I had mine May 17th and my hormones have been all over the place. I know exactly how you feel. It’s normal to feel upset and have mixed feelings. A friend of mine that had it told me it happened to her and I would feel that way as well. She was certainly right. It’s a huge adjustment. Give yourself some time. Does your Bariatric Team have support meetings? I know I’m planning on attending some myself. You hang in there. I will certainly be glad to talk to you if you need anything.

Hey Health4longerlife, First thank you for being so transparent about your current and prior struggles. I just had my RNY surgery about a week ago and have gotten so much from reading others posts. I applaud you for making this decision for bariatric surgery, no matter what your "why" is. I feel you have a clear idea of what is going on and what to do but now you just have to take that step. I would advise you to look into therapy. I agree that the cost can be high but the rewards will be immeasurable. I have used https://www.psychologytoday.com/us to find a therapist. They will list their pricing on there as well. Please consider this for yourself. You have already come so far and I know there is so much living left for you to do for you and your loved ones. We are here for you! Therese

I'm sad VERY SAD!
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to ScaredButReady2.0's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Since you're so early out from surgery, I can tell you this is normal. Hormones are wacky because this is a MAJOR surgery. The first 2 weeks I couldn't drink very well at all. I was on an all liquid diet for 2 weeks post op and it really hurt to drink. But, and I know you don't want to hear this, but it got better. IT WILL GET BETTER. Once you get to the mushy stage, it'll be Heaven. I'm 6 weeks out, and I can eat normal foods. The trick for me, since I never lost my hunger hormone and don't have restriction, is to stick super close to my bariatric diet. But I can tell you, you will be able to eat normal foods again. Maybe not rice or breads or pasts (or if you do, extremely small amounts), but meats, veggies, etc will definitely be ok. You just gotta get there. I know it's hard, but the end results are so worth it. I've lost 33 pounds in 6 weeks (an average of 5 1/2 pounds per week). And I had a miserable 2 week stall where I actually gained 5 pounds. And since then, once the stall broke, I lost those 5 pounds plus more. So while it's tough right now, make sure you get in your protein (shakes, protein water, etc), and make sure you're walking everyday. It really will get better. It took 3 weeks before all of my pain went away, but now I can do whatever I want exercise wise, and I can eat what I want as long as I make sure A) I don't eat portions that are too big I don't graze throughout the day C) I only eat what my stomach can tolerate (lettuce is a no no for me), and D) I stick to 60-80g of protein a day, less than 50g of carbs a day, and less than 50g of fats per day. You'll get there, and you'll look back on how you feel right now and really feel proud of yourself for how far you've come. -
Over 2 month pre-op diet!?! Anyone else?
AmbiiNicole replied to AmbiiNicole's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So the surgeon has mean on a bariatric brand of protein shakes which I bought 2 flavors. As for the snacking.. He told me I can't snack at all. The only food I can consume is the lunch. I have however, I been snacking on pickles when I get super hungry which helps to munch on something. Everything I've heard of other peoples pre-op diets are soooo different from mine. I know every surgeon is different so trying to follow as much as possible. -
Hey I had gastric bypass for reflux (5/13/22) as I was just on the side pushing it for weight loss too. Is anyone else here for this reason? Also, because I didn't go through the normal bariatric process beforehand, I don't know what the follow-up should look like either. I saw my surgeon 2 weeks post op and now not til 3 months with nothing in between. No nutritionist, no therapist, no nothing. Is this common?

Blah...my first stall...

Awww thanks Yeah, I'm pretty active on here because I love it here. The staycation was a last minute thing, and it really worked wonders for me. I'm kinda in a weird place because I have to exercise because I have MS and have to keep moving to keep my mobility and muscles going. but when I do a lot of exercising, my weight slows down. So i have to find a happy medium to do the exercising my neurologist wants (my bariatric surgeon wants me to exercise, too) while being mindful of how my body responds to working out. I've only been doing the treadmill and exercise bike. Now I'm cleared to add cardio and working with weights. So I'm trying to figure out where the sweet spot is for everything. But at least I have the food down, finally lol -
Multi vitamin

I use the Bariatric Advantage multi chew w/o iron (fruit flavored assorted). The first two days I thought they were gross but now I don't mind them at all. They do not make me nauseous. -
I've tried three different brands of vitamins, including a non-bariatric vitamin, and they all make me sick. I think it's me.

