I am coming up on my 1 year (next month) post-op. I take a comprehensive blood test every 3 months. The vitamins I have been using is the PatchAid multivitamin with Iron (daily patch), and in the evening I take one Barimelt ADEK. I also have collagen in my coffee in the morning and take 1 or 2 Bariatric Advantage calcium chews a day. For my hair loss, I started viviscal awhile ago.

I take a bariatric-specific chewable multi-vitamin (I'm in Aus, so it would be a similar thing to what Bariatric Pal offers). Then I add a B12, Iron +C, Vitamin D, and my Hair Nails Skin + Collagen support supplement. The multi has the calcium I need, though I have a calcium supplement on hand anyway. My dietician is happy with all that, and my labs are great.

Check out Dr. Dietrich at Advent Health Bariatric. Incredible program, state of the art facilities and holistic approach to weight loss. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app -
I take pro care health multi with 45 mg iron. It’s a true once a day bariatric vitamin that was approved by my team. I also take an over the counter calcium citrate twice a day. I was taking the bariatric advantage chews though the last time I had labs so I can’t really speak about the brand of calcium yet. My labs have been great with the pro care health multi though.

I'm a patient of Dr. Ashley Mooney at TGH Bariatrics. She's amazing! She removed my Lap Band last year and will be doing my revision to RNY in nine days. -
Just starting this journey after 66 years of being a yo-yo. I intend to get either the bypas or the sleeve (still educating myself). I have scheduled orientations at the two Bariatric Centers that I am interested in. I am wondering if anyone has had their surgery performed at either and if so, opinions. 1. TGH -USF Health Bariatric Center 2. Advent Health Bariatric Care Tampa? Thanks!

What non chewable vitamins are you taking daily?
ShoppGirl replied to OMoore85's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
This is a little older so not sure the OP needs the info but I’m sure someone does. I take the pro care health multi with 45 mg of iron. It is a true one a day capsule that is reasonably priced for a bariatric vitamin. -
Vomiting after taking multi vitamin chewable tablet - 10th day post
ShoppGirl replied to Supafly82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most likely your nutritionist will recommend you get in the habit of eating breakfast so that won’t be an issue anymore but if you choose not to or can’t for whatever reason. You most likely will be able to tolerate a multi without iron on an empty stomach. For MOST people it’s the iron that causes an issue. Pro care health is a bariatric vitamin that sells their one a day multi capsule with and without iron and with two different mg of iron. You will of course want to take the iron in a separate tablet at another time in the day with food. Nothing says you have to take your vitamin in the morning though. You can take it with dinner if that’s easier for you. Or lunch. Just don’t forget that if you take calcium as well it should be separated from the iron by like 2 hours. -
There really should be like a National clothing and shake swap for bariatric patients. Lol

I'm sorry to read about what your husband and you, as his caregiver and health advocate are going through. I have no advice about the issues he's going through, but it sounds like you need a second opinion. I would head to an ER of a teaching hospital, one that hopefully has a bariatric program. My bariatric surgeon is a professor and operates at a teaching hospital. And she sees patients who haven't been helped by "regular" bariatric surgeons. If you were to take him to an ER that is a part of a teaching hospital with a local university, they will likely admit him and call in their bariatric/neuro teams and whatever other specialists that they deem necessary. It's worth a try. Keep us updated on his progress. I Googled and https://www.umc.edu/ has a bariatric program. Not sure how far away you are from Jackson tho. I wish you and him the best! -
Vomiting after taking multi vitamin chewable tablet - 10th day post
Supafly82 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I started taking soft foods (scrambled eggs, tilapia and ground beef)…I have been holding it all well along with medication pills. Today I started the multivitamin chewable tablet and I threw up right after 5 minutes of taking. It was a big chewable tablet (Bariatric ultra vitamin solo) and I chewed properly but it all came out. Any guidance here on what should I do? Maybe I should start taking the capsules of multi vitamin because I have been taking other capsules (Tylenol, Antio biotics) just well. I take the BariatricPal multivitamin with 18mg of iron, a D3 supplement, a calcium supplement, and a biotin supplement. And I also bought a year's worth of the multivitamin. They're great. I really like them. https://store.bariatricpal.com/products/bariatricpal-multivitamin-one-day-bariatric-capsule-18mg-iron?variant=32469011169357 -
Looking for answers Nerve Damage / 1yr & 3months post op Rue & Y Gastric Bypass
KellyDVess posted a topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Hey Y’all! I am so worried about my husband! He had Rue & Y Gastric Bypass April 6th 2021 so he’s 1 year and 3 months post op and it’s been a NIGHTMARE!!! He has literally lost 200 pounds. He has always been a 220 pound man. He was diagnosed with COPD in 2017 and he was given massive amounts of steroids for all his lung trouble, which caused him to gain weight. At his heaviest he weighed 394lbs. He now weighs about 190lbs. We are both extremely proud of his Weightloss but y’all he literally CANNOT EAT ANYTHING! He THROWS EVERYTHING UP, even liquids. He constantly has abdominal pain. His Surgeon, his GI Doctor, and his GP family doctor are all stumped and none can figure out why. We found out the day of his Gastric Bypass that his stomach had twisted and flopped upwards and they thought that this was the reason for the abdominal pain and vomiting he was having before the surgery, but he’s still having severe pain and problems. Technically he didn’t have the surgery for Weightloss, he had the surgery because he was told by 2 different bariatric doctors that this was the answer to fixing his pain and nausea but they didn’t even know what the problem was and they still don’t. His Surgeon now believes that he could have a nerve problem or nerve damage and believes that is what is causing his pain and nausea. Have any of you had nerve damage that has caused you abdominal Pain, Nausea, and vomiting after your surgeries? If so, What was done for you and has it helped? Also, have any of you tried otc nausea patches from this website or any other and if so, do they work? He takes prescription nausea medicine but they do not work! I am very scared and very worried for him. He is 47 years old, his lung issues are under control but I fear for him nutritionally. He takes his supplements and he is getting IV FLUIDS (Banana Bag) every Friday but all this is really taking a toll on him physically and mentally. He is having another EGD scope to look in his stomach at the end of this month but they have done all this already and they never find anything. He does everything he’s supposed to do from having this surgery but he’s not getting any relief or any answers.. -
Hi Bariatric fam...my date changed to 7/27! They had me down for the sleeve but I switched to the full bypass! Where are my sister/brother buddies!!

