New Anti-Depressant Medication Effect Pouch?
HappyHomeCC replied to McSteph100's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have not been banded yet but I am concerned about stuff I am taking, I am taking capsules of prilosec and they kill me when they open up inside my stomach... caplets are easier on me. It says on my pharmacy paper I can open them up onto a soft food but not chew, so I am thinking, yogurt may be the best choice. I am also taking zoloft as of 10 days ago. 50mg I didn't like how I was feeling 6 or 7 days in so I have been breaking them in half vs taking a whole one...... Dr thinks my anxiety issues are creating the acid situation. This is all new to me. Only about 5 weeks ago. My preop endoscopy did not show any thing unusual and the h-pylori was neg. -
Cranky sleeve is not so cranky anymore!
mchap25 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
So excited that all of a sudden this week I am tolerating more food. Still not getting in necessary calories, but I can now tolerate yogurt and cottage cheese. Protein drinks are good too and I can finally eat 1/4-1/3 cup of food per meal for at least 2 meals a day. Adding a third tomorrow. I'm even getting more and more fluids in everyday. But here's the best part: My daughter gave me a hug yesterday and backed up and said, " What's that?" I looked at her funny and she lifted my shirt and pressed on my rib. Then she said "I've never felt that before. I'm so proud of you mommy." -

Can't wait to have a scrambled egg and some yogurt tomorrow. Feeling pretty good though. -
Thank you all of you!! I seem to be going back and forth on the 1lb. Yea I am on regular food but I really watch it. They said I was a fast healer and if I am comfortable eating it then its fine but be mindful about it. I couldn't eat a hamburger but more like salmon and some salad. I eat some crackers and suck on them to get them mooshy. But I also am on soups and yogurt. But I am proud of one thing, NO CAFFEINE or REGULAR POP!!! Good Luck to all of you!! And THANK YOU AGAIN

It has been just over a month for you, and I think 10 lbs is a very respectable loss. As for meals, I make salads (Romaine, Parmesan Cheese, grilled chicken breast, cut up a hard boiled egg, and use light Caesar dressing), using a container for dressing and the other salad stuff. I also sometimes put Turkey meatballs in spaghetti or marinara sauce, some Parmesan cheese on top in a microwavable container (meal portion) and nuke for 2 minutes. That way you eliminate the pasta at least for the time being. When you feel ready to try pasta, use the whole grain type. Better for you. I also like chili. I brown a package of ground turkey, scrape of the narly fat stuff that cooks off it, then add a 15 oz can of kidney (light or dark) or pinto beans, undrained, a 15 oz can tomato sauce, a small can of chopped green chilies, some chopped onions, and simmer until hot and bubbly. Then I sprinkle Kraft Free fat free cheese on top and let it sit for a little bit so the cheese will melt. The I get out my Tupperware and divide up the whole pan into about 6 meals or more. Then you can nuke for 2 minutes to reheat at home or at work. No fridge at work? Get an insulated lunch bag that uses freezer packs. I carry a ready to drink protein shake, some yogurt, a small can of V8, some nuts (not roasted and salted, but the kind you bake with--I get almonds, walnuts, and pecans and count 10 of each and put in a snack bag--they can be a little hard to digest, so you might want to wait a while on those). I also get cereal and snacks from kaysnaturals.com. They sell them in 1-1.5 serving bags, and I will often pour the cereal into my yogurt to eat, or eat it by itself. They also have protein chips in different flavors. They sell a sampler box that allows you to try different flavors. I also make crustless pizza. You may find that chewy bread tends to get stuck (I do fine with fat free croutons on my salad-they disintegrate rather than get chewy). I take two microwavable dishes (meal portion size), cover the bottom with 1/3 to 1/2 jar of Ragu Homemade Style pizza sauce; cover with Hormel Turkey Pepperoni; cover with toppings of choice--I like peppers and onions and keep Birdseye Pepper Stir Fry in the freezer to use--it is just chunks of 3 color peppers and onions: cover with Kraft Free fat free Mozarella or Cheddar; nuke for 2 minutes. As a recovering pizzaholic--I would work out at Curves, pick up a pizza for dinner, and eat the entire 12-15 pizza myself--this really satisfies my craving for pizza. Try it. A lot of post-op eating is trial and error. I don't do low carb, but I try to eat good carbs, like cereal, salad, whoe grain pasta. I have read where some people have a problem with salad greens; I don't. Sometimes I don't know for sure until I try something. Just be sure to chew thoroughly. Some of the harder to digest foods will go down if chewed thoroughly. Hope this helps.

