    Crushed by today's weigh-in

Don't be discouraged.. just follow doctors plan and you will be fine.. we've all been through these moments of frustration and It eventually all works itself out.. I went through a 3 week stall and was miserable.. felt the same way you do now.. but overall down 60 pounds and feel great Paul12677
  2. I have been feeling awesome and recovering so quickly it's been a miracle. I had surgery on April 8th. I am already up to soft foods like chicken and fish with steamed veggies. Problem is I haven't lost any weight this week. That makes me upset. Is it common to stall when only 3 weeks out? I lost 10 pounds pre surgery and am only down 14 since surgery. And words of wisdom?

    Relief

I had my sleeve on 6 February and for the last 10 days I have been in a stall. No weight loss and no inches lost. I had read all about the 3 week stall and thought I was prepared for it. No such thing. Of course you start to think "ok, I guess I am the rare failure". We'll this morning I broke down and I have lost 4 lbs. I am now 200 lbs even. I haven't weighed this little in about 15 years. So excited. I am going to treat myself by going for a walk on the beach.

    So it's effing four months....

So today it's been 4 months since my surgery. I had calculated through a couple of formulas that I would be down exactly 50 pounds by 3/20. (I'm analytical like that) I missed it by 2 pounds..damn. First I had about a 3 week stall, since then I've lost exactly 1 pound a week. For the last 30 day's I've lost exactly 5 lbs. That's pretty depressing. I could have done that or better with out the sleeve. I've eaten right getting plenty of protein, logged on MFP, done the cardio, kept the carbs low, drank the water till I am about to float away. Still only 1 lousy pound a week. I only have a couple of months left before the weight loss starts to get tougher. I wanted to be at goal weight by August (my 55 birthday), because i am going hiking in Alaska and do not want to be a fat ass doing that. Now, don't know if I can get the 53 pounds off by then. Very discouraged about that. So today, I had to go buy some clothes because a while back I ditched all my "skinnier" clothes thinking that I would never get under 260 pounds. Since surgery, I've basically worn track pants that have a drawstring. I have a job opportunity and needed a pair of slacks and dress shirt. For the inital interview, I wore a suit that was at least 15 years old, that somehow didn't get donated to the smiling g. At the store, I picked out a pair of pants that I thought should fit and tried them on. The were too snug , so I had to get a size that I've worn for a long time. I was soooooo bummed. Granted it is 3 sizes smaller than I was at surgery, but I really was expecting to be down one more size. So I am beginning to waver about the sleeve. I read about all these people that have lost 60-70-80 pounds at 4 months. It is depressing. I am glad for them, but for the life of me I can't figure out what I am missing. Not a great way to celebrate an anniversary.

Ladies: How much loss 1st week?

