Hi, fellow November buddies! Wanted a bit of a snack today, and needed more protein. I scooped up a bowl of vanilla Two Good yogurt (I can't do the other SF yogurts for some reason, but probably any vanilla one would work), added a scoop of unflavored protein, and then a tiny squirt of orange tangerine Mio. Was like a melted creamsicle. Really yummy! Just in case anyone needs something different ☺️

Queenhkb posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Greetings everyone, I hope that all is well for everyone reading this. Whatever is not going the best, prayers for improved circumstances soon. Question: I had gastric sleeve revision to by pass, gall bladder removal and hiatal hernia repair. I had severe GERD and that hernia made me sick not to mention the gallbladder attacks. I had inflammation from my esophagus to my intestines. Like inflammatory bowel. I was taking prednisone, bentyl, prilosec, amitiza. Lord it was rough. I had the revision 9/9/2020 and it was rough. All the surgeries at once was a blessing. I didn't want to keep going back and forth. I'm able to eat small meals and have less naseau. I eat salmon a small piece, g reek yogurt, spinach, plant based bacon, peanut butter, , protein shakes. It's been a big adjustment. I'm having difficulty Remembering things and tingling hands, constipation and mood swings. Tired. The doctor said constipation is normal take milk of magnesium, moods and hormones have to adjust. Takes time to build stamina back up. Tingling hands and lethargy could be malabsorption of nutrients and vitamins. However, they said problems remembering things at 90 days out has not been common. Anyone have this issue? I had an appointment today, took lab work and scheduled a consultation with neurologist. I supervise first responders. Being back at work has been challenging with the post operative issues. Anyone experience this? -
Hope you feel better as the day goes on! To this day, 9 months out, I don’t do well with meat. I can eat maybe 2-3oz slowly, chewing it very well, yet it still doesn’t set well with me afterward and not worth it. Chicken, beef, pork, none of it. Same with nuts. A few cashews, walnuts, etc. and it feels as though it comes up on me. My body just says, “I don’t want it.” I haven’t tried rice, but noodles feel as though they glop up sticky/stuck and come up the esophagus. Fish, a few shrimp, eggs, greek yogurt, lower fat cheese, oatmeal, lentil soup and veggies and my tummy is a happy camper. Last few months have been venturing out more to see what digests easily for me. Repeated episodes on foods mentioned above tell me it’s just the way it is now, not a one off, and that’s okay! Good luck! It’s definitely a learning journey.💝

I didn't eat noodles for the first two years after surgery and still can't eat very many of them or I have a similar reaction. I can't handle much rice at one time, either (not sure about rice noodles, though - I haven't had those since surgery). I think you're pushing your stomach too much. i was eating pretty "gentle" foods - like Greek yogurt - when I was where you are. I remember eating shrimp early on - but not sure at what point. I haven't eaten ground beef in probably 20 years, but I know I had issues with certain meats the first few months. I think most people can handle the ground variety, though. I'd just go way easier on your stomach...it takes awhile before you can eat a variety of food without issue.

I am 10 months out and find I need to have quick, easy high protein meals about. I like to cook, so I will do more involved stuff on the week-ends, but here are a few go-to items for me: 1. Frozen Turkey Meatballs (with a red sauce, with canned beef gravy, with mozzarella on a bed of lettuce) 2. Bag of frozen shrimp (shrimp salad for lunch with a bag of kibo high protein chips, on a salad, with cocktail sauce as a snack, with turkey sausage, cauliflower rice and cajun spice for "jambalaya"). 3. Make ahead ground turkey with LOTs of taco seasoning...night I make it we have tacos for dinner (I have the kibo chips, family has taco shells) then for a couple of lunches I have shredded lettuce, corn and taco meat 4. Turkey sausage chili with red beans and TONS of veggies and extra chili seasoning; great for these winter evenings, and I have it for lunches all week; I use Sargento 4 cheese Mexican shredded cheese with this 5. Beef barley soup; I make it on the week-end and have it all week. Delicious and filling. 6. I keep kirkland Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough protein bars on hand for when I'm craving sweet 7. Siggi Yogurt -- I love the kind with Almond Butter as an add-in; they can be hard to find so I'll have Vanilla Siggi and add 1 to 2 tablespoons of Almond or Sunflower butter. Delicious and high in protein. -
Nov 2020 Bypass Peeps?

