    Protien shake replacements

Congratulations on your weight loss! As far as a shake alternative, have you tried an unflavored protein powder? I have used Unjury and Isopure, and they are really a great alternative to shakes, because you can mix them into drinks and/or foods such as yogurt, cottage cheese, etc. The powder mixes well into Crystal Light, Powerade Zero, or, my favorite, decaf iced tea. I like the fact that it will help me get my protein up to 90-100 grams a day, which has been the magic number for me dropping the weight over the last few weeks. You might want to give it a try.

    Yogurt and pudding..what stage?

It depends on your plan, but I'm on full liquids and eating (somewhat diluted) cream soups and pudding. I haven't tried yogurt just because I don't have any in the fridge!

I've started buying Stonyfields YoKids Squeezers and Chobani Champions. Both are marketed for kids but are very tasty greek yogurt options. The YoKids: 2oz tube, 60 cals, 1g fat, Sugar 9g, protein 2g. Champions: 2.25oz tube, 70 cals, 1g fat, sugar 8g, protien 5g! I eat them either out of the fridge or freeze them for a yogurt pop! these are delicious Hope this helps! BTW...Youre doing and looking awesome! My surgery is July 3rd! Ill be joining the losers bench soon

    Yougurt

Greek yogurt is one of my go-to foods. I love it! I add sunflower seeds, sesame seeds or chia seeds. Gives it crunch, added protein, and nutrition.

    Preop Diet Help

I started pre-op diet today. Will have surgery in 2 weeks. I went to Trader Joe's and got Vanilla & Chocolate Soy Whey Protein Powder. Also got pure pressed Apple Juice. Pure carrot & apple Juice Mix. Also, got some non-fat yogurt and frozen fruit like mangos carrots and cherries and pineapples. What I plan to do is blend up the protein powder, frozen fruit and some juice for 2 meals out of the day. Will be eating veggie broth and tomato soup as well.
  7. I am 6 mths out on 10/04 and have lost 111 with 30 to go. I also have followed my Dr rules. I do eat 6 small meals a day and it works for me. I also do not drink protein shakes because I was told they were like slider foods and I would rather eat something anyway. I go to curves 5 days a week and walk 6 to 7 times a week. I think I am going to have to go to a regular gym before long, I feel like this last 30 pounds is going to take even harder work! As for what I eat let's start with what I do not eat. Rice, pasta, bread, soda and sugary deserts. I love yogurt mixed with fruit and kashi in the morning.( I do also drink a home made latte when I first get up) during the day I eat chili (homemade low cal) salad with meat and eggs and veggie, whatever meat I cook for dinner and veggies, snacks are laughing cow cheese on a wasu cracker, 100 cal snack, fruit, protein bar (I only eat half) I do watch my protein and drink lots of water.

    "Diets" after the band

I don't diet. I do portion control. So as you say I eat what I want within reason. I try to eat from as wide a range of foods as possible and I also try to eat fresh rather than processed.Sometimes I eat icecream but no not 3 times a day. LOL I also mix my foods up when I eat so would find it hard to eat Protein first then veg then carbs. I prefer to have a bite of this a bite of that etc. For me this has been one of the best things about the band. I now eat like a skinny person. That is I eat what I want and am satisfied with much smaller amounts. I also don't feel hungry the whole time in between meals.Sometimes my food choices might be strange but if that is what my body wants then that is what I am going to give it.e.g I just ate abowl of natural muesli with greek yogurt for lunch! Normally I would have tuna and salad or a sandwich or something but today I felt like Cereal. Everyone is different and each person does need to work out what works for them as there is no "one size fits all rule". Good luck
  9. Have you considered replacing the ice cream with frozen yogurt? It has only a fraction of the saturated fat. I can't tell the difference but a few people don't think it taste as good as ice cream.
  10. Was going to suggest this. My 2nd week post, full liquids, I made something similar. 1/2 cup FF Greek Yogurt scoop of vanilla protein powder and added water until I got the consistensy I wanted. Delic!!! The water counts towards intake as well as the protein from yogurt and powder.
  11. She really can't eat much at only 11 days out by Christmas. I was on cream soups, cottage cheese, yogurt, and sf pudding. That doesn't give much leeway for holiday food choices. And she will not know how her sleeve will react to any new food, especially in a social situation. You can say you picked up a UTI and the antibiotic upsets your stomach - so the doc said you should stick to yogurt to get your gut bacteria back in shape. And when I'm better I would love some of your lasagne so I'm going to take some home and freeze it if that's okay with you?

