Worried about the possibility of insurance denial?
liveaboard15 replied to raspberrylime's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my insurance wont cover anything bariatric at all. So i was self pay. That really sucked when it came down to pay so i hope you get covered and you probably will -
Does bariastic offer anything MFP doesn’t? I used MFP in the past so I’m inclined to use it again. Unless the other one offers something specific to the bariatric surgery journey

I only take Bariatric Choice Once Daily Bariatric Multivitamin Capsule with 45 mg of Iron and Spring Valley Calcium Citrate Dietary Supplement, 600 mg. So far so good but I have only had my 3 month blood work and only 4 months post op.

BariatricPal multivitamin One annual subscription is the best priced bariatric multivitamin. I also love BariatricPal calcium chews (French vanilla caramel and Belgian chocolate caramel) — they taste like candy! I get NatureMade sublingual B12 (cherry flavor) and Natrol D3 and biotin (strawberry flavor) from Amazon.

Severe Depression during pre-op diet- NORMAL?
Smanky replied to jessk0560's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The pre-op diet is absolutely the worst bit. No one enjoys it, but it's thankfully brief, even though it doesn't feel like it in that first week! Bear in mind that you're likely going through some manner of food withdrawal, which always hits the emotions. Anxiety is also normal before any surgery, even when it's not your first time - but as Catwoman said, you'll be fine! This is a safe surgery and you'll be in good hands. There's a whole team in the theatre with you dedicated to keeping you safe. Echoing Arabesque's recommendation of getting a bariatric therapist to talk to. Managing this now will help you post surgery. The first couple of months can also be challenging, especially for folks with emotional attachments to food. -
Wow! One month of liquid diet?! You can do it!!! Are you able to incorporate greek yogurt during this time? It was a life-saver for me during my liquid diet prior to my gastric sleeve surgery. I’m scheduled for a revision to RNY on August 8th so I start my liquid diet on Monday July 25th. I see my nutritionist at the bariatric center this morning to go over dietary requirements for RNY. I’m not nervous about the surgery since I’ve already had one bariatric procedure and did just fine. I just remember struggling some during the liquid diet. It can be tough but will be sooo worth it! 😁👍🏻

Congrats on your smooth recovery so far! PS: Those Bariatric Advantage chews are disgusting. Actually, i tried muleiple brands. They are are unbearable, for me anyway. I know some people like the Bariatric fusion brand. They were the best of the worse for me. I still couldn't stomach them daily. Luckily I was cleared for pills and large capsules at 2 weeks. Good luck, I hope you find something you like.

Day 7 po and I'm honestly feeling great! No real pain issues outside of the expected soreness from internal and external incisions. I've not had any issues so far in meeting my water intake, thankfully. I actually went to the grocery store by myself yesterday for a short trip to buy ingredients for soup. No issues at all! I made soup, and a big mess, and cleaned it up afterwards, putting away the dishes from.the dishwasher and washing the dirty dishes. Even vacuumed the kitchen (we have a lightweight stick). After all was said and done I quickly fell asleep in the recliner for about 90 minutes or so LOL! I have been taking the BariatricPal multivitamin, which is SO much easier than the other forms, plus I take additional Thiamin, B12, and C. Haven't been able to take the calcium yet because they are just too big, but I purchased some Bariatric Advantage chews that will hopefully come on a day or two. I've already lost 13 lbs since surgery; this morning I weighed in at 245.6, and my goal weight is 175. It is in sight and have zero regrets! Sent from my SM-S908U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

