  1. What sort of things are you eating? What would make you think you stretched it? Have you heard of the 3 week stall? You may be in the middle of that. How much do you have to lose?

    July Sleevers

The dreaded 3 week stall. It's a very well known phenomenon in the world of VSG. Some have it a 2 weeks, others at 4 weeks but the majority have it at 3 weeks. Hang in there and keep following your doctor's orders and it will break. I promise.
  3. Hi eveyone, I am 4 weeks post up. I am very grateful but still I have mixed emotions about my sleeve. Prior to being sleeved I would read where people would say that they were scared that they would be the person that the sleeve did not work for. I did not understand why they would think that. Well.... I'm afraid to say I feel the same way. Please know that I've read TONS of forum posts both here and on other sites, watched TONS of videos to know that I have to be patient and tha everyone's journey is not the same. Please know that I am not comparing. I am simply scared that perhaps this might not work. Here's my details: In late 2006 I weighed 284Ibs, I lost 77Ibs within a little over a year. I did this by mostly working out (almost everyday) and reduced my food intake. In the last year I stopped running and kickboxing due to osteoarthritis and a major flare up with my knees prompted to tone down my workouts. So within the last year I went up to 236Ibs. I never was able to go below 200Ibs. I decided it was time, I realized I needed the tool to help me. So I did my research I knew that I already know have working out down so that would not be a problem. I realized that I needed help with portion control. I lost 8Ibs pre op bring my surger day weight to 228Ibs. I've read that I would need to maximize the 1st 6 to 9 months for my wieght loss so I was prepared to do everything and beyond that was recommended of me. From day one I walked as I was told to. And days after that I made it a point to walk at least 30mins, I listened to my body and stopped when needed. I drank my water the 1st week even though that was hard. By almost week 3 I was drinking 60ounces of water. And now in week 4, I drink (not exagerating) 90-105 ounces. I have to say I really bounced back pretty good. I'm now back to working out at the gym on the elliptical and taking my spinning classes as well ast other cardio-weight training classes. So now 1st week post op I lost 11ibs... yay! but I knew I hardly ate anything as I was only on broth and popsicles. The second week I lost 1ibs, the third week I lost 1.8 and now at 4 weeks I lost 1ibs.... making it a total of about 14Ibs since surgery. Please don't get me wrong I know that it would have been hard to accomplish without VSG. BUT I trully never expected small losses at week 2 onwards. In all the reasearch I never knew that I would lose just about a pound a week after the 1st week. Now I know someone will say this is perhaps the dreaded 3 week stall but this is was on my second week! For some reason I thought after the 1st week that perhaps about 3 - 5Ibs lost on the average would be reasonable for at least 4 weeks. Believe me when I say I am really doing everything right, I forgot to mention that I am taking in at least 80gm of Protein. Am I missing something? Over a week ago my calorie intake was about 660cal a day. My NUT said I needed to increase the calories especially since I've been really working out, she would like to see me as close as possible to 100cal. I must admit, this scared me but I increased it to about avg 780cals this last week. I know everyone is different but I read where people about 4weeks out can hardly drink or eat and are no where near 800cals. I like to consider myself blessed to be almost back to normal but really wonder if my calorie intake of 780Ibs too high for 4weeks. Am I in the three week stall and then perhaps next week things will get going, perhaps my stall started a week earlier? who knows... I would hate to have gone through something I believed in so much as VSG and have it not work out for me. Really are there those that this does no work for. Most days I'm able to put the negative thoughts away and behind me but I can't help but wonder. I've analyzed my eating, water intake, vitamins, protien and workout. Where else or what else have I missed? I've got to lose right? My HRM reading says I've burned at least 400cals a day for the past 4days. Is there anyone out there that this has happend to but started to loss a little more by month two. When I 1st lost 77Ibs I worked out like crazy to keep it off. My hopes with the VSG was that I could still keep my workouts but not like crazy. These last three weeks I've worked hard for little loss and yet I'm not eating as much as I used to. I wondered if I did not workout if I would have lost anything. My goal is to lose about 60 to 70Ibs but I wonder if setting a goal is especially that low would be attainable. Sorry guys I'm just venting. PS: Sorry for any typos or incorrect spellings.

    July Sleevers

Hello...I was sleeved on July 2nd and I am doing great. I think I have hit the dreaded 3 week stall but it is o.k. I know this will pass and hopefully sooner than later. I still have some slight incision pain from time to time but not anything that I need meds for. I weighed 210 and lost 4 pounds before surgery and now I weigh 192-193 depending on what my body wants to weigh in the morning...