I feel like I can eat too much for 2 weeks Post Op
GummyTummy replied to Loristi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lori, You won't really feel much restriction with anything liquid. Your stomach is basically a funnel right now for Soups, and shakes. The same holds true for yogurt. The reason you feel full with the egg is it is slightly more dense. =) You are doing fine, just keep in mind as you move to soft foods to keep that slow pace you are using on the yogurt -
I feel like I can eat too much for 2 weeks Post Op
Kandis SupaStar Hill replied to Loristi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm glad I found this topic, if I make mashed potatoes like a Soup, ( with cottage cheese and soy milk), I can eat it, I can tolerate pudding and greek yogurt if I eat slowly, (30-45 minutes per meal). I too felt as if I can eat too much even though I was sleeved a week ago today. My surgeon and her team let me leave the hospital on a stage 3 diet. The other day I had a few slices of pureed roast chicken and broth and I ate it as a soup. I tolerated it okay, but I started feeling as if I was eating too much or moving too fast. Thank you so much for creating this post, if you, (or anyone), has any tips, or believes I am moving too fast please let me know, my follow-up isn't until the 10th of September and I feel as if I'm doing things wrong even though I'm sticking to the plan, ( weird I know!) Even healthy foods can be sliders and its an insidious habit, one I think we ALL fall into without realising it. If I eat something for lunch that includes solid Protein like chicken, some grains like brown rice and vegies, I'm good for six hours. I dont get cravings. So, to keep my weight down, just eat like that, right? If only it were that simple. The trouble is your tastes subtly change and what you fancy is usually something easier to eat. YOu dont want to get stuck in the restaurant. You dont want to get stuck in the staffroom in front of your colleagues. You dont have time to eat really slowly. For me the things I fancy for lunch are stuff like cheese on rice cakes, yogurt with nuts and muesli stirred through, cheese and crackers. All healthy choices. But all foods that i can eat 500 calories worth of with no trouble and foods which leave me with the feeling that I fancy something sweet an hour or two later. The effort involved in a) making a non slider meal and eating a non slider meal subtly convinces my brain that those foods arent appetising. dinner is the exception for me. I eat tiny dinners. Because dinner is never sliders. But I can eat a huuuuge bowl of oatmeal. But only one egg on toast! So if you can eat it relatively easily and tend to fancy it often, its probably a slider to some degree. No matter what it is. But its just a matter of being aware of the habit. For me, I let myself have what I want but I might add something REALLY hard to eat (like an apple!) to the mix just to add that satiety.

I started purees a couple days ago. Haven't tried them yet, but my plan has fat free refried beans on the list of recommended foods. Just make sure to puree them - they recommend maybe thinning them out a little. I've tried a scrambled egg twice. Takes me a long time to finish it. I love cottage cheese, so have had that (did NOT like it with protein powder mixed in) and it goes down well. Have also had chicken salad made with canned chicken and greek yogurt, whirled in the blender. Today will try some roasted red pepper and tomato soup with unflavored protein powder.