    Surgery next week and worried

Basically, you need to think Atkins diet, plus at least 60 to 70 grams of protien, whey chocolate is really good., I used 2% milk., or you could use 1%, cut out all carbs., ie: low fat yogurt, protien drinks, protien bars, lean meats, fish, grilled chicken only.. keep your fat and carbs to a minimum.... again think Atkins... I did this for 7 days before surgery...thanks to some advise and I am doing great, I had surgery on 3/7 and so far I am doing awesome and I have lost 7.8 lbs.. Hope this helps, good luck. and don't worry its not as bad as you think.... :huh2:
  13. Yay for you! Good job on preop weight...be prepared if you get on the scale tomorrow you may have some weight gain, just fluids drops off quickly. I was sleeved on the 19th and i am down 10 since surgery. Had pintos n cheese, frozen yogurt and lemadelines tomato soup today. Plus a protein shake....was a good day. Besides the acid reflux which i know will go away this is the best thing ever...you will see....we are on our way! ~kris

    BREAKFAST!

Oatmeal is my go to because it is easy. Also, I bring an egg, some chopped ham, & a little cheese to work with me and microwave it. Sometimes I add some veggies too. It makes a nice little "omelet". I also make my own yogurt and my own granola (so I can control the sugar). That is sometimes breakfast too.

    Define puree

When you puree in a blender you need to add a liquid or most things will be too dry. Try adding chicken broth to chicken and beef broth to beef. Water, dressings, sauces, soups or gravy to other foods depending on flavors you want. It usually makes more than you can eat so freeze the extra in ice cube trays, pop out cubes when frozen and store in freezer bags. Then thaw or microwave to eat when you want it. (I used to make my own baby food when the kids were little) For a frozen treat this summer, try mixing sf pudding or Greek yogurt with added Protein powder, pour small amounts into Dixie cups, cover with plastic wrap or foil, insert popcicle stick through wrap (it holds stick upright), then freeze. To eat dip in hot water to loosen from cup and... Voila! Enjoy! When your doctor clears you, you can add chopped fruit or whatever. Get creative! You can also just freeze sugar free drinks like crystal light to make the popcicles.

    Trouble sleeping

When I am losing weight, I have to go to the bathroom all the time. Especially at night -- I was up every hour! Could that be an issue? I also found that if I had some Protein before I went to bed I slept better. Dairy also helps you sleep (that's the reason for warm milk before bed). So I have a 4 oz cup of Greek yogurt before I go to bed. It gives me dairy, protein and is not hard to digest so my tummy is not working all night, like it would be if I ate something like carbs. I am 5 months post op (tomorrow as a matter of fact) and I now sleep like a dead person because of the copious amounts of exercise. But I still have my Greek yogurt at night. It's my nightly treat.

Flying after surgery, and puréed foods

You can bring packets of Protein powder and a collapsible funnel with you. Then just buy bottled Water or milk once you are through security and mix the Protein Powder into the bottle. A lot of airports also have thing like yogurt or cheese sticks for sale at various stands. Are you allowed cheese sticks in your pureed stage? I was. If you don't know, maybe you can ask your nutritionist ahead of time. For eating out, you are going to be pretty limited to just Soups. Be careful to not eat any of the more solid chunky bits. Definitely do NOT eat the celery if there's celery in there. It's way too fibrous, even cooked.