    3 Week Stall

I just finished my 3 week stall finally. I had the same feelings as you- I'm not going to be successful at this. On the 14th day of the stall I lost a pound, and then another pound the next day. I'm not sure there is anything you can do but stick to your plan. It's discouraging, but we have to keep in mind that there are people who have lost more than 100 pounds in a year who had a 3 week stall just like us.
  6. Errrr, I have hit the infamous 3 week stall. It seems way to early to experience this, it is so discouraging. In the back of my mind I am thinking I will be the only one in the world that this won't work for. I am following my diet so I guess I will try to kick up the exercise a bit. Any other suggestions?
  7. Are you having enough Protein? I know they told me first and foremost always get in my protein. Are you measuring everything? If so, give your body some time. It's adjusting. The weight will come off as long as you are following the plan. I know it's hard to hear, and if I were in your shoes I would be frustrated too (And probably will when I hit my 3 week stall), but a stall around this time is common. Search the boards you will see it over and over again. It might take a bit, but your body will get back on track. In the mean time keep watching your measurements. Maybe you are losing inches!

Weight Loss Has Stalled After Only 4 Weeks

Very common and very normal. Just search the 3-week stall and you will find many, many, many posts from people that have gone through it and from people that can assure you it is fine. Your body has been through major surgery and it is trying to adjust. It WILL start coming off again.
  9. I had my VSG on June 28th. I had lost 37 pounds preop from the first week of March. In the first two-three weeks after surgery I lost 17 pounds. For the last 11 days I have been stalled, and actually went up a couple of pounds. I have read all about the 3 week stall and I knew to expect it. I know scientifically why it is happening. I am usually a calm, patient person. But this is starting to drive me nuts! I find myself doubting having the whole procedure. I wonder if this whole thing won't work. It irritates me that I lost all of the weight preop doing low carb with lots more calories and big portions and now I am not losing with this extreme diet. I am sticking to plan, getting in the fluids, getting about 80 grams of protein, usually around 40 carbs, 700-800 calories. I am still on the mushies stage for a few more days. I guess I need to know that other people have had this happen and everything ended up working out and the weight did come off.
  10. I have not lost even an ounce since last Tuesday =( I know everyone says it will be ok, you'll lose but it is so frustrating!! I didn't pay all the money (self pay) and go through the emotional rollercoaster to stall for this long!! I know I will probably look back 6 months from now and laugh at myself for fussing but right now, at this moment in time, I am frustrated... Am I allowed that at least?
  11. i was sleeved on july 2. i'm 3 weeks and3 days out. i started at 236, was at 219, for a loss of 17 lbs. Today i weighed 221!!i've GAINED 2 lbs. Thats crazy! i'm following all the rules, getting in my protein, eating right, walking on the treadmill, walking around shopping. Drinking my water, even taking miralax. I've heard of the 3 week stall but not the 3 week gain. WHAT THE HECK? Am I just doomed to be fat forever? Even after all this? I do not understand. Very frustrated today.
  12. search for the 3 week stall. Nearly every sleever has a stall between 3 and 6 weeks post op. It's our bodies readjusting to our new diet and hydration. It will end soon, just keep following your plan. The good news is that most people's stall breaks dramatically, with a large amount of weight lost seemingly overnight. Mine was 5 or 6 pounds, IIRC. A good thing to keep track of is your measurements. Even when I stall, I see dramatic drops in inches lost. That's when I "shape shift".

    Huge Stall!

I can completely speak to this... The dreaded "3 week stall".... I posted regarding this about 2 weeks ago. I am a little over 6 weeks out (will be 7 on Thursday). I was/am getting my Protein, calories, and walking every evening. The one area I had a deficit in was getting my fluids in. I'm happy to say that I've finally broken through my stall. I've lost 4lbs since last Friday (today is Monday). I have lost a total of 42lbs since beginning my 2 week preop diet. I would like to mention that I took a week off of walking - not by choice, just random circumstance. I resumed walking this past Saturday and have increased my distance each night. I'm thrilled to have broken through this stall and elated that I am back on track. Hang in there! From what I understand everyone thinks the 3 week stall won't happen to them (and its more likely it will), and there's really not much you can do to mentally prepare for it. By the time you reach 3 weeks out, you've crossed over to the other side and as long as you follow the program prescribed by your doctor, you'll push through this and find yourself sharing your personal account with others like me! Disappointed

I echo that you should be measuring inches. EVERY time the scale stops, I drop the inches. To be honest, I am happy when my scale stops because I get more compliments when those inches fall off. At my 3 week stall I put my scale away. I decided to weigh one a week. Somehow being able to let go let my body relax. I knew I was doing everything I was supposed to. But you also need to know almost everyone goes through this. When we wish we would have lost more or we think we have "earned" more loss. It gets us down, make us think what more we could do. Just know you aren't alone. Thus scale WILL move again and you already have accomplished more than ever before (I know you "lost" more in shorter time on HCG but that comes back, this is permanent) keep on keeping on!

