  1. I just can't stop eating too fast! Everyone suggests waiting 1 minute between bites, but I just can't seem to do that. So many years of only having 20 minutes on my lunch taught me to eat fast and I can't break that habit. I'm just always miserable after I eat because I'm so full! Any other tips?

  7. My surgery is on Monday (less than 48 hours!). My instructions are to fast starting at midnight before surgery. I was told to drink 10 oz Gatorade 3 hours before surgery. Does fasting include water or can I drink water in the morning? I can’t believe I didn’t ask my doc this question! Thank you!
  8. Well, found out tonight what happens when you eat too fast…don’t do it. Five weeks post op gastric bypass and was wishing I could throw up. The pain was awful and I was eating protein!! I can’t imagine how you would feel eating off plan.
  9. I know the title may sound odd....but hear me out. I'm 5 weeks post op, so just over a month. I don't feel "restriction" as much or as painful as i did initially. I still feel it but i feel like it's not as significant of a feeling as before. Also i feel like I can eat more than i should already without pain. I had a piece of cake the other day at a birthday and felt fine, no dumping syndrome or any issues. That was really surprising to me. Also, I don't have changed taste buds like everyone else seems to (so far). Everything still tastes the same to me! The only thing is i prefer very cold water now and before i was fine with room temperature water. Another thing about water is I feel like I can take like 2 or 3 gulps without any issue. I know you aren't supposed to and before it would hurt a bit but not anymore. I'm still losing weight though. On my date of surgery i was 195 and today I'm 174. I'm just worried that maybe I'm advancing too fast? Anyone else been through this?
  10. Hi my name is Catina I'm 3 weeks and a few days post OP. I lost almost 30 pounds in 11 days is this normal? Also I went my regular physician the other day which was 6 days after sleeve appt and I had lost another 14 pounds in 6 days HELP IS THIS NORMAL?

    Eating too fast!

I am about 12 weeks out from the sleeve. I have more variety and fewer restrictions. However, I have noticed I stopped eating slowly. I still use a baby spoon to keep my bites small but stopped timing my bites 1 minute apart like suggested by my team. I think I stopped because I was tired of my food being cold after a few nibbles. Also, I would stop eating not because I was full but because it took so long... I'm a busy mom of 4 kiddos. So I really picked up the pace. I've noticed it's easier to overeat due to delayed hunger signals but I still have never vomited or been in pain. My full signal seems to be pressure in my stomach/chest area.. almost the same signal I had if I overdid it at a buffet before surgery. However this feeling only lasts about 20 mins now versus hours before surgery. My question is why do we eat slow? Is it just to avoid delayed hunger signals? What are the cons of not slowing down? I'm still pre-weighing my food so I know I'm not eating more than I would if I ate slow. Could I have stretched my sleeve already? I do consistently have the stuffed feeling after eating the last few weeks. Sent from my SM-S115DL using BariatricPal mobile app
  12. I know everyone is different of course but I’ve just been daydreaming about normal eating (months away for me lol) What if you don’t chew properly, is it a problem every time? Or did you find your stomach got better at dealing with variations? What was your experience?
  13. My Bariatric dietician told me that whilst standard advice remains 30 mins of no liquid before and after meals, 15 would suffice and does for all her patients, eventually becoming 10 mins. What do you all do? Secondly, I know dumping is meant to hit within 30 mins (early dumping) but does it normally come on real quick for those who get it? Thanks all, loving reading the forum from start to finish!
  14. Hi all, I had the gastric sleeve done in 2015 and have lost around 100lbs (depending on the season) lol. Ever since I was able to start eating solid food I would get full really fast with little food (to the point of feeling sick and sneezing), after 10-15 min. It would feel like my food would drop and I would be able to eat the rest of my meal. Has anyone else felt this?
  15. Is anyone using intermittent fasting as a maintenance strategy? If so, what model are you using? Thoughts/insights?

Good luck dear!! Looks like you’ve come a long way!

my surgery is scheduled in just three more days and I’m so excited! You keep on keeping on sis and don’t forget when doing your two week pre op liquid diet, to just handle it one day at a time - it will pass - and it is so so important to really stick with it!

    How fast?

