    Stall

So you sound like me. I lost 30 pounds in 2 weeks (yes, you read that right....2 weeks) and then hit the mother of all stalls. I gained 5 pounds and it lasted 2 weeks and I was MISERABLE. I vented a lot on here, I changed up my work out (longer walking, more frequently), I really watched what I was consuming (stall started at the very end of my liquid diet and then during my soft food stage). Once it broke, it BROKE. I lost 6 pounds lol Now I lose at a much slower rate (about 4-6 pounds a week on average) but I'm seeing changes in my body. Stalls, for me anyway, are the WORST part of the surgery. And my surgeon said the more you lose pre-stall, the slower you'll lost post-stall (and he was right!!). Now I'm 2 months out and have lost 43 pounds (so an average of 21.5 pounds per month) and I'll take that all day long. You'll get on the other side of this and when you see the scale move again, you'll be so happy lol It's hard because I know you're used to seeing huge weight loss every day/week. And while it'll be slower, it'll be steady and manageable. Just keep yourself busy. Distract yourself. Don't weigh yourself every day. Stick to your bariatric diet and keep exercising. And look for non-scale victories. Those will really make a big difference.
  2. Is anyone using the TESPO Liquid Bariatric Vitamins with the dispenser? Would you please share your experience and whether or not your levels are good? Thanks in advance.
  3. Be sure you are getting your protein and taking your vitamins. I take biotin and extra zinc along with my multivitamin with iron. It helps if you get vitamins that are specific to bariatric patients since they are formulated better for us. I order Barimelts and they are chewable so easier to take. I’ve been taking my vitamins religiously every day and even though I’ve still had some hair loss it hasn’t been too bad. Just know that the hair loss will slow once your body adjusts after surgery. Hang in there! 💕

    New here

I am in the UK but went private. The NHS around us are not doing Bariatric surgery as they are so far behind on other surgery. They class Bariatric surgery as non urgent
  5. I’m currently taking THC gummies to help with insomnia. I researched the effects of THC and CBD on Bariatric patients before I started and studies show it has no negative effects on weight loss. I originally tried CBD gummies and they made me feel super alert, like I drank coffee. I was up until 5:00am! The THC gummies are Delta 8 strain, 20 mg per gummy. I take one and it works within one hour and helps me relax and sleep deeply. I don’t like how I feel afterwards, kinda zombie brained. I only take it about twice per week.

    Gastric balloon newbie

hi, the procedure was done in Mons, Belgium on May 16th. I lost 2 kg with the pre-op diet. First week was very hard with lots of vomiting, sleeping in sitting position. i have to admit the 2nd day i felt so bad that i was thinking why did i do this to myself? i ate liquid for one week. then one week pureed foods. i got bariatrics vitamins cause i felt weak. Drinking enough is a full day job. i took two weeks off work to recover. After 2 weeks i went back to gym, twice a week. i lost a lot of muscle in my arms and legs despite daily protein included in my meals. when i eat too quickly i get sick. i stuck to my diet, i weigh my proteins. i dont feel hungry and learned hunger is very mental. i lost 12 kg since the surgery, one clothes size and two bra sizes. i feel younger, more active. i have less pain in my joints and arrived to run one minute on treadmill. i started to incorporate daily pilates exercises to tone up. i had the spatz balloon and will keep it for 12 months. for the moment i dont regret at all
  7. I went through Blossom Bariatrics in Las Vegas I paid $18,500 but my insurance covered ZERO. If your insurance covers out-of-network outpatient then you;'ll probably pay half of that. It was the most wonderful experience of my life. We got to spend 6 days in a nice hotel in vegas so it really was a vacation aside from surgery day and the day after...

    Advice and encouragement

Many people think they are a "slow loser" but in fact they just have unrealistic expectations from shows like My 600 Lb Life, which features people who lose "fast" because they are much bigger than your average WLS patient. You may still be a slow loser; I can't tell how much of your 33 lb weight loss was before surgery, but I lost about 9 lbs on average per month for the first 6 months after surgery, and my surgery center said I was doing great! Try to focus on things you can control, like eating and drinking and exercising the way your surgery center recommended, and don't worry about the scale. You might also focus on how your clothes fit or other "non-scale victories". You might also consider reaching out to your surgery center to make sure you're on track, and consider seeing a bariatric therapist. Good luck!
  9. If it's only going to be a few weeks it really won't matter which vitamin you take - it really takes a while for any deficiencies to be an issue. Also, not sure what you mean by vitamins being "prescription". You can order pro-care health, celebrate, etc just online... you don't need a prescription! Maybe if you want insurance to pay for them you need a scrip? Pro-Care Health is cheaper if you order directly from them than Amazon. I also use Celebrate (smell less bad) and the generic one-a-day women's with iron, because the bariatric ones make me very nauseous and sometimes I throw up.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

