Weeks after my surgery I found it hard to eat soft foods, etc. everything I ate seemed to make me sick to the stomach. Now that I am a least 10 weeks out I have another dilemma......For weeks now I have been eating only to chew my food very well......but when it time to swallow it I DON'T! I spit it out (maybe TMI). Don't get me wrong some food go down, but only a bite maybe a half bite the rest goes in the trash. I don't eat around people because I catch myself grabbing a napkin or tissue! It has gotten so bad that we went to a restaurant and the first thing my husband did was grab napkins and gave it to me! I was so embarrassed! I drank a lot of water that trip. I feel that if I swallow the food I will get that bubbling, nauseous feeling in my stomach. I don't know what to do...I quit one habit and formed another. Any suggestion! Go see my NUT on the 18th sooooo!

The Correlation: Fiber Gummies, Miralax, 2 Week Stall
one_more_time posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Disclaimer: Might be TMI....but thought I would post this info just in case someone found it useful.. you never know right? At any rate... prior to surgery I had to do the "dreaded" bowel prep and it did it's job... thoroughly. Left the hospital on February 12th and my bowels were so loose I literally had to wear a pad every time when I left the house. So everything was moving right along...was passing gas... the whole nine. All of sudden about 4 or 5 days after I got home everything just STOPPED! Oh my! Called my doctor/went to see my PCP for a post surgery check up and both told me to use miralax. Everything else I was told would be to harsh for my new pouch. I complied and this past Monday started mixing Miralax with my crystal light and taking Fiber Gummies ( 2 twice a day). My weight had stalled out at about 230 lbs for almost 2 weeks, even went up to around 231. Yesterday things got moving and this morning I woke up and I'm down to 228 lbs. So that's about 2-3 lb lost over the last two days and I believe my stall was due to things "locking" up. I will be taking Fiber Gummies twice a day along with my Vitamin supplements ...just make sure that things stay "regular". -
Hi Zoumommy, I was also sleeved on 2/3, so I am no expert by far, but have experienced what you are talking about. I try not to be too hard on myself as I am only a bit over 3 weeks out and have found this new way of eating to be a HUGE learning process. I am on soft foods, every surgeon is different re: post op diets, but I find that if I wait too long to eat then I will not chew my food enough because I am hungry and then it will hurt. Just consider it a lesson learned. Also, I have found this week I am hungry all of the time! I am PMS'ing (sorry tmi) so I think that is not helping. Even when I eat until satisfied, I find that I am hungry shortly after, which hasn't happened before. Maybe it's a 3 week post op thing? As our tummies heals, they start wondering where all the food went? Good luck to you!

Does removing the drain = pain?
thall04 replied to thall04's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Awesome. Thanks guys!! I've been having major issues! I developed an infection from the vaccine they gave me at the hospital. I was running a fever, and my arm hurt worse than the actual surgery. Crazy! Also, I haven't been taking any pain meds because I'm allergic to codeine. Occasionally I have taken Tylenol for the fever, but I'm just trying to get through it. Hasn't been too bad! Hahaha! I seriously can't wait to get the drain out and be able to shower normally! Hahaha! Sorry if that's tmi! -

I am 3 weeks post op today and while I was in the shower this morning I had no problem washing my back side as I once did 3 weeks ago. I have never shared this with any other soul and I must say I feel wonderful. Even though I dnt see any loss I feel a little different. Sorry if this was to much info I needed to share -
I am very surprised about how many of you had drains or came home with drains. I didn't have a drain and when I did my research there really wasn't a lot of information on the drains. And to the lovely ladies on her did you experience nipple soreness. Mine are crazy sore. I must be loosing the weight in my breast. Lol sorry for the TMI.