    Pain on day 3

Hang in there. Things for me got way better around day 10. I still had shoulder and neck pain until a few days ago. Take your pain meds and it will pass with time. Drinking or eating too much or too fast may make it worse, as will certain sitting or laying positions. It does get better and quickly. Yogurt already is good I wasn't even close to water or protein goals until day 8, a few days out and even tiny pills stuck in my throat.
  20. I think the person to be asking this question to is your doctor. He would be the best persons instructions to follow. I know my post op diet is 4 days Clear Liquids, 10 days full liquids, 14 days pureed foods. My doctor says this is so that you can heal up completely and that while maybe you feel like your fine to eat something that doesn't fall into those categories or during the proper stage time frame - doesnt mean that you should. That they have this post op diet in place for a reason and that while it may not seem to have any affect to you now - maybe 6 months down the road if it turns out that you have slipped or something of the sort it could very well be tied to any post-op indescretions. That in itself scared me enough to not risk trying ANYTHING out of turn. Good luck with your healing - today's day 1 of my pureed food stage and I am VERY excited to be having pureed tuna for lunch instead of yogurt and pudding!

    Pre-Op Liquid Diet

...it may seem like a lot...but wait until you get there! LOL...but we are here for support. that's part of your problem... you are NOT eating 3x's a day!!! As you will learn, it is imperative that you have 3 full meals a day, and drink your water; especially after surgery...it is VITAL...so start practicing now... I have it easier, I have a desk job, so I bring my ice Water from home (clean water system there) in a thermal jug to get me thru the day... you can do this...just BELIEVE! Protein and low carbs are the keys here, so read your labels, you will learn to do that with everything going forward anyway. The yogurt we were told to get is carbmaster available at Kroger (if you have them near you)... low carbs, higher protein.
  22. I'm on the full liquid post -OP as of yesterday I was told basically What I was eating on clear liquid Plus Yogurt, Greek or fat free...no fruit in it pudding, but to make sure it was watery Pourable consistency cream of wheat (gross) Skim or 1% milk Puréed Soups Creamy soups, make sure any chunks are strained out I tried to eat a yogurt, a 100 calorie one, and couldn't even finish half I found some soups that aren't bad...found some potato lentil soup that I added unjury Protein powder to. But I couldn't imagine trying to eat something like chf boyardee right now I am pretty much sticking with various Protein shakes right now, with a soup....I can't get the protein or calories I need from the yogurts or such

    Liquid diet pre-op

Here's what my nutritionist wrote when I asked why the liquid diet was necessary and not just a low glycemic diet: "You are to follow the pre-op meal plan that was given to you. I know it's hard because it doesn't consist of a lot of substance, but it is a requirement from Dr. --- in order to have surgery. Every person whom is overweight or obese has an enlarged liver. The liquid diet helps shrink the size of the liver, fat around the abdomen and helps Dr. -- perform the surgery in record time and prevents him from poking your fatty liver with his surgical tools. If your liver is fatty and it gets poked it will bleed and therefore the operation will take longer. Please follow the guidelines and don't have anything that isn't already listed on the pre-op diet. Dr. -- has been known to put his camera in the belly, look at the liver and if it's still too large, a funny color from eating solid foods or if he feels that you cheated, he will cancel your surgery on that very day! So please take full advantage of 2 Protein shakes a day and 3 servings of cottage cheese, milk or yogurt to help fill you up as much as possible. The previous items include protein for satiety! " Guess that puts the fear of God (and Dr.--) in ME! I want my liver the right color, whatever that is!!

only 1.2cc and i still vomit alot

Absolutely. You need to give your stomach and all the irritation from all this vomiting time to rest and heal. You can get plenty of Protein from Protein drinks, cottage cheese, yogurt, Soups, etc. You might just be very sensitive. There are some people who just can't handle very much saline in their band. I know you have a small fill, but some people have spasms in their esophagus and the fill of any kind makes it worse.
  25. After I typed this I saw top 3. Idiot me! I'm not going to erase what I wrote so I'll add: 1.