3 Weeks Post Op Need some help/advice/encouragement...
toodlerue replied to jojolynn73's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had a bypass for sever GRED also. I felt the same way that I had made a big mistake those 1st few weeks. Even though it’s done laparoscopically, it’s still a MAJOR surgery. I had a Fundalipacation 12 years prior to fix the GERD it eventually failed & my esophagus was now in an L shape so 1/2 of it wasn’t where it was supposed to be. My insurance covered it but I went to who they recommended (wish I would have known better). He is a great Thorasic surgeon but he’s not a bariatric surgeon. He told me to get all my info off of the internet 🙄 so I pieced together my own eating plan for the 1st 6-8 weeks. He did tell me that I would have to take a PPI for the rest of my life. -
I have questions about hair loss
catwoman7 replied to Jennycharles2022's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
hair loss is super common after bariatric surgery (actually, it can be a side effect of ANY major surgery because of trauma to the body - but I think we see it more after bariatric surgery because in addition to surgery trauma, we're also taking in very few calories those first few months) I had it from months 5-9, but fortunately, I didn't lose very much. I doubt anyone noticed besides me. about the only thing you can do is keep on top of your vitamins and protein to keep it from getting any worse that it would otherwise. Some people swear by things like biotin, but others say it did nothing for them, so.... -
I was wondering if anyone after bariatric surgery had problems with the hair loss I am 9 months old and I'm still losing hair and I don't know if there's anything I can do for it Sent from my moto g pure using BariatricPal mobile app

One of the reasons I finally committed to surgery was the crippling, crushing lower back pain I was experiencing. I couldn’t work any longer. I literally couldn’t stand for more than a few minutes before surgery. I was basically trapped at home. I was fervently hoping that the pain would improve and I could go back to work after surgery. I've lost 75 lbs since I started the bariatric pre-op process, 25 of that since my surgery at the end of May. And the past two weeks? The pain is gone! I still get tired easily and I'm not running around by any means but I can walk through a store now or stand in line at a register and I just called work and told them I'll be back in September! I can't wait to go back. I have a long way to go but this alone makes the surgery worth it. Just wanted to share my good news. Anyone else experience a rapid reduction in back pain?

I wanted to give an update since I'm almost a week past surgery. I've had my days of feeling like I'd made a huge mistake. I've had to have IV infusion of fluid already and I've had other issues that have made me highly emotional. I can't say I won't have a few more emotional days or that I won't have any more issues but I'm feeling like I might be ok. I think I probably had a dumping episode and that scares me because I think I drank too much protein drink at one half hour sitting (6 oz). I suddenly had diarrhea and didn't make it to the toilet before it started. I pray that this is not going to be a normal thing cuz I won't accept that but I feel like If I really only take in 2-4 ounces within 1/2 hour I should be ok. Other than this, I feel very hopeful. My pain meds are 2 Tylenol occasionally. I've suddenly developed high blood pressure but I'm sure that will resolve when pain and concern are resolved. I do have a new prescription for HBP though I want to get off all meds. I'm starting to have cravings for hummus. Someone had a topic about hummus and now I want some. Bottom line, like I have read before...If anyone feels they made a mistake, hang in there, trust the process. Change up what you bought too much of or order a different source of protein (I can't do shakes all the time so I ordered soups and warm drinks like Pumpkin Spiced Latte from Bariatric Pal Store). This will get better and you won't feel shaky and weak. You will have energy and want to do more than sleep until its over. I'm looking forward to next week when I can actually have some hummus.

I have, and this is what was recommended to me by my team. Also, I should note that we were highly encouraged not to use "vitamin gummies, patches, doTerra supplements, extended-release formulas, Tespo pods, gel caps, or vitamin capsules" and are not recommended. We even had to sign off on a form stating that we won't use them due to they don't accurately carry all the nutrients they say they have in them. Ask your doctor if it's okay for you to use though, worth asking. With that being said this is what I have purchased off amazon and all that was recommended to me: Bariatric Advantage - Calcium Citrate Chewable (500mg) Wild Cherry, 270 Count Tablets $72.80 ( 3x daily) Bariatric Advantage - Ultra Solo Once-Per-Day Mutivitamin (Capsules Without Iron, 90 Count) $66.30 (1 daily) Bariatric Advantage Iron Chewy Bite Chocolate Raspberry Truffle (30 mg iron, 60 mg vitamin c) 30 count $20.80 (1 nightly- not to take within two hours of any dairy products, calcium supplements, coffee or tea. ) Bariatric Advantage B-12 Speedy Melts (Black Cherry, 90 Count) $23.40 ( will take once a week) I'm not quite sure why they have you do the multivitamin without Iron when you end up taking the iron but I tend to follow directions to a T. Hope this helps!