Post-op Mine is 2 days clear liquid, 2 weeks puréed and now solid “soft” for 4 weeks. The 1st thing I made was a low-fat turkey stroganoff that my family could eat too. It was amazing to bite food!! I of coarse didn’t eat the pasta, just the ground 99% fat free turkey and a little of the sauce with Greek yogurt instead of sour cream. It totally hit the spot for me. Since I’ve made homemade marinara with ground turkey, Chicken salad, and tuna salad. I think I’m cooking orange salmon (squeeze fresh orange over the salmon and bake) today. -
Lauren I'm with you 100%. Since day one I made a promise to myself not to eat processed foods and for 95% of the time I'm on board with it. I start each day with a cup of coffee (wait 30 minutes) then eat my breakfast which is a yogurt and hard boiled egg. In September after a weight gain and a spike in my A1c I stopped eating at 7PM and didn't eat agin until 8AM. This seems to have been a missing part of my weight maintenance. As for food I prepare and cook my dinners but for lunch it's usually a can fish such as sardines, tuna or salmon. Thanks for the tips. Every little bit helps in this life long struggle. Continue the healthy life.

I love.... I mean LOVE ice cream.... I found an ATKINS fudge yogurt bar. I cheat 😢 but once I get my fix, I'm ok to go back to my Fiber, Blah, blah, blah.... It's the chewing slowly that's killing me. I fight w myself. I give myself a good cussing out to stick to this new habit. 😲 I'm dedicated & it's really a mental adjustment. So for everyone who's gone through this and just starting .... good luck!! I'm right behind y'all (fingers crossed) Any suggestions on CHEWABLE VITAMINS? Pre & Post. -
Nov 2020 Bypass Peeps?
Luna805 replied to Lanie Hardy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tomorrow is 3 weeks post op for me. I’m down 22 lbs from surgery. I’ve tolerated foods really well and what has been working is boiled eggs, chicken/veggie Soup, cottage cheese, string cheese, cashews, yogurt, whole wheat crackers, cauliflower, refried Beans with a sprinkle of cheese, tuna, strawberries/bananas and all the warm tea I can drink! I made dessert for husbands work and wasn’t even tempted to over eat. Had 3 small bites and sent it off. Averaging about 5 lbs a week in losses. Some pain here and there in one spot but pretty darn happy overall! -
I'd respectfully disagree with Grady here. Advice varies in the medical world & each body/stomach is unique. You may require the odd nutritious snack, especially if its high protein. I'm exercising at a level that requires more protein than many at my stage (I'm pretty new to this too!) My nutritionist wants me to have protein yogurts or bars post work out to prevent muscle loss. I know someone who has a long thin stomach & can't fit enough in at normal meal times so must supplement by snacking.

Food Before and After Photos
Starwarsandcupcakes replied to GreenTealael's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
It means I can eat more of it than I can other things and it’s easy for my body to digest they kind of slide through the digestive system. Other foods I find that are like that for me- multigrain crackers, toast, and sometimes yogurt depending on the kind. Other people have different ones for them. -
First, just about everyone stalls at least once on their journey regardless of their protein intake. It’s just your body taking a breath to catch up with the changes. I wasn’t getting my protein in either to begin. My goal was 60g. I couldn’t tolerate protein shakes at all - so grainy & blah! Shudder! But they’re the easiest way to meet your goals if you can tolerate them & they contribute to your fluid goal too. I added a high protein yoghurt/yogurt drink to my diet to up my daily protein intake instead. My dietician also suggested adding milk powder to my milk to make it extra rich & double the protein except I found it too sweet. I add it to my chia pudding now.

