If you have a tightness in your chest, you may be a little irritated and swollen in there, but I highly doubt that you have 'ruined' anything. Just continue to have thin liquids until you are given permission to move on (and even if you have permission, if they still make you feel tight in the chest, give it more time). You should probably call your doctor and clarify on the yogurt though. Yogurt will go through a straw and is usually included in a 'full liquid' diet, which it sounds like is what you are supposed to be on now.

hello everyone, So Im starting my pre op diet very soon and I am a lil confused as to calorie and carb intake.... Is there a certain amount of calories and carbs we should be limiting ourselves to during the pre op diet?? I was told to do one week of : 3 Protein shakes A DAY ALL THE Water I CAN DRINK ALL THE YOGURT I CAN EAT ALL THE broth I CAN EAT ALL THE juice I CAN DRINK NO PULP AND I CAN HAVE sugar free Jello AS A TREAT. It sounds as if there is no limit to how much..... I purchased the Ensure clear and it has 180g cals and 35gcarbs, seems to be a lot....does this sound like something I should be drinking on a daily basis?? also the Ensure clear only has 9g protein which seems pretty low, is there a certain amount of protein I should be getting during the pre op?? Should I get the Ensure shakes they have 25g protein also should I be taking the little protein shots during the pre op?? Also what about the 3 day laxative I hear that people had to take should I do that even though I wasnt told to?? I see that each surgeon has different requirements but I just want to make sure I am taking the best route to lose as much as possible. Any ideas/adivce would be appreciated thanks so much 17 days to go yay!!

When did you start a soft diet? Post-op?
RickM replied to Quickly's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Mine started in the hospital with things like scrambled eggs and yogurt. As to what can be tolerated is a very individual thing, beyond whatever the surgeon wants you to try and when. I had no problems with anything that I tried and progressed fairly quickly, trying new things a little at a time, getting progressively thicker, chunkier and less soft. Others have a problem progressing very rapidly and that's OK - there's a wide variation between what we as individuals can tolerate and when. When my wife went through this a few years ago, she had more problems with various food tolerances, and that's just the way she is - the doc had no worries about either of us, but just somewhat different responses within normal experience. -
Anyone else only had to do a ONE WEEK pre-op diet?
Nataliesmom replied to SummerShadow's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine is 14 days of liquid diet, day before surgery clear liquids only and colon cleanse. I’m allowed shakes, yogurt, cream soups, jello pudding and as much calorie free or low calorie fluids as I want. -
I had my surgery in December (4 mos. ago) and I just had my fourth fill. I was getting very discouraged, since I also felt the band wasn't doing anything, and I wondered if it was really there After the fourth fill I found I was starting to feel satiated after eating a few bites of food, and I also had to slow down, eat slowly, and chew properly. A small Wake-Up wrap from Dunkin Donuts will give me a full feeling between lunch and dinner. It is a great feeling not to be hungry between meals! Right not I am doing around 70 grams of Protein a day, and keeping the calories under 1100. Lots of yogurt and chicken!

Feeling okay other then some tightness in the chest from hernia repair. Planning to return to work next week. Keep up the good work, it will be worth it!!

Lol. Yes I though the about that later like what was I thinking, but luckily it was ok. It was actually so refreshing to have something fresh like that, so used to yogurt, Beans, cottage cheese, tuna, eggs. It was a nice change. Sent from my KFSAWI using the BariatricPal App -
For those of us who believe in a Higher Power, God, Jesus Budah whomever, try this. Print this prayer on business cards and stick them here there and everywhere. In the car, in your wallet, in the bathroom or on the fridg. My good friend who was banded on 11/1/2005 gave it to me. Dear God, I surrender my body and my weight loss to your divine care and love. I ask that you remove all excess unnecessary weight from my body. Return mybody to it’s most healthy and balanced state. Give me eating habits that support my health and life energy, and finally, teach me to love my body and to care for it from this day forth. Amen I know it when I read it I stop... I might eat, I might eat better or sometimes I say "Drink some more water" LOL That and another tip Lynn gave me... eat with a baby spoon it slows ya down... now it's like a love affair with my yogurt... oooooo LOL any hoo just something I would Share! Good Luck to you all! Just Keep Swimming!!!