Over 2 month pre-op diet!?! Anyone else?
AmbiiNicole posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So my surgery is scheduled for end of August. I have been put on a bariatric protein shake for breakfast and dinner. I am allowed to eat a lunch that consist of 3-4oz lean meat and 1-2 cups of certain veggies, no more than 500 calories, low fat. I have to lose 40lbs before surgery. Anyone else have to do this? If so how did you get through it and how well did it work? -
Meal ideas for all stages after surgery?
catwoman7 replied to Erin18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
for recipes, check the blog "The World According to Eggface". She's a long-time bariatric patient and is very active in the bariatric community. She also loves cooking and has recipes posted for every stage. -
I bought the bariatric fusion multi vitamin chewable. I have to take 4 a day. They're making me nauseous when I take them and they don't taste great. Does anyone have any recommendations for other multivitamins? Also can I take over the counter ones?? Sent from my SM-G970U using BariatricPal mobile app

Anyone have a surgeon in west Phoenix that they love? My daughter’s doc, even thought I really liked him is in Gilbert (over an hour away) & my friend doesn’t like her doctor in Glendale. I had a RNY over 4 years ago & need someone for follow up because I am having horrible problems with nausea. I had surgery for medical problems not related to obesity. My surgon isn't a bariatric doc & told me to get all of my info from the internet 🙄 I don’t think he realizes how much different info is available on the internet! Any names would be helpful! TIA

A friend of mind lost her butt too after bariatric surgery. Once she was healed or should I say 9 months later she started going to a Body Contourist where suction cups was used to stimulate the butt muscles. Her butt is awesome now. Sent from my SM-F916U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Meal ideas for all stages after surgery?
liveaboard15 replied to Erin18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Avoid soda by not buying it anymore... The amount of sugar in them is insane and the carbonation in them wont be your friend after surgery. As for just water... Water is great. But i also have a Gatorade zero almost everyday as well to switch it up. I was addicted to pepsi before surgery. I drank lots. as for sweets. on bariatric pal website they have a store section where they have sweets that are ok in moderation. including chocolate. Its actually pretty good. -
Blah...my first stall...

I feel this rn. I've been stuck in between 250 and 252 for like 2 weeks now and it's so annoying. I started running to see if that helps since I wasn't getting much exercise in before. Thats also a fun experience as a bariatric patient...actually losing weight on vacay and having just as much, if not more fun that you would've consuming a bunch of stuff and gaining weight like in the pre op days haha Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app -
I'm three years out and still get nauseous occasionally, but I can trace it directly to overeating or eating the wrong foods. I'm definitely not nauseous all the time. I second the suggestion that you go to a bariatric surgeon, since your original doctor was not one. "Get your information from the internet" does not seem like sound medical advice to me.

@lizonaplane & @ShoppGirl are correct. You’ve just had pretty major surgery, your hormones are out of whack, your digestive system has been altered, something you relied on to provide emotional support (food) has been taken away from you, … Give yourself time to heal & recover -physically, mentally & emotionally. And I’m going to say it: it does get better & easier. The staged return to eating is to support the healing of your tummy. In a few weeks on soft foods you’ll be able to have some of that tender beef stew (just no rice unless it’s cauliflower rice). Yes, it will be a much smaller portion but you’ll be eating more slowly so your family will finish their serve about the same time you likely be finished too. Think of all the new recipes you & your husband will be able to try or reinvent with alternative ingredients. I also agree with @lizonaplane suggestion to meet with a therapist. Many bariatric patients swear by the support they received through therapy & how it helped change their relationship with food, how they see themselves, etc. I still drink just not as often & not as much. I say I drink quality (like champagne not sparkling) not quantity now. I often go out to restaurants. French, Italian, Japanese, Greek, etc. fine dining, bistros, cafes. I’m just careful with my menu sections. And I’m not afraid to ask to take leftovers home even in fine dining restaurants (took home duck breast, duck rillette, parsnip purée & baby carrots the other night).

