    The Magic Bullet is Awesome

Hahaha sex toy. I've been thinking about getting the Magic bullet (blender). Do you like it much better than a normal blender? Also, I can understand how you feel about the liquid diet. Luckily my 2 week pre op diet is only two meals of Protein drinks or bars. Then I get to eat one meal a day. (low fat, low carb meal). but I'm not to worried about it. I think the one thing that has helped me is being on Weight watchers since March. I've totally changed the way I eat. Making better food choices and finding other things low cal./low fat that satisfy my hunger. If I'm really wanting something to eat or something sweet, I turn to greek yogurt with honey. My fav. I don't feel so deprived from eating what use to be 'normal" food for me, like pizza, hamburgers, chinese and so on. Sure i might have that once or twice a month, but I may go 2 weeks not eating any fast food or junk. But when I do eat it, its only one meal and much smaller than I use to eat. I think learning how to eat again is the hardest part. It's a mind game. One game I don't want to lose. Good luck with your pre op diet. Hope it gets easier for you.

    Let’s talk about sliming

Mine lasts for as long as 2 hours at a time! One of the reasons that I'm still mostly living on yogurt. And that's with walking and trying to breathe. But I agree - DO NOT ADD LIQUID!

    Protein Intake

I don't see why not - I used to mix in some of the unflavored whey isolate as it cooled. I never tried mixing in the yogurt but that sounds like a good alternative/addition if one isn't restricted to clear liquids at the time.

    VSG /Dumping/Late Dumping

Ok updates: This has absolutely continued to happen. It happened this Sunday evening and monday afternoon. Both times I was minding my business eating protein rich foods (greek yogurt w/ granola & chicken with roasted vegetables) I felt like i might pass out during the incidents but i didn't. Just wanted to cry a little. But i think it has now happened the very most with yogurt, so I may cut back or give it up completely. (It's not the granola... It was happening with every variation of a parfait i made. Only the yogurt is the common factor)
  5. Girl yes this is hard. I'm surprised you're able to eat meat. The majority of us are on full liquids. So in my little carnal mind, I'm trying to understand why you're hungry? I would think just one yogurt, but I can't have that so idk. I would definitely give a call to find out. Best wishes.
  6. I'm on day 2 of my pre-op diet and, I'm hangry. I'm at work , which helps a little, but it's still rough. I restricted my calories for months before, dropped weight and so, I didn't think it would be this tough. Maybe it's in my head. Maybe it's also because there is food with all of the birthdays at work. I usually have lunch with people and I don't feel like it today (but I will go with them and sit at the work deli downstairs). I thought I was mentally prepared, and I am, but it is hard. My stomach growls. They told me 2 shakes, a sensible meal (3-4 oz of meat, 1 cup non-starchy veg and 1/2 good carbs, i.e. quinoa). They said snacks, like SF jello, pudding, oikos trip. zero yogurt, but didn't say how many you can have. I don't want to mess up. I don't have my nut's phone # with me to ask today. Sorry, just venting. This is some hard core mental prep, for sure.

    Is this normal?

It is very difficult for me to get solids down in the A.M. I usually am running late and don't have time to fix a meal so I drink those small activia yogurt drinks in the morning. Sometimes it takes me over an hour to get it down.

    Very Hungry

Donna, Did they send you home with a menu plan and list of foods, etc? I just copied the menu in the above post from the sheets they gave me after surgery. Yesterday I substituted oatmeal for the liquid yogurt, so probably had a few more calories than that, but it still isn't much. It sounds to me like I just need to add in a few more small meals, and pitch the menu. After next week, they have more foods on the menu, but I'm concerned about the pain from just trying rice, and thinking I might need a little more time to reduce the swelling first. I really like Dr. Zapata. He was so kind. I had a rough go in the hospital, vomiting everything, including ice chips for the first 24 hours. He was very involved, trying hard to figure out a solution. (The solution came when they stopped putting meds that made me sick in the IV -- lol) I would recommend him to anyone. Kristine

    August 5th!