Where Are My April 2012 Sleevers?

kiki - 3 week stall! Ugh! I've been plugging right along. Every day the scale scoots down just a bit. From surgery (4/10) I'm down 52 pounds to 172. Finally I weigh less than my husband!! I can feel bones I have never felt before. On a funny note (boys, cover your eyes) when I lie on my back, my boobs have shrunk and tend to slide to the sides, but I now have my rib cage poking up, that looks like low boobs. Well, can't have everything, right?! At least my ribs are my highest part when I'm on my back instead of a tummy mountain. Shopping has been weird. I've nearly shrunk past all of the clothes I had that were too small. I've picked up a few things at Target but I'm not sure what size to buy. And the selection! Isn't it strange to be able to shop the whole department?! Before, it was "Well, this fits, I guess I'll take it." Now I can hardly decide what to buy because everything fits. Amazing. With food, I'm still sticking to soft protein. I've got years to eat chicken and all that. I want to eat easy food that I know will make me feel good. Good luck everyone - we're doing great!!
  16. You're at your 3 week stall...its infamous. Just watch...you'll lose inches now for a week or two but little to no weight. Keep in there, its not a race and there will be more stalls to come. Just prepare mentally and follow proper diet

    Disappointed

You hit the 3 week stall. It's very normal. I hit mine a little further out, but it's still the same. Your body needs time to catch up. My stall lasted 3 1/2 weeks. Don't get discouraged. Now's the time to take out the measuring tape and take measurements. I stalled from week 5 through week 9. I was 231 during the stall. I am 12 weeks now... I am 208... So no worries. You got it honey.

    Disappointed

You've done amazing in 5 weeks! I do however understand the frustration, I mean we've put ourselves through major surgery for the ultimate and desperate goal of dropping the weight, and hopefully quickly! I am in a 3 day stall at 208.4 after dropping 18 lbs in the first 2 weeks. I have heard it called the 3 week stall so I'm not too worried about it, it will come off eventually. We've just got to be patient and work the sleeve, it's too late to turn around now! LOL!!

    Super Saturday Weigh In

Well I'm still weighing in here for Saturday, but then I'll weigh in on Monday for the Labor Day Challenge. Hopefully I'll keep myself honest over the weekend. I lost 2.6 lbs this week! Yay, I may have finally broken my 3 week stall.

    6/25/12 Sleevers?

I was sleeved 6/25 as well. I am on my 3 week stall right now...I went down to 260 (from 303) and today was back at 262..Oh well! My clothes are looser so I know I am losing inches. Look at my profile picture to show you where I am since 6/4. I was surprised by the difference. Also there is a topic here " June Sleevers! Hows It Going?" If you want to see more June sleevers! I am happy and just going to wait the stall out. One thing I noticed was bad breath..I have to carry something with me so I won't gross people out! Glad you are doing good!

    6/25/12 Sleevers?

Yessss. I just got over that 3 week stall. I knew it was normal so I just kept doing what I had been doing. Its comin off again now.

    It's Gonna Happen!

OMG I'm so glad you posted this cuz I was convinced that I was that one person this wouldn't work for. I'm going thru that lovely 3 week stall and thought this was a joke. I'm so glad I read this. Congrats om your weight lose, and thanks for giving me hope
  23. The one pound gain is absolutely normal. I gained a pound today and in the next few days I'll probably lose 3 or 4. It's normal, it's natural and it may be sodium, it may be hotter out by you, (sometimes heat causes Water retention). Sometimes it's your body catching up, it's also the time of day you weigh yourself. Lack of normal bowel movements is a big issue. We had water in and water out, and now I take metamucil and prescription amitiza and still need a suppository to go potty. It's as though I forgot how to poop without it being water. Relax, there are hundreds of posts regarding 3 week stall. This is normal. I stalled presurgery on 800 calories a day 80 grams of Protein and 45-75 carbs a day. On the days I ate LESS...and my exercise pretty much covered my food I would have a 3 pound INCREASE....then I'd be ticked off go out to Red Lobster, overeat and lose that 3 pounds plus another 3 pounds. It's perfectly normal.
  24. Good morning everyone!! It's been 5 months already, hurray! So far down 71 lbs but for the last 3 weeks I haven't lost anything =(... Still exercising 5 times a week and eating the same amounts.. but not sure if its a normal stall or what! Anyone experienced a stall around this month? I'm just thinking its weird since I am burning what I intake, maybe it is the muscle I am gaining.. The trainer measured me and I did increase muscle on my legs... not sure if that is holding me back..
  25. So I wrote a few days ago or a week ago and said I thought I was in the 3 week stall...but I guess it wasn't a stall my scale was broken!! I work on a cardiac unit in a hospital and I decided to weigh myself there and the difference was over 2lbs! I started reading about my scale and realized I left it standing vertical in my bathroom for a long time without using it and I guess in digital scales that throws the whole system off...so I went out and bought a new one (of course lol) and it was spot on...and I lost 3lbs this week! Not as much as I lost in previous weeks but nevertheless still a loss my total now since surgery (3 weeks ago today) 24lbs! I feel good and I am very happy!!