There are a ton of great bariatric cookbooks out there that can easily be doubled for a family. I would say get a few and start introducing new/healthier meals now. No need to make super drastic changes, simple swaps add up over time (low fat cheese, lower carb options, more veggies, etc.). I also did Dinnerly for a while - its one of those meal prep services but it was the cheapest I could find and had lots of family friendly options. I would look for ones that were aligned to my goals and fit my needs but would still feed my family without complaint. My kids are older, and my husband is very easy going, so it wasn't terribly hard for us to make some changes. But honestly, even if it had been, I would have simply sat them down and explained that this is for my HEALTH and my LIFE. We are doing this as a family or they can eat cereal. I'll cook what I cook and they can eat it or not. Again, maybe not an option for every family, but in the end, they will need to suck it up and support you.

Metabolic syndrome
LookingForward22 replied to imaginegirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My endocrinologist actually recommended bariatric surgery in part because of my metabolic syndrome. He said he had many patients have success with surgery in reversing those health issues and getting off those medications. It’s one of several reasons I’m going through the process now. -

So I originally had the sleeve in 2018 with a doctor by the name of Dr Steiner in a town about an hour from home. I did well for about 3 years, went from 305lb to 212lb. Not that Im making excuses, but I work in healthcare and COVID took a huge toll on me and my health. I was working long hours and without breaks so I began snacking on anything and everything whenever I could. Of course Ive gained quite a but of weight back as I am now back at 250lb. A new bariatric office opened about 30 minutes from me and I decided to go see them to see what I needed to do about the weight regain, along with the severe GERD that I have developed. The doctor was nice but he just couldn't get anything approved with my insurance. He also did an EGD on me which showed that I had H pylori and he never treated me for it. After that I decided to go back to my original surgeon an hour away from home because they were always so nice and helpful. So Im back with the original doctor now that did my sleeve. He says I definitely need a conversion from sleeve to bypass to help with the GERD and weight regain. It was a no brainer to them. So my advice would be, dont be afraid of getting a second opinion. BUT 9/10 times the original surgeon will know more and do more for you than a new one. -
So things were really busy at work, and they brought in lunch. I made myself a bagel with vegetables and brought it back to my desk. I was totally not paying attention when I suddenly realized that restriction hit-- I looked down and saw that I HAD EATEN THE WHOLE BAGEL, leaving over literally two bites!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now yes, I know that I need to be more mindful, pay attention to what's going in. And yes, I was totally annoyed at myself for allowing that to happen. But I have a different, more pressing question! WHY WAS I ABLE TO TOLERATE THE ENTIRE FREAKIN BAGEL??????? Why didn't restriction hit way earlier??? Shouldn't my stomach have protested earlier????? I'd love to hear: Do you prepare the size portion you want to eat based on its size and then go no further? Let's say you aren't full? Do you take more, or try to train yourself to only eat that portion? Does everyone on this forum use the Bariatric Pal portion plates and bowls? I never bought them... and I guess that's why I can eat a bowl of Cheerios 😣 😣 😣 😣 I should be using an itty bitty bowl and telling myself that's all I need, right????? Ok friends. Go ahead. Hit me over the head and give me what I deserve. I think it's time for a thrashing to get me back in place.

