    Second thoughts

----hi Jaime I'm exactly 4 weeks out today; surgery was 12.12 Struggling with Hernia repair recovery and scared to really try more soft solids such as tuna and grilled fish or even eggs I tried thinned out oatmeal at one week out and it literally sat in my chest like a bag of sand -- and that was only one tablespoon that took me 45 minutes to get through My doc prescribed me carafate about 2 weeks ago to help with the pulsing pain and pressure so things have gotten Better but I'm still nervous. I'm going to try egg whites this weekend in the comfort of my home and see how it goes I'm getting in more Protein shakes and Water these days which is giving me more energy --- I was super super weak for the majority of the past 4 weeks I think I'm stalled at 210.4 now -- been here since Monday jan 6 after a streak of coming down a pound or so a day Started losing weight on my own in oct 2013 -- from 260 to about 237 Then surgery on 12.12 and now steady at 210.4 after 4 weeks -- I'm 5'7" My ultimate goal is to maintain 165-170 so time will tell; I think it's realistic with all the carb and sweet restrictions and of course our automatic portion control device ???? I plan to start spin classes in a few weeks depending on how I feel -- I loved spinning prior to vsg and miss it dearly So where are you now? How's recovery? I was still pretty miserable at 2 weeks out; was even hospitalized for dehydration on day 11 and just came over a bout of painful constipation (TMI but I wouldn't wish that on anyone) Be sure to Stay hydrated!!!!

    What to expect?

Nate-as a mom and a person 9 days post sleeve I am so proud of you! This is a huge decision that you have obviously put a lot of thought into! I struggled with my weight in High School but never put forth a real effort to address it. You are pretty awesome! As a newbie to my sleeve, I only have a few pieces of advice. Stay off the scale post surgery.... You will hear this over and over but it can play with your head. The weight will come off. In the beginning it is to early to analyze every bite you take because your body is going through so many adjustments. Walk, walk walk.... I had read that over and over and took it to heart. There were times in the hospital I did not feel like walking but I forced myself to get up and move. I was off pain meds quick and feeling great when I left the hospital. I walked the halls every 2 hours which was easy in the hospital since they are always waking you. 9 days post op I feel great and even with the cold I have hot the mall or somewhere that I could walk. The last thing, which may be personal but I have a teenager so I feel like an expert, communicate with those taking care of you. If you are having pain or feeling sick let people know. Most of all, communicate about bowel habits. It's more than most want to know but many people battle constipation and it can get serious. Pain meds, low Fluid intake and high Protein set the stage. It's not a big deal as long as you are proactive. Talk to your dr about their expectations and recommendations, just in case! Hope that wasn't TMI but I want you to succeed! Again, I am so proud!! Cyn
  3. Yesterday over lunch, I hit the ice and played hockey! It was a little akward at first, and I have some great blisters on my ankles, but these are the payment the hockey gods require. I skated ok, and had decent stamina. Being pickup we didnt have a lot of subs on either side. But I defended well against a bunch of college kids home on break. I didn't have much burst, as I feel overall weak. But my balance was great, especially skating backwards. It was such a great feeling afterwards. I forgot the rush of adrenaline-fueled brain chemicals you get after good competition. It was like I was high, or having an out of body experience lol. When I got back to work, it was as if I had drank 2 pots of starbucks high octance coffee. So that's a big check in the box next to one of my big goals. Sore today, but completely worth it. My pads fit really well too, which was an unexpected perk. Another NSV I had at the gym. You know those stupid little towels they give you that are made out of sandpaper so you dont steal them? I was able to wrap one around my titanic butt and stay covered on my walk to the shower! Hallu-freakin-lujah! Previously i had to choose a region to conceal and hold the towel in place lol. TMI I know, but some of you have probably been there done that. Happy day for me! Jay

    Before and after pictures please!

Thank you, everyone! Y'all are too kind! My surgery was 2.28.13 - My skin has done well for the most part. TMI but my breast seem to have deflated but they needed work before surgery so fret not. Toning exercises are really important, no one could stress that to me enough!
  5. Okay so 2 days post op and I feel pretty good. My doctor found a hiatal hernia while performing the surgery so he fixed that. I am grateful because I imagine this will lessen heartburn and acid reflux substantially. After a few sips of liquid I am FULL! I mean Thanksgiving dinner full and have to get up and walk around. The gas ex strips help a lot. No more pain in my shoulder but still haven't had a BM (sorry TMI) since before surgery. Getting comfortable to sleep is painful though so I am still taking the pain meds for resting time. I intend to return to work on Monday and pray all goes well. It is interesting because last night my hubby and kids had pizza and I looked at it and thought I know that tastes good but I am soooo incredibly full I couldn't even imagine! So it was a lot easier than I thought. I am very happy thus far and know the more I walk and as the weight sheds off I think I will have an easier time being around things that used to rule me. I am looking forward to hearing some post op stories as they come this month. New year new us! Here is to 2014!

