    Couch to 5k.....come join me!!

Morning All, Ok yesterday was a write off. I didn't even attempt the 20 min run. Sorry... TMI coming... My TOM kicked into high gear and there was no way I was going to run. Now that the kids and DH are gone for the day, I'm going to give it a try this morning. At least I'll have some privacy! Lyn... there is no way in the world I would have given up the scales just a few weeks post-op! So don't be confessing yet! Go ahead... weigh away! But when you're a year in like I am, then we can talk. lol

    Any October 2021 Surgeries?

Ok did the preop testing today...and I promise I was so ignorant! So had a oxygen test with blood from my wrist which is the worst place I ever gave blood. Then I had an ultrasound and some x-rays and drank some terrible fizzy stuff and had to roll all over the bed to take pictures. Ugh at least the girls were really cool about it and didn't make me feel uncomfortable. (TMI: It came out and I was fasting) After all that went to preop and did an EKG and was cleared for surgery and then hit with the bill $5000 something. So now I'm grasping at straws to get at least half paid so I can have this surgery done. I faith in the Lord and this is something I want to get done so bad and I've already kicked out at least $1000 for surgeon fees. This is covered by insurance but just wasn't expecting the hospital portion to be so much. Oh well. Just wanted to give some insight because I really was ignorant.
  4. @MoMo12onTheGo You're more than welcome -- this is such a journey, it's so nice to "speak" with others on the same journey -- I agree, I've had a hard time finding AZ folks as well, which I find very odd since there are at least three major bariatric programs here in the Valley - Banner, Scottsdale Healthcare, and Bridges at St. Luke's Hospital. I don't know if Banner does, but Scottsdale H/care has a patient-only forum, but even that doesn't have a lot of volume of posts considering the thousands of folks that have gone thru that program over the last 9-10 years or so -- I think after a while, you just start living your life and don't have as many questions, etc, I guess -- At 8 weeks out (have 8-week appt this Wed as a matter of fact), doing pretty well, except constipation is a huge issue -- in fact, I'd say that's the biggest issue I've had throughout the entire process - other than insurance foibles pre-op, but that's a whole 'nother story -- and sorry if the constipation comment is TMI, but you'll find it mentioned throughout these posts -- The first couple of weeks after sugery, was really/really tired, but energy mostly back since about week three or so - still working on all the eating changes, that's for sure... but have lost 39 lbs since surgery in 46 days since surgery, and 15 lbs pre-op, so that makes me very happy ) Do you have a surgery date yet?

    Hi from Ireland!

Hi Edel, Welcome to LBT. Congrats on making your decision to be banded. Three stone by xmas may be possible. I think will take hard work and some exercise. I have lost 3 stone in 4 months (10lb of this on pre-op diet). It def slows down or stops when I'm being lazy. I did have a lot more to lose though. In relation to drink, if your a beer drinker, its bad news. Carbonated drinks are not recommended, they can stretch the pouch. However dont worry about not having a social life, its not a problem. I drink wine or spirits. I dont get drunk though because pre-band, drunk episodes were ALWAYS followed by a bad vomiting session (TMI?) I dont want to take a risk of vomiting as it can lead to a slippage and I just dont like doing it either, but thats just me. I can and do have great nights out and I haven't turned into a water drinking bore. Let me know if you have any more questions. I havent heard any bad stories about Dr. Dillemans. I believe he does bypass as well as band and can push the bypass sometimes. This might just be for higher BMI people though. Elsie
  6. You're so right I'm down 3 pounds since yesterday just by going to the bathroom with significant success ( sorry I know it's TMI). It had been 6 days which is way too long. Seems like I tell yall more about what's going on with me than my own family but I also know that yall can relate. Yes I am from Georgia, howdy y'all:)

    Spring into March 2010 Bandsters

Hi everyone! I'm home. Had my surgery this morning with Dr. Trace Curry. I had a hernia that they had to repair, so I got a little more stomach gas they said. I have to say, that is the worst part of the whole thing so far. My port incision is a bit sore but not unbearable. I hate to be TMI, but I have never prayed so hard to fart in my entire life! :tt1: I have a heating pad and a thermacare on my shoulder trying to break it up and keep getting up and walking around. The walking isn't bad, either. Just that darn gas!

    Hi from Ireland!

Simone: Best of luck on Tuesday. You too Marge!! (Hope ye get the same ward) I got your email last week and sent you a reply early in the week. Is that the email you mean? Didnt get anything since. Let us know how you get on. Don't forget to walk, walk and walk. Coco: Have fun in New York. I'm curious to see how the band reacts for you. I do long haul flights a couple of times a year and as it is my insides go nuts for a few days (TMI?)