Guys, have any of you already purchase bariatric specific vitamins? Right now I'm taking Centrum women's 1 a day and a different brand D3 and B12. I have deficiencies in both. But my doctor said no to the Centrum...I like gummies because I have a hard time swallowing the larger pills. Any suggestions?

Trying to get out of my head....
Mamasita2022 replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's so hard isn't it! I'm glad you found a therapist, because it is absolutely a control issue. I would also suggest a different lunch. You could mix the hummus with greek yogurt for example, it would up the protein and volume and actual work on the hunger part. Your daily intake definitely doesn't look like enough for 2 workouts a day! I've printed out lists of protein snacks so that I can choose a higher protein=y option. If you will focus on anything, focus on your water and protein numbers to start. Another thought - are you taking anti-acids or ppis? If I don't take mine, I feel like I'm ravenous all day. I've read that the acidity causes our brain's response to make us feel like we are hungry. Finally, my loss is exactly like yours. down a bit... waits a bit... down a bit... waits a bit. I feel like I only "lose" every 10 days or so. It's bizarre! oh, and finally for sure On FB there's a group called Bariatric Beast. It's tough love but I've found the most direct and straightforward support there. No waffling hehehehe. Might be worth a look. Girl - YOU GOT THIS! -
Yeah, I have regained 10-15 pounds from my lowest, and it scares the crap out of me. But I have to admit my face looks a little less ghoulish. I am probably pretty lucky in that I don't have a wattle from losing my double chin (I'm also pleasantly surprised by how decent my arms look; I'm not wearing tank tops in public or anything, but I'm also not needing an arm lift). We've all seen people who have gone through this surgery and gained back most or all of the weight, and I'm terrified that if I take my eye off the prize, that will be me. I don't know if my rebound is from the malabsorption wearing off or because I've relaxed too much about food, but I don't like where I'm headed and I feel like I need to be more vigilant than ever. I've tried two therapists and they were no help at all... Unfortunately, it is really hard to find therapists who understand the struggles of bariatric patients.

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery! It sounds like you’re prepared and have a wonderful support system. I had a gastric sleeve done 18 months ago but am now getting ready to have a revision (gastric bypass) on August 8th due to severe GERD. I wish I would have just had the bypass instead! Going through the two weeks of liquid diet can be tough but just keep your eyes on the prize! Swanson sipping bone broth is great to have on hand before and after surgery since it has a lot of protein. Remember to sip, sip, sip your water constantly after your surgery and get your bariatric vitamins ready (I take Barimelts.) I’ve rewatched a LOT of YouTube videos in preparation for my surgery; they’re very helpful and motivating. I know you’re going to do well! Be sure to keep us all updated! Best wishes!😁