  8. Hi All, I'm currently banded and am really considering the sleeve. I see Dr Jordaan on the GC from Surgical Weightloss Centre on the 17/01/14 and have to admit I'm a bit on the nervous side. I've had trouble with my band for a long time, and the feelings of not being able to eat one day and then eat the horse and rider the next is not a good weightloss regime. I've not been able to eat meat other than mince with loads of gravy (great for the hips) in what seems like forever, so following any kind of sensible food plan is useless! All very disheartening actually. I broke my back and neck in a car accident 2.5 years ago and when the regurg happens my back goes into spasm making me feel miserable. I've not been out to eat in months, who wants to have soup when everyone else is eating lovely food, then have to make sure you know where the loo is, plus the head in a public loo is less than comfortable... Sorry TMI Anyway, I'd love to hear from anyone in regards to the sleeve and more so if you had the band first, the good, bad and the ugly ????

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

--- Atlanta yes I understand I have to continue the s.s. I did Not have any constipation while on pain meds, dilaudid in hospital then roxicet for a week. i just had diarrhea for a few days and extreme fatigue for a while I Am on a ppi 2x a day and a pink carafate solution 3x a day that coats my stomach for ease with sipping due to major crying Induced hernia pain, pulsing and pressure -- it helps a little but my PA says the constipation is not from those rx's it's from Insufficient fluids Thanks for your support, my family thinks I need to toughen up. Hi Sandy,I'm brand new at this forum thing but an old sole with the #2 issue! I've had IBS for years and 2 weeks after my sleeve felt all the fun to the extreme. I used to live by Movicol regularly but because the built up gases in the clogged bowels (TMI) seem to increase the indigestion I couldn't take it! I found sipping hot water (tea if its easier) while walking around seems to help a lot. It goes straight through within minutes. Also when nothing seems to help you can pick up home-enemas at the local chemist. It sounds awful but really isn't difficult and gives you painless relief in 30mins. It also helps remove the excess gasses. I definitely wouldn't recommend it commonly but for severe pain & 5+ days it's better than a trip to the ER.Thanks to everyone on here posting I had my surgery Dec 18th and struggling so really good to have people with the same experiences/concerns to help!Amy

    December Surgeries!?!?!?

I am using miralsx and I know tmi but I finally just used a suppository and it worked! I was miserable and I had to do something
  12. I need exercises for specific problem areas. 1. My bat wings (upper arms) 2. My inner thighs and 3. A fat roll under my butt! I do some cardio but mostly walking. I've tried to target these areas but to no avail. I've looked up so many online…What exercises do you guys do to help with these areas? Of course I really didn't have these flabby problems until I lost 120 pounds. The extra skin under my butt chafes sometimes and it's a pain. (Tmi I know). I don't think insurance will cover for these areas. I do know that my insurance will take care of my extra skin on my belly. Any exercise suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!
  13. HI Ladies, Has anyone had issues with their period? I take birth control and had my period 4 weeks ago. I haven't stopped bleeding since then. No real heavy flow but spotting every day. My surgeon didn't have any suggestions. Anyone else having these issues or any suggestions? Thanks!

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

-- Thanks everyone for suggestions. Wow that's interesting AtlantaRed. I'll see how it goes but I'm afraid of what they may have to do to my bum in the ER. I guess I have to get passed that if it means long lasting relief and my way back to normal living. I have to get back to work but am in no condition to return at this point with minimal fluid intake, constipation, hernia discomfort, fatigue/lightheaded-ness, etc So not looking forward to anymore pushing but I realize I'll have to with a foot stool now of course Tmi but It really is like an intense workout minus the euphoric feeling

