  1. Starting my pre-op keto diet early.  Trying to do 50 carbs a day!

  2. 7/8 - Extremely healthy keto day.

7/9 - Halo Top 1/2 Cup Chocolate Mocha Chip (I am in heaven!!). Healthy keto day. Weighed in at 208.4 lbs. Gained 1.4 lbs

7/10 - Hung out at Coney Island with my Mom, little Brother and my dog Buddy aka Rasta Scoobs. At Nathans Philly Chicken with no bun. The guy gave me the nasty look when I ordered it. (It was like really, you are going to come here and want to eat healthy at Nathans?). With a nasty tone, he says, "It's going to be the same price and the same amount of meat." So in an even nastier tone, I said, "Did I ask about the amount of meat or the price? No. I asked for a Philly Chicken with No Bun. Thank you." He just placed my order and my brother says, "Don't be surprise if you find some special sauce or a hair floating around in it lol."

7/11 - Keto Day. Decided to step on the scale and weighed 205.4 lbs. I was like WTF!!! What is going on? At this point my weight is fluctuating up and down. I think I maybe starting stall soon and my body is warning me. It could also be water weight.

7/12 - Another Keto Day. Went out to eat with my mom and brother and I was upset because I could have the Tacos of Bell. My mom keeps saying, "Oh you have your meal prep and you have been doing so good on your diet. Taco Bell is not good for you." I was like then why are you eating it. She says, "I'm grown and your mama. Do as I say and not as I do."  She is right but sooo annoying sometimes.

7/13 - My day was healthy. Received two new Hidrate Spark bottles. Gave one to my mom and brother. They are in love and I set them up on their phones.

Breakfast: 2 egg whites boiled with salt.

    Snack: 2 pickle slices

Lunch 1 - 2 : 2.1 oz of turkey with a tomatoes, a little cheese, romaine lettuce and my special dressing. (Broken up into 2 meals)

    Snack: 21 olives.

Dinner 1 - 2: 4 oz of ground beef, a little cheese, romaine lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream and salsa. (Broken up into 2 meals)

lol... Do as I say!! My mom used to say that all the time.

Sounds like you are running on auto pilot.

Sorry about the stall. Good for you for standing for yourself and you were polite. I love that part. Your brother cracked me up.

@Newme17That is her favorite saying. Other than, "I am not your friend. We will become friends when you pay a bill in this household." Oh that one makes me laugh because I will look at her like...really....I pay bills....yeah....we friends now...lol. I bring my bottle everywhere but I have been slacking in getting about 40 oz lately.

@Meryline I have an insulated bottle that I use for the gym. I will take those ounces and it to the Hidrate manually. However, I used the Hidrate for when I am at work. During that time I will not drink much of anything because I am busy working.

@Apple1 I really am running on autopilot at this point. I think every mom has said that line lol.

@Sweet as Peaches It is okay. The stalls will happen. I am not stressing it. I have come so far and I will continue to move forward. There is always bumps in the road and we have to jump over them. I just wanted him to understand that just because I am heavy does not mean that I do not want to watch what I am eating. Like do not judge a book by its cover. My little brother is just like my mother.

    Keto

I am not at the solid food stage yet, but I'm thinking about a Keto style of eating, trying to make sure that I can get in my 60 grams of protein daily. Have any of you done or are doing this? I'd love your feedback!
  4. NerdySongBird

    Tah-Ketos lol

I gave these a try tonight and they were actually pretty good. Its sliced mozzarella baked til its golden, then you roll whatever you want in it. I used shredded chicken, and some seasoned black beans and corn. I was only able to finish like 2 if them lol, but that's because it's been really hot and I haven't eaten much. Keto diet?

