Surgery tomorrow 11-10-20
kellym1220 replied to mlmx1138's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good luck!! I hope you have an easy, breezy surgery! Don't worry about puree stage...refried beans are a life saver! Also, my nutritionist said as long as you chew, chew, chew anything is a puree! LOL So I wouldn't eat steak or anything, but tuna fish and chicken salad made with greek yogurt and mashed well with a fork worked for me. YOU CAN DO THIS! -
Surgery tomorrow 11-10-20

I didn't puree any meats, either. I had a few during the soft food stage (tuna and shrimp come to mind), but I think when I was in the puree stage I ate things like Greek yogurt and pureed cottage cheese. -
I did call my surgeon's office today and got the okay to start soft foods but limited it to greek yogurt, cottage cheese, and poached eggs. Nothing solid. I had 1/4 cup cottage cheese for lunch. It was soooo goood!!! Sent from my SM-T710 using BariatricPal mobile app

Just finished my breakfast of some Two Good vanilla yogurt mixed with protein powder and a splash of vanilla Premier shake. Mid-morning snack will probably be some Progresso creamy tomato basil soup (also with protein powder). I gotta tell ya... I have never tried that particular soup before, but I had some yesterday, and it was so good I wanted to cry LOL... Anyone already sleeved feel like they are constantly watching the clock? I am in the no drinking 15 min before or 30 min after stage (it will soon switch to 30 & 30 I think... gotta read my paperwork again), and am having such a hard time getting my water in all day. I used to be a guzzler and would drink SO much water, but now, it's so hard. I could start soft foods today, according to my surgeon, but I think I am holding off on that for a bit, because I am scared after all the complications I had.

I'm home now and doing great! Still doing fine with my liquids. Sometimes I get a mild discomfort probably because I forget to sip instead of gulping it down like a horse. I'm on phase 1 of postop restrictions...two weeks doing 1- 2 ounce liquids every fifteen minutes with the goal of getting to 64 oz of liquid in the day. I'm allowed my protein shakes, broths, diluted apple and grape juice, crystal light, decaf coffee and tea and some other drinks. My surgeon also allows for watery yogurt and apple sauce. I'm also on 4 medications. One (muscle spams) I'm suppose to take for 2 weeks, second one (stomach acid blocker) is suppose to go for 4 weeks. The other two is an as needed basis since they help with pain and nausea. Fortunately, I didn't need the pain or nausea medications yet. Crossing my fingers it continues this way. I am not hungry, but do feel mental desires. However, while going through the pharmacy nothing made my mouth water or ache to have it. When I got home and saw the food I normally eat, I did have a moment of " I wish I could eat that" but I overcame it very quickly. I don't have a choice, but to keep going forward and there's no turning back which I'm quite happy with. Besides in time, we'll be able to eat again just smaller portions. I'm moving about, but I have to remind myself that a few days ago I had surgery. My body has so far handled it well.

Protein Intake Help lactose allergy
AZhiker replied to NewWorldMe's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Use plant based protein powder and shakes. such as Orgain with 20 gm of protein. Ripple milk is great with 8 gm per cup. I developed a whey intolerance after surgery and don't consume any dairy products now. 90 gm of protein is a lot for a woman. My surgeon's guidelines for women were as follows: 60 inches tall (5 ft): 50 - 60 gms per day 65 inches ( 5 ft 5 in): 60 - 65 gm per day 70 inches (5 ft 8 in): 65 - 70 gm per day Only very tall men need to get in 90 gm/day per my surgeon. So I wouldn't worry too much if you can't get in that much.. Anyway, I use soy or oat milk yogurt, Ripple milk, and plenty of legumes. I have no problem getting in my protein every day. It's not hard, even being lactose intolerant. -
Hello All I am new to this forum. I am 6 weeks post op and have lost about 30 lbs. My issue is that I need to have an intake of 90 grams protein and am not hitting it. I am eating protein rich food weighing everything, drinking shakes and eating yogurt. My problem is that most protein shakes make me fill ill. Even the yogurt turns my stomach. I am also allergic to milk so everything is lactose and milk free. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I know there seems to be a lot of controversy about the brand, but it was what my nutritionist recommended... I got a sample (on my own) pre-surgery, and it was great as far as not being able to taste it, so... I use Genepro. Pre-surgery, I tried it in some yogurt, and in just plain water. Couldn't detect it in the yogurt at all, and could only marginally in the water (it might be undetectable if I added some Mio or something...) The Premier Protein is just all gross to me now, though I still slog through because I don't want to waste the ones I have.

Revision completed
Christina760 replied to Tracyringo's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi I had my revision Monday 11/2. 11/3 was horrible. Not as easy as the sleeve was and I’m starving lol I cried, my nurses (2) sucked and I was in a lot of pain! More then before way more but today is day 5 post op and I’m better. My incisions started to get infected bcuz I had a rash from the dermabond so I had to Peep it off and now I’m on a horse pill antibiotic. I’m already dropping weight. I only felt a little acid last night when I had Greek yogurt. My doc gave me a diet plan to follow from day 3-16. -
I had my bypass this past Thursday morning, the 5th, and it went well. My doc also repaired my hiatal hernia while he was in there. I spent one night in the hospital. I feel very fortunate because I had no nausea, and didn’t even need any pain meds until I got home Friday afternoon and started moving around more. When I strain at all, even getting up out of a chair, I get sharp pains on my left side where the incisions are. But I feel fine if I’m just sitting still or standing. I’m looking forward to tomorrow because I’ll be able to add a few more foods. After two weeks of only jello, popsicles and broth, that yogurt is going to taste awfully good!