I never ate that much for months. A quarter to a third of a cup was the norm for me. It would take 3 days to eat 2 scrambled eggs. I ate three times a day & at about month 3 I started slowly adding an afternoon snack of yogurt &/or fruit. At 19 months out I eat about 3 oz of protein. I do eat more vegetables than when I was losing (about 1/2 cup now) & have more snacks. Last night I had a bare cup of bolognese ( mince beef, onions, celery, carrot, tinned tomato) over 35 mins & it was more than enough. At 5 weeks I could eat about 1/4 cup of the same. Don’t push yourself to eat to a specific amount. Just make sure you’re meeting your protein goals. We can only eat what we can eat. Eat slowly until you feel like you’ve had enough. (It takes time for the message you’re full to get through.) You don’t want to eat too much or eat until you’re over full. I can take 20 mins to an hour to eat. I’m a believer in putting my fork down between bites, waiting before I take another & asking do I really need (not want) that next bite. Some people can & do eat more. Others less. You just have to work out what is the right amount for you & your body within your program. Good luck & congrats on your surgery.

The flu and wanting carbs or to eat more calories HELP
Luna805 replied to Maryalice717's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
If your sick and craving carbs, I’d put a serving size (4-5) whole wheat or whole grain crackers in a soup. If you have someone to help you, I’d be asking for home made chicken/veggie soup. If you want an instapot recipe I make my own, I just don’t know if I’d feel like making my own if sick. Also cottage cheese and triple 0 Greek yogurts help me when I feel like I NEED carbs. I wouldn’t stress about being perfect while recovering. Get some Gatorade zero, add some yummy crackers, diet cranberry juice and Netflix until better. Hope your feeling better soon 💕 -

Our pre-op diets are very similar. I’ll freeze my black bean yummy soup. I wasn’t told Clear Liquids only, just liquids. I’m drinking 3 Protein Shakes and 3 Snacks. Snacks can be: Greek yogurt, milk, sugar free pudding/jello, ricotta, tea, unlimited: Water, zero Gatorade, Protein Water, crystal lite ‘true lemon’, día drink. Absolutely no solids and no fruits. I thought by puréeing the Soup qualifies as a liquid lol. This is my last week on the pre-op diet before surgery so I’ll try to keep it as clear liquids as possible. Thanks -

@merraculous still trying to learn how to respond on this app or delete post. My pre-op diet is different than yours. I wasn’t told Clear Liquids, just liquids. Good luck with your surgery too. -
A normal day of food post op?
MaybeMeow2 replied to TrueNorth1's topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
Nearly 6 months post op. I've lost exactly 20% of my weight which was my goal for 6 months. My daily "goals" are 70 protein 70 (or less) carbs and under 1000 calories. I know most people eat less but I've been hungry since month 2 and these goals are manageable for me. I hit them pretty much every day. Here's my honest to goodness a typical day. Sometimes I eat healthier: Morning Smoothie: 0% Fage Greek yogurt, PB2 powder, Almond Banana Milk, fresh spinach, and chocolate stevia drops. (23 protein, 13 carbs, 180 calories. Lunch: 1/2 cup 2% cottage cheese with a teaspoon of Ranch dressing and a small chopped tomato. (12 protein, 10 carb, 100 calories) and 1/4 cup dry roasted sunflower seeds (6 protein, 5 carb, 160 calories) I used to do a meat like chicken or fish instead of the seeds but I found these help me stay regular. Struggling to poop has made me miserable since surgery so I eat these seeds every day. Afternoon Snack: IF I'VE HAD 48 oz of water then I treat myself with this every day: 1 cup fairlife chocolate milk (14 protein, 13 Carb, 140 calories) 2 shots espresso (25 calories), Squirt of whipped cream (25 calories) DInner: 2-3 oz chicken, or steak, or shrimp, or turkey. Small serving of cooked or raw veggie, 1 oz starchy carb like potato, rice, corn (it's literally 3 small bites worth but it helps me digest my protein). Dessert/Treat: Chocolate almonds, cocomel caramels, or the like. Usually about 160 calories of candy. This is the part I should not have and usually makes me nausous. On occasion I skip it but not often. Average about 56oz of water a day. -
My experience has been like yours. When I got to puree, it changed some. Pureed salmon salad, turkey salad, and egg salad are filling me up. One third cup per meal. Cottage cheese and yogurt don't seem to. I just had the Ricotta bake that is so famous here, and it was awesome, and filled me up. First hot food in a month! Beside broth. Folks here are getting by on 300-500 calories a year out, and im at 500-700, three weeks out. That worries me, but I'm going with my program, getting my hydration and protien every day.