I am 5 months post-op and am struggling to get over 800 calories a day.. nutrirtionist told me I should be consuming 1100-1200 calories a day.. I can eat a 5oz yogurt in one sitting too but it takes me 25 min or so to eat it.. once I’m too full I get hiccups. I would just try to eat slower if I were you. There are times I feel like my stomach can hold more too but I definitely don’t over indulge like I used to!

My lunch bag is a sad place right now
Forsythia replied to JenWith's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My lunch bag is almost always a frozen meal, a Greek yogurt and some kind of fruit like an apple and beef Jerky or a Protein bar if I'm going to the gym. Seriously, it's the same thing every day. It's sad. But going out to lunch is an expensive waste. $10 on something from the corner bakery or potbelly that will just be thrown out because the portion is ginormous. Also, have a square of chocolate. Or get chocolate yogurt. -

I've been having a diet hot chocolate. 20 cal. 4g of sugar. I add a table spoon of whey protein to get a little protein in. But... I haven't gone back to work yet. I do Monday. A little worried bout the daily avalanche of goodies brought in by my peers. I will remind my self that nothing taste as good as healthy and slim. Also gerber baby food has these little yogurt melt snacks. They are low sugar and fat free. I might grab a bag of those and keep them handy in case I need a substitute. -

I am a hugely picky eater and have been having a really hard time with the ready to drink Protein shakes. I am in my full liquids stage and I am also having problems drinking as much as I should. My mom was experimenting with some fresh strawberries (I love fresh fruit!) and came up with this protein rich shake: 1/2 container strawberry yogurt (3g protein) 1 container strawberry Greek yogurt (12-15g protein depending on brand) 1/2 cup of milk (2-3g protein) 10 strawberries 1/2 bottle of vanilla Pure Protein shake (10g protien) 3-4 tablespoons of fresh squeezed orange juice Blend together. Add more milk or orange juice to make it thinner. Mine is pretty thick but as I'm on liquids only right now, it's also pretty filling. But finally something with a good amount of protein that doesn't make me gag! The Pure Protein Drink gives it the slightest hint of vanilla and I don't have the nasty protein taste!

I am eating roughly 1100 calories a day. Is this normal I feel as if I have stretched my stomach already. I Followed the diet, and started eating soft solids, but I feel that I can eat too much comfortably. I have not experienced any issues like most others. I don’t have to eat slowly as I am able to eat fast with no problems. i can eat a 5 oz yogurt in one setting in probably 5 minutes. I have lost 12 lbs in 3 weeks. I believe that i will be the exception. I’m terrified right now I think I am eating too much. anyone have this problem or am I the only 1?

Had my 4th fill-Wow! This is different!!
NJGirl32 replied to NJGirl32's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Today is much better! I can drink my coffee and plan to have my yogurt and blueberries mixed together (my fav. morning treat!). I really do think I am either in the green zone or at least very close! I am glad I went-even stepped on the scale today to see 2 more pounds gone! I really think the gym has helped with getting my sluggish metabolism going. After a long plateau things are finally starting to kick in! Melissa-I am going to New Orleans on Thursday for 2 nights and then sailing out to Mexico for 4 nights-I can't wait!! I would have preferred to have my fill last week but the doc was on vacation. Where are you cruising too? By Feb. you will be in excellent cruise shape!! Dave- These guys were so proud and they were actaually talkingto a young girl who was filling out a form for the Lapband. I personally don't think she will qualify because she didn't look like she had much to lose. It was really good to hear 2 guys with 100+ weight lost-and you too!! I have heard so many people say it was the best decision of their life-and I really feel like I am beginning to understand why! -
Okay so tomorrow I go get my first fill. I will be 4 wks post-op. For the last 10 days or so I have been watching my weight and food amounts. I do not have restriction of any kind so I am really trying to be good and follow the "rules" I recently joined myfitnesspal.com (love it) so I can better track my colorie and other intake. I find that I am getting sticking around 1000 cals a day. BUT for the last 14 days I have been going back and forth with the same stupid 1lb! Why would I not be dropping weight if I am eating less cals and doing more and more exercise! I don't think I am in starvation mode. How will getting a fill and eating even less make the weight come off if it is not coming off now? I have lost a total of 10lbs in my 4wks post op (all in the first two wks). Am I doing something wrong? I have cottage cheese, yogurt, applesuace, deli meats, eggs, cheese and Protein shakes. Should I increase calories? SO CONFUSED! Any thoughts appreciated.