I lost 6lbs on my 1st week postop. Start Weight-289lbs Surgery Day Weight=281lbs Current Weight 3.5 weeks postop-267lbs Total Loss-22lbs I had a 12 day stall, the infamous 3 week stall got to me but lasted less than expected. Hope this helps, to give you a small idea. Good Luck on your journey!
  8. Just wondering who else is with me? I am just under 8 weeks post op and have lost 40lbs. Had a 3 week stall. Just seem to be losing very slowly. I figured out I was snacking too much so got that problem solved. Started going to the gym and that helped break my stall. I get in my Protein and liquids. Sometimes I struggle with liquid but usually I do ok. I get frustrated with the slow weight loss. I feel others expect more. I expect more. I always struggled to lose weight my whole life and so now that I lose slowly it is difficult on me. Emotionally I struggle making sure I am doing the right things but it's difficult. Anyone in the same boat? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk
  9. After my revision surgery, Dr. Elmo (assistant to Dr. Rod, my mexican band doctor and revision doctor) spoke to me about the bad habits acquired with the lap band. I am still on mushies at this point (3 weeks) and I really haven't had a strong desire to go back to the bad habits. I have tried some ice cream (last night) from Sonic as I was dying for something sweet. Well, I had just a little bit of a sundae and that was it. I could not tolerate anymore. It was enough to satisfy a craving but it seems that body does not really want too much of a rich thing. I'm happy to report that as of today, my weightloss has been about 17.5 lbs. since my surgery 3 weeks ago today. I went this past week without losing anything and after reading a post on here about the 3 week stall, I relaxed a bit, and today .5 was gone! I may need to add a Protein shake every day or something as I really don't think I'm eating enough but I'm not that hungry. I'm satsified with very little. This a.m. had some cottage cheese and a bit of protein Jello mixed with it. Been trying to walk daily and be more active. I think we are all different and must look at the sleeve as a new start. I am so happy that I will not have trouble with chicken or vegetables anymore like Amazon 13 posted. I got frustrated with my band (even empty I had restriction depending on weather, tom, time of year, stress) and was tired of throwing up. So, I would eat a lot of ice cream, shakes and just plain JUNK. I had to really do some soul searching as in a few months I had gained 25 lbs. due to eating out of depression, etc. I am seeking out a good counselor and ready to get to my goal in the next year. The band failed me, but I also failed the band in some ways, too. I paid out of pocket, traveled back to Mexico to have the band out and do the sleeve. Failure is NOT an option. But, it will be my choices that lead to success!

    Need encouragement during stall

Stalls are part of the process. The only reason you would want to consult your doctor is if you have one that lasts 4 weeks. 2 week-3 weeks stalls are not uncommon after gastric bypass. I have had 2 stalls: one lasted about 3 weeks. The other lasted for about 2 weeks. Follow the eating plan carefully, perhaps up your protein intake, drink more water if possible, exercise more if you can.
  11. I hit the 3 week stall at about two weeks out. .. I figure with pre op that's 3weeks. It lasted about a week and a half where I eent up and down about a pound. Then it just started falling off again. The body just needs to catch up. Stay on track, your doing great!
  12. Was sleeved 10/23 and lost 29 lbs during the first 2 weeks. Started pureed right after my 2 week mark. I Weighed myself this morning and was only down 2 lbs this week. What the heck? Has to be some sort of stall because I weigh 379 and would think I would lose more than that!
  13. Juzme, I think you've hit a stall. I drink decaf tea with splenda daily and I've had no problems with it. I did have the dreaded 3 week stall. It lasted 2 weeks, then I had a big drop, so I don't think Splenda affects me. Try changing things up and see if something jump starts the weight loss. Losing splenda is as good a thing to mix up as anything else.

    3 week stall

April 8th will be 3 weeks post op for me. Since last week I've hit a stall and I'm not losing weight. I've lost a total of 28 pounds since surgery but I'm discouraged that it's stopped. I know stalls are going to happen but I worry that it's my fault. I'm eating approx 650 calories a day. Trying to get all my protein in but not sure I always do. I guess I'm just looking for someone who had this experience and what I can do to help start the weight loss again.

    Stalled since week 2!

Perfectly normal. Search 3 week stall. Also it may be best to step away from the scale for a few weeks. Your body is adjusting to a lot of changes at once. Until it figures out you are dying, it's not going to five up the fat. Stay the course and follow your program.

My Life At 2 Years Out

The honeymoon phase is the first 3 to 6 months after surgery where people by and large experience the fastest part of their weight loss. The first month tends to be fairly good weight loss and then there is the transition from liquids to mushies (most have the 3 week stall when they transition to food because your body is adjusting to the change), but the it usually picks back up because at that point you should be able to incorporate some form of exercise into your routine to help facilitate your weight loss. But basically, its' the first 3 to 6 months after surgery. I hope that helps.
  17. @@kndoster - My 3 week stall started at 2 weeks and lasted 2 weeks! I'm a month out and the first 16 days I lost 16 pounds. EXCITED!!! Then the stall. I've started loosing again and I'm now at 20 lbs. I'm trying not to get discouraged, but it's hard sometimes. I understand EXACTLY what you're talking about, but it is normal! Good luck to you!!!

