Where does mushroom and poultry with skin go? Soft or regular?
Penguin733 posted a topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
So I'm currently creating my grocery list for next week when I land on soft foods, and I was curious when do I get to eat mushrooms? As that's one of my favorite vegetables and I see that they're bariatic safe online but nothing that says when I can eat them. I'm also curious about chicken/turkey wings, as I have an air fryer I figured that'll be an easy way to have a "fried" fixing since I can do up the skin perfectly crisp. Is that okay too at the soft stage? -
I had very recently just become so proud of my skin. In May, when I started dieting, I was so happy because my hormonal (menopause) chin acne disappeared and some small flaky, dry patches on my cheeks went away. My skin was looking and feeling so great! Before this summer I'd NEVER (and I just turned 49, I know, I know, BAD ME!) used any skin care products. I had no routine. I'd just apply my makeup and then remove it when I washed my face. This was daily. This summer I started feeling my mortality because my 49th birthday was July 2nd. I was TikTok influenced and bought the Loreal Revitalift eye serum, face serum, and moisturizer. The products, along with the weight loss REALLY helped my skin. It looked so great and I was even complimented on it by my sisters. But then... About 3 days ago, I noticed my skin was getting little dry, flaky spots on my cheeks. Also, I've got a little bit of that hormonal chin acne, not a lot, but still. Ugh! =( I'm trying to figure out what's causing it. I read that an overload of certain vitamins (B12 was specifically mentioned) will cause the dry, flaky skin. Not only that, they can also cause non-diabetic Acanthosis nigricans! I'm worried and I really hope that all the vitamins I have to take now aren't going to cause my skin to look like crap again. I may be losing my mind, but I have a small patch on my neck that's sometimes itchy and feels like acanthosis when I touch it. Even my daughter noticed it. I've never been diabetic. I can't imagine actually getting acanthosis now due to my new diet/vitamin/supplement routine that's supposed to be for life. Ideas? Thoughts? Suggestions? Experiences?

I can easily explain to curious kids why I have cute wobbly angel wings under my arms. But I haven’t figured out a positive name for the leg wobbles. I explained “melted ice cream” but it was not satisfying. Angel legs anyone? There has to be a better comeback. The weather is hot and the kids often go home relating to parents “the most interesting thing of the day.”

I’ve lost 125 lbs since my RNY and am seeking advice about treating sagging skin on the face. It’s really bothering me so I know eventually I’ll have something done. I’m wondering what other WL patients have done to treat sagging skin on the face. I.e.: lower face lift? full face lift? Fillers? Radiofrequency treatment? Micro needling? Any advice would be most welcome and greatly appreciated!!!

So - here is the real reason I stumbled into this forum tonight. Has anyone else noticed that their skin has a very bitter taste? That sounds a little weird. It's not like I go around licking my skin, but I do touch my lips with my fingers more than I realized. At first, I chalked it up to hand sanitizer and then my hand soap. But I use several different types of soap throughout the day. And I admit, I tasted my hand soaps and lotions to see if that was my problem. Nope. So, then, in addition to tasting funny(???), yesterday everything started smelling like there was coat of fuel on it. I was in my car when I first noticed it - the car is only a little over a year old - so I checked to see if the air intake was set to outside air. It would make sense. I live in a city and there are always stinky vehicles around. But, nope. It was on recirculating inside air. Then I notice it at home. I was tempted to check to make sure the pilot lights were still lit in my stove. But nope again. I have an electric stove. My next avenue to explore might be a vitamin or mineral deficiency of some sort. Please feel free to "weigh in" on the topic.

So now, my loose skin is bothering me :(
maintenanceman posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I got a plastics consult today, and the doctor showed me how much loose skin I have. It really hit me hard. I knew I had loose skin, but I didn't realize how much. I thought there was maybe some residual fat, but he showed me how it's all loose skin. The problem is, plastic surgery is expensive (especially here in Southern California). I could do it, but it would be a financial burden, for sure. Or, I would have to travel for surgery to a cheaper part of the country (or Mexico), which worries me. This journey has been so positive for me, and I hate that this insecurity has entered the picture. Any insight or words of wisdom? -
Dry Skin / Skin Peeling Post-Op
greekgoddess2468 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone! I’m about 6 months out from surgery and I’ve started to notice my skin getting super dry & peeling almost. It’s really only on my hips area and my lower stomach area. It’s not like your typical sunburn peeling but it’s definitely minimal peeling of some sort, caused by my skin being dry. I use cream & oil every night in those areas because I thought it was dehydration but it doesn’t seem to go away so I’m wondering if it’s a side effect of gastric? Has anyone else experienced this? Thank you! :) -
Loose Skin Concerns* Please help if you have experience

I go in for the DS surgery tomorrow 5/11. Is there anything I should be taking or things I should be doing post surgery to try and combat a little bit of loose excess skin? Anything I can do or take? I'm 26 yo. -
Hi , I am planning to get gastric sleeve and i am concerned about loose skin after weightloss. i am a 250lbs , 6ft height male . How did u all deal with loose skin?