So, the $64,000 question that I'm sure all newbies want to know: how fast (on average) do most people lose weight after surgery. I know, I know, everyone's different, but surely there is a range. I lost very quickly before and immediately after surgery, but now that I'm about 6 or 7 weeks out, it has slowed dramatically (less than 1/2 pound per day). Is that common? Does it speed up and slow down and then back up and down (much like my investments 🤣)? I'm trying to lose another 50-60 pounds. Should I be thinking 6 months or 2 years? Thanks PS: I bet no one has ever asked this before. Sorry, couldn't find a thread on this.
  18. Ok all which would you recommend protien powder vs Slim Fast? I like the Slim Fast because it seems to fill me up more then the powder but I like the powder cause there is less calories and more protien. Which is better for after surgery? Sent from my SM-S908U1 using BariatricPal mobile app
  19. Dont worry its nothing bad LOL. almost 6 weeks post op Chick Fil A 8 piece grilled nuggets 130 calories, 3g of fat, 1g of carbs and 25g of protein Chick Fil A Diet lemonade 50 calories, 0 fat, 14g carbs (A bit high but i only drank half) Gotta say it was delicious. Not as good as fried but still nice. I could not eat all pieces in one sitting so save the leftovers for later or tomorrow. So far i have had 0 issues with any foods i have eaten which is nice. been almost 2 weeks since my last weigh in. Waiting for June 4th which is my monthly date i take measurements of my body and weight to see monthly differences.
  20. I was pretty active going to the gym 3x a week and chasing small kids but i had hysterectomy and some other pelvic organ surgical repair march 3rd and was on full exercise restriction from that, then MY VSG was may 3rd so now I’m recovering from that and overall i feel really good but i am finding myself short of breath when i do anything, i feel like my heart is beating fast. I dont know if it really is or not but it feels like it is. is this just from being down and out for so long and my body being weak? or from very restricted calories? i just want to make sure it isn’t something i should get medical attention for im getting my protein and fluids in and overall feeling fine, no abdominal pain, not much gas pain anymore its just when im trying to cook or outside with the kids, getting the kids dressed, cleaning i get so winded
  21. TLDR: I am getting closer to surgery and can't seem to stop my RECENT daily habit of binging drive-thru fast food, which I do when I get anxiety about something. I hope someone can help. Full disclosure: I am about 2 months pre-op. The only thing I have remaining before my bari office submits my file to insurance is my last nutritionist meeting. I knew the psych eval was going to be a big deal, so I decided super honest with the psychologist. He cleared me for surgery, providing I get established with a mental health counselor and resolve my binging before surgery. I have been diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder, major depressive disorder, and PTSD (I also have severe obstructive sleep apnea and PCOS). I have now been seeing a counselor for a few weeks. Also, the counseling center's doctor prescribed me Prozac, which hasn't kicked in yet as I've been taking it for less than 2 weeks. My counselor has told me that her office (or the insurance?? idk) doesn't allow her to provide counseling on the symptom of binge-eating, but rather the childhood trauma behind it. I understand why that's important, but I can't wait to resolve my feelings about the trauma (could potentially take years!) to stop binge-eating and get WLS. I will continue counseling beyond my surgery date, but for now I also want to do what I have to to get the surgery! I talked to my bari office's APRN and nutritionist, and they said they have a list of eating disorder-specialist psychologists I could see, but I have Medicaid, and it's very hard to find any doctor outside of basic community health clinics who accepts Medicaid. They also said maybe the Prozac and regular counseling will help and that I won't need the specialists. I have a book that I think could help me, called the DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) Solution for Emotional Eating (recommended by other WLS patients who have my same surgeon). But for some reason I can't get myself to actually read it. I have some kind of mental block about it. I am willing to hold off on my surgery until I resolve this, but I really would like it to resolve in the next month or so, considering that just a couple of months ago I was not having this fast food issue. Not to this degree, anyway. Plus, eating fast food every day is expensive, and I have gained 6 lbs, which I must lose before submitting to insurance. I have little coping strategies for when I get anxious and want to go get fast food, but I keep ignoring them. 😕 Would appreciate any help at all! I'm getting desperate.

  23. I had my op October 2021, Doing great, the weight loss is coming off. 5 and a half stone so far, I feel so much better and able to move more, I am happier thats for sure! However I do have a question......Just recently when I eat, straight after I get all hot, sweaty and shaky and have palpitations almost like a diabetic Hypo(low blood sugar) . However I checked my blood sugar, and it is normal. Am I eating too fast? I have no other symptoms. This is just weird!!! Love & Light
  24. Had my mini gastric bypass on Nov 19th. As of today I am down 29 lbs. Is that average? Almost seems excessive. A pound a day…
  25. Does anyone else struggle with this? If I don’t struggle with anything else I definitely struggle with this. I don’t know why even after 5 weeks I have trouble reprogramming my mind to eat slower. I never paid attention to how fast I consume food until after surgery. I mean obviously I never had a reason to before now lol. All suggestions are welcome 🤗
