Think I am hitting the dreaded 3 week stall. Any early May sleevers gone through it yet? How long does it last on average? I am going to do some measurements soon and see if I am at least losing inches, trying to stay positive and not let it get to my head.

Hello You are doing AMAZING! Don't be discouraged about the stall, you have hit the typical "3 week stall"... it is completely normal and happens to just about everyone. It's just your body's way of dealing with all the change. It sounds like you are doing great sticking to your diet. When you are in a stall your focus should always be "Water, Protein, vitamins" and not on the number. Stalls happen throughout the entire weight loss journey. They are frustrating, but you work through them. Also, keep an eye on how your clothes are fitting during this time. For me, I almost always dropped a size while I was stalling, so I didn't mind too much!

I Wish Someone Had Told Me....
Spirit Fire replied to ShouldBlittler's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Very happy I found this website and forums before and after I had surgery. Almost all of my questions and concerns were addressed via this website as well as a couple calls to my surgeon's office. But to answer the original question, during my first month, I was not expecting: to feel so fatigued during the first month. to have the 3-week stall which lasted almost two weeks. to have the nausea during the first week and am grateful I finally got some anti-nausea medicine. the constipation. to feel hungry. to panic over how I would eat out or even eat when I returned to work. Now that I am 10-weeks into this process, I was not expecting: to have such amazing self confidence. to look at online shopping catalogs saying, "oh, that's too baggy (big, unfitted, etc.)" to enjoy participating in family gatherings and work events. to have such a good handle on what I can eat and what my sleeve can tolerate. to walk 3 plus miles a day comfortably, while talking and smiling. to allow the "slowness" of my post-surgery weightloss to be a good thing. to enjoy the levels of flavors that 3 oz of food can offer. Again, I just want to reinforce that scanning through the forum topics truly helps to open your eyes to the multitude of experiences everyone has on this journey. -
Wow - 500 versus 1500 calories is a huge range. Wouldn't it be nice if everyone could agree on what sleevers should eat?? I think 800 is probably a good number for you to land on. I can be a challenge to eat that many calories early out, but it will get easier with time. My surgeon recommended 600-800 calories a day during the "losing" phase of things. I averaged around 650 calories and did well. Some people need more than that to feel good, though. So you have so listen to you body and gauge what is the right range for you. Stalls suck. Sorry you've hit one. I had a 3 weeks stall that happend about 6 weeks out from surgery. Nothing seemed to break it. Some people have luck when they tweak their calories, increase carbs, increase Protein, increase exercise, etc. etc.... but I have frankly found that the best strategy is to just keep following the "sleeve rules" (that is, your diet plan) and trust the stall will break. And, believe me, it will! Hang in there! You're off to an awesome start!!

When To Expect My First Stall?
Liliana Arleen replied to Preacher's Wife's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Usually the 3 week stall is the most common first one but you will have stalls often Don't worry,as always with hard work and dedication they shall pass -
thank you for sharing your story!! I have my surgery scheduled for 6/4 and am nervously questioning my decision. However, I am at your starting weight although a bit taller. For most of my life I weighed in the 130's and then cancer happened when I was 31 and I went through menopause early. and a whole bunch of other stuff that really packed on the pounds. For the last 6 years I have worked to get the weight off but when I would hit those 3 week stalls I would give up - I figure that the sleeve will give me the tool to get through those stalls because I won't be able to gorge myself. My mindset it also differnt - food and carbs are really not my friend and the tool will help to give me the strength to say no. I hope to fine myself where you are in a few years and I can't tell you how much I appreciate you telling me your story! For some reason I seem to be reading a lot of stories of regret but you give me hope. If I made it through a year of chemo I should be able to make it through this change in my life!!!

Ayay, This is NOT a diet. This is a lifestyle change. I don't know how far post-op you are, but I'm guessing you're in the 3-5 weeks category. If so, search here for the 3 week stall. Almost everyone goes through that stall and finds that the scale is standing still for a bit. Take your measurements now, so you have something to refer to later, pay attention to how your clothes are fitting as well. Are they looser? If you did take pre-op measurements, are you losing inches? I lost my first pants size during my 3 week stall. I put them on, zipped them up, and they fell to the ground! I'm not following any diet except: 70grams of Protein and 64 oz of Water per day. I don't track calories, carbs, or anything else. I have started adding in more "good" carbs because I've upped my exercise routine, but that's about the only time I worry about carbs. Stalls will happen, but they happen because your body needs the time to adjust to the changes. I shape-shifted in the last few months, losing a good bit of mass in my hips and thighs and developing muscle definition in my arms, tummy and thighs. In that same three months, I lost 10 pounds. Now my weight loss has started up again, but I imagine that I'll go through another shift in a month or so. The best advice I can offer you is this: Don't let the scale run your life. Weigh less often and concentrate on your protein and water goals. The weight will take care of itself. Add in some exercise, even if it's 5 minutes on the treadmill or exercise bike. Once it's part of your routine, you'll miss exercise when you don't do it. Good luck!

