I found this recipe in complete bariatric cookbook and meal plan. Thank goodness because I can’t do those sweet shakes no mo. Green Machine Protein Shake. It’s lightly tart and tangy. I taste the green apple essence and it’s creamy. Yum!

I am researching Naked Whey protein powder, Nutricost or Quest? I need a good protein powder for my post run midday meal. I usually eat my lunch but there are times where my lunch is a little bit too heavy.

I had surgery on 12/2. I started my preop diet on 11/15. The entirety of the last 6 weeks has been nothing but just protein powder. Premixed protein drinks. Clear protein. I am to the point where I can actually no longer stomach any amount of protein drink. They have started making me nauseated. And a lot of it is that I have to take my time with them and I can't just down them quickly like I used to. So far I have tried: -All of the fairlifes. These used to be my absolute fav. So far, the regular nutrition plan 30g protein chocolate ones are the best, but hard for me to find, especially in bulk. The strawberry/strawberry banana ones and vanilla ones are way too sweet. -A lot of premier protein flavors are gross to me. They were gross before surgery and are extra gross now. Same with MuscleMilk brand. -I have unflavored Isopure that I put into a lot of things, and this is fine as long as someone else makes whatever I am drinking and doesn't tell me that they put protein powder in it. It's like I can immediately tell, which tells me this is mostly mental. -Dutch chocolate isopure powder. Okay, but still protein powder-ish. -Isopure clear drinks. So far these have been my favorites, but it's a lot of liquid for me to take in, 3x a day, especially when I'd just prefer plain ice water. -H2Protein: sometimes these are too sweet, sometimes they are okay. I just ordered some of the protein shots in hopes that maybe the 3oz size will make it easier to get my protein goals, which have been severely suffering these last two weeks. Any advice?

When to stop drinking protein shakes?
AnV1986 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello! My surgery was September 9th, 2024, and I am still currently drinking one protein shake per day (Fairlife - 30 grams). I am wondering when I should give this up? It's not like I can't stand the drink, I actually like it still after all this time surprisingly. It's just that they are so darn expensive and kind of a pain in the rear to get (my mom orders from Sam's for me to save some $). I feel it's become a part of my normal daily routine but when did everyone else give them up?? It's been almost 5 months now. -
Bone Broth Powder Protein vs. Whey Isolates
KimBaxleyWilson posted a topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I'm currently debating proteins with my husband. LOL He's sold on bone broth protein powder, but I keep reading about whey isolate. Which is better for bariatric patients?? -
What is the best shake flavor that you guys seem to have came across and works the best for you? there's so many kinds, and flavors, brands and everything in between. I reallllly like AdvoCare Chocolate. Pre op/ Post op I just want to keep my options open and if we can keep it online shoppable that would be lovely.

can you live entirely off protein the shakes??
Bessieboop1981 posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi guys, I wondered if any of you have decided to completely given up conventional food and have protein / meal replacement shakes instead post op. I have heard that this is absolutely fine to do as long as you are taking your supplements and drinking plenty of water. What's your thoughts/experiences? -
Just had my second follow up with my Dr. (who I'm not very impressed with anymore) and would like some help figuring out how to get all my protein needs in. I am supposed to get 80g a day but only eat 3 times a day 5 hours apart, no snacks, and I can only physically eat 4oz at a time Not allowed cheese or protein shakes, I don't really like yogurt. No added carbs that aren't already in food ( which isn't that big of a problem). I am also supposed to be adding vegetables in but don't see how I can eat vegetables and get my protein. I just requested a meeting with a dietician and hope they can help. Just a little discouraged after my appointment and needed to vent.

Does anyone have any personal experience using any egg-white powders for protein, specifically in cooking or adding to other foods in lieu of other protein powders? I'm looking at NOW's egg white powder and a couple of Canadian brands (Muskoka Mornings & Canadian Protein), but if you've successfully tried another brand I'm all ears. Do you find the eggy taste strong or mild when you use it mixed in other items? How hard is it to dissolve? What did you use it in? I've read mixed reviews on both aspects across a few different brands now -- some people saying it takes a lot of 'elbow grease' to dissolve and still has a strong eggy texture, others saying they barely notice it. Specifically, I'm having trouble getting enough protein at breakfast time. Due to my meds schedule, I can't have dairy/calcium until 10/10:30, but I eat breakfast around 7am. Usually it's a high protein cereal and almond milk, or lately oatmeal made with almond milk or water -- but the oatmeal is usually 6g of protein or lower, and the cereal nets out to about 8. I've tried adding my usual protein powders but -- of course -- most the ones I can stand are whey-based. Not to mention, the texture when added to my oatmeal is just ugh. (I've got so many texture issues lately, ugh). Basically I'm looking for another option I can add to oatmeal (sweet or savoury). ((I've tried peanut butter powder these past two days and it's good -- just not something I can handle every day. I'm experimenting later this week with some other seeds & nuts, but most of them are too high fat for me as the first meal of the day and just don't offer enough protein. I've also gotten some chickpeas, I've heard that mashing some up and mixing it into the oatmeal before cooking will work as it has a bland enough flavour to not stand out and will come out roughly the same as oatmeal. That's tomorrow's experiment XD)) Any opinions are greatly welcomed!!