Thanks for replying. I'm averaging around 800 calories a day which i thought was quite good so early (only 3 weeks out of surgery & on the puree food stage). I could increase my milk intake as a quick calorie boost but it makes me feel a little sick. I don't want to add protein powder to anything as I'm hitting at least 70g of it a day via lean meat, protein water & protein yogurts (i hate the shakes too🙂) Thanks for the reminder that this is very early still & the tiredness is normal for now. I'm seeing my nutritionist next week so will discuss & show her my food diary. If I get any useful advice I'll post back for others!

One week post-op and on liquid diet.
Blyss replied to Bobbifaces's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm only 10 days post op, so pretty close to you in the process but I've not had any troubles getting liquids down. I never felt full at all with liquids. I started adding yogurt in yesterday and it's the first I've noticed starting to feel a little "full" before finishing the cup. I can tell you I have a LOT of head cravings but no true hunger I don't think. That having been said, I'm frigging sick of liquids. Soo ready to move on to purees Monday. You can mix protein powder into a lot of pureed foods. I still eat a lot of pureed foods with protein powder. Examples: yogurt, refried beans, mashed cauliflower, pureed black bean soup, protein oatmeal, no-sugar-added applesauce, sugar-free pudding. I like to use flavored protein powder for sweet things (example: chocolate protein powder and powdered peanut butter mixed into vanilla yogurt; cinnamon roll protein powder mixed in protein oatmeal) and unflavored for savory things.

Whipped cream! Very few cals for major decadence. Also the pumpkin spiced version tastes like a whole pumpkin pie so on coffee, yogurt, jello, etc. I imagine it would be perfect Walmart: Aldi (seasonal?) : This is a double serving of pumpkin spice (12g - 30 cals - 2 carb - 2 fat) 😍 -
Hi there I'm on week 3 with all the best will in the world I cant get 60g of protein. I do the shake in the morning but it takes an hr to drink 200ml , monday I started eating protein yogurt for lunch 17-20g. Dinner a plain soup,I should mix some plain protein in but the texture it adds to plain soup 🤢 As for hydrated some days I run clear others darker I found Sarsaparilla or orange in the water makes it a little easer to keep sipping

Hello Soft Foods! Started Wk 3 diet today and per my doctor's diet I can introduce the soft foods like loose grits, yogurt, cottage cheese. All I can say is GLORIOUS after several weeks of a liquid diet. I was feeling so incredible weak and was wiped out after walking around with the kids trick/treating. Although I am still on the protein shake, I had plain greek yogurt this morning for breakfast, some cottage cheese with a sprinkle of pepper for lunch, and grits tonight. I feel like I cheated last night as we made pork butt in the pressure cooker with chicken broth as the base and I siphoned off some of the liquid for dinner. I had to take an extra step to skim the fat and remove the chunks with a sieve and towel, but it was a naughty pleasure. Mrs made beef vegetable soup tonight so I plan on using some of the broth as the base for my grits that will be dinner. As a home chef, I gotta have some flavor and using all kinds of stock to cook things is a great way while staying healthy since I can't add in butter, cheese, or the like. I opted for grits to keep things gluten free and am using the stone ground organic from Bob's Red Mill organic grits (aka polenta) since the instant tend to get a little bland and gelatinous. Should be yummy if only a teaspoon worth. Anxious to see what happens with the weight loss after reintroducing solids. Walked three miles with the Mrs. this morning to try and compensate for reintroducing solids but shooting for at least another 20 gone by xmas. That might be a little ambitious and I'm not rushing it. Love the fact I am 30lbs down coming out of liquids. I do feel like I loss some muscle and I'll be anxious to start resistance training after week 4 (bands at first). To everyone out there in bariatric land, you can do this and I'm so excited for everyone who decided to take the initiative to begin the path towards a healthier and longer life. Hang in there.

Sometimes I get coupon for Thirty off a hundred or twenty off etc. my tablet numerical keypad isn't working at the moment weird. https://www.vitacost.com/garden-of-life-dr-formulated-enzymes-organic-digest-tropical-fruit some things I can't do without and one is digestive enzymes. I also eat yogurt every day for dinner. I mix in protein powder, a bit of powdered peanut butter, a little low carb granola called Sola (didn't add that until I hit maintenance) Now I add some fine golden flax. And maybe some pepitas sprinkled on top. -
@GottaBeBlair and everyone Hello everyone, I am new to this forum. It seems that GottaBeBlair and I had the same surgery about the same time, so I wanted to see if you are having the same symptoms as I am having. I am 1 week post op sleeve revision to sadi/sips/mini ds. I have just started full liquids, protien shake, yogurt +water. I take multi vit from bariatric advantage 2x day. I have been experiencing strong intestinal gurgling with explosive mini diarrhea with little black stool that smells terrible. in addition to the very smelly flatuence the only way I have found to calm everything down is to take liquid pain medicine. have you been experiencing similar side effects? and did your Dr. tell you how long this will last?

