  1. Hi Jane! Good to hear from you, sorry for not responding sooner, I haven't logged in in awhile but I read the board many times per day. Congrats on your weight loss tooooo!! I actually just logged in because I dropped another 1.1 pounds - the loss has really slowed but I've become quite bony, size 6 and normal BMI. My body may just be stopping at this point, who knows. I do know I've never weighed 150 - 160 yes - but never 150 so we'll see! I'm so thrilled nevertheless. Most of my physical activity comes from intense, 30 mile+ bike rides every other day, not so much during my work day. I ride with my husband and we really push each other, it's a real blessing, the whole situation.

No, the oil did NOT affect us, thank God!!!

    Take good care!!

  2. Not sure why they can't seem to get the paperwork done sooner. I used a local psychologist and apparently they are slowwwww! I have been off work and hoping to get this done before I returned to work. Not the case, as I started a new job today. (I am brain dead tonight!) LOL Your weight loss shows you are doing great! Has it been really difficult? Any words of wisdom for me????

  3. Oh boy I start drinking my laxative in 30 min! Have my bag packed I am sure I will have forgotten something. Bought the special shampoo and conditioner they recommended to help with the hair loss, got a fridge full of isopure, jello, popcicles, yogurt, cottage cheese. I'm all set....i think(G)

  4. Great job on the weight loss. Girl... keep it up.

Yes, I am getting excited as each day grows closer.

I saw my surgeon again yesterday and everything is a GO.

Keep me posted as well baby girl. Ciao.

  7. I have my 6 month checkup on 6/23 at 10ish and was wondering if any of you might be able to meet for lunch in Dallas.

Would love to see you and catch up. I am doing fine, seem to have not lost any in about a month or so, but hanging steady at 146. I am losing hair like crazy . I have lost like 50% of my hair. Do you guys have any advice? I figure I'll ask Dr. Nick on my visit.

Hope to hear from you soon!

  8. wow.. your amazing.. Listen for the past week . my weight loss has stop it goes up a lb, then down a lb. its crazy because AI always watche what I eat and walk and doo aerobics and swim atleast once a week, I sometime burn more calories than I eat. I only eat 800- 1200 cal per day. I think I get all my protein. what can I do to get me moving again. its only been 8 weeks now..but I am so tired of still being FAT!!!! i know its a mental thing but I want this stuff gone.

  9. Hey Missy Carolyn,

Thanks for the nice comments. I look baggie, too, and not happy about that, but comes with the territory of major fast weight loss. I've also had a piriformis muscle issue on the left glute that's bugging the sh*t out of me, painful. Doc says due to the weight loss. I'll go back to Mexico to get rid of all the hanging skin - Dr. Bell0 - already got the quote. Just waiting for my DH's job situation to settle before I set a date. I don't get in nearly the protein I should be; my calorie count is still very low, though, and I have 8 pounds to goal. I drink my protein drinks maybe 2X a week.

  10. Sorry to hear your having a bit of a rough time!!! Keep sipping and walking! You are going to do great! I feel 10x better since getting my drain out! I'm still trying to get enough fluids in. My Dr. let's you advance to full liquids(creme soups, cream of wheat, etc) the 2nd week, but I'm going to take that slow because this is still "big loss" time and I don't want to rush into food yet! Once I can get all my fluids (64+ oz h20) then I'll advance. I'm pretty close to that. I also want to find a site online to keep track of everything. Have you picked a site?

  11. For the first time in my life I really could see some light in the Tunnel of this weight loss battle.......

  12. It's probably water retention. When I was obese, the only way I could not retain water is to consume around 90-100 ounces of water per day. 64oz was just enough, but for me to get the kidneys kicking and filtering better, I had to increase the water intake. It was tough, but I managed it.

I would definitely check with you PCP and have some labs pulled to ensure there is not an underlying cause for the weight gain.

I am not sure if this could affect your weight loss.

Best wishes on getting your date.

  13. Hey Tiff

I always check what you have to say and research, I have not got my date set yet probably around Sept. Oct. I have started trying to drink my 64 oz of water and when I do I gain 4-11 pounds in that day

I even have tried to take lacix (sp) water pills and I still gain. I wopndering is this going to effect my weight loss after surgery. just some imput please. I am also going to make an appointment with my PCP.

    Thanks

    Marsha

  14. Hey.. haven't seen you post in a while. Last I heard your stall had just broken. Hows the weight loss coming? Are you still loosing? I've been in a stall for 10 days and am about to pull my hair out!!!!

  15. Hi!

I'm doing great. Horribly busy, rarely on VSG anymore - just don't have the time lately. Just a few pounds from goal, working out hard at the gym, but not making great food choices so probably why I'm not AT goal. Most importantly, I'm living life the way I want, and still slowly losing weight. Now more interestingly, how are you managing post-op? How much weight loss so far? Are you handling "real" food okay? Are you lovin' your sleeve?

    Linda

  16. You will definitely have to change your lifestyle. If you don't know get a good hold on your eating habits, and why you can't make good choices on your own, counseling may very well help you. The sleeve does make it easier especially in the beginning to make better choices. You really don't have room for anything other than protein foods if you want to follow the rules. If you choose to eat carbs, and junk then you aren't going to lose, and without protein, you could heal slower, lose more hair, and more muscle mass, so it's more than just eating right, it's about feeding your body properly when we have such a tiny stomach.

  17. Hi Carla,

Things went well with my PCP. He says that he will refer me to a surgeon and he thinks that i am a good candidate. I am going to have a sleep study done within the next few weeks. That same week I called the BRS center and was awaiting a call back. Today I got a callback and found I that I do not have the mordbid obeasity services in my benefits. :( A total bummer! I am in a loss for words. I want to go thru with the referral but I am unsure how far I am going to get... I really don't have the money to pay out of pocket but I can't forget about having my surgery either. IDK?

  18. Thanks for the encouraging response to my blog. It helps a lot to know that it does get better. I think my biggest fear is that my metabolism will get slooowwwer and slllooooowwwwwer with eating such a small amount food and that I will quit losing. Your weight loss has been great, and is definitely an inspiration!

  19. You are rocking this! It is so fun for me to watch your progress and that you are only a month ahead of me, can't wait to be able to show BIG losses. Good for you !!!

  21. How have you been? I've been good here! I think i'm on a stall with weight loss, grrr a little disapointing especially when you know your not eating, and i'm working out five day's a week! Ha whatever!!! I'm a total down 32 pounds...

I feel real good!!! Well hope you are doing awesome!

  22. Thanks for the message, & it sounds like you're doing great with the weight loss too! Good job! It is great coming across fellow Albertans on here... there aren't enough of us! lol Hope you're doing well!

  23. I think it's great you have time to get prepared! I don't know if you cook, but one of my favorite sources for soft/mushy foods was the cookbook Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery. It broke the recipes down by stages and had some great ideas...it's under $12 on amazon. My favorite early puree was teriyaki chicken from Trader Joe's. The kind that was pre-cooked. I'd puree it with a little bit of shredded cheese and add some of the sauce. When I was so early out I didn't need to worry about the extra carbs from the sauce because I could eat so little. Good luck!

  24. Hey, friend! Just checking in on you to see how you are doing. I have my six week checkup on Thursday. Hard to believe it's been that long. Frustrated because it's PMS week big time, which means the scale won't be my friend on Thursday, but it's the life of a woman, I suppose! I am officially down 24 pounds since surgery and 40 since preop. Not a speedy loss, but I guess I'll take it. I'm certainly doing all the things I'm supposed to do, so I'm "trusting the process." It will come. So, how about you?