I had surgery on Monday, so until this morning I was only in Clear liquids (broth, Water, crystal light, etc.) This mining I started phase 2: Protein shakes, ff Greek yogurt, cream of wheat, sf/ff pudding, sf/ff Jello.
  10. Has anyone on here had trouble with diarreha after surgery and how come the pants I wore right before surgery fit and now that I'm down 24 lbs. there to tight? How strange is that? :sneaky: Does every doctor have a different post op diet for their patient's because as I read alot of the threads here everyone seems to be able to consume creamy broths and yogurt right after surgery? I'm still only able to have clear liquids, clear broths, jello and my protein shakes for about 2-3 weeks, then I can graduate to creamy soups and semi-solid mushies. I would kill to be able to have a creamy soup, but I don't want to screw up the doc's orders. Any info would be appreciated.
  11. I was banded a week ago (8/1) and was able to start mushy foods (thin oatmeal, strained cream soups, yogurt, etc) as well as doing my liquids and I'm having trouble as well. I end up feeling like I have a knot in the center of my chest. I need to take my own advice, but seriously take is super slow. Take a sip, let it go down, then do another. I've found that it helps a lot.

    One day after

Fortunately the hiccups went away after the second day. O had diarreah yesterday and today but I think its due to the fact that I'm already having light soups and Greek yogurt. Other than that I feel better. A bit weak thought. Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app

Hey Paco..Having another rough day. I am so hungry..my stomach is always growling:cry . I know it is worth it in the end. Only one more week until I can eat mushies:banana . I hope I last that long. I am so tempted to try some yogurt or cottage cheese. See you tomarrow. If I need I will call later. thanks for all your help.

    Portion Size Progression

If I drank my whole bottle of protein water, that would give me 40g of protein. But my NUT last time I saw her told me to only try drinking half a bottle each day. She really wants me to try getting in most of my protein through food. I eat yogurt every morning for breakfast, but that’s it. I don't know what to eat with it. I'm going to ask my NUT for suggestions when I see her next week. I don't like the texture of cottage cheese. I usually eat 3 times a day (every 4 hours) but I think I can stretch that out to 4 for now.

    KETOSIS bad breath!

Well, I'm glad you brought it up. I was going to label a new topic, "Good, Bad, and Ugly Breath." We were reading Protein contents on yogurt in the grocery Saturday, and my partner commented about smelling rottem milk or baby poo. Right after I said I don't smell it, she started laughing. The said she was afraid it was coming from me! HORROR!!! I've never been one to have bad breath! I got demerits all through school for chewing gum. I'm a singer and I always have a piece of gum in one cheek and a cough losenge in the other. I should own stock in Mentos Pure peppermint gum. Depending on what I'm doing, I have a two to six piece a day habit. My doctor also said no gum. I didn't agree to that one. I think I've swallowed two pieces in the last thirty years. I'll be extra careful, but I'm not available to be the person people don't want to talk to or sing with. Nope. Also, I brush a lot, four to six times a day, and I rinse with Listerine. I'm with the Orbitz ad... Dirty mouth? Clean it up!

    Vitamins Bother My Gastric Sleeve

Thankfully I haven't had much issues with it, but a few of the people at my 6 month post-op were having some problems. The NUT suggested that they mash up the vitamin into a powder and then mix it with something easy to eat, like a bit of yogurt or applesauce. Don't know if it works or not, but seems like a good idea, and worth a try. Good luck

    Recipes for Full Liquid Stage?

I second the pinterest idea! I really craved salty food by the time I progressed to full liquids. I was tired of sweet protein drinks. I relied pretty heavily on blended soups for this stage but watch out - some things are really gross blended up. A particularly nasty minestrone comes to mind. The absolute best soups to blend are Vietnamese pho (minus the noodles - I also removed the meat initially); japanese ramen (remove the noodles) and miso soup. I think they work so well because they are clear broth soups with a touch of meat, tofu and veggies. I found heavier broth soups containing beans, etc. to be less appetizing when blended. Whatever you do, don't blend any soups with the pasta in it unless you're into meat pudding 😖 In a pinch, you could make any of these on your own but I really loved getting my favorite soups as takeout, blending them and then freezing in a silicone mini muffin pan. I popped them out in labeled baggies and just popped them into the microwave one at a time as needed. Then, I could eat 3 or 4 different soups a day without wasting any. If you can tolerate adding some unflavored protein powder to it as well it's even more nutritious. There are also tons of easy full liquids that are sweet like sugar free yogurt, pudding, jello, etc.