TMI but every hour I pee so every hour I take a lap -
Morning everyone, I have a question for you all. I'm sorry if this is TMI but I need to know if anymore else has had this problem. I've been having BM troubles in that I've been having really bad cramping and then having to run to the loo and have nothing happen. This goes on for hours everyday and then I finally go to the loo. Well today I had to go home from work as the cramping is making me want to throw up and my tummy is bloated, but I have been able to go to the loo. For the last few months I've had to take Benefibre everyday just so that I have some kind of BM. But in the last week or so I've not been taking it because of the mentioned problem. So what I wanted to know is, has anyone else had this and should I just speak to my surgeon (I get to see him after 6 months next month) My GP as said that the cramps my be just my period but that isn't due for another 2 weeks. Any ideas would be great. Cheers Bec

Just curious. I have really been struggling with irregularity. I haven't had those issues in over 18 years. But I may go 3 days and things get pretty backed up. Does anyone else have these issues? Solutions? Our doc recommends Milk of Magnesia, but it does nothing for me.

February/March 2014 sleevers
*Glitter*In*The*Air* replied to rebeccasams's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
**Warning - possibly TMI** (lol) Okay all you poopers. I had my surgery Monday and no poop for me yet. I'm eating puréed proteins 3x a day. At what point do you all think I should be concerned? Oh, also got another period yesterday, too! Had one on the 7th and another one showed up yesterday. Really?! I don't know if I should be worried about it or not. -
Any February 2014 Sleevers?
LeighAnneF replied to honeyg317's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey guys. Today seems better so far. Yesterday. I think I ate too much chicken broth for dinner and was soooo full. But weighed this morning and down 5.2 lbs. YAY!!! I have been off the pain meds since Thursday. But still take some Tylenol extra strength at night. The worst part now is my BMs are now in liquid form. (Sorry if TMI). I do still get some gas pains when I drink, but they have reduced as well. Thank you all for being here to share this experience with. Hearing your experiences and being able to share mine has kept me from being scared throughout these first few days. This forum is AMAZING. but it is because of each of YOU!!! -
Severe acid reflux/heartburn, 5 months out..help!
SarahRN482 replied to SarahRN482's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So here's my update! I called my surgeon's office this morning and spoke with his nurse prior to my IR appointment. I told her again my symptoms and how I really do not feel my reflux is due to the band being too tight. I told her the only time I have issues is when I eat (literally as soon as I swallow a first bite, the pain is there). I told her that I think I may have gastritis (I'm an RN, so she knows I kinda know what I'm talking about even though I work with heart patient's and not GI stuff lol). I asked her to please talk with the doc before I went into the hospital to get registered and dropped $650 to get Fluid taken out of my band and then that not be the issue. She said she didn't blame me for wanting to try the least invasive treatment first, so that's what we did. I'm currently on carafate 4 times a day, and even after one dose I've had so far today, I can tell a HUGE improvement. Tonight, I had another thought though, while I was TMI!!! on the toilet. I have had MAJOR constipation issues. I have tried everything possible to help, from Miralax to Colace to Sennakot to Fleets enemas and suppositories. I've even started eating chia seeds in the mornings in my yogurt because I've heard that helps. I drink at least 64oz of Water per day, most days closer to 100oz, so know it's not a hydration issue. Before my surgery, I could drink 2 cups of coffee and poop every morning like clockwork. Not so much now! After I had a BM tonight, I felt SO much better. I almost wonder if the constipation isn't exacerbating the reflux? -
I thought I was through with the post-op constipation. Nope. Had first BM last night. Had a normal one this morning then had another rough go later in the morning. I am so over this! Lol. Sorry if its TMI. Just had to share.

