Now I know a lot of people will probably tell me off here, in that Halloween hasn't even happened, and I am talking about Christmas ๐คฃ BUT, I adore Christmas, and I realised that this will be my first Xmas post-surgery. Has anyone got any advice as to how to still feel included in all the festivities when so much revolves around food etc? I still feel excited for it, I just know it is going to be SO different to all the other years! ๐

Has anyone ever gone to ALO Bariatrics in Tijuana, Mexico? Iโm interested in having the modified duodenal switch. Just wanted to know what your experience was like there. Any issues with the hospital? Did you feel safe having your procedure done there?

Hiring an independent bariatric dietician
SecretAgentDD posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all. Im 7 weeks post op as of today. Iโm curious if anyone has hired an independent bariatric dieticianโฆ in other words, someone outside of your surgeonโs office to support you? I am not really satisfied with the level of support that I am getting from my surgeonโs office. Iโd like at least a weekly or bi-weekly check in with someone and to discuss goals and things I can work towards. When I asked my surgeonโs office at my last follow up appointment if I was where I should be weight loss wise, I didnโt really get much of an answer. I asked where I should be at my three month follow-up and she couldnโt find her chart. So I never got an answer. I live in an area where I havenโt been able to find any support groups locally. Iโve located someone online with a wealth of experience in working with bariatric patients and is a certified dietitian. She works primarily online with patients. I am hesitant to move forward based on the price. Just curious if anyone has had luck with this or has any thoughts about it? I havenโt decided against it, just hesitant due to cost. -
Has anybody had surgery in Mexico bariatric Center in Tijuana Mexico? Could you share your experience? Thinking abt getting a revision DS there.

Liver Function Tests and Bariatric Surgery
MrsFitz posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
EughโฆI have to have 3-monthly blood tests as I have Methotrexate injections for Rheumatoid Arthritis. Iโve been on Methotrexate for 12 years now. Occasionally thereโs a blip in my liver function test but this is generally when Iโve been unwell as the slightest thing can change my results. Anyway, I made a cock-up on my test 2 weeks ago. It was Bank Holiday Weekend and I had a couple of drinks on the Saturday and then more on the Sunday. I can count on one hand how many times weโve been out this year and I donโt drink at home unless itโs a glass of champagne before we go out to dinner for example. Anyway, I wasnโt thinking and did my jab as normal on the Monday and then my bloods on the Tuesday. This resulted in a phone-call from a Rheumatology Nurse on Wednesday saying my liver function test levels were way, way up, what had I been doing? I was honest and said Iโd been out at the weekend and had my jab when I should have left it a week and then had my bloods after. So, I had to miss the next two weeks jabs and have my bloods again which was yesterday. Phone-call today - levels have dropped some but still high. It was then a mass of questions - had I been drinking? No. Any infections? Not that I know of. Any โherbalโ ingestion (erโฆwhat???) No. Any NSAIDS? No. The list was endless and she sounded completely disbelieving of me, which has pissed me off no end. Could I miss my jab this week and have my bloods again on Monday? No. Weโre out for our anniversary dinner on Sunday and there will be alcohol so it would be pointless. I did offer to have them on Friday but she said it wouldnโt be enough time for things to reduce. Now I have to have my bloods again in 2 weeks. It turns out that my levels have been creeping up for the past few months but no one had told me. She did tell me that the other things Iโm tested for are all good (4 things in total so only be of them is bolloxed) Iโm not happy, especially as Iโve been managing my condition and medication for 12 years. I drank more often earlier in my treatment and never had any issues. My worry is that this could affect my WLS journey. I know I may be worrying over nothing but the worry is still there. It may be that my liver has just had enough of the Methotrexate (as itโs a poison - lovely) and itโs time to stop it. Anyway, Iโm not asking for advice, more a rant โน๏ธ I will now do some research on how to deal with toxins in the liver and how to reduce them. Sighโฆ -
Let's Talk GRIEF! An ongoing thread about bariatric grief!
Mspretty86 posted a topic in Rants & Raves
I think it's always Good to talk about GRIEF and anger. Yesterday I was driving around Houston Texas running errands and the overwhelming grief took hold. If anyone has visited Texas you know our food is TOP tier so much seasoning so much flavor. I grieve not pulling in the drive thru after shopping. (Taco Bell, What-A-Burger, Shipleys Donuts)! I GRIEVE OUR ever so plentiful TACO TRUCKS at 2am where I would order 10 street tacos and a burrito with the red/green sauce I grieve boba TEA I grieve the comforts I grieve just being able to drink alot at one time. Who knew that a few sips of water could make you so full In noticing the griefs you become aware of how addicted you were to the food and the feeling. Sighs*- 55 replies

Hi all, I had been on Wegovy for weight loss, and it almost completely silenced my food obsession. I stll got hungry and enjoyed my food, but I wasn't thinking about it all the time. My insurance no longer covers wegovy, so I've started on the bariatric surgery pathway. My question is, will surgery work in the same way? Will that voice be silenced? TIA!

Hi All! Alex has graciously allowed me to post once about my dating site for weight loss surgery patients. I designed this site after input from several friends who have had weight loss surgery, myself included. Many of us are new to dating and just discovering ourselves and dating in general is hard enough, let alone after weight loss surgery. I thought it would be a great idea to bring men and women together who have both had some type of weight loss surgery. We all want to stay on track and we all fear regaining the weight we've worked so hard to lose. Finding someone with similar goals and interests would be great for long term success. www.loveafterwls.com was born! loveafterwls.com is NOW totally FREE! If you were a previous paying member, please unsubscribe and rejoin as a FREE member. Our site offers personal profiles with up to ten pictures, blogging, instant messaging, forums and more. Like all new dating sites, it will take awhile to grow our membership but come on in, fill out your profile, start a blog if you wish and help build this dating site into something great! Please tell your friends, especially men. We currently have a lot more women on the site than men. Visit www.loveafterwls.com for more information! Thanks

Iโve been going back and forth and have decided to go with the sleeve because itโs covered by insurance and the procedure I had wanted, the sadi-s would cost me $20,000 because of my BMI. I hope this is the right choice.

Core Bariatric by Dr. Maria Iliakova and Tammie Lakose - this one is interesting because it's a bariatric surgeon and her very first bariatric patient. It's a new podcast that started this year, so not a lot to catch up on. No Guts No Glory by Allyson and Cortni - both of these ladies had bariatric surgeries. One had the sleeve and the other had the diversion with duodenal switch. So they share about the upsides, the downsides, and everything else. -

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
- 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk
- 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer)
- 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream)
- 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar
- 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate)
- 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken)
- 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day.
- 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well.
Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