    October Surgery Dates

Ok, here I am I'm sorry to have left you hanging for so long. I kind of shut down when I don't feel we'll. The surgery went well, first day is a blur, I slept through most of it, that evening I was up almost every half hour going pee which was exhausting since I had to get disconnected from everything then reconnected every time. I'm sure the hospital roommate was not pleased with me. I didn't like the morphine button, it just made me feel nauseous and really out of it so I didn't use it much the first night after about 10pm so I was very uncomfortable all night. The next day, I had to have blood work and X-rays done and didn't get to start liquids of any kind till about 1pm Thursday. At that point I was given liquid pain meds that helped me sleep and didn't make me feel crappy, it was heaven! I slept so sound and when I woke up felt sooooooo much better. I was walking the halls mostly because I couldn't find a comfortable position to sit or lay since the day before but man was I out of it. I went home Friday and have been just laying low, I walked out to the mailbox and up and down the stairs to get protein drinks a couple of times but have mostly been sleeping. Today I will work on staying awake a little more. I haven't had much gas, but burping feels like a hiccup that hurts and I was finally able the fart last night and that was great! Haha! Tmi I know. I don't bruise really easy so I have a few small bruises but nothing like some people get. Advise for people in the future...definantly do the breathing exercises while in the hospital, they really help. I hope everyone has a problem free surgery as well! Best of luck! Pre-op weight 226 and I an 5'2" 204 day of surgery Surgery date 10/3/12

Tmi alert! Vag fat and peeing!

This has been a topic of convo with me and a few of my sleeved girlfriends...however, has anyone noticed that their "insides" shrunk too??...in the spirit of tmi and all. We've got some pretty "heavy hitters" for s/o's that now feel like they're hitting TOO MUCH. Anybody else experienced this? Sent from my iPhone using VST
  12. Often, wls people have an on/ off record of eliminating. I think that means occasionally, ahem, things get very firm. And unusually larger. At the risk of tmi... some of us need a tool to “break up” these eliminations to flush. I have exchanged info and learned: some use chopsticks (easier to toss), tongs, skewers, plastic utensils..... you get the idea ... use your resources and happy flushing! ( what a strange post!)
  13. Two questions for those who have lost a significant amount of weight! 1. Do your lady parts shrink? Like the lips and mons pubis? Or do they stay fat? 2.after 3 babies, my bladder leaks a little throughout the day, requiring a panty liner. Will this get better when I no longer weigh 275 lbs?

    Failure

Hey y'all! I was banded 1/2009 and for the first two years, lost about 65 pounds. I could never get the fills in the green zone- too tight or too loose. I threw up 3 times a day for 4 years. Not throw up but the regurgitation(sorry for tmi) Basically, I lost all my weight by starving and working out like I was the next contestant on Biggest Loser, except there weren't cameras or Jillian Michaels screaming at me. I had a band slip in 2011- while on a cruise... First cruise I didn't gain weight on but was miserable. Once back home, all Fluid was taken out and I played the guessing game for a few more years. I then gained all the weight I had lost due to my band empty and poor food choices. Like many who have had a failed WLS know, it's extremely shameful and disheartening. Finally in 2015, I visited a new doctor in DFW who suggested a revision. My biggest fear is losing the weight with RNY and gaining it back. Food has and still is an emotional comfort. First step in recovery is admitting, right?! So I've started a food journal with triggers that make me want junk food. I refuse to invest in this surgery (scheduled surgery is next Tuesday... Thank you Jesus!) and gain all the weight back So anyone out there a big sweets person- did your cravings die down after the revision to bypass? What are some tricks that worked for you? I'm thankful for your help and insight! Xx Alyssa Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    2 Whole Weeks!

