frustrated with inconsistent weight loss... anyone else?
COGSP replied to coops's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I am only 1 week out of getting sleeve plication, down 10 lbs this week and 10 lbs the week prior to surgery- waiting for that dreaded 3 week stall... anyway, what I've noticed in all the vertical sleeve forums, is that most people are basically doing a low-carb, high protein- Atkins' like diet. As such, you are probably in ketosis, (if you have a weird taste in your mouth- it's ketones being excreted - ANYWAY... I have lost countless weight doing the Atkins diet (problem was... I like my carbs Way too much - did eat huge quantities and never really felt full- could be because I was a preemie baby- barely 5 lbs and was on solid foods after the 1st week- ..... another topic... To start your weight loss, believe it or not... you may need more fat calories..... your body will go into starvation mode. Using full fat instead of light may jumpstart your weight loss again... What I have learned from many countless diets for the last 30 years..... if you eat carbs, you have to eat low calories/ low fat... if on low carb diet, you need your energy from fat calories and should not go low fat...- it will stall you.... I am not a nutritionist...just giving 30 years experience... -
Well tomorrow, 12/2 is my surgery. I am not nervous yet, but I'm sure I won't sleep tonight. I didn't have it as tough as some others and had no pre-op diet. However, I will have a drain and a catheter. I maybe would have preferred the pre-op diet instead. I want to thank all the "veterans" on here for all your posts on various topics. Your posts have convinced me I can do it. Thanks to Laura-Ven, RJ's Beginning, Lipstick Lady, Gamer Girl, Butterthebean, Madame Reverie, Fiddleman and many others whose names I have forgotten. We didn't necessarily share any threads together, but always found your threads and answers interesting and your willingness to always answer questions about the 3 week stalls like it's the first time you heard it asked. I will hopefully see you tomorrow on the loser's bench and Good Luck to all the other 12/2 sleevers as well!

female only Cramps From Hell And 3 Week Stall.... Bleh :(
sabrina140 posted a topic in The Gals' Room
Holy balls. I have always had bad cramps, but TOM started a few days ago, like clockwork, no surprises (thank goodness), but the cramps are awful! Ahhhhhhhh! I just tried to take some tylenol, it still takes me a few trys to get medication down, so now I am sitting in my cubicle at work, feel stuffed full of the water I gulped, and crampy... please tell me the cramps get better as months go by?! -
gah isn't that frustrating?! Just as you get to a significant milestone, your body decides to stop and smell the roses. I wanted to get below 175 as that would have been my weight 19 years ago. My body decided to take a 3 week stall for no apparent reason. Finally got there but I was ready to tear my already-thinning hair out. hang in there. It has no choice but to surrender those pounds.

Stalling Already :(
MommyTawnie replied to SkinnyHereICome's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I to had the 3 week stall and it was a bit frustrating, but around 4 1/2-5 week the weight started coming off. Then around 6 weeks I stalled again for a week, but now it's a pretty steady loss every week.. I can't believe I am almost 10 weeks out.. I've done good and lost during the 10 weeks 50lbs!!! -
I'm a slow loser. I've been told it's because my BMI is on the lower end. So after my 3 week stall I only lose 1lb a week. I have not lost anything for almost 3 weeks now. So I guess I'll go back to my liquid diet and see if that helps.

With so many more pounds needing to be shed this is a bit discouraging! I was sleeved on Apr 23rd and in the first week lost about 18lbs. I felt tired but also like this is exactly what I needed to do. Then, I hit a brick wall. I went back to work on Wed last week and haven't lost a pound since my Thurs weigh in. I know I probably shouldn't weigh myself every day but the changes on the scale really make the day easier as I adjust and recover. So the last 4 weigh ins have been very depressing. I have heard of the dreaded 3 week stall but why so soon for me? Anyone else already gone through this? I am just hoping this doesn't mean that I am going to be slower to loose and easier to gain even post-op.

This is a Public Service Announcement concerning Stalls & Plateaus
sophiepants replied to gamergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I feel like I'm the only one who's not had a stall. I read Butters 3 week stall on his signature when I first joined. At the time is was my only knowledge of there being a stall. I thought crap I'm a month out its going to happen any day. I was scared. Then my heart went out to everyone who had a stall! -
Hello All, I had my RNY on 8/4 and lost almost 25 lbs in two weeks. At week 3 my weight loss stalled and I keep gaining and losing the same 5 lbs. from 175-180. I’m only 5ft 4 so this is way too soon for this! I eat about 600 calories a day, hitting the 50-60grams in protein and usually 50 carbs or so. I’m not cleared for exercise but in all honestly I’ve been lazy and tired so no exercise. Where could I be going wrong?!

