Hello everone hope everyones having a great day. Well today is finally here. This morning I had my surgery at 8:00am and I'm so excited. I got to leave the hospital about 1:00pm. The only thing that has bothered me is the gas pains but not to bad maybe a 3 on a scale to 10. I would like to thank everyone for helping me through your blogs.

I seen allot about giving up diet soda on the boards today and I was just wondering what the reasoning behind giving it up is, diet Pepsi has no calories, no carbs, no sugar. Is it just the carbonation? Just curious I'm new to all this, my initial consult is Aug 10 and I have to do 6 months.

I'd like to know this too. I didn't take ibuprofen for a month before or a month after surgery, because of the bleeding risks. I didn't get instructions to keep off them any longer than that, but also nothing about it being okay. I've taken ibuprofen maybe 10 times in the last 6 months. I don't think it's hurt me..

1St Day Pre Op- Meltdown And Sick!
stacey131 replied to DaniEA's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
I am on day 10 of pre op diet and feel your pain! I was dizzy lighjt headed and so weak. I admit that I cheated on Easter, but not anywhere near the normal bottomless pit that I can be. It does get a bit better, but I found myself counting the minutes to go to bed just so it would be over. -
The Fat Lady is Tuning UP, Dec. 20, 2006
Lap_dancer commented on Lap_dancer's blog entry in Lap_dancer's Journal
Embarrassing, Humilating, Why I hate going out in public and eating... I think there is something very wrong with a person who never wants change. Cenophobia or Centophobia- Fear of new things or ideas. Decidophobia- Fear of making decisions. http://phobialist.com/ The Fat Lady is Tuning Up [20 Dec 2006|10:05am] [ mood | bouncy ] Last night was my mother's 75th birthday. There is a special seafood restaurant on the edge of the Cotee River that serves their dinners with shiney oak floors, high polished brass shipboard props and taxidermed fish floating through the air. We do love our appetizers. Vidalia onions, sliced medium, dredged in cracker meal and fried right. Here came this plate heaped high and hot. Out of the six people at our table, the other server placed the dish directly in front of me and not blinking he looked me square in the eye and asked if I would like a refill on my tea. "Sure", I said. I looked at the rest of my family and they didn't see what I saw. The server automatically thought the food went to the fattest person at the table! Being my usual sarcastic yet jovial self, I hunched over that plate like a dog on a meat wagon and annouced to the waiter " I'm good " while I grabbed a hot ring. My husband immediately picked up on it, my sister didn't, my mother was more wondering why HER rings were not down at her end of the table. It's that assumption. Like it never goes away or it goes so far away assumption has crossed the space-time continuum and will meet me sometime next year. Like the booths at (Belly Deli) restaurant. Who believes that the average human has the body circumfrence of a medium sized vase? So I got to the point of asking for a "Belly Booth". Hey, who wants a gastric bypass with your dinner? Reflux with your dessert? "No thanks, I'm good". -
My brain knows but my heart hurts...
jayhawk1965 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi. I was sleeved on 7/31. I lost 43 lbs in the 4 week pre-op diet, gained 7 lbs while I was in the hospital, lost that and then gained 9 lbs during the full liquid stage (that was a heartbreaker!). I finally lost that. I have lost a total of 58 lbs since July 1. Rationally, I know that I have never lost 58 lbs in 10 weeks in my long history of dieting and I should be thrilled. I am measuring, counting, exercising and following the plan religiously and have only lost 13 lbs. since surgery. When you have a lot to lose, this is a little defeating. Just need some encouragement. Thanks! -
Hi.i had a lap band 10 days ago.the first week in was losing 1 pound every day.after that.i haven't lost no even a pound.I am doing something wrong? I have been following the puree diet.i am absolute following the sample menu.i feel little disappointed. Is it normal to get stuck ?am I doing something wrong? One of my big concerns was that I read a report that said that 40% of bands had to be removed within 12 years. This was from a pro-Band information site. They did make the point that the technology is improving all the time so this stat would most likely improve as well. I almost chose against the band, but then I looked at it in a different way. I can either have the surgery now and take care of this weight and *maybe* have another surgery within the next 10 years to replace a faulty/old band or most likely have surgery within the next 10 years for an obesity related condition (loss of a limb due to diabetes, heart attack, etc.)...which will not get better as time goes on either. The band has a better prognosis than remaining obese. .