Liquid Diet after RNY - Protein
PositiveMom posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did you add extra protein powder to your liquid intake or sprinkle protein powder on your sugar-free jello or popsicles to get extra protein? It is flavorless but I really do not care about the taste just want to get enough protein in. -
Broth with unflavored protein gel supplement.
JanineMMM posted a topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Has anyone tried putting protein gel supplements into any kind of broth. I’m weary of everything being milk and fruit based. -
My sleeve surgery was a few years ago and apparently some things have changed. I got some of the premiere vanilla shakes that I drank immediately pre and post op and I couldn’t even get a whole one down. I remembered that I did get sick of them and I switched to their clear protein drinks but apparently they are not as popular because they aren’t as readily available. I was thinking something from the grocery store makes more sense so I can get it if I’m out and about plus I don’t have to buy it by the case. Does Anyone have any favorites. I don’t like peach or orange.

Brown Rice protein powder - can anything be done with it?
JennyBeez posted a topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Does anyone use brown rice protein powder, specifically the unflavoured & unsweetened variety? I bought a small sample from my local bulk health food store, along with a larger amount of pea protein powder. I knew what to expect from the pea protein powder as I've had it before in years past, but I was unprepared for the smell, taste, aftertaste and immense chalky-ness of the brown rice powder. I've tried it in a few different things now (oatmeal, shakes and smoothies), and most of them had to be pitched entirely; I was able to choke down the smoothie I made with it but it was still unpleasant. Online blogs suggested almond milk and unsweetened cocoa powder to combat the chalky texture -- both did nothing for me. I tried PB powder, regular fairlife milk, thickening the smoothies with bananas or avocado, greek yogurt, etc. I still have a little under 500ml left, and I'm tempted to just give up and throw it away. It's one of those vicious thought cycles: I hate to waste food by throwing it away, but I hate to waste other foods by trying to combine them and getting the same result lol. If anyone has a method to using this while masking basically everything about it, I'm all ears. Can you bake with it? I've had mixed results baking with other protein powders in the past and am honestly mildly exhausted just thinking about it. XD (I apologize with harassing you all with my constant protein supplement queries. Egg protein was a miss for me, but pea protein is a morning-time lifesaver for me.) -
Hi all...I am just starting my journey to getting gastric bypass surgery. I met with a Registered Dietician yesterday and she discussed the importance of having several protein shakes every day. Here's my problem....I cannot stomach anything sugar-free. I have such a hard time with aspartame, sucralose, stevia, etc. Any unflavored protein powder suggestions?

Can’t stomach premier protein after op - any recommendations?
-
Please ignore. It was misinformation online. I was concerned if they had a lot of iron that the calcium chew I was taking with them wouldn’t absorb as well but I checked the actual shake and it doesn’t have iron. It does have 650mg of calcium though so if I don’t take the multi with it I may be able to save some money on calcium chews. It’s calcium casenite. Just need to figure out if that is a form of calcium that we absorb post surgery.

Any idea to make liquid diet. More palatable ? How can one amp proteins in sugar free jello pudding for example other than using fairlife and adding whey

I recently tried the Bariatric Pal's Honey Nut Protein Cereal. I don't think I would waste my $$ on it again. It is expensive. $15 for 7 small envelopes.

I tried unflavored protein powder in the hospital. Made my broth taste and smell like dog food. Lord forgive me. Lol I just couldn’t. It was the nestle brand. Beneprotein. Any suggestions for a better unflavored protein?

Has anyone had experience with needing to take amino acid supplements because most of the 'complete' protein powders they are unable to have? I'm pre-surgery but allergic to the whey protein in milk, and in trying some other protein powders, found that soy, pea, and egg protein powders cause digestive havoc of the TMI variety. I've found that collagen protein powder and hemp protein powder I am perfectly fine with, but I know collagen is missing one of the essential amino acids and hemp protein while complete is low on the essential amino acids. The dietician seem flustered that I can't have whey protein and I've not been able to find anyone talking about using amino acid supplements to make an incomplete protein complete. Also totally open to other suggestions for protein in the weeks pre- and post-surgery while on the liquid diet.

What is your favorite way to get protein?? I drink protein shakes, eat fish and other meats. Anyone have another way they like to get their protein??

This was really good. I cut the recipe in half and it’s still more than enough for one but not sure you could make much less in the blender and get any out. I didn’t think about it this time but I bet it would be good with the quest protein chips. I forgot the taco seasoning at first and it was good that way too. https://foodwithfeeling.com/cottage-cheese-queso/

I started my liquid diet today but the protein shakes, no matter the brand make me nauseous and gag. Does anyone have any tips?
