  1. Those are great examples of NSVs! Congratulations and thanks for sharing!
  2. Bandista what wonderful NSVs!!!! Great job on enjoying your vacation and coming home with no extra baggage:-) That my friend is a huge feat!!!!
  3. Dec. 4th will mark two years since my VSG. It has been the BEST two years of my life!! I am soooo happy, so sociable, so [yes] sexy, and picking clothes to go here or there is a breeze!! No agonizing about what to wear, or 'will this fit', etc. The mental freedom, self confidence and self-esteem are all wonderful. I'm not hiding from folks--colleagues, friends, etc. I gladly take pictures, my eyes gleam and my smile is genuine. I have not reached my self-appointed goal of 165 (actually, I'm thinking my face will look too thin!!). But going from a size 22, to a size 10/12 is working for me. For fun, I took some 'modeling' photos recently, and (yes), somebody is truly looking great. I can say that now. Brief note for now from me, but if you were sleeved around the time I was--December 2013--do tell your status, update, your NSVs; and share pictures, if you choose. Congratulations, two years out. I know it's been a good thing.
  4. that is a definite multiple NSV weekend/Holiday !
  5. The bed, not the girl! We are just back from a four-day getaway and our beautifully-appointed hotel room had a Queen. Before weight loss? No way! For years it's had to be a King but no more. But now it was just fine. Oh, and I just hopped off the scale and did not gain a thing despite the fact that I ate deliciously-rich restaurant food (mostly French) -- those small portions really work. And I love it that now I can (and do) just stop. Now for some serious exercise (another NSV -- wanting to do it!).

    Very discourged

@@Munecagirl85 - stalls. Get used to them, stalls, they happen:/ There is no set time-line, number of pounds lost, etc for when a stall occurs. Measure yourself, try on clothing that was snug - those are both NSVs (non scale victories). Stay the course! Get rid of your scale for now. weigh once a month or every week.
  7. Kindle

    When are the "typical" stalls?

Stalls happen anytime, anyplace and last for any length of time. Other than the infamous 3 week stall I don't think there is a pattern. And, BTW, a loss of 1.4 pounds is not a stall. The fact that you are measuring tenths of a pound suggests to me up you are too obsessed with the numbers. Relax, enjoy the journey, count your NSV's, explore some new recipe ideas and stay off scale for awhile. I guarantee you will keep losing if you are eating on plan.
  8. Stop comparing yourself. Years ago my aunt had the surgery and she gained every single oz back PLUS. I never told anyone about my surgery except my husband because a) while scared he supported me and I knew I'd hear from others, " your aunt had that surgery and look at her now!" This is where a little tunnel vision comes in handy. I learned to stay in my lane and eff anyone and everyone who has unsolicited advise or opinions. I also almost never compare or obsess over the failures of others. You shouldn't either as you are doing this for yourself before all others. Keep track of where you are now compared to the past and look forward to meeting more goals...especially non-scale victories. NSVs are so very important. Best wishes to you!

    I'm 102 pounds down

@@Briardlady you said "That is my real victory, being able to do what needs to be done". keep a record of all your NSV's/dates (do as i say, not as i do) it's interesting./fun to see what you have accomplished pre and post op 102 lbs lost!!! party dance, party dance you are aces!!! keep up the good work kathy congrats
  10. Some of my NSVs are: Walking into work without getting short of breath. I went to a restaurant and could fit in the booth without squeezing in. I can bend over and tie my shoes instead of bringing my leg up onto the bed or sofa to reach my laces. I can actually bring my leg up and cross it on the other one.
  11. I texted a picture of me skeetshooting to my sister and her family. My niece said I should send a picture of me. I said that is me. They didn't even recognize me. That was the best NSV.
  12. This is an oldie-but-goldie thread. Really worth reading for inspiration. My recent non-scale victories (NSVs) include mostly clothing victories. I now wear (mostly): * Size 4s in jeans and slacks. It's just freaky! * Size smalls in jackets, coats and other random pieces Occasionally, the size that fits me best is Petite Small or even a size 2. I cannot fathom how that works, since I'm 5'5" and weigh 138 pounds. Boy, bodies are weird. But I'm a big fat sucker for single digit sizes.

    Shopping

I am sorry you feel like that. I am still considered fat but I am able to wear clothes off the rack so that is a NSV