I know it is normal but...

You will not fail if you follow your plan. Any surgery is scary, with anesthesia. But this procedure for us, was 10 times easier than expected! You will be so happy! It is lifechanging with new rules. Thank God I will never pay Weight Watchers any more monty. Your tears will be wiped away when you start losing pounds! Smile at a new beginning. -
My first week I lost 10 pounds then the other 2 weeks I lost 1-2 pounds each week. Don't weight yourself so much, try once a week. And remember, you may not be losing pounds because you are gaining muscle (which weighs more than fat) and losing inches. You're doing fine as long as you keep up with the post-op diet and exercise. :rolleyes2: Well, I should have started this blog 2 years ago when I was banded, but alas, I didn't. I was banded March 31, 2006. I started @ 250#, lowest point has been 188, back up to 206. I had some issues w/ my band about 8 months ago or so. Something got stuck which started the awful PB cycle, swelling etc...anyway, it got to the point where anything I ate was coming back up. So I had some fluid removed. I really don't remember how much was taken out but I went down to 1.8 cc on a 10 cc medium band. So....here I am about 8 months later and almost 20# heavier because I DIDNT follow the band guidelines. I got lazy. I have to really stop and think.. OK I went through this major surgery to get healthy and now what am I doing! So, I went back to Dr. Snow last week and got a fill to 2.1 cc. So far so good. Feeling the restriction, no complications. Today is Super Bowl Sunday and my fill was on Wednesday. So, in 5 days I'm down 3 pounds. I am happy. I am again getting on track. I am going to start blogging regularly (hopefully) just as an accountability measure for myself and to have emotional release. Also, because if anyone chooses to read this blog I want to have a positive impact on someone else who has been banded. Being overweight is torture for the mind, body and soul. I am not a vain person. I just want to be healthy. So, the journey begins again..........Stay tuned!

8 Weeks Out - Slow Scale Movement!
Gastricsleeve4me replied to BABEwiththePOWER's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your weight loss seems really normal for your starting weight!! Right on track. I scoured the boards and vlogs before my surgery to try to set some expectations. I also started at 250. For that weight (and my height... 5'7") it seemed highly typical to go 20-25lbs the first month then 10 ls a month thereafter (until somewhere around month 6-12 where things became harder). Everyone is totally different, and this is obviously anecdotal, but again and again it was what I was seeing (certainly with outliers!) I'd love to hit 50 lbs maybe 4-5 months in. The higher the weight, the faster it comes off, so don't dismay! I'm not immune to comparing (obviously) but never do it unless it's someone with a similar starting weight and height. Good luck! -

has anyone had any open surgery???
010308 replied to baby ruth's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So was this an extra large person... or just an extra fatty liver? When I had my consult with my surgeon he told me that he wanted me to lose 35 lbs because at the weight I was the day of the consult (354 lbs) I might be pushing the limits of the tools. Now, I know I'm super obese... but I found it hard to believe that I would need to worry about being opened up, and I have lost about 10 lbs with 2 weeks left before surgery. Does fasting or liquid diet within the few days before the surgery really help reduce the size of the liver? -
I have had muffins and I get dumping syndrome every time. It is one of the few things that gives me dumping syndrome. It doesn't happen right away--about 2 hours later I get a little shaky, lightheaded, and nauseous. I actually feel like I'm going to pass out. I never do of course. It only last about 10-15 minutes but it is a bit weird. I wish I had never started with a muffin. Once you do, it opens yourself to having them again and again. You would do yourself a HUGE favor if you don't have any. Seriously.

