    Decisions, Decisions.

Well apparently, biological kids aren't really an option for me, apparently - which is fine. In fact, I'd hope they'd just take out all the stuff that's not working correctly for me haha. (the malfunction of my girly stuff isn't due to weight) Its come down to an insurance coverage question, really. I want the sleeve but will settle for the band if I _have_ to - and then pay for the sleeve revision later if need be. I don't have the funds to do it now but hopefully in the future.

    GERD vs Sleeve

I started with the lap band in 2008 which is how the GERD started. I revised to the Sleeve in 2010 thinking it would help, not knowing back then it would get worse. It has progressively gotten so bad over the years my reflux is out of control. I take tons of medications and now including cough pills, syrups, drops, I regurgitate in my sleep... etc. My insurance has just recently approved me for another revision to the Rny Gastric Bypass (thank GOD). I do try to put the word out not to take that chance, who wants to be revised so many times? It's either revision for me or future Barrett's or esophageal cancer. Guess which one I chose?
  3. Hello I had revision 3 and half months ago and everything has been fine up until yesterday. I ate a meal and then drank about 40 minutes after and started to have some burning in my stomach area. It's not heartburn and I'm not sure how to explain it but it feels sort of stretching and burning feeling. Has anybody experienced this? if so what is it? I see my doctor next Friday. If it was a late leak, I would most likely know right? Thank you.
  4. I havent had the revision yet but I used the binder for a few weeks, I had to cut it down when I lost some weight. It helped me keep my muscles tight and brace myself while getting up. I had a 4 year old at the time and she stayed with me the whole time I was at home recovering. I think you will do fine by yourself, I would recommend telling someone you might need help during the day and have their number on hand. Since you will be alone make sure you get all your fluids and protein in. Good luck!
  5. Revisions are notorious for not giving the same "bang" as the original surgery. It sounds like you are doing everything right, so use the tape measure every couple weeks and don't weigh as often, and just stay the course. As you get more energy, the gym will be your friend.
  6. I had my band to sleeve revision on June 22nd. I lost 23 pounds as of July19th, but for 4 weeks now I have lost and gained the same 4 pounds. I walk more than I did before and I am down 45 pounds since June 1 when I started the preppy diet. I upped my calories to about 900-1100 per day from 500 or so a few weeks ago hoping it would help. I eat 65ish grams of protein 30-50 carbs and drink lots of water. I know it just under 3 months I am still down 45 pounds, but a month with no weight lost is concerning me. I feel like I didn't pay nearly $20,000 to lose 45 pounds, especially when I paid $13,000 for my band 5 years ago. My insurance won't cover anything, labs, nutritionalist or anything considered related to my surgery, so I have only been twice to the nutritionalist. But I feel like I am following the guidelines. Anyone else have an experience like This? How can o start losing again?

No weight loss weeks 5-9 post op

Revision patients may lose weight a at a slightly slower rate than those who have virgin first-time sleeves. However, bariatric surgeons don't always inform prospective patients of this potential reality to avoid discouraging them. Slower weight loss often happens to revision patients because they've already experienced the metabolic shock of a previous bariatric surgical procedure. Per the Texas Bariatric Specialists website: http://texasbariatricspecialists.com/failed-weight-loss-surgery-revisions/

No weight loss weeks 5-9 post op

I also had a revision from Band to DS. I'm 8 week PostOp & I went to my followup appt & only lost 30#. I'm all excited cause I don't know when I've ever lost 30# in a year- let alone 8 weeks! My Dr said that it was good cause it's giving my body to react to the weight loss. I am loosing inches. Just keep up the water & protein!! Let your body heal & do it's thing! [emoji7]

    What Led To Revision

Another failed lap band here! I am getting revision to RNY tomorrow morning. I am so excited to get this awful thing out of my body. It did NOTHING to curb my hunger or appetite. All it did was make eating healthy food hard, and make eating slider food rewarding. Couldn't get a chicken breast and a cup of broccoli down because it would get stuck in the band but I could eat a greasy cheeseburger and a milkshake with zero issues. I wish the lap band procedure would be banned all together. It's useless at best, and potentially fatal if it's left alone to cause issues.

    What Led To Revision

I had a lap band for 7 years and I had it removed almost a year ago due to GERD. I'm revising to RNY in the near future.
  11. Hi everyone! Question for you. Let me preface this by saying I have contacted my dr. office and will follow up accordingly. I'm 1 month post op from band to GP revision. Two mornings ago I stretched in a weird way, and felt a popping or tearing under my left ribcage. It hurt and it's still sore. I called my doctors office in a panic and she said "how do you feel"? Hahaa! I actually feel fine. No fever or nausea. I'm eating just fine, still getting in my fluids in but it's just sore like I've been working out. She said it was probably scar tissue but watch for hemorrhaging in my bm's. (Yah that will be in 3 days! Sorry.. Lol) Just wondering if anyone has had something similar. Thanks!