I'm so sorry. Take the meds religiously. They tried to get mine to heal for 6 weeks before surgery was the plan. The constant contracting pain is the hardest part for me. And I struggle to eat anything and when it started at 2 month post op I was doing great. I got to where I could eat anything with no issues. I'm living of milk with protein powder and yogurt now :/ Good luck. Feel free to pm me! My bypass revision is scheduled for Monday 2/20.

Bitching and Moaning and Stomping my feet...Little bit of a Rant.
Ezma replied to ReadySteadyGo's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Oh Ready, I love you! You just eloquently said everything I've been feeling lately. I've been stuck at a plateau and even gained 2 pounds and needed a fill really bad but was too stupid to try to move it up. I haven't changed sizes at all. I fit into a couple of shirts that didn't really fit before but even they aren't much different. As far as pants go, I haven't had ones without elastic waists for years so these will be with me for a while. Part of me is glad because I won't have to go thru a bunch of clothes but I'd really, really love to be able to put on a smaller size. Oh, and don't wish for 5'5", that's what I am and it's still too short to really be able to see and feel a difference when I lose. Why do I want to kill everyone that is thin? It's so not fair that people can eat more than what I'm eating when I'm being bad and they lose like crazy. How can it possibly be fair that if I eat a whole 100 calorie yogurt for Breakfast, it's too much? I don't want to stay away from carbs. I love them too much but it seems to be the only way I can lose. I have about two hours left until my fill and can't wait. I really want to be back on track and I try so hard. I need that feeling back that I had when I was first banded. That feeling of "dang, it's time to eat again already?, I really am not hungry at all". Instead, now I have the "Give it to me! Jeez, I need those chips and then that ice cream". I feel like Audrey II in Little Shop - Feed me! I'm right here cheering you on Ready. We'll get through this without the blood loss of our peers. -
I am so frustrated!! I lost 11 pounds during the month before surgery-3 weeks liquids. Surgery was on June 27th. I went down 6 lbs by the end of that week. Woo Hoo!!!! I've NEVER lost that much in a week. Of course I ate next to nothing because anesthesia always depresses my appetite for a week afterwards. I did get every drop of Water in during that time. Okay why am I so frustrated? I went down 2 lbs one single day during the past two weeks, but those 2 lbs have played games with me since that day up 1, up 2, up 3...I never know. I have kept track of every bite that goes in my mouth. I'm on soft Proteins now, not allowed any carbs except veggies and dairy which is great for my diabetes. I am averaging between 600 and 800 calories per day, between 20 and 40 carbs, 70 - 120g Protein, and under 25 g fat. I'm exercising 30 -45 min daily; nothing too strenuous yet. I know what you're all thinking- that's not enough calories. Well I'm 54 and very motivated. I feel like this is my last chance and I'm just trying so hard. Forget the band...how could I gain 1-3 lbs during the past two weeks eating like this. I feel hunger pains several times a day and I gulp water to help them go away. I called my nutritionist today and she was very nice. She wants me to up my calories to 1000 and see if that helps. I'm not sure what to eat? If I could have cream of wheat, oatmeal, potatoes, or whole grain breads it would be easy. Thanks in advance to all of you out there who I know will give me some words of wisdom. On a very positive note - I've reduced my insulin by half!!! Wow-my health was my main and most important reason for having this surgery. And it is helping no doubt. I'll be thrilled when I get "optimization"(new term for restriction..lol) out of my band. Thanks for reading and feel free to ask any questions if you just don't get my point! Today's Food: Protein shake 186 cal. 3oz shaved turkey 100 cal. lt string cheese 50 cal. 4oz Tilapia 109 cal. 1c. green Beans 40 cal. 1/2 c peas 100 cal. 20oz Isopure Protein Clear Water 160 cal. Greek Yogurt 120 cal. 64 oz plain water Total 865 calories

At the seminar I attended, the doctor said one of his patients came in and complained about not losing any weight. She said her only indulgence was yogurt. It turned out she was eating TEN containers per day! So, while he said yogurt was okay when eaten in moderation, it slides down the banded opening, and is not something you want to get into a habit of snacking on. I don't know the right amount because I haven't gotten that far in the process, but it sounds like, in moderation, dairy is fine.

