    Acid reflux/gerd

You can try "lifestyle remedies" like elevating the head of your bed on bricks or whatever, not eating for the 4 hours before bed, avoiding foods that may be a trigger (tomatoes, greasy food, spicy food, alcohol, chocolate, peppermint, etc). If none of this works (there are other lifestyle remedies that I may have forgotten - try googling) you may need a revision to bypass unfortunately. It's a very common problem. Good luck!

    Expected loss

Highest weight (sleeve 2017 ) 285 I only got down to 210. Bypass revision due to GERD and regain (dec 2020) 242. Current weight 160. Those are my stats. I have found that with my revision surgery, I am losing weight slowly but steadily. I’m happy with this though and I’m at my lowest I’ve ever been in my adult life. Also, my GERD is gone :) All the best to you
  3. I will be undergoing sleeve revision to roux en y. One because of reflux but more importantly for weight loss. I lost 90 lbs. 7 years ago with sleeve and gained back 65. How much should I expect to lose? I have a new surgeon who I like much better and he is more concerned with my health and I can already see their follow ups will be much better. I am not screwing this one up. SW 250 Lowest 159 CW 225 GW 185
  4. Easy recovery here (both VSG and revision to RNY for gerd) and I was so paranoid that every year I went in for a barium swallow to look at my sleeve. I kept thinking I stretched it or injured it blahblahblah even though I could never eat more than a cup, even years later lol. You're good. Once you hit solids, it'll be a whole different ballgame.

    It feels too easy.

Sounds good to me. When people have pain drinking fluids, sometimes it is a red flag of something potentially wrong since liquids go right through all of us. I was like you with my VSG and I was that way right after my recent revision to RNY. I think the reason we hear about those having difficulty is because they are prone to write and ask about it here and I certainly don't blame them because for example, when I had a huge lump under one of my incisions, I mentioned it here. You're good. Congrats on your surgery!
  6. If you have GERD, RNY gastric bypass is the preferred revision. It usually cures GERD.

    Any revision surgeries on here?

It’s up to the discretion of the surgeon (and severity of the GERD) I think the weight requirement is not the main qualifier when revising for GERD.
  8. Did you also gain some of the weight back? Don’t you have to be a certain size to qualify for revision? Especially with insurance? I mean will a dr do it even for gerd if you are near a healthy BMI?
  9. that seems to be a fairly common revision for GERD sufferers. I'm sure some others will chime in, too (I've never had a revision - but several people on here have)
  10. Hi all, I had VSG back in 2014, and have been good. I developed bad GERD and am converting to bypass on October 1st. Does anyone have experience with this type of surgery? I would like to lose my remaining weight too, but don’t know how much a conversation will actually help you lose. Not having regurgitation will be with all of it though!!
  11. What a wonderful outcome! The 56lbs you lost was that after the revision? I go in for revision next week and have been looking for others experiences. Thank you for sharing and congratulations!
  12. Interested in this as a possible revision option. I had my VSG in January 2016 and have had a regain of 20 pounds but never actually reached my goal weight. Wondering about the insurance coverage though. Don't want to pay out of pocket if at all possible. Sounds like recovery is much like VSG just without the abdominal incision. Going to get in touch with my surgeon and see if its a possibility for me.

    Insurance Coverage for Revision

I don't think most policies cover revision unless there's some sort of mechanical failure with the first surgery, or if there's some medical issue like severe GERD. And some won't even cover things like that - I have a friend who's had horrible problems with her 10-year-old lapband the last couple of years (constant vomiting, etc), and her policy refuses to cover a revision. Although keep checking around - hopefully you'll find one that does. A majority don't seem to - maybe a few do...

One week post-op — feeling hunger

I’m almost 2yrs out from my VSG and a little over 13 months out from a VSG to RNY (gerd) revision and the hunger pangs do get better after being on more solid foods. With VSG it doesn’t take away all the receptors for ghrelin because they’re all over the stomach but does remove most of them as the stomach is greatly reduced in size. Staying hydrated really helps as does trying to keep yourself distracted. I also found saving a meal or snack for about 30 minutes before bed really helped me stay asleep longer so I wasn’t waking up hungry.
  15. I'm so interested in what folks have to say about this. I too had the sleeve and my Gerd disappeared but now 3 yrs later and almost all my weight gained back in the past year due to personal loss that caused depression my Gerd is back worse then ever before. So I've been thinking about revision surgery.

    Lap-Band Revision

I am curious as well and will be converting from lap band to a gastric bypass. So I am looking for information on anyone who had a revision.
  17. Having my Lap-Band converted to a sleeve. I had to have all the fluid taken out a few years ago due to a hiatal hernia. Anyone else have the revision? How different is it afterward?
  18. Hey everyone! I'm sure there are many posts on here for revision but I'm in need of some help. I'm 7 years out of VSG surgery and am embarrassed to say I've gained everything back. The only excuse I have is life got in the way. I've been in touch with my surgeon and have been discussing revision surgery. My issue is, I do not have the same insurance (Aetna) now that I did when I had my original surgery. I'm having a hard time finding an insurance that will cover a revision. My current employers' plan does not even remotely cover anything bariatric wise so I'm hoping you fine people can give me some info of where I can turn. I thought I found a decent multiplan but I've since been told they do not cover bariatric surgery either. Thank you all for your time.
  19. I wasn't a sleeve but my insurance only pays for one surgery so I felt I had to make the best decision the first time. I knew there would be no revisions. I finally decided since already had severe GERD the RNY gastric bypass was the right surgery for me. My doctor asked about a DS and I decided I didn't want that. I've never regretted my decision.
  20. I wasn't a revision, but I chose bypass from the start because I had GERD pre-op. I'm still happy with my decision and i'd make the same choice if I had to make it today. As you said, bypass usually (not always, but usually) greatly improves if not outright cures GERD. Sleeve has about 30% risk of making it worse. I didn't want to take the risk.
  21. I had my original sleeve done in 2016, went from 290 pre-surgery to 195, felt fantastic, no problems at all, they even invited me to have my picture taken for the doctor's advertising! Then I had some personal and professional problems and managed to gain EVERYTHING back. I met with my doctor and he recommended revision, which I am scheduled for some time in November, currently getting my clearances. He said after my endoscopy we'd discuss whether to re-sleeve or convert to bypass. He said if my sleeve was still intact it would have to be a bypass, but if it was dilated I could choose. I had my endoscopy last week and the sleeve is indeed dilated so now I have to make a decision. Another factor is I've had GERD for over 10 years and take esomeprazole daily which helps a lot but I've heard it's not great to take that forever either. I've also heard that bypass usually cures GERD, so that's another consideration. I'd love to hear thoughts from anyone who has either been re-sleeved or converted to bypass so I can have a better understanding of both options before I meet with my doctor again, Thanks!
  22. I'm doing all the jumping through hoops for the insurance company before I can get a sleeve to RNY revision. Looks like tomorrow is the big day for you!!! Congratulations!
  23. I was converted from VSG to RNY at my goal weight. I initially loss weight from the surgery because of lack of appetite and stricture. As soon as I could after dilation I went back to my normal calories and eating routine. I bounced back up to my pre revision weight and have maintained close to it for over 2 years.
  24. I am scheduled for a revision in December. I am so encouraged by this. I have always been hungry. And I know my stomach empties fast. I pray that I lose the hungry feeling. Glad you're doing well.
  25. It sounds to me like the revision is really to correct the "turn" in your pouch so that you can actually digest your food and get adequate nutrition instead of vomiting it back up. That should allow you to eat more so you don't continue to lose weight. Good luck with your surgery and congratulations on your weight loss. You look great in your picture.