Who da thunk it! It feels like I've had this sleeve FOREVER. Im not hungry at all, but I have this strange urge to see "what" I can eat. I've licked spoons people. I licked a mashed potato spoon, a chili spoon, a tunafish fork (LOL) and I nibbled a chicken nugget. I dunno why I feel the need. I haven't gotten sick and I was incredibly full afterward, but I just feel like the diet is so boring at this stage and time is ticking S-L-O-W-L-Y. Im not supposed to be on mushies and I'm really afraid I will break something, but I just feel the need to "chew"? I've read about this but kinda dismissed it like I did when my cousin tried to tell me there was NO SANTA...Yeah right!! I don't believe it. Well believe it. Our heads tell us to do stupid things and if they didn't I'd be willing to bet 50% of us wouldn't be here anyway. I've been feeling pretty good; I started work today and haven't had a nap yet:thumbup1: Only other thing(s): Im cold as HELL (if it is cold there). I have the heat on in my office today and I don't want to leave out. My tape hasn't fallen off and one of my incisions looked ugly this morning. It had some discharge (not smelly) and it looked like if I pulled the tape back any farther it would open there was a little pink (MAYBE TMI...but I was worried). I was told not to worry about this and to keep a watch on my temp and other signs of infection. It doesn't hurt at all, but I'm really squeamish and the fact that I see the pink makes me want to faint:eek:. I've lost 10 lbs so far. Probably would have been more if I hadn't had an obsession with full liquids and spoon licking. But I'm satisfied, because thanks to my sleeve---I'll never see those 10 lbs again!
  17. Guys, I don't know how you went back to work today. I'm still so wiped. You must be made out of VERY STRONG STUFF! I am struggling to get in all the water, it's a real chore. The other struggle is the vitamins....vitamin with iron at breakfast, wait 2 hours calcium, wait two hours another vitamin with iron, wait two hours another calcium, and finally after another 2 hours another calcium. This is in addition to getting in enough protein. It's exhausting - mentally and physically. GOOD NEWS (and maybe TMI) but I now can say I am no longer constipated! WOO HOO. What a relief. I did two days of Miralax. It wasn't painful, thank goodness. I'm just wondering if I should keep the Miralax up or wait? I'm not on any heavy pain meds. I might just see what happens. I did some walking today. I also got a ride up to a place called "Nashua Nutrition" in Nashua, NH that just sells bariatric shakes, bars, vitamins, etc. I bought some cream of "broccoli" soup, and two boxes of hot chocolate. One is regular hot chocolate, and the other is "assorted flavors" like mint, etc. I thought it might be nice to have a hot drink in the morning. I'm getting a little tired of drinking/eating sweet things. At least I will be able to add more savory stuff in 10 days when I meet with the NUT. Hope everyone is doing well.
  18. Some cycles I have no food differences, but some (like this one lol tmi) it comes with lots of cravings as hormones fluctuate. Often it’s sweet and junk foody cravings.. (been resisting but hard!) Also been wanting more volume, but been adding extra veg to satisfy that.

    1 Week Post-Op And Think I'm Dehydrated

I have been trying defferent temps. also. I find that warm does seem to go down easier. I know I read that it would be difficult to get all the fluids in, but I had no idea it would be this hard. Today, I have been sipping on a protein shake a little at a time just as I walk by the fridge, and sipping water in between, but I still haven't gotten a whole 20 oz. bottle of water down yet. Plus, I had around 4-5 oz. of cream of chicken soup. I go Wed. to get my staples removed, so I will talk to the dr. then about all my concerns. I'm also a little worried that I haven't (sorry tmi) had a bowel movement in several days. Is it because I haven't eaten anything "solid"? And a question.....would potato soup or pureed veggie soup count on the full liquid diet or is that considered soft foods? I feel like I am having to re-learn everything I ever thought I knew about food!
  20. So thankful for all these posts! I’m 12 days post op VSG and currently going every 4 days (today was on my own accord without Milk of magnesia) I have history like many of you of constipation. While I’m going, it’s more loose watery with solids mixed. I sure hope this regulates. Sorry if that was TMI; I tend not to be squeamish regarding these things. 😊

    Urinary Catheters

I didn't have one, which surprised me a little bit. Five years ago I had a hysterectomy (warning -- TMI ahead!) and for some reason the doctor did catheterize me but didn't give me an enema or anything beforehand..... and I had a bowel movement all over the operating table in the middle of surgery. What a nightmare for the doctor and nurses!!! And a very near-nightmare for me.... talk about contaminating the operating field. The doctor was extremely worried that I would get an infection, and for 5 days they gave me 4 different antibiotics intravenously. I was lucky -- no infection. But that experience did make me ask the bariatric surgeon about precautions for the lapband surgery. He said he was very surprised my gynecologist didn't give me an enema before surgery, but that it wasn't necessary for the lapband and neither was a catheter. My surgery was at 1:00 pm and I hadn't had anything to eat or drink since midnight the night before so I guess my system was pretty well cleaned out by then!

    Sex...

My Dr. Also said as soon as I feel up to it. (He didn't mention my husband may be up to it.. before I was even considering it...) I am 2 weeks out... and the last few days my husband and I have had sex twice. Heading into TMI area... but being honest... first time... I was a little nervous, afraid he might hurt me with too much weight on my abdomen, so I held his body up with my hands a little... Second time, I was on top, so no pain or pressure on my stomach. Just a thought ladies and gents... kinda private and embarrassing,.. but a real question deserves a real answer. We didn't go through all this so our spouses and significant others wouldn't want us... this is a good thing. Its nice to be loved, just be careful.

    Can We Talk About...Birth Control?

Hello to everyone and a very big thank you to all of you for taking the time to respond. Unfortunately, the guy I was seeing broke it off with me and I never had to worry about bc in the first place (sorry if TMI). It was a pretty upsetting breakup. But at least thanks to all of your input, I have some ideas for the future, if anyone special ever does come along.
  25. I am wondering if anyone else went through this. I am 13 days post off and have severe constipation. Nothing worked suppositories miralax colace benefiber.