Get a second opinion and a third and a twelfth if you need to. Sometimes we have to really be an advocate for ourselves and fight to get providers to listen and help. Sadly, healthcare is a broken system. You are absolutely NOT stepping on anyone toes. Remember, providers work for YOU. Talk to your PCP and see what they say. If they aren't supportive or can't help, find a different one or go to a different bariatric clinic. You do NOT have to settle for a provider who won't listen or is just throwing pills at you that aren't helping. -

Another option is to find a new local bariatric surgeon/specialist. Let them start from the beginning, go over everything and do their own testing. -

I worked with both my PCP and endocrinologist when looking into bariatrics. They were both onboard and worked together for my referral. I agree not to worry about looking like you are doctor shopping and think it’s important to understand why the other dr said no. If it’s something they don’t do - find one who does, if it’s a specific reason it could help when looking for a different practice who might be able to offer a different approach who has experience with whatever that issue is. I went through a different program at first… had my surgery date scheduled and canceled 2 weeks before my surgery because I wasn’t comfortable with the program. They didn’t seem to be listening to me, addressing my concerns - it seemed more like they were only worried about pushing me through their program and checking off the insurance boxes. I was worried about how my leaving that program to find another would look going into a new program - but i was open and honest with them explaining why I didn’t think the other program was a right fit and my situation … they were very supportive and reassuring at the new program every step of the way. Having my PCP and Endocrinologist work with me through this has been really helpful… they were both a sounding board for my concerns with my first program and helpful in getting the ball rolling when selecting a new program to work with. Good luck with everything and hope you feel better soon. Let us know how things are going. -
14 Years after my surgery and Malabsorption issues
ShoppGirl replied to sxirose79's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I’m assuming you were already taking bariatric formulations of your vitamins and those didn’t work. Yea the injections seems like a logical solution since they bypass the stomach alltogether. Hopefully your primary doctor can arrange for those. -

I agree a naturopath can be a big help. If you don’t have someone near you, can your PCP refer you to a digestive health specialist in your area? Or do you have a different Bariatric or non surgical weight-loss specialist in your area you can call to speak? (My program has the surgical and non surgical weight-loss specialists in the same office. Both are overseen by medical doctors, have nutritionists and nurses). Another option to look into is your health insurance. Some insurance plans offer wellness programs (at no cost) where you can virtually (or by phone) meet with nurses and dietitians that can review your concerns, offer guidance and help connect you with medical professionals in your area that work with your insurance. Sorry you are going through this… I hope you can find answers and feel better soon. -
Hey there. I am new here and not sure about posting but I feel like I am all alone. I had surgery 10 years ago, I didn’t ever lose that much weight with it and ended up getting sick and not being able to keep up with my running which I miss more than anything. Anyway, I am 20 lbs over the weight I was before my surgery. I am always so tired and I could sleep anywhere at anytime, although the test said I didn’t have sleep apnea. My BMI is a shameful 45. I wasn’t sure who to contact so I contacted my Bariatric Doctor’s office. I am unable to go to the one that originally did my surgery. I’ve been dealing with a NP (which I really adore) that told me no to a revision, but she’s put me on phentramine and they don’t even give me energy and I never had a problem with over eating I have a problem with forgetting to eat 🙄 All of my pills I have to take now makes me sick, I feel nauseous all of the time, zero energy. I have been checked for depression (of course vitamin levels) I take those even though they make me nauseous. This dr is 3 hours a way we’ve only been able to do telemed visits. I would like another opinion but I don’t want to step on anyone’s toes and get in trouble with dr shopping or have anyone mad. I wasn’t sure if people start out with their PCP or surgeon. sorry I rambled I’m nervous and so confused! Idk where in the world to go from here. Lol thanks for listening to me.

So today I learned something pretty interesting that I wanted to share. All of us have a high protein intake that we have to have post-op so I was sure the collagen that I've been adding to my water would count toward that protein intake level. I checked with my nutritionist and she said that collagen is fantastic to take for hair, skin, and nails but it is not a complete protein to count towards my total daily protein intake. So I got to researching and there is a product here on Bariatric Pal for liquid predigested protein. So I sent the link for my nutritionist to review and she came back that since this collagen has tryptophan in it that it completes the protein and can be applied to the daily count. So get this... 2 TBSP of this liquid protein equals 20 grams of protein! https://store.bariatricpal.com/products/pre-protein-20-liquid-predigested-protein-16oz-bottle-grape You can add this to your water easily. So in essence, if I'm struggling to get water down, I can also use this to ensure I'm getting the protein needed. So I'm kinda excited about this Has anyone else found any tips or tricks they are going to try?