Hey everyone so I'm new to the vsg world. And I have been having trouble loosing weight. I have PCOS. So this makes it extra hard. I was looking in the keto diet. Has anyone tried it. And how successful are you or have you been. kira marrie ♡
  6. OK guys!!!! I started Keto 2 weeks ago and would love to have a forum of just Fellow Ketoers!! We can trade recipes, stories, question, concerns etc. Keto stuff is all over the internet...but nothing about doing it after WLS. I use My Fitness Pal to track all food/drink, calories, carbs, fats. I currently stay until 12g carbs per day, 60g protein and 27g fat. I use Ketostix every morning to make sure I stay in Ketosis ( usually a 4) but I don't feel I'm losing quick enough. What is your experience so far with Keto and your daily intake of foods? It's just so hard for me to get in enough calories and protein.
  7. Hello. I’ve had some success on keto and Atkins type diets in the past and I am curious how they work post op and more than a little nervous to start it up again now since they are basically higher fat and my past probs there...plus I’m only two months + post op. Lil backstory- I had my gallbladder taken out 11/2016 and a year later my body still hasn’t made up its mind on how to process fats (mainly dairy, meat based fats are tolerable) Some days I can totally tolerate minimal dairy (like in my morning coffee or some meat wrapped cheese/pickle meals). Other days I take one sip of my AM coffee and I bolt straight to the bathroom & for the rest of the day- this is low fat, whole milk, half and half or even full on heavy cream. I literally can drink/eat FULL fat one day and get the intestinal freak outs the next! I don’t get it! I had VSG on 10/31/2017 (2.5 mos) and still struggle having dairy back into my diet since I’m pretty much experiencing the same thing. Now I make my one morning coffee with chocolate Premier Protein shake and do OK but still struggle with any other dairy...cheese, low fat sour cream, yogurt...but I WANT TO COOK WITH THIS STUFF! PLUS I NEED THE CALCIUM. Ricotta bake- HELLO! I want to be able to eat that without excusing myself from the table after one bite. Can I do a modified Keto and/or Atkins type eating program that allows me to eat lower fat (mostly dairy) type foods and still be satisfied and lose weight? Maybe less fat and more protein? Is there something like that- toss in some whole greens maybe? I’m earnestly trying and reaching out for help so please don’t give me arrogant attitude. I enjoy most of you but geez the power trips here are sometimes too much...kinda like the trots I get lately many thanks and so much love and appreciation to all of you that offer kind supportive suggestions...Tess
  8. Hi everyone! I'm going thru the process to get GBS so I'm wondering I've been following a lady who has had gastric bypass and after she was released to eat regular foods she is eating a keto diet which is high in fat high in protein low in cards... which I think is another term for Atkins diet?? But won't all the high fats upset your pouch and put you through dumping? Any thoughts?
  9. After being on this pre-op a week and a half, as well as weight dropping daily, I was curious and pulled out my keto sticks (from previous diets) and wow, i was off the charts. It was darker than the darkest sample. I guess that's a good thing. So once we start eating a healthy normal, do we remain in ketosis until we introduce the dreaded carbs back in?
  10. Hey there! I was wondering if I could get some feedback from individuals who have combined bariatric surgery with the ketogenic diet, and what your progress has been with it. Specifically wondering if you've seen it maximize your weight loss.
  11. Hey guys I had my surgery in 2013 5 years out I've gained back about 20 lbs from my lowest weight (210 to 230). I know I have to eat better and thinking about starting this diet for the new year. Have you tried it? Did you like it? Did you not? Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  12. Has anyone tried keto pills before your surgery to help lose some weight? And did they help? Sent from my G60 using BariatricPal mobile app
  13. I've noticed on YouTube and IG that so many RNYers are eating keto. I've been a vegetarian and part-time vegan for 18 years (actually started that after trying Atkins diet!) There's got to be people out there meeting both their nutrition and weight loss goals by eating vegetarian or vegan. Help, I need your feedback!
  14. I am almost 3 months out from my sleeve and have lost 50 lbs which I am good with but still struggle with getting all of my protein in so I have started following the ketogenic diet. Anyone else tried this? Thoughts? Results?

    Keto/VSG help please!

Hey guys!! I haven't logged in here in forever! I had surgery 4 years ago (surgiversary was on the 8th) . My highest was 280.4 , I dipped down to 193 and then got pregnant. I didn't gain much through out my pregnancy, i breastfed after, and lost all the weight and then some. i got to 184.4 i think . Then i don't know what happened. I got back up to 220.2. On may 23rd i started trying to lose weight, I went to a weight loss doc and got put on phentermine . It curbs my hunger for sure but i went from doing the 5 bite diet, to counting calories, to low carb, to keto. 5 bite was good i was losing but it was hard and i kept cheating. counting calories was good but i wasn't losing a whole lot and felt like i needed more structure. Low carb was good but i felt like i needed more than that. so i tried keto. which im on now. I like it but i have someone helping me that hasn't had WLS and doesnt understand it. It's still hard to get in a lot. Like Protein still makes me super full , super fast. so i feel like im forcing myself to eat. I started on aug 2 at 202.4 i think it was. so 11 days later im hovering between 200.6 and 199.6 . i feel like EVERYONE is losing faster than I am, and i had WLS. So....has anyone that had the sleeve ever done keto? I'd like to continue doing it but is it ok to cut back my macros? what should they be at? can anyone help me????? Thanks in advance!!
  16. I am just in the initial stages for pre op my surgeon appointment is on Tuesday but as I go grocery shopping I want to fill my fridge with the pre op diet foods, and have read most doctors diet pre surgery is keto. I have been doing the whole30 and have lost 30 pounds in the past 3 months and can transition to keto if that's what I'm going to be put on, in my research I'm seeing that keto is listed as the worst diet of 2017 and whole 30 was right with it. My bariatric may require 3 months dietician, exercise and weight loss. My insurance doesn't, Just failed attempts and need. I'm curious about keto diet recommendations, how much weight are you suppose to lose before surgery? How many carbs do you eat to be in ketosis, how do deal with the side effects? Thank you
  17. I've been following a ketogenic diet for the last 3 months and have been pretty successful. My surgeon originally wanted me to lose about 30 pounds and I have lost 25 and he has been happy with me so far. My nutritionist did not suggest keto, I kind of just took it in my own hands to follow keto instead of the high protein low fat diet they recommended. My main question here is, if you followed keto up until you got close to your surgery date what did you do when you got close to surgery? Did you go back to high protein low fat, or follow keto right up until the pre op liquid diet? I'm not sure what I wanted to do. My surgery isn't officially scheduled yet but I'm probably looking at early October. High protein low fat and actually eating carbs is going to be so weird for me and I'm afraid I'll gain or stop losing if I start eating carbs. I know it isn't likely but when you do keto for so long you understand. So please anybody with any advice or peace of mind to give feel free!! Tell me what you did when your surgery date got closer and if you began following keto at maintenance after surgery or if you did not go back to keto. Thanks!
  18. I am 4 yrs post VSG. I have regained a good amount of weight- I got back into drinking soda and I really believe it is a major culprit. Unfortunately i'm really struggling in that area, and I work a night shift job which goes against every grain of my being ( I DON'T sleep days, I have a terrible time staying awake at work, but only have about 15 months left because i'll be moving into a different career path after my post-graduate education is done). Anyway, my hubs and I both have about 40 lbs to lose. I tried doing a 'bariatric' type diet, with lean proteins and veg. didn't work too well, I was starved and only lasted 3 days. I tried going back to shakes- I have developed lactose intolerance and vomited from the smell/taste of whey even when I used almond milks. I tried doing a 'low carb' type approach which worked decently (only lasted about a week before I had to go back to work and that blasted soda grabbed hold again). I tried just stopping the soda but it didn't make a huge dent in my weight loss either (I drink mostly diet). My hubs would like to try Keto. I am very nervous about it. I definitely buy into the major science behind it, but i'm scared with all the fats that i'll be in misery. I am very leery of dumping syndrome and think that the high levels of fat might have me bent over in pain. I don't have a gall bladder so dumping is a definite concern. while most people dump from sugar, my body is actually pretty tolerant to sugar, and I get dumping from fat and dairy (milk and ice cream only). Has anybody had any success with keto, specifically for regain? thanks
  19. 6/8 - KETO KETO KETO. I am trying everything I can with KETO. Nothing out of the ordinary.