I was just curious how folks progress with their incisions. The instructions I received were keep them covered until the shower at 3 days out, then leave them uncovered. The exception was the drain site and to gauze it if it was weeping, but it's dry so keeping it uncovered. Only my t-shirts and nighties are over them. Shower daily with soap, Water and pat dry. Was told Absolutely no ointments, peroxide, alcohol, nothing. POSSIBLE TMI: So out of 4 incisions and the drain site only one big guy looks a bit angry. Sort of a big scab stretching open just a bit, but cannot see inside. That's the one that was used for the scope and such, and maybe the one they pull the evicted tummy from? Not sure on that last part and will ask next week. Next week the staples come out. So how are your sites progressing? What kind of stitches did you have? I know we're all different, but got curious as I again wanted to scratch near that ugly one. Surgery was 2/11. Thanks

Post-Op January 2014 Losers Club!
lhargis replied to Eroper6's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Miralax and such is safe to use because it doesn't have any stimulants in it to cause issues. My surgeon said that in the beginning there may be days between BM. A bit TMI but even 7 weeks out I go maybe once every three or four days. Because our amount of food has significantly smaller than what it used to be our body has to adjust. -
I had a horrible stuck episode tonight before bed. I've gotten stuck before, on a small scale and it always passes quickly. But not tonight. I was stuck for about 20-25 minutes and I thought I was going to die!! Thankfully I did not vomit (TMI?) but there was lots of sliming. So tomorrow what should I do? Should I stick to liquids for a day it is that not necessary? I've never had such a bad episode and I don't want to anger an already irritated band! Thanks for your help!

Excited, but nervous...waiting patiently for approval
Kelsmurf replied to Kelsmurf's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you Cupcake for the suggestion, I chose the sleeve because of the malabsorption issue with the bypass, and also because of the less likely of dumping happening (sorry if tmi) and i already know what that is like all the research I have done shows a greater than 85% chance of remission with type 2 diabetes, and at this point I have 0% chance. I have loved this site too, I called my insurance and they have till Thursday to review it...ugh just ready to get approval and date scheduled...good luck to you too!!!! -
Shock, excitement and time to get ready
NotSoTall replied to NotSoTall's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi jankirby. We are on a very similar path. I'm a little envious that you get your staples out this week. Enjoy the freedom! My postop appointment is 2/26 so another week of metal tummy for me. The pretend itch gave me a chuckle. Thanks! I've been scratching areas that aren't itching but are somewhat near the itches and it almost helps. LOL. I've been taking less of the effexor, but they did change my script for the 2 weeks to make it crushable. I'm not good about the flavor and grit that comes from the crushable meds so I'm backing off a bit without stopping and will increment back up when I can swallow the pills. That reminds me that I have to call them about the Actigall that's supposed to prevent the gallstones. It's important enough that I want to take it and try to, but the flavor is overwhelming and stays in my mouth long after the quick swallow I try to take of it. I'm thinking of asking how harmful it would be to skip that until the 2 week postop when I'm allowed to swallow the pills again. It's the only thing that makes my stomach want to wretch. sorry if tmi. That said I'll go through it if they say I must. I don't want any more surgeries if I can prevent them. Surgery was one week ago and now am down 7 pounds post op. So cool. I got a little concerned that I was taking in too many calories, but read a lot all over the net and decided to chill out and go with it. The calories result from the liquids I'm ingesting to get to the 60-80g Protein and 50-64oz liquids. I'll just keep doing what I'm doing and not sweat the calories. The most was 700 one day, yesterday was a bit over 600. It's easy to get caught up in other folks info, and nothing wrong with learning from it, but must not compare as we're all individuals. Unless of course I was putting away so much that it would indicate a problem with the sleeve or taking in sugary things (no thanks, the RTD Proteins are sweet enough. I think the one thing keeping the calories a hair higher is that I choose 1% milk, 2% plain greek yogurt, etc. i'm deliberately not doing FF, but also not doing anything full fat. That's a personal choice. My body has historically reacted poorly to fat free living. Dry skin, foggy brain are a couple things that come to mind. That said, the choices I'm making fall within the dietary guidelines prescribed by my bariatric program so it's all good. Wishing a good, comfortable day to all! Time to go crush that yummy pill into the last sip of Protein Drink. Mmmmmm.