I'm having the sleeve in 4 days and I'm scared this is not something I should do
TracyBar replied to LittleLizzieLilliput's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
KristenLe - you have a surgery date now??I do!!! Yippee! 11 days - 10/18! Good news! Happy for you - I know you have been anxious to get the date. You seem to be in a good place mentally with the surgery - wish I was too. I had my first appt. with the intake nurse and it was all very surreal to me. "How am I here? How could this have happened to me?" that sort of stuff going on in my head. With all the research and homework I've done she was impressed - but hearing how good of a candidate for the surgery I am didn't really help me feel better about it. I'm happy I went this road and didn't opt for self-pay which means nobody looks after you. I will need this time between now and surgery to get my head right - and decide if it's good for me or not. -
First Lap Band Fill Is Monday, What Should I Expect?
123crod replied to sheriah's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In and out in about 10 minutes ask for fluro if they have it. Every fill I have ever got is under fluro one before one after then you leave knowing band is in place everything good, still in and out in 10 minutes unless you have questions for Surgeon. Cheri -
My surgeon requested that I not gain more than 5 lbs prior to getting my bypass. I’m still a month out and noticed that I’ve gained 10 lbs since my last appointment. Has anyone else experienced weight gain prior to their surgery date? I have been lenient with my food choices recently since I will be starting the pre-op diet on 4-16...and know my future diet will be very constrictive. I am actually thinking of starting the pre-op diet sooner to counter the weight gain I’ve experienced. I’m curious to know if others have experienced these issues! Thank you in advance for any advice you may have!

It was hard at first. If you're still on a restricted diet that makes it even harder. In the beginning when I could only eat a few bites of a meal and actually wanted (NEEDED) to eat more I was so incredibly frustrated by commercials and food television. Once you get into eating a more regular diet it should go away. Well, with the exception of that monthly cycle. I could eat paint chips off the wall during the day before my cycle starts if I got hungry enough! It's the only real head hunger I feel now. You're less than a month out. Trust me that this does fade and get easier. And I was a carb junkie prior to surgery, too. Those cravings take a long time to leave the body. You will get there. I'll be honest and suggest that you evaluate what you're eating. If you're severely restricting your carbs (40-50 per day) you might consider allowing yourself an increase to see how you do. If you don't see negative effects on the scale but do notice that you're not feeling denied, well, that's excellent progress. Jumping from pre-op diet to a no-fat, no-carb incredibly strict diet post-op isn't an easy transition mentally or physically. I'd reevaluate if you think this might be part of your issue. This is forever - you chose an irreversible surgery. So expecting yourself to live on a diet forever isn't going to make you a happy person, even if it does get you to goal. Branch out your options as much as possible! Spice things up and see how that helps. I sometimes hit a slump (at 19 months out!) where I get sick of eating Protein first and need to make a change in what I'm eating. Good luck, ~Cheri

So I fired my WL Surgeon!
Infernored replied to myrori's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The receptionists at my office were pretty rude too. I would be standing in front of them for 10 minutes before they would even look up at me. My husband was pissed and we told my doc's personal secretary who does all the surgery scheduling and insurance stuff. She admitted that they had alot of complaints and that she was sorry and they were working on it. It got a bit better over the past few months. -
Hi Allie. Thanks for getting back to me, I appreciate it. I was banded June 16 last year. You have done a great job losing 137 pounds! I've lost 92 pounds. I have another question for you. Did your problems start shortly after a fill or not? That is my concern. I had a fill 10 days before my problems started but that is also the day my mom fell and broke her hip. I only have 3 cc's in me. Thanks again for any help. Pam

After a 6 month wait for insurance coverage, every test in the book and the giving up of my firstborn, my banding finally took place 1-29-10 at Dayone downtown Chicago  The first 3 days were rough. I am terrified of vomiting and so far have not, so now I am doing ok. My post op diet is day 1&2 Clear liquids, days 3-7 full liquids, 1 week puree, 1 week soft foods and then introduction to solids. I am following the diet to a T. My stomach growls quite a bit, but the Protein supplements (AdventEase,Myoplex,Muscle Milk) blended with juice or skim milk or even decaf instant coffee granules added, curb the hunger. I am shooting for 60 gr of protein a day and it is a challange. The caffeine withdrawal headaches are finally gone :smile2: I am thinking of going back to work on the weekend. I have one incision that is very tender, and feel tired quite a bit but every day is better! Going for my post op visit in 2 days. Are there any other Dayone people out there? Do you go to the seminars and are they helpful?

Current Non-scale Win
Ray92 replied to jhclikesshopping@gmail.com's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am far from having some of the great wins you guys have as I am only 10 days post op. But waking up in the morning with clear skin, no pimples popping up out of nowhere due to messy hormones and bad eating habits. My skin used to be oily but lo and behold 10 days out and it cleared up.