So, I had my rou-y/gastric bypass on May 15, 2018 but have a ton of excess skin now considering I lost 153 pounds. Went from 365 to now 212. But between the lipedema, the rashes/infections/excess skin and being in severe pain from stage 3 lipedema it's becoming hard for me. My legs swell a lot and is becoming a hassle. I do have a GoFundMe because I cannot afford all of the 3 surgeries needed to get my life back. I saved like $8,000 - $10,000 of my own money but it isn't enough for everything and getting lipedema surgeries covered by insurance is very hard or not able to be covered at all. I have medicaid and they don't have much of nothing for lipedema all of my treatments so far I have been paying myself which also have gotten me into debt. Note: GoFundMe is at bottom. I don't know where else to post. So I'm posting this the most places I can. https://gofund.me/b1365ea1

Let us talk loose skin and muffin tops
omrhsn posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I've lost almost 65 kg so far and very happy with my progress. My mid-section was the largest and still is. Before the WLS I had big thighs and even bigger bum but not so much fat on my upper body. Hopefully I will continue to lose more weight (I've 15 Kg to go) and it will come out of my thighs. The bum is almost gone lol. My question is about the loose skin and muffin tops. I can wear size 34" pants (down from 54") now which will fit nicely but will end up with a muffin top and loose skin draping over the belt. I'm not too concerned about the loose skin in my forearms or thighs since it is not that visible. Is there anything that can be done to improve / reduce the loose skin on my belly other than surgery? Workout maybe? I'd also love to hear about your experiences on this. -

Post Op Skin Care - How do I minimize skin issues?
Nadae posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello everyone! I’ve just had my sleeve surgery on January 8th of this year and if it helps, I’m 32 years old. I’m less than one week post op and I can already see my skin changing and getting flaky from dehydration. My fluid intake is improving so all is well. What I would really love to know is how can I take care of my skin to minimize dry patches, loss skin, stretch marks,…etc. I think the early I tackle this, the better 😂 Your advice and experience will help me so much - please share any products, habits, vitamins, supplements, exercises…etc. that help you keep your skin healthy- 5 replies

Alrighty hive mind, I could use some advice. I've lost 120 lbs, and while I still have a long way to go, my exercise game is improving greatly. I've been challenging myself and slowly starting to add in some plyo/jumping moves. I'm very cautious and careful about it, because I haven't jumped in years but I can do it a bit and I am slowly pushing my boundaries and comfort levels, which is awesome. Less awesome? How my extra skin and fat literally flap when I try to do anything involving jumping or even anything too quick, like if I am doing some agility work. It is uncomfortable and sounds awful. Any ideas or recommendations on how people have reined it in? Wearing tighter exercise pants isn't enough, at least not the ones I am wearing from the common US plus size shops. Does anyone have a good brand they feel helps with this? Or any other recommendations on compression gear to help with this? I don't want to feel like a stuffed potato while working out, but the flapping doesn't really great for bringing out my exercise best.

Loose skin is something that many/most will have to deal with post op in one way or another. I know there is a point that surgical removal of loose skin is the only way to deal with it. But what can you do pre and post surgery, if anything, that can help minimize the excess skin issues???

Loosing teeth after gastric bypass and the easy way out?
Erin18 posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi guys, So lately I've been seeing posts on tik tok and comments on there about people losing their teeth sometime after gastric bypass. That scares me a bit, but not stopping me from getting the tool. They all say they take their vitamins everyday. What could be causing them to lose their teeth? Is there something I can do to help prevent that? The other question is that I know this isn't the easy way out, it's just that everyone else who isn't in our situation always says it is the easy way out and they will argue and argue with you about it saying that it is. It's so annoying, they don't understand that its just like losing weight normally except you just have a tool to help keep you on track and if you mess up, you pay for it. That's like basically the only difference. Why do you think people are so against it? Besides the fact that it's super scary. If people wanted the surgery, it's because they need the help. Plus going in for weigh ins, nutritionist and all that, helps keep you motivated. People are weird. -
I am pre op but have lost over 60 lbs already. I was expecting to loose some face fat by now but pictures really haven’t shown a difference… however over the last year i have lost about 8” around my midsection and 2” on my chest and about 1/2” each of my thighs… where did you “loose first”? when did you start loosing the face fat/reduced chin and neck??

This might be a silly question, but how can I tell if my saggy tummy is loose skin or fat? I'm 20 lbs away from my Ideal Body Weight (lost 73% of EBW), and I'm trying to figure out how much of that is loose skin vs. fat. When I pinch my saggy tummy, I don't feel a lot of subcutaneous fat. I'm a 50 year old man.