Surgery is on Tuesday. Don’t know what time yet but I’m glad I’m almost to it.
I’m on day 7 of the high protein liquid diet. Our options for each day were Greek yogurt all day, carnation light start all day, milk all day or a high protein shake/juice during the day. I don’t like greek yogurt or protein shakes and the carnation drinks make me nauseous, so milk it was. Luckily I like 1% milk. Added in some jello, Broth and a small popsicle each day. Also had my iced tea with Splenda and stevia. I’ll admit, I cheated a little bit by having a small amount of peanut butter on some of the days.
I’m definitely ready for real food again. I saved some meals that can be put in a blender for weeks 2 & 3 pre-op. Living in a house with 6 other people who can eat normally has been hard but I’m trying not to be grumpy. They’ve been good though. They aren’t giving me a hard time about not being at the dinner table. I’m glad I have that support. Do you also have support from your friends and family?

Touchy subject.... stinky poo and gas :(
Coexister replied to Pattianne's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I’m glad someone has addressed this issue as I am 3 weeks post op RNY revision and having the worst smelling poo and farts of my life. The smell drifts through out the whole house and is quite embarrassing! Poopori and sprays don’t cover it. This with a liquid diet and now moving into soft purée only foods. Could it be intolerance to the bariatric protein powder I am using? But then it wouldn’t make sense as I didn’t have this problem during pre-op diet and drinking this powder with no fat milk. Gosh, I pray it’s something that passes but now that I read comments I see others suffering 5 & 6 months post op. Going to try digestive enzymes if I can find chewables? I already take probiotics and eat yogurt. Anybody out there with any other ideas? Please help! -
How much are you eating a year out?
kristieshannon replied to Lilypop's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m 14 months out and closing in on goal, so am still in weight loss mode. Here’s a typical day: 6am: Premier protein shake mixed with cold brew coffee 9am: Ooikos triple zero yogurt Noon: Frozen meal (I have 4 or 5 I rotate through, only can eat about 2/3 of a meal) 3pm: 1oz roasted pumpkin seeds 6pm: 3oz meat, 1/3 c veggies, sometimes a sm serving (1/4 cup-ish) whatever starch the family is having 8pm 2 cups popcorn I’m usually around 1100 calories or so, waking 15,000 steps/day and going to a kickboxing class 3x/week Although I’m still focused on losing about 9 more pounds I’m just a touch worried about moving in to maintenance and upping calories. I’m fortunate that my restriction is still in full force. I think I’ll have to up the cal content of my snacks and my meals completely fill me up already. -
How much are you eating a year out?
Jaelzion replied to Lilypop's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Pretty much everything I eat is either naturally high in protein (like the meat, eggs, yogurt and cheese) or fortified with protein (the coffee and the pudding). Even the almonds have 6 grams of protein. Notice there are no veggies or fruit really - that's because I don't have the capacity to eat things without significant protein and still hit my goal of at least 60 and preferably 75g per day. Over time, hopefully I'll be able to eat more and I can add fruit/veggies back in to some extent. -
How much are you eating a year out?
Arabesque replied to Lilypop's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think I’m one of the unusual ones as I eat a lot now & eat all day but my metabolism is seriously working over time. Some days I have to make myself eat cause I’m just not hungry so I try to be very routine in what & when I eat. I can lose 500g if I miss a meal or snack over two days. It took me a few months slowly adding food until I where I am now. My doctors have been wanting me to put on a couple of kgs since January but I haven’t been able to. I’ve actually lost about another 4.5kg in that time. (Told to eat more again by doctor last week - don’t know how I can physically do so.) And I don’t exercise - can’t afford to burn the calories. 8:30 - 1 sachet rolled oats + about 200ml lactose free milk + 15 blueberries (10g protein) 11:30 - 300ml green tea + 6 vita weat multigrain crackers with liverwurst (eat over 60-90 mins) (5g protein) 1:30 - string cheese (5g protein) 3pm - 2 cups salad - combination of lettuce, cucumber, pickled onion, 50g chicken or 100g prawns + dressing (eat over an hour) (10-15g protein) 5pm - 160g tub yo pro yogurt 15g protein) 6:30 - about 80g meat (beef, lamb, pork, seafood) & half cup vegetables (mix of beans, sugar snap peas, asparagus, broccolini or cauliflower). (15g protein) 8pm - fruit (rockmelon, grapes, red paw paw) or 1/3 cup chia pudding (made on milk, milk powder & vanilla extract) or protein bar (10g protein) Seems a crazy amount I know but one day my metabolism will slow again & I’ll have to drop the snacks. Hey Jaelzion how are you getting in that much protein with what you eat? I only get in about 60g. -