    No More Weightloss?

i agree with Lissa. i had the infamous 3 weeks stall, too. i tend to lose great for 2 weeks then stall for a week. our bodies have to adjust and it takes time. you've had great weight loss so far! hang in there and stay strong!
  19. Oh, sweetie, hang in there!! We've ALL been there, one way or another. Your body is freaking out because of the new reality it finds itself in. You know for a fact that nothing you're doing is causing weight gain--your body is probably retaining fluids, and those will flush out eventually, too. Just keep doing what you can do and stay hydrated. I know when you're eating so little, you feel like the weight should just be dropping off visibly--and there will probably be weeks when it does! Just keep doing what you're doing. Sounds like your 3-week stall just happened a little bit later than some.

I Want My Stomach Back For A Day!

I COMPLETELY get you! I had the same feelings, too. I still do on rare occasions. It is maddening to feel like you've spent so much money and invested so much energy and had your stomach REMOVED from your body and now all you want is to feel "normal" and be able to do the things that you used to do. And there isn't a normal any more, and you can't do them. I think a lot of us go through this at some point--and it doesn't help that you are actually right around the time of the infamous 3-week stall (just do a forum search and you'll see what I'm talking about). Your body is flipping OUT right about now, getting ready to ditch a BUNCH of weight, but all that fat burning is also releasing all kinds of hormones, which, on top of the frustration of having to relearn how to eat, makes for some craziness. It's temporary, I promise. Just hang in there. What got me past the anger was the realization that yeah, if I was feeling so frustrated at not being able to eat a normal portion, I NEEDED my sleeve to control things for me. I NEEDED that permanent fix. It wasn't something I was ever going to be able to control on my own. I was really mad at myself for having to go through with a surgical fix for my weight issue. Once I realized it was a "done deal," though, I realized I had no other choice but to learn how to manage it, move past the feelings of frustration and anger, and get on with making my "new normal." If you really liked the "old normal," you wouldn't have had the surgery, right? I made a list and contributed to a post or two on this forum regarding reasons I had the sleeve, aka things I was looking forward to. I can truthfully say that I have had all of them--all of them--come true!!! Maybe posting your own list of things you're looking forward to would help you re-focus off the current problems and onto the reasons you did the surgery? Meanwhile, hugs and hang in there. You're at one of the most difficult points in the process--that stupid stall makes people think they went through all the pain and expense for nothing, when it's actually just your body getting used to everything.

Weight loss stall of 10 days

Embrace the stall.. I just broke a 3 week stall this morning. Did absolutely nothing different. It will pass.
  22. I hit the 3 week stall and was on a 2 week stall and finally lost 4 lbs in the last two days. It is normal!

No weight loss since starting on full liquids!

i agree it sounds like the dreaded 3 week stall you will be fine just let your body catch up to your weight loss
  24. My "3 week stall" actually occurred at week 5. It was 13 days long. My weight loss pattern between month 1 and month six was basically lose for 2 weeks, stall for 2 weeks, repeat. It was frustrating at first, but got used to it after a while. Let me start with a little personal history. A lot of my weight dropped month 1 and 2, with mostly walking. Month 3-5 dropped about 1/2 rate with mostly ellyptical. Month 5-7 dropped a little faster with mostly running. Now trying to improve fitness and gain back some lean muscle with cross fit, incline running and yoga as well as supplements. One suggestion to limit stalls is to eat more good carbs, lots of Protein (120+ and plenty of Water (100+ oz) during weight loss period. I did eat a lot of quality protein and drank a lot of water, but did not eat good carbs until recently and really leaned out in upper body, mostly due to hard running. There are some supplements I have learned about recently that might help preserve lean muscle such as BCAA (amino acids) and catalyst so your exercise does not eat all your lean muscle during loss.