How long ago did you have surgery? If it's in the last month or so, what you're feeling is completely normal; many people have "buyer's remorse" after surgery. I sure did! I couldn't eat anything without pain and nothing tasted good for three months or so. By about 4 months out, I started to enjoy eating again. I can eat pretty much anything now at nine months out, though smaller portions. Which is exactly what I wanted. I could eat beef stew with rice (although, I'm not a fan of rice!). I just have to be careful not to eat junk food, which I can eat too much of too easily. This is a very hard process and I recommend you meet with a bariatric therapist. My family and I really enjoy going out to eat and trying new foods when we travel. We still do that, I just don't finish everything now. You will still be able to enjoy your husband's cooking. I think I appreciate food more now because I'm actually savoring it, not just inhaling it. I think it will get better for you.

Maybe you should see a bariatric surgeon for a consult In addition to all the other specializes mentioned.

Need some advise
lizonaplane replied to meganboyd's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm sorry you're facing this. It is true that you likely will not lose as much with each successive surgery. If you don't have a complication from the sleeve (like GERD), your insurance will not likely approve another surgery. Most insurance only covers one bariatric surgery per person, lifetime. Other options you have include meeting with a nutritionist and bariatric therapist to work with the sleeve you already have, or paying out of pocket for the bypass . Good luck! -
I had my Sleeve done last November, right in the thick of Covid. I am not sure if Covid made a difference but I imagine it did. My private hospital was picking up a lot of ops from the NHS. It was very busy. In all it took 8 months from start to finish. I was initially told 4 - 6 months. The hospital that I went to had to stop its Bariatric work and have its practices audited. That took an extra, very frustrating 2 months. Every surgeon has their own pre op diet some lucky people have none or just a day on liquids. I got 3 weeks of milk and vegetables. High carb veg was not allowed.

I had a RNY over 4 years ago. For the last 6 months I have been very nauseous most days. Somedays I can’t do much. It’s not anyone thing like the smell of food or what I eat. I have been to my PCP, a Gastrologist & a naturopath. No one can figure anything out. I have had a barium swallow test & an EDG. Everything looks normal. I’m not comfortable going back to my surgeon because he’s not a bariatric surgeon. I had the surgery for medical reasons not related to obesity. He told me to get all my info from the internet. I don’t think he knows how much different info is on the internet for gastric bypass! Has this happened to anyone else? If so what was wrong & did you do?

I would suggest meeting with a dietician/nutritionist to get a good idea of what to eat and with a bariatric therapist to work on the eating disorder. Also, make sure whoever is prescribing medication for anxiety and depression prescribes medications that don't cause weight gain, as many do. Have you had surgery yet? Your profile says you are pre-op.

November Surgery Buddies!!!
Spinoza replied to Tristenhilpert97's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Honestly - having studied it scientifically as best I can, I think that stalls just happen randomly and then just end - also randomly. They're part of all significant weight loss journeys. Upping or downing: calories; protein; water; exercise (including type or intensity of exercise) might coincide with a renewed loss but it's not likely to be the cause. Keep doing what you're doing and you will keep losing weight until you're done. Yes, more slowly and then MUCH more slowly, as you approach goal. I've had the same calorie intake for the last 4 months, and more or less the same level of exercise. I'm losing approx 2lbs per week but not at all in a linear fashion. Average it all out, keep on keeping on, and you'll be fine. You'll lose until you stop losing. You have done amazingly well @DaisyAndSunshine -
Bariatric Advantage Ultra Solo with Iron Vitmins
Dschmitty posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Has anyone else had an upset stomach from the Bariatric Advantage vitamins? I’ve tried taking it before breakfast, during breakfast and after breakfast and still get an upset tummy for an hour. I like that I only have to take one of these multivitamins but don’t like how I feel afterwards. Does anyone have an idea on how to take it without feeling yucky?