I Need A May 1St Buddy! Im Feeling Depressed!
Calicolea replied to brittneyly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Does anyone know why there is a 3 week stall? Medically or otherwise? I got sleeved right after you, May 4th, and I'm also in a stall. I have gained and lost the same pound for the last week. I keep reading about the dreaded 3 week stall and am assuming that's what I'm in..... but like you I am so discouraged. I had to do the pre-op diet for 10 days and lost 10 pounds on the pre-op diet, and was happy with that. I had my surgery and when I got home (a whole week later) I hadn't lost anything, and I was very discouraged but chalked it up to fluids and swelling. After I got home I started losing quickly and the weight flew off for a week. Then it was like I hit a brick wall and haven't lost since. I've been walking and started gently swimming 4 days ago. I know I'm not as active as I was pre-op, but still have pain on my left side so taking it easy. I was able to start mushies today. I needed to lose 87 pounds and have lost 24 so I have 63 to go. Hang in there..... you're not in your stall alone...... looks like a few of us are there with you. -

chunkychic30 replied to JimmyGotSLEEVED's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
any one sleeved around the 24th I was ,and I have to know should i be worried. The first 12 days post op 20 pounds feel off. After that nothing. I have heard of the 3 week stall but i am now past 4 weeks and have gain 2lbs back. Am i doing something wrong ? I was given the go on solid foods this week and of course thats ok, I am averaging 400 calories a day and 50 grams of protein. I wasnt able to walk in week 3 due to a abcess and being in alot of pain when standing, anyone have any ideas to kick start the weight loss back up ? I really thought by now i would be down at least 30lbs. -

Gain Weight And Dont Know Why
minaleigh replied to daly contreras's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You could also be still in the throes of the inevitable 3 week stall. You're a month out, but you could have started the stall at 3 weeks out. Mine lasted about a week and a half. That could be why, as well. -
Learning To Eat Again And Very Slow Weight Loss
Sleeved&Hopeful replied to Grateful05's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Hey hun. It sounds like you hit that famous 3 week stall. 3 weeks after surgery I see tons of posts that people hit a stall for 2-3 weeks. Trust me, you will start losing again. -
Well I am a little over 5 weeks out. I got the 3 week stall for 5 days, and now I am at a 5 week stall. The difference between this one and the last is that I keep bouncing up and down on the scale instead of just stopping and then going down. I'm only down 27 lbs and frustrated it decided to come so soon. I know everyone gets them, so maybe I can get some advice. How long did your first stall last? What do you feel you did to break it?
-
So I haven't lost any weight in like 5 days. I know its the 3 week stall. How long does this last?

I seem to have hit the dreaded 3 week stall. Any advice for keeping your head up???

Hopefully Coming Out Of 3 Weeks Stall - Lost Inches
Catracks posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I knew the stall would break, but seriously? 3+ weeks? I did lose inches. Pants that I couldn't begin to fit into now fit easily. How is that physically possible? Getting all my size 14s down from the rafters. I really like some of my size 16 pants, but if a wear a size too large it make my pooch look bigger - not flattering at all. -
This helps me a lot too, thanks guys. I am at that 3 weeks stall.

Is There Something Wrong With Me? I Have No Problem W/3-4 Oz
LadyIvy replied to Isabel'sGma's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It looks like you are doing great! I am worried often too, because I healed really fast as well. I am doing what I am supposed to and recently figured out that when I hiccup, it means I am done. Took me a month to figure that one out. I hit my 3 week stall (which lasted about 5 days) and now I lose a lb about every 3rd day. I am getting in between 600-1000 cals a day and because we heal so quickly we have a better chance of getting in all the required protein so there won't be any hair loss! You look like you are doing great! Just chew chew chew and go slow. -
Where Are My April 2012 Sleevers?
kiki19 replied to JimmyGotSLEEVED's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was 10 pounds down at 1 week. I did not weigh at 2 weeks, and then I had heard about the 3-week stall...so at 4 weeks, I am down 24. I weighed a few times and it wasn't moving, and then I waited a few days and it was down 6 pounds...so I try not to weigh every day or think about it every day. I have probably lost 31 pounds total...I did not lose weight on pre-op liquid, but lost about 7 or 8 pounds during the month before surgery. -
So Is This The 3Rd Week Stall?
Lauranbob Mc replied to BABEwiththePOWER's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been in the infamous 3 week stall now for the past 2 weeks. I know I shoulldnt complain since I have lost so much weight in the beginning. but 2 weeks and now 1 pound lost. I eat between 600-800 calories per day 60-80G of protein less than 35% carbs and less than 22% in fat intake. I know I am not exercising enough but I still try to do something everyday even if it is walking a mile. I am very frustrated right now. -
Kansas City Area Sleevers?
Believinginlisa replied to Believinginlisa's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sunday was crazy, we had just arrived home from a weekend of fishing at Truman Lake. 3" of rain, sirens but no touchdowns in Pleasant Hill. Hope your back is better. Readying for citywide garage sale. Hoping for big crowds and little left on Saturday. Had a 3 week stall in April that seemed to end last week. Will know on Thursday if the scale continues downward slide. A couple pounds away from onderland! Lisa from Pleasant Hill