Revision from Lap-Band to Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass
OmaJ replied to ARKMom's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
It really varies on different people as far as their wt. loss (& MANY things factor in, of course). Mine is slow: not counting the 9 pounds in fluid I gained from IV's in the hospital, and I hit a stall at 3 weeks post op (which lasted 3 weeks!) YES, THAT STALL IS FRUSTRATING, but "This too shall pass" praise the Lord - I lost 18 lbs. in 7 weeks thusfar. HW 205 (Keep in mind, not even 5' tall) SW 188 Post op from IV fluids: 197 CW 170 Yea! 😃 Thankful to break the 3 week stall I had! -
Hey so I was sleeved 6/29/20. I've done a lot of research so I see the 3 week stall is a thing. My question is how long does it last?? I've been at a stall gaining and losing the same 3lbs for about a week and a half now. It's just insanely frustrating. I feel I shouldve lost more by now. I'm not over eating. I roughly eat 1/4 - 1/2 cup at a time and only 3 times a day and 1 or 2 shakes a day if I can get them in and of course as much water as I can. I walk every day and starting Monday I can start basic strength training again (minus core for now). Help!? What am I doing wrong?? Hw:290 Sw:266 Cw:257

OVER A MONTH POST OP AND NO CHANGE!
LipstickLady replied to sleevinIT's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Normal. Many of us hit the 3 week stall which is common. You also need to consider surgical weight gain from Fluid retention. Your TOM will cause Water retention as well as any excess in salt from bad food choices. Hang on, follow plan FOR REAL, and move your body. The weight will come off. -
Slowed to 2-lb loss per week, 1 month out...suggestions?
Sassygirl06 replied to stacechase's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't lose anything my second month out from surgery. I hit that dreaded 3 week stall. It lasted a few weeks, and then I began loosing again. Even after that though I only lost an average of 10 pounds a month. Keep your spirits up though, a loss is still a loss, and all of those little losses add up pretty quickly. It is also better for your skin to lose slowly, it gives your skin the chance to shrink up with you, instead of being wobbly. Losing slowly also helped me with hair loss. I only lost a little hair because my body wasn't put into such a shock mode. Good luck girl! You will get there soon enough! -

Wt Loss Not What Expected! What Am I Doing Wrong?
BenisaMartim4 replied to innerme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're not doing anything wrong. The shock of surgery can cause you to retain and even gain weight. I gained 10# in the hospital. It took me awhile to get that back off. Then I went through the 3 week stall. It was a little while before I got the ball to rolling, but after I did it for sure gathered no moss. Just have patience. Every-one's journey is different. YOU WILL LOSE!! Best wishes :0) -
Lapband to Sleeve.. not losing weight now
hmm33502 replied to yvonne74's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is a stall!!! That is the good news! 3 women in my family have been sleeved and all 3 have stalled 1-3 weeks out for 2-5 weeks! I was a revision from a band and I stalled at 1 week for 2 more weeks. I have since lost 10 lbs in 8 days once my stall stopped! Both sisters have been successful with the sleeve. 150 lbs and 70 lbs lost by each. You may double check and look at your calories. Once I started eating more Protein and veggies (I was on any an all foods at 3 weeks!) and exercising (which you are already doing!!) then I dropped it! Keep on going. If you are following what the dr says with food, Water, protein, exercise, then you should be golden. Research the "3 week stall" because it is supposedly a thing. It has happened with 3 out of 3 sleeves in my house! Good luck! You have got this! Banded 2010 weight:327 Sleeved 12/28/16 weight:253 CW: 230 GW: 155 Heather in Texas -
scale hasn't moved since i started soft foods
Sassy Pants1 replied to abarta83's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're experiencing the much dreaded and always frustrating 3-week stall. Almost everyone stalls out at 3 weeks. I had great loss for the first 17 days and then it's been periods of loss followed by longer periods of no loss. I think this is just the way it's going to be. I always felt I could eat more Soup, I just stopped with my measured amount. You definitely feel the restriction when you eat dense Protein. Your experience sounds completely normal. No worries! -
Energy Surge 1 week Post-Op?
Hope4NewMe replied to Victoria_Faith's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the same experience and at about the same time. I think it only lasted for about a week though so enjoy it while you can. Then I hit the 3 week stall and everything slowed down for about 3 weeks. After that my energy started going up again and stayed above my pre surgery level ever since. I hope your energy levels stay high and don't worry too much about the exercise. Usually the more I exercised the more energy I had and it didn't affect hunger at all. Good luck and take care! -

If you read a lot on this forum, you will learn about the dreaded 3 week stall. I am one of the fortunate ones that did not experience it, but many here have. I've read that it can last up to 2-3 weeks. -
Can Splenda cause you to stall or gain ??
Lissa replied to juzmejnee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Juzme, I think you've hit a stall. I drink decaf tea with splenda daily and I've had no problems with it. I did have the dreaded 3 week stall. It lasted 2 weeks, then I had a big drop, so I don't think Splenda affects me. Try changing things up and see if something jump starts the weight loss. Losing splenda is as good a thing to mix up as anything else. -
Weight gain in first couple days after surgery ?
Dub replied to Dub's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can see where this would have freaked you out. If I'd not been warned ahead of time (on here) I would have been standing there scratching my head and reaching for my phone to call the surgeon and make some noise. Much respect for you traveling so soon after surgery. That couldn't have been much fun. I'm prepared for the 3-week stall. Ready indeed.