10/26 Surgery! Anyone interested in a surgery buddy/support group?
futureshrink replied to BypaSSSed's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Breakfast was yogurt and a clear protein drink. Snack was a protein drink. Lunch was two egg whites with Parmesan cheese. Snack was a cheese stick. I was craving something savory for dinner and tried a few teaspoons of mashed potatoes which just came back up. Now I just feel like hell. I still have to take my night meds so I hope they stay down. The lap band was so different. When I couldn’t tolerate a food I just threw it up immediately. The bypass is so different. It’s like it keeps trying and trying to go down for an hour and then finally it comes back up. I’m learning, eat slowly, chew everything. How did you do today? -

Hello, oh no lol I gave away all my boxes I purchased before surgery in preparation for after lol. I did get genepro it just came in the mail yesterday yay! I threw a scoop in a lil Gatorade zero and I managed to get it down. I also managed to make some egg salad puréed with some chicken broth and it was so good I managed to get it down. It’s been so weird I can tolerate yogurt and sf pudding one day and the next I can’t touch it. It’s literally been a battle daily but I’m throwing powder in everything I can lol to get my protein up. I can finally drink water normally now except I can only drink alkaline water regularly purified water hurts. Anyways it’s nice to have people going through the same thing to talk to. Let me know if you try those shakes again. -

Horrible I feel like crap, only eating yogurt , everything eles makes me nauseous . How about you ? -
K, not sure what is in YOUR vitamins, and how you are taking them, but: Iron tends to cause upset stomach. If your multis have iron in them, consider finding one that has a lower amount. Taking certain types of calcium tablets will cause upset stomach if you don't have anything in there...if this may be the cause, you can try taking them after you eat....or during. (I used to take my morning calcium with a tsp of greek yogurt...did the trick.) I started taking calcium chews midway through weight loss phase...goes down just fine on an empty stomach AND delicious, lol. They are about 10 cals each, though.

I am a food addict. And Bypass isn't a cure.
EllaKop replied to MaybeMeow2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for your post. I have been waiting for one of these. Since my surgery my relationship with food has changed so much. It's like a dog I want to pet but he will only let me wave, ya know? Since my tummy doesn't let me eat many things I have taken to baking and cooking for my friends and family - also for my freezer lol. One thing that I have done to allow for some sweetness in my regimen is blending up a tasty fruity protein shake each morning. I find that pairing unflavored protein powder with greek yogurt, 1/4 cup of frozen fruit (I'm digging the Wymans Passionfruit blend currently) and 2-3 oz of OJ helps satiate my sugar craving while also getting in 45grams of protein in one meal (Less than 300 calories). I start my day with that - I feel like pairing so much protein with the fruit/oj equals it out. I had an 8 day stall before I started doing those shakes and since I've been drinking them consistently my weight loss has been steady again. Don't get me wrong I still have a nibble of bread or a treat but know how that can be a slippery slop for myself. Maybe try a different route for your sweet tooth. You are doing great and can change your direction. Don't beat yourself up too much. I have a feeling most of us on here are our own biggest critics - pivot and think positive. You've got this! -
Your diet sounds so much better than mine. I am allowed three shakes, a non fat plain yogurt and a bariatric pudding a day. I spoke to the nutritionist this morning and she told me I can have a hard boiled egg! I’ve never been so excited for an egg before!