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Again I cannot express how thankful I am to know you all! It is amazing and encouraging to read your victories, recoveries, and your numbers loss thus far. Altho I may not chime in, I'm keeping up w u all bc it makes me happy to share in ur happiness. Ty Tsn for those beautiful words bc last night, I prayed n chatted w God and asked that He guides this journey for me and allow me to take it a day at a time. Well, the Doc came in a lil while ago and said, " ok, how about we try u on 1oz sips of water evry hour but if u spasm, stop and we try the picc line for nutrition on Monday". I was excited in the most cheesiest way:))) so they brot me a bottle of cold water. And thus far, I've tolerated it very well, praise God , and Ty allllll:). I'm sipping n walking. I am just elated. I'm still not hungry, physically or mentally but reading some of u alls food choices, I can't wait to have Wendy's chili, I'm excited:). He also stated that if I did well today w water, he'd add some taste tomorrow! Yippie. Update: surgery 12/30/13 including hernia repair. Have esophageal spasms which has caused my 3 night stay b extended to at least next Monday. Spasms decreased, doc allowed water sips today. Pain wise, not much ever, just spasms which were horrible in itself. Tmi, had two bm's alrdy and voiding frequently, so won't have that to keep me here:). Well I guess I'll lv it at that and Lord willing, my Driver, I will go home on Monday. Plz cont to pray that I can remain complication free as I will for you. Ty and I remain PROUD OF U ALL!! XOXOX

How was your 5:2 day today?

Glad your back....been worried about you..... Florinda I'm glad your back too, sad for your loss and proud that you sang at Larry's funeral..... the weight gain from the exercise is inflammation from working those muscles and your body is working to repair those muscles...such a process and very frustrating to see a gain after such hard work.... I actually lost a lb from yesterday most likely due to my body not being able to tolerate lactose any longer. I get stomach problems about 15 minutes after drinking it. Sorry for TMI.....But I'll take it and continue working on losing some more..

    January 2014 Sleevers Come In!

Sorry if this is to much TMI. But my cycle has came on and surgery is scheduled for Monday. It's going to be a mess.
  19. Negatives: 1. I wish I had known that two Fiber chews a day would have stopped all my pain earlier! I'm good to go now. Take fiber!! 2. I wish I had known how tired I would be the first three weeks. Once past that all gets better. 3. I wish I had known that I really needed to work on my mental thoughts about food too. I focused on portions. Now 7 months out I have major head hunger. Not really hungry EVER but my mind thinks I should snack all day. Constant challenge 4. Wish I had known about this surgery sooner. People need to talk more!! 5. I wish I had known how challenging it really is to wait 30 mins before and after eating Pros 1. I feel amazing 2. I feel sexy 3. Happily married but guys consistently gives me looks and it's awesome! Lol 4. Sex = Amazing TMI sorry, don't want people to miss out on the truth! 5. Buying clothes is so rewarding 6. I've saved three friends by speaking up about the surgery and helping through the process - for the surgery because I told them about my experience 7. My dad is alive and had the surgery after me - he was anti surgery until he saw my success 8. I enjoy healthy foods that I would have never eaten before 9. No more blood pressure issues 10. No more sleep apnea 11. Size 20 to 6 I could literally go on and on!
  20. Hi I recently had the gastric sleeve on December 11, 2013. I now have a yeast infection from H**!! Has anyone experienced this. I tried the monistat 1 day treatment but it doesn't seem to be working. I hate to be TMI but I want to know if anyone else is experiencing or has experienced this right after surgery. :-(

    Compression/Shapewear... again

CGJ do you think those you just ordered would feel comfortable with our lady parts? I hate it when my jeans are snug in that area. Sorry if TMI.
  22. I was banded on the 9th and everything seems to be going ok except my larger incision seems to be getting worse instead of better. TMI warning .... The incision never seems to stay scabbed over for more than a day, has light draining and is slightly painful. I called my doctors office and they seemed unconcerned and said this is not uncommon for the center incision but I am getting frustrated. Has anyone else has this issue?
  23. I am a newbie, and am very embarrassed about this, but occasionally, when I sneeze real hard or after the 4th or 5th sneeze in a row, or laugh a real hard gut laugh, i may (not always) experience urinary incontinence (TMI, I know:( can anyone tell me, if after weight loss, does this get better? or not effect it at all?
  24. Thank you all for the encouraging words! It's so nice to have you all along with me on this ride! I did hit a stall at 2 weeks and it lasted alittle over 2 weeks. It was awful!!! But finally the scales started moving! I am having some issues with 3 things which could make a huge difference 1. Not getting to my protein goal 2. Not reaching my water goal 3. Sorry tmi but no bowel movements I am trying to reach my protein goals but at 6 weeks it is still difficult. I'm probably getting half my water intake too! Could this be the reason it is going so slow? I haven't weighed myself in 2 days and I'm waiting until tomorrow! I go in to see my sleeve dr in Friday and my goal is a total of 30. I would be happy with 30lbs!!
