come in. 2 more bags of fluid later my temp was not down and my heart rate was staying steady at 114-116 so they admitted me to hospital. Catscan revealed an air pocket outside the stomach that fluids were going into and then back. Now I have a picc line for nutrition/hydration and standing by to see if it will heal itself. This whole time I was thinking I'd be here a couple days max but it is sounding like a long term deal from everything I am reading, please pray for improvement on next Catscan I don't want to go thru another surgery if at all possible!

Is my course of treatment for my leak the norm?
tiffanylovesthebeach posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved on 12/10/13 and went to the ER on 12/21/2013 with 103.2 fever, fast heart rate, dehydration, etc. During this visit, a contained leak was discovered. I had a NG tube placed and stayed in the hospital for 12 days, eventually transitioning over to a feeding tube. I went home on the feeding tube and was re-imaged 8 days later. The swallow test showed the leak was healed, so my feeding tube was removed and I started on a liquid diet. Three days into the liquid diet, I started having intense left arm/shoulder/breast pain and knew something was wrong. I went back to the ER and again, I was leaking and it was bigger this time. I went for an endoscopy to see if the leak could be clipped off or glued. The doctor was not able to locate the leak, stating it must be pin hole sized. I stayed in the hospital for 7 days and came home on a feeding tube and IV antibiotics through a PICC line. I have to continue this treatment for 4 weeks, then get re-tested. The Surgeon says the next step, if this whole plan fails, is to insert a stent....... From what I have heard, this is not very comfortable. If you have had a leak, would you please share your treatment course with me? I am wondering if the treatment I am undergoing is the norm. Thanks in advance for all of your feedback. Tiffany -

It has been a long road. After 2 1/2 weeks POST OP I started full liquid diet. Then came the Left shoulder pain and fever up to 103. I was back in the hospital with a small encapsulated Leak. 5 days in the hospital and home. Healing slowly. I was NPO for over 2 weeks on home TPN with a PICC line. After one week of a clear diet and one week of full liquids, Now today 7 weeks post op I am on a soft diet. Tried fish. Yuck! Not sure what I want and worried what might be a problem. Anyone Have any favorites that go down well?