Congrats on your wl, you are doing great. I’m 7 months post bariatric revision and have lost 79lbs to date. I’m officially stalling been 180-181 for almost 3 weeks now. This is longest stall I’ve had and starting to wonder if I’m done losing?? Got a couple more months to go to reach a year and my projected wl is 100lbs.. I hope this stall breaks this week!!!
  11. Probably not going to get around that. I have thought about that too since my state excludes all bariatric surgery. and i am hoping i never have heart burn issues but if i ever needed a revision to bypass my plan would be to move to another state temporarily, Set up residency, Get insurance, Get the procedure done and move back. Yea lots of work but $20K+ for revision is too high for most people to pay out of pocket. I paid $19K for my sleeve out of pocket andi am out of money lol
  12. of course. Any store, Walmart, GNC ect... They do have bariatric vitamins but you can also get the regular stuff as well just simply take 2 or so. My surgeon said if i got the regular ones to take 2 a day. If i got the bariatric to take 1 a day. as for cacium there are tons out there. The citrate is best for absorption but the pills tend to be on the big size.
  13. I today ran out of my vitamin starter pack from my Dr. I plan on ordering a package plan around the 5th of July (waiting for payday). I am not sure why or how I waited so long to get more. 🙄 So my problem is I need to get something that I can take for a week or two until my bariatric vitamins come in. Does anyone know how I might can find something? Thank You, Tracy (RNY gastric bypass 5/23/22)
  14. Hello! Has anyone ever been able to get a conversion surgery approved on an insurance that has a "once per lifetime max" on bariatric surgery? I had the sleeve in 2018 and now suffer from severe GERD/acid reflux. No meds are taking care of it. The insurance has denied the claim once already because its not "medically necessary". Anyone know of tips or tricks?
  15. Hello and welcome to the bariatric life. I'm Kim, 38 no kids. From MD. You will find lots of helpful stuff on here and maybe some not so helpful stuff. (haha) Overall, I had a lot of questions answers just by reading everything when I first started the WLS process.
  16. Hi there Im just starting my bariatric surgery diet. It is something I have wanted for a while, but just recently got the courage to go through with it. It will probably still be a few more months out, but I'd love to make new friends that I can experience this journey with! I'm 36 with a 6 year old and a 1 year old.

    Stall out and depressed

That definitely makes me want to contact them. That's interesting. I know there are these like "resets" you can do but I haven't heard much in the way of efficacy about them. I really do love my dietician, I should just send her a message. I guess lately I've felt disconnected from my bariatric journey because of the stall. Maybe the honeymoon phase is wearing off or I am just depressed. I don't know. What an odd experience but I'm glad I have a place here where we're all familiar with it. Thank you for your kind words.
  18. You are right to be looking around for second and third opinions when contemplating a repair and possible revision with a higher than average complexity. If indeed you are in the "gained it all back, plus" camp, then the traditional RNY fixed probably won't be strong enough to do the job, and adding in the hernia and additional scaring compounds things. The surgeon I would suggest looking into would be Ara Keshishian, who is in the Glendale/Pasadena area of So Cal. He is one of the handful of surgeons who can do the complex RNY/DS conversion, should that me necessary, and I have seen some on these forums who have had some fairly involved RNY reworks from him (though his preference is usually to go for the DS if it makes sense.) Rumor has it that he isn't dealing with insurance anymore (haven't verified that, though,) so if that is an issue, another good choice to talk to would be John Rabkin in SF, who is similarly qualified in complex procedures., As both have long drawn patients from around the country (and beyond) they have long routinely been able to do their early screening discussions and longer term follow ups remotely. Another doc I would talk to if you want to look East would be Mitchell Roslin in NYC; he also seems to have a very deep toolkit, capable of doing a number of different procedures as appropriate Most bariatric surgeons are pretty good at doing RNYs and variations of that, but don't go very far beyond that, and it sounds like you need someone with rather broad (and deep) skills to get what you need. Good luck,,,,

    Really this many pills!?

I agree with others that some could be combined or changed: -Combine B vitamins, iron, and multivitamin into a single Bariatric vitamin. -Calcium with Vitamin D can be taken as a liquid, and also as chews (yum) For supplements only, I take 5 items a day (3 pills and 2 chews). Nice!
  20. Doesn’t look like Renew Bariatrics does the mini gastric bypass. If any of you had this procedure in Mexico, where did you go?

    YAY

I made a comment a while ago that it is amazing how as you gain weight you don't notice all the negative changes to your body but when you loose the weight you notice EVERY TINY CHANGE! My knees no longer grind when walking up steps. My feet and ankles don't swell up when walking around or being on them for a period of time. I get up from sitting much easier. I walked around all day (9 hours) at the amusement park and didn't really get worn out or "ready to go" in a few hours. I fit into smaller booth seats at restaurants, and don't worry about specifically asking for a table. Gezz, the list could go on and on! I need to remeasure myself because I see a huge difference. Even my shoes are loose. I went from a 4x shirt to a 1x or 2x depending on the cut. Size 26 jeans down to a size 20, which is loose. Flip side, so many almost new expensive clothes to donation! Three trash bags already and I need to go through my shirts tonight! We really need to find a way to do a clothing exchange for bariatric patients.

    RNY foodies?

the food restrictions and only being able to handle a couple of tablespoons of food at a sitting is temporary - a few months at best. Once you're about six months out, all food restrictions are lifted - it'll be more a matter of moderation, plus what your sleeve or pouch will tolerate. at seven years out (and actually, for quite a long time), no one would be able to tell I had bariatric surgery by the way I eat. I'd probably be considered a "light eater" - and I really don't eat any differently than many of my never-been-obese women friends. When I go out - I'll order an appetizer. Or order an entree and take half of it home. so yes - after the initial few months, you should be able to indulge in your passion again. You'll just have to do it in moderation and watch your portion sizes.