    OCTOBER 2014

Yesterday, I had a NSD (NSV = non-scale victory NSD = non-scale disaster) When you loose weight, a problem I never had before surgery, your pants get too loose like ALL THE TIME. Honestly doesn't that sound like the worst rant ever. Well, guess what? My car keys fell out of my pants' pocket while flushing the toilet. They are now halfway to the big blue ocean. I, off course, was one and half hours away from home. OMG, how unlucky could I be. Hope everyone is doing well in their loose pants. At this time of year, I can't help but feel THANKFUL for all that I was able to achieve this past year. So very grateful for this surgery, my pals at Bariatric Pal and a fighting chance at leading a normal life without the burden of obesity and all it's devastating illnesses. This Thanksgiving day, I will get on my knees because I am so very grateful for all that I have. Love you all "HAPPY TURKEY DAY."
  15. That post from @@tink401 reminded me of something that recently happened. I have a tee shirt that I saved for more years than I care to recall. It was given to me by my then boyfriend and future husband. I was 16 at the time I first wore it, and pretty petite at that age. I came across the shirt cleaning out my dresser drawers in preparation for new bedroom furniture and thought I'd give it a shot. Don't you know that shirt slipped on like it did 40 years ago? How's that for a mind blowing NSV?
  16. Have you ever picked out a piece of clothing or whole outfit that was not your size, but you liked it so much you bought it for when you can finally wear it? I found this ordinary shirt at Dicks Sporting Goods while shopping for a few things. I was going from a 5xl to a 4xl and looking for Under Armor stuff for working out. I ended up not finding anything online, but while in their store, I found a 2XL Reebok 2 snap henley that, for whatever reason, just struck me as a great looking shirt. So I did what anybody would do when they find a shirt they love but don't make in their size. I bought it. It's still folded with its tags on in my dresser, waiting for the day I fit it. so, have you done something similar?

  18. @@Essence46 nice to see you again my friend i've missed you - really!!! Protein is essential drinking the shakes is good you should/need to eat foods that have protein (i know you can) (ie chicken, tuna fish) you know the drill Pllllease drink more Water it amazing (to me) the benefits of water start today and keep track of ALL your food (ie MFP) everything you put in your mouth!!! at any time!!! put in computer be honest with yourself put everything down in ie MFP usually when you see/realize how much you eat you might say "OMG i ate all thattttt"?? anything i tell you, and others say you already know you need to follow i know you can do it i always have had confidence in you you can't change yesterday today is a new day fresh start immediately (not tomorrow) you said earlier you are "trying not to be discouraged" do or do not - there is no try!!!! (Yoda) kudos on seeing your doc sometimes when people are having problems haven't been doing so well, even gained they don't want to "face" their doc/or NUT good for you that you are addressing the problem right on "knowing you have a problem, is 1/2 the battle" (something like that) good for you being "brave" and coming back to BP my name is kathy - and i am addicted to BP!! you'll be reminded of what/how certain things can/need to be done get encouragement from others see other success stories, or problems your NSV for the day is coming back to the board!!! I know you can be the success you were meant to be pretend you are playing baseball KNOCK IT OUT OF THE PARK!!! hugggggs kathy
  19. Fiesty, I am glad you were able to find something that will dissolve. The calcium I bought was the wrong kind, a large tablet instead of the chewable. It is on the return list. I did not take meds well before surgery either, and I need to find one I will be consistent with. So far everything else goes down and stays pretty well. NSV...all stitches removed, and on to butterfly bandages. Well only two anyway. The remaining to incisions seem to be closed pretty well, I just want to be sure I don't sneeze anything loose. So ladies, Thanksgiving marks a special day for us, well pending doctor approval. It is Day 1 of puree/soft or more affectionately called "phase II". As I preparing my list for what I will be making for my family, I decided I should probably decide what I will be slurping that day. So far I have come up with turkey salad aka I will pureed some turkey with egg, broth, and light mayo.

Sometimes its the unexpected things that get you

Yes, sometimes it is the more subtle changes that are most eye-opening. This NSV is the figurative and literal measure of how far you've come. L'chaim.

    5 day pouch test

NSV is non scale victory! And the pouch test is what some people try if they are in a stall or to get back on track. You go back to all liquids and move on quickly from there.
  22. While reading some of the posts I have read that people have tried the five day pouch test. What are they talking about? Also what is NSV, I think those were the abbreviations, the topic would be about NSV on such and such date.
  23. Joz31, Congrats on your success so far! And wow, that’s definitely a huge NSV! I understand your hesitation, especially since you’ve been so private before. You are not obligated to be a publicity promotion for your surgeon, no matter how grateful you are. I’m just pointing that out to make sure that whatever decision you make, you make for yourself and not for someone else’s benefit. If, as you said, you’re afraid you won’t look at good as you think you do, that’s a legitimate fear. Chances are, though, that you’ll look even better than you think you do! But if you’re afraid, maybe you could tell your surgeon you’ll be happy to participate in a few months, when you’re at goal weight and have been there for a little while. I think the idea of blurring your face is a great one. Maybe when you gain a little more confidence in a while you can even un-blur your face!
  24. WLSResources/ClothingExch

I'd no longer qualify for WLS!

You're the first person I've come across anywhere to notice this NSV. Nifty. Or is it an SV? Who cares? We take nifty wherever we find it. Keep going.
  25. Congratulations I too believe in celebrating small goals. I had my weight loss surgery in 2007 and have "yet" to make it to goal. I would of given up long ago if I did not Celebrate NSV's or short time goals. You would be surprised how many WLS patients think they are failures because they do not reach their weight loss goal. I on the other hand am extremely grateful every day for having my active life back.