    Hello everyone. First post

Welcome Michelle, This is a great place to come to talk and ask questions. Let me tell you a little about me. I am seven months out and I feel great. I had no major complications from the surgery. I eat at restaurants when I go out socially. I eat a variety of foods. I find by trail and error that I can eat certain fishes over others. I can eat turkey and chicken only in certain forms. I can eat beef if it's slow cooked and soft. I prefer Egg Beaters over eggs but can eat regular eggs too. I eat reduced fat cheese and some times with crackers. I eat greek yogurt with Splenda and sometimes fruit because regular yogurts have to much sugar. I eat a Quest Protein Bar every day and a Protein shake every day to make sure I get in enough protein in. I drink plenty of Water. Probably enough to fill an ocean. LOL. I eat fruit and vegetables. The most important thing you can do is listen to your surgeon and nutritionist and follow the guidelines they give you. Always eat first of all your protein and drink all your water every day. Your feelings are normal about this surgery and you will be glad you did it. I wish you success on your journey into this new chapter of your life.

    Post Opp diet

My doc said to advance to stage 2 diet upon discharge from the hospital. This includes a pre determined amount of the following... yogurt, unsweetened applesauce, cream of wheat, jello, soup, SF pudding for one meal and 60 - 80 oz protein via shake broken into meals or however we can get it in us...sipping all day, whatever.....it trips me out that some people are still on clear liquids for weeks.

    No weight loss

This may sound harsh, but I'm going to address your concerns honestly, based on my success and what this whole process has taught me: You need to see your nutritionist right away. I think you are likely making some poor food choices and that is why you aren't seeing much weight loss. Are you staying away from carbs? Sounds like you need more Protein. Cheerios are not a good bet for Breakfast. Keep the eggs, but try maybe yogurt, kefir, or some other protein instead of any Cereal. It is important for your metabolism to keep eating. Why are you getting more fills if you can't eat that much already? You should be able to eat 1/4-1/2c food at a meal. Any less and you may be too tight. You shouldn't be in any pain or nausea. Maybe you should add in a Protein shake here or there to keep your metabolism up. Snacks aren't vital, but at least 3 meals are. And, are you exercising or at least walking? It is vital too. I don't think your food allergies should hinder your success, since you need to concentrate on the protein. But all in all, like I said, you need to see your nutritionist asap, and s/he can help you build a food plan that will work. It WILL WORK! Good luck!!

    Pureed food

If you look under food and nutrition, and then look under recipe sharing there are sections for each phase, which is where I got some ideas. I'm almost done with this phase, and I've been eating a lot of Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, and laughing cow cheese. I can tolerate scrambled eggs, so that has been good. My favorite dinner is to mix refried Beans with tortilla soup broth and a little bit of cheese. Other people purée chicken or other lean meats. Or some people purée creamy soups, but those don't settle well for me. Other options are cream of wheat or grits or mashed potatoes, but you'll want to watch the carbs.

    Need suggestions!

Can't have Malto meal until soft stage, no yogurt yet either and I can't even have jello I may try the different seasoning in the broth though. I'm just struggling to get enough protein and water and nothing tastes good
  24. Try having a cup of hot tea before your meal. That should relax your band just a little bit and make it easier to eat. Bites should be the size of a english pea or a pencil eraser. Chew until liquid. Put fork down between bites. If you start getting stuck to the point of throwing up.. you're definitely too tight and need an unfill. If it hurts to eat.. you need an unfill. If all you want to eat are slider foods (yogurt, pudding, Protein drinks, soups).. you may need an unfill. (good grief.. this sounds like "you may be a redneck" jokes.. hahaha)

    Soft foods

Taco meat with salsa and fatfree sour cream. Greek yogurt, my wife makes a killer chicken cacciatore with the Purdue trim and fit style chicken, she puts everything in a crock pot around 8am lets it cook for about 8hrs to the point where you the meat just falls off the bone. Baked flounder or tilapia was good too