Now That We Got Here How Do We Get Past The Ice Cream Demon
Alexandra replied to NY LAPSTER's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey there, I'm the original ice cream addict!! I have totally come to terms with my addiction, and embrace it as part of my personality. It has not gotten in the way of my weight-loss goals, although certainly I realize that indulging will slow me down. But a world without ice cream is not a world I want to live in. I have some form of frozen dessert, I'd say, five days a week. We keep ice cream in the house and though I try to buy the no-sugar, no-fat variety that's not always the case. At ice cream stores I'll often go for the sugar- and fat-free frozen yogurt, but again, not always. I never really pigged out on ice cream the way I've heard others admit to--eating a whole pint of anything has always seemed like A LOT to me, and now even more so. My servings are typically more like 8 ozs. It doesn't feel like something I'm fighting, because I consciously gave up the fight. There's a balance that lets me maintain or lose weight and still have ice cream in my life. If I decide I'm not losing fast enough or whatever, I'll know the reason why and know that action is within my control. You've lost 80 lbs in what, 6 months!?!? Holy cow, man. I think you deserve some ice cream!! There's no rush to kick a habit that will cause you distress to quit; we're not in this to feel deprived or depressed or cheated out of a normal life. If you're truly overdoing it, just try taking it down to a better level. I'd worry that if I were to try kicking it altogether I'd just find some worse thing to adopt as a vice. So I've settled with the demon and call him "friend." -
Congrats on the approval. I am a firm believer in the protein shakes for pre-op weight loss. I had 2 shakes per day and a very small meal and had no problem losing the required weight. Just be sure to use the low carb protein shakes, not the muscle building ones. I prefer the chocolate whey powder from Walmart, mixed with skim milk and if needed, add some fit anf lite Dannon yogurt before blending. I was banded the end of August and still have the shakes on a daily basis.

6 wk post op - down 30lbs ( wohooo )
LovinCheryl replied to dat_sweetmami's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My surgery was April 8th. I am down 29 lbs thus far. Next week is my one month appointment. Today I told my self I am going to make 60 grams of protein. I just drank the nastiest protein drink mix with the Gosh awful EAS AdvanEDGE shake. I ate some yogurt (15 grams). I am at 42g and I did that ricotta bake in the cupcake pans so I am thinking one of those will put me at 50-52. Wish me luck! -

Same here! After a few bites, I get this pressure in my chest/windpipe area, that is only relieved by walking. I have been able to eat more often, but I can't take in a lot. This morning it took me two hours and 10 minutes to eat 5oz of Chobani yogurt. I am not complaining, I am just adjusting to my new life style! Still working on the protein though! -

There is not really a set plan that she has for me. she just told me greek yogurt or eggs for bfest Protein and veggies or salad for lunch and the same for dinner. I have been following that plan, she said she was proud that i had lost 2 lbs, but i feel like it should be more. -

1week post op and hungry
GotProlactinoma replied to Jennifer143's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 5 days out but not actually hungry. I'm having a hard time getting the water and the protein in. My goal today is to get more protein in so I'm not so weak. I think my BODY is hungry but I'm not feeling it as hunger, I'm just sensing a weakness. My nut allows Greek yogurt and veg juice too now, maybe yours does too, just for a variety for my hungry co-sleevers? I bought them but haven't touched them yet. -

10 months out, first official plateau...
JamieLogical replied to AMDRN's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
How much Protein are you getting? Does MFP show you a pie chart of where your calories are coming from between protein fat and carbs? If so, what are the average percentages? Are you getting in all of your Water? My best guess is that, if you just started going to the gym two months ago, your body is right now trying to adapt to the increased level of activity. Most people experience a slow down in weight loss when they take up exercise. Keep up your activity level and maybe try introducing more high protein Snacks to curb hunger. When I started exercising intensely around 4 months post-op, I had to add a morning snack to my regime (a reduced fat cheese stick), because I was getting hungry between Breakfast and lunch. I also added a little granola to my afternoon greek yogurt, so the little bit of extra carbs would help fuel my late afternoon workouts. -
Where do You get these fruit flavored Protein drinks? I am having trouble with milky and whey products after surg. However yogurt and puddings and cottage cheese are fine my Protein shakes are harsh to bare. A fruit flavored drink may be the way to go to get the protein in??? Can you tell me where You get them?

Hey great job on the weight loss but try to go for healthier Snacks if your still hungry between meals nuts, yogurt and jerky