    VSG surgery

I had the Lap Band in 2005. While I lost about 80% of my excess weight, my life with the band was very miserable. I had horrible reflux and later found out that I had been living with a slipped band for years. I had gastric sleeve April of last year and am very happy with my decision. No significant complications and I feel great! One thing: when I had my sleeve done, my surgeon said that the procedure took him at least an extra half hour while he sorted through the scar tissue from the band. From what I've read on this form, that is quite common when you see revision from lap band. For me, all that scar tissue and extra work to deal with it made my initial recovery a little different. I saw others talking about feeling great and being up walking right away. I felt like I had been hit by a Mac Truck! I couldn't tolerate the laps around the nurse's station and was lucky to make it about 20 feet down the hall. I stayed an extra night in the hospital and was a little more on track by day 2.
  13. Medicare doesn't have a pre approval process. If u meet the qualifications (bmi of >40 with no comoribities or >35 with 1) u just take ur chances and u find out after the surgery whether they paid it or not. At least thats what my dr office insurance coordinator told me. Medicare paid for my lapband in 2009 and my sleeve revision 10 mths ago (at bmi of 28. I had a band complication that necessitated removal). Not sure what/if ur other insuance is, I'm just speaking for Medicare. Good luck! Enjoy ur vvacation
  14. Dr Aceves did my band to sleeve revision about a year ago. Glad you did so wonderfully. Like you I had very little pain and couldn't believe it was so uneventful. I don't mind flying but was really surprised that it was only 3 days after surgery and I felt no pain on the flight and it was from San Diego to FL with a 3 hour layover in Dallas. Good Luck on your journey.
  15. I totally agree with your NUT, either Bypass or the Duodenal Switch (DS). I see too many people end up doing revisions to Bypass after doing the sleeve. This was one of the reasons why I changed my mind as well. This surgery is a huge deal and I didn't want to go under the knife more than once. After all the Bypass is the standard of all WLS. The sleeve only gives you restriction, but with the Bypass you get both the restriction and malabsorption (not as much as the DS though). I say do your research speak with ppl that did both.
  16. I'm with MollyMolly, It's more how long I stay full then how much I can eat. I'm ready for a fill now but I have revision surgery on the 9th (not band) and have to wait.
  17. That's such great news! Thank you for the feedback! I'm relieved to know that my weight loss won't stop them from a revision. I know I need it, I have all the willpower in the world but when it comes to food it's been a life long struggle. It's definitely and addiction i've been fighting all my life. Aside from the past 6yrs. Let me tell you, i've never been so happy with my weight not consuming my entire life. Thanks again!
  18. Hello everyone, I'm five months out after 17 years of banding. I am SO GLAD I made the switch. I won't bore you with my band and band revision journey. I will focus on how amazing having a sleeve is. It's the surgery I hoped I was getting 17 years ago! With the sleeve, I can drink my protein in the morning. No waiting hours for the mucus cap to dissolve. I can actually drink a good bit of water. I do not throw up. I only did once and that's because I ate too fast. Like it was said above, I don't feel like I'm being choked with food sitting at my esophagus. I am able to eat healthy foods (meat, salad, veggies). My head is in a better place because I had a wonderful two months or so of having NO interest in food. It gave me a great start/ restart. To answer some questions from above, I had my band removed first and then was sleeved 7 weeks later. I did gain weight in that time, but it wasn't a ton- five pounds? I thought it would be more, but I hadn't been feeling much restriction for years so... At first I was upset about the two procedures and thought about going with RNY because my surgeon would have done that it one. But, I found the waiting time fine and I'm glad I didn't do so much at once. I have no pain in the port area. The band removal surgery was very easy. I was in and out of the hospital in four hours with very little pain. If you have questions, just ask!

Required 2 Year Weight History?! Uh Oh.

Another Cigna revision, they no longer require 6 months supervised diet. Now its only 3!!! My third appointment is early June. Finish all my testing mid June, my guess is we will be submitting to Cigna in about 5 weeks. Yikes!!! Im super excited! Just hope it all works out.

    hello!

Hi my name is honor I'm from utica ny and Ive been over weight all my life! I got the lap band 3years ago and lost about 80lbs and felt pretty good but was unable to eat food got stuck all the time and due to food getting stuck and getting sick my esophagus swelled up so the dr had to unfill the band and I gained all my weight back and feel so uncomfortable. Well I decided to have a revision and get the bypass I am currently waiting for insurance approval. .they are deciding if they will just approve it due to complications with the band or if I have to do a 3month supervised diet. I am so nervous since I hear some bad stories about the bypass and I feel that my family is not happy about my decision but I need to do this for myself!!

    Not Losing weight: please help!

A lot of people understand just may not still be hanging around here when it gets to that point of removal etc... Those that do well don't always want to hear negatives and don't want to "jinx" their band situation. For those of us that don't do well or have complications it can be very frustrating because we want that same result. It doesn't mean we don't work as hard our bodies are just different. I just never was able to lose the weight and ended up gaining back what I lost before the surgery. It's hard to pin point exactly why but possibly with all my issues I just needed the malabsorption that other procedures have. I ended up being too tight and vomited too much and ended up with acid reflux which a lot of people get and even without any saline in the band was still having issues. So it was removed. I waited about six months before deciding to revise to another surgery, the RNY. My daughter had RNY a few months after I received my lap band and I've been with her through all the ups and downs but in the long run she's been successful. I got the lap band in 8/07, was put in the hospital for chest pains in 9/08 (acid reflux) and had it removed 10/08. The removal was covered by insurance and I'm in the waiting stages of approval for the revision to RNY 6/09. As far as I know it should be covered and am crossing my fingers and toes! Good luck to you Nancy.

    My Flipped Port Story

I have had two (yes two!) port revision surgeries for a flipped port. Both went without incident and I have been A-ok for the last 2.5 years! So glad to hear that things have been going well with you. Sorry you had the experience in the first place! Good luck on your journey!

11 years post op Lap RNY

I am ten years! I hope that with that much time I won't lose my weight as slowly as some revisions say that they encounter with their new procedures.