December 2013 Need some help
I'm losing it! replied to caitiegirly07's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello. I hope this might help you. I bought from Amazon (you can find in any drug store), a pill dispenser that is Sunday thru Saturday and has FOUR (4) spots for your daily pills. This allows me to seperate my Vitamins with Iron from my Calcium citrate etc. My boxes have Morning/Noon/Evening/Bed on them.....I normally take things around 9 am/1pm/5pm/8pm ish..........this dispenser is one big one that allows you to POP OUT that daily only and leave the rest at home...so, I have them on the go with me. I do my pills weekly along with my hubbys etc...it's easy, handy and I don't have to open up a zillion bottles each day, all day. For food ideas.....I am 6 weeks post op, gastric bypass. I have no issues with food. Doing a high Protein greek yogurt in am, lots of fish, shrimp, turkey and chicken. Plenty of cheese too. It's all about the protein first! I am doing 1/3 cup per mini-meal. I am doing three meals a day, getting in TONS of Water (all zero calorie) and getting in about 65-80 grams of protein per day. Sometimes, I only get in about 50 grams.......it's tricky, but it's working! I am 37.5 pounds down in exactly six weeks....and I am losing one pound a day right now, (for the past 7 days). I hit a 13 day stall and was so upset! I was eating too many calories. So, I am down to 800 cal's max per day and I am losing like crazy. Good luck to you!! -
I take 5,000 mg of Biotin per day. I get it at Trader Joe's (don't know if they have stores all over the country). It helps, but I'm not certain that it helps with the reason we lose hair with WLS. So far, at about 8 weeks out, I haven't noticed any hair loss. Like you, my hair is already very fine, and I don't have an abundance of it. I can't AFFORD to lose any!! So far, so good. But I DO get in all of my Protein, and I keep my calories to 1,000/day. I think not letting calories drop below this number helps a great deal. Donna - are you eating protein rich foods at every meal? Then, maybe some Greek yogurt for a snack? I also hate the Protein shakes, and now most days I'm able to get in a good 70-80 grams of protein with real food. One of my favorite lunches is 1/2 can of Kirkland tuna (from Costco), made with Hellman's lowfat mayo. The tuna is 24 grams of protein, and is GREAT with the low fat mayo; VERY satisfying. Greek yogurt is another 13 grams of protein (I eat some most every day), and adding in some sort of meat/chicken/fish for dinner, and eggs for Breakfast.....I'm there! If you're having a difficult time meeting your protein requirements from food alone, are you using up a lot of calories with low protein carbs? The good news (if there is any) about WLS related hair loss, is that it grows back (so I hear). I hope that I don't go through it. I have a hair appointment on Friday, and my hairdresser will tell me if she sees thinning.

Vegetarians(or Vegans!)
KCgirl061 replied to despacit0w0's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not a vegetarian but I do have some meatless ideas for you. I enjoy a lot of yogurt and cottage cheese. I find Oikos Triple Zero gives you the best high protein/high fiber/low sugar option. My favorite way to prepare cottage cheese is with toasted walnuts and a drizzle of honey. For meals I have a fiesta black bean quinoa salad that my husband and I just love. (I'll post a link for the recipe) I also like to make wraps with hummus and black beans, spinach leaves and red pepper slices. Egg salad would also be a good idea especially if you are still early in pureed/soft stages. So would lentil soup. https://www.crunchycreamysweet.com/roasted-sweet-potato-black-bean-quinoa-salad-recipe/ https://www.gimmesomeoven.com/lemony-lentil-soup/ -
Thanks for the advice. I usually do try to mix it up but I was just giving her a generic run down of what I was having yesterday! I do mix turkey instead of chicken and tuna. But, for me, just so that I do eat Breakfast, I stick with the yogurt or eggs. Nothing else stays down. So, that I don't skip, I change flavors of the yogurt and Protein. That's all the variety I can take right now. Any other suggestions for a breakfast that will stay down or that will go down? Bars are a no go. oatmeal made me vomit before banding, I can only imagine now. I do work and need it to be quick as I'm on the road by 6:30 am.