6/9 - Breakfast: Had two egg whites, and 1 slice turkey bacon. Lunch: Turkey lettuce wrap (delicious). Dinner: Protein shake. Got my Hidrate bottle and immediately fell in love. I went as far as purchasing another one in Teal. I plan on having all the colors. Yayyy. Having difficulty with this 64 oz water intake I see. All this time, I thought I was drinking way more water than I was. SMH.

6/10 - Meal prepped for the week. Mozzarella stuffed chicken with Mushrooms. It is soo delicious. Low carb and high in protein. The remaining prep for breakfast was turkey bacon (BLT) with lettuce as the bread.

6/11 - Nothing out of the ordinary happened.

6/12 - Could not get out of bed. I felt burnt out and just exhausted. I went to work but could not function enough to hit the gym. I slept so long.

6/13 - Still felt exhausted. No gym and had a massive headache. It could possibly be this NYC heat. My fan is not cutting it anymore.

6/14I actually had enough energy to workout (with the help of C4). I have been slacking in my vitamins for the evening so I am wondering if this could be the reason why I was out of it. It does not help that I am overworked as well. However, that C4 gave me a kick that I needed. I still have a buzz going. I hope I do not crash. I only took 1/2 scoop which is below the recommended. My mom went and brought some organic Turkey Burgers lol. She was sooo excited and happy. She goes, "Look Mocha. It is for you. I know you cannot have the other food at the cookout but I got you some Turkey burgers and I will make some chicken and shish kabobs for just for you :D." She had the biggest smile. It was too cute.

Well this is it for now. I am sorry that I do not post regularly like I used to. I am taking on a new business project and it is taking a lot of my time.

Well here is mines for today. Only 9 oz for far. I am so focused on water because I used to feel so dehydrated that now I am not focusing on eating enough. Ever since getting the hidrate, my calorie intake has dropped to 350-450 when I normally would take in 650-750 a day.

But I would think maybe fluids would be more important at this stage then what we eat.

Yeah I agree. It's just I am starting to feel exhausted from not eating like I should.

  20. I saw on a YouTube video someone saying they included Bang Keto coffee in their post-surgery diet. I’m unfamiliar with this product. Does anyone else include it in their daily eating plan?
  21. I am currently scheduled for surgery June18th! yay! I am thinking once I get on regular food to go on a KETO diet. Anyone have experience, Advice if this diet would be a good option? Having some anxiety about after surgery diet

    Life after keto

Has anyone ever started out doing keto and then switching back to a more traditional bariatric plan? Did your body adjust easily or did you gain weight? Just to clarify- i don't mean going from keto to eating pizza and french fries all day. But i do mean transitioning from the keto diet to a lower fat, higher protein, low good carb (such as fruits, veggies including starchy veggies and beans) lifestyle.
  23. Hello all, I am only a few months into my preop 6 month required diet. I don't have much of a diet to follow. I have cut out sodas and sweets. I have been eating more veggies and less carbs. My question is, I've only lost 2lbs. I wanted to lose some on my own before wls to just help myself get further ahead I guess. I've seen some people doing a Keto type diet after they have wls. Has anyone done it before surgery and seen any benefits? Also, I have a work trip in March, a few months before my surgery, and I have to fly! I've never flown and would like to lose a few before I have to squeeze into a seat on a plane.