Aaand here was go again round 2- 20 years later
Sunnyway replied to Ethel6's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had RNY in 1990 and regained all I lost. I always blamed myself but now know that the surgery failed due to a fistula between pouch and stomach. I didn't know that revision was even possible until 2020, just before the pandemic struck. I started the bariatric program in early 2021. I discovered that I am a food addict with trigger foods: sugar, wheat flour, rice, white potatoes, and processed food. I cut out those foods and the result was fantastic! I lost 70 lbs prior to surgery. Despite this success, I went ahead with laparoscopic revision surgery on 12/21/21 at age 73. I weighed 247 at the time of surgery, down from 317. Unfortunately, I fell in that very tiny group of bariatric surgical patients that develop serious complications. Ten days after my revision surgery, I was airlifted back to the hospital with peritonitis and sepsis, caused by a rupture of the jejunum below the anastomosis. I was hospitalized for 7 weeks and underwent three endoscopic procedures and two open surgeries before they finally found and corrected a residual abscess. I left the hospital with a 15-cm long open surgical wound, which took 8 more weeks to fully close. I am now fully recovered and am back to exercising daily. The endoscopic procedures stretched the new anastomosis so I have no more restriction than I had pre-surgery, so I still have to be very careful about what I consume. I typically go through month-long stalls and then drop a few pounds. I do lose inches during the stalls. I've dropped from size 32/4X to size 20/XL and now weigh 214 lbs., just past the 100 lb loss mark. After being on a restricted diet for over 16 months I struggle with near-irresistible cravings in the afternoon and evenings. The clinic wants me to limit intake to 800 calories. 😱 It is daunting because I know I will never be able to go on a "maintenance" diet and must continue to avoid my trigger foods forever. Even when I choose protein snacks in response to cravings, each snack adds 100 or more calories to the daily total so my daily calorie count is between 900-1200 calories. (I will gain weight at 1500 calories.) I've done a trial of weight loss drug CONTRAVE but had to discontinue due to side effects. This is a horror story, but don't let it dissuade you from your revision. Complications are extremely rare. -

I figured out how to do this finally. 1. On the Bariatric Pal website, sign off. 2. Intiate the sign on process but select the Forgot Password link. 3. Follow the process to reset (in my case, ceate) a password. This should be the same whether you registered with your Google, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn or Twitter account. Trying to get out of my head....
loli_lotus replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No, I'm scheduled for sleeve in September, the 55lbs is total loss from my highest weight over the last 4 years with the last 10lbs being since my first meeting with the surgeon in April and trying to eat in a more "bariatric style" mindset, therapy, and more exercise. -
Hello everyone, I’m two months post op and I’m having a lot of trouble getting any food/liquid to stay in my system. I have tried just about everything and nothing seems to sit well with my stomach. From clear protein, protein shakes, jello, beans, soups, and much more. Some days I only get some water in and throw up everything else, other days I can keep down just a tiny bit of the protein. I’ve also tried spacing out my intake and drinking slowly and taking tiny sips or bites but nothing seems to work. I’m starting to get really worried because I’m feeling more nauseous than before. And I’ve recently started to get light headed and almost fainted today. Unfortunately my bariatric doctor is out for the next two weeks. Should I just go to a regular physician or clinic? Will they be able to help? I’m a bit hesitant since I’m so comfortable with my surgeon but I don’t think I should wait two weeks either. I may be overthinking going to another doctor

Answers Please -gastric sleeve and hernia repair
summerseeker replied to fed-up's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It cost me £150 to see the surgeon for initial chat Then £150 for dietician and bariatric nurse chat Then £150 for psych evaluation rip off Then another £150 to see surgeon to set date Then it cost £10, 999 for operation package which includes 2 years follow up with dietician. I had to stay in 5 extra days at no extra cost -
Three years ago I was revised from VSG to RNY for GERD. I’m very pleased that I am still GERD free and no new problems (let’s hope it stays that way) Everything feels very normal now and I can barely feel any major difference from VSG let alone life prior to WLS. I know it’s different but I’ve settled in. I moved early 2021 so I’m establishing care with a new bariatric practice for continued yearly monitoring/testing. I don’t see a lot of revision postings by anyone as far out as I am, so if anyone is out there please let all know how it’s going and if anyone has questions feel free to ask ❤️

I have never lost a lot of weight before… so I hope it will be obvious;). I won’t care after it’s done telling people - just afraid of telling people before for some reason. Maybe it’s because I came close once before and the opportunity was taken from me (soap opera story) and I am scared this time something will happen again. I have insurance coverage for bariatrics this time so it should happen! I know I will need to say something for the time off after surgery so people will know by the time I have the date. I just don’t know when right now. I will have to go through an endoscopy in august, maybe then.
