My first major NSV post surgery!
TristanNicole replied to Sajijoma's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had my first NSV this week as well. We went to a college basketball game, I had been in the arena before and felt very crowded and stuffed into the seat, this week I sat down and slide right in, didn't feel stuffed at all, it was so nice and made the time so much more enjoyable! -
One thing I love to do is go to candlelight church service on Christmas Eve; however, I haven't had a pair of pants that fit me in over a year. I have been too proud to buy bigger (actually much bigger) pants, so I thought I would just wait it out until I lost enough weight to fit into my smaller pants. Well, I didn't think it would happen this fast, but now only 4 weeks post-op I am again able to fit into my pants which were 8 sizes too small just 4 weeks ago!!!! YAY!!! I am so happy!!!

While Christmas shopping last night with the hubby I saw a sweater that caught my eye. It was in an expensive store with an expensive price tag. I had previously made the decision to NOT buy any clothing (except from goodwill or cheap resale shops) while I lose weight. This is important to me since I am only a month out and 1) I wasn't sure I've lost enough to need new clothes and 2) What's the point of spending now when I plan to lose weight for several more months. So I walked with this sweater (regular ladies size xl) for like an hour (normally I am a 2x). I just wouldn't put it down. I finally found my husband and asked him to hold my stuff so I could try it on over my existing shirt. I pulled it over my head and before I even had it pulled down I was like "nope to small still". It wasn't even on yet and I was shooting it down. I finished pulling it down and it fit. Nicely. And my husband said "honey, that's definitely not to small, but it sure is ugly". LOL. I couldn't help but burst out laughing. I never did look in the mirror but he never says things like that so it must have been bad! Either way I felt good. I'm still chuckling.

Way back when I was pregnant, I bemoaned the fact that I never looked that way because my boobs stuck out further, not by much, but they did. ...now if I had just reminded myself to reverse that situation after the birth! That is a terrific NSV. Congrats!

Kindle replied to MsCyrus's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Go ahead and compare to me.... You won't be disappointed. 5 days up 11 pounds from surgery day. 11 days Weighed the same as surgery day. 6 weeks postp lost 17 pounds 7 weeks gained 3 pounds 10 weeks back to 17 pounds lost 12 weeks lost 25 pounds postop. As you can see, stalls and even gains are normal. Also notice that I only weighed myself 6 times in the first 3 months. scale numbers DO NOT MATTER. Just stay on plan, STAY OFF THE SCALE, embrace the NSVs and have fun!!!! -

@@Sajijoma - NSVs like that are my FAVORITES! Hang on to 1 pair to look at, when you are having "a moment". -
That dreaded moment you are told you need to come to the trauma center to meet your spouse. It has been a rough couple of days. Hubby broke his C2 vertebrate which is right up underneath your skull. We are so blessed that he is not paralized. We spent days on the nuerology floor at our local trauma center. I didn't grab my vitamens or protien drinks (only 4 weeks post op)....I ate mushy protiens at the hosptial and took lots of walks to help with the stress. I know my vitaman levels will be a mess later this week at the dr, but I am proud of my self for not turning to food in a time where no one could blame me for doing it. Total NSV!

i hope all is well and you two are both able to recover fully. God for you for making things count during this hard time. I wish you and your hubby nothing but the best of luck and healing! i Hope he feels better soon. Glad theres no lasting damage at this point. Kudos to you and to him!
-
I am so sorry to hear about this; however, I am very happy to hear that he will not be paralyzed. I am definitely sending thoughts and prayers your way. And it is inspiring to see that you found a positive in this situation! Take care of that spouse of yours!

Sorry you are having to go through this so soon post op, and sorry you have to go through it at all. Best of luck to him, and you on both of your recoveries.

I had rny on Nov 9th and as of today(yesterday actually) my pants that were a laughing stock and wouldn't go over my knees are now on my waist and closed! I tried them on last week and I could get them up but not closed and this week, they are closed! So excited! I changed out all of my clothes in my closet too and bagged and tagged the old stuff that is too big for the Goodwill! I have lost 1 pant size and 2 top sizes now! It's starting to get exciting!!! ☺️

Definitely an NSV! Definitely an NSV! -
Today I got on the scale and it said 242. I've officially lost 100 lbs. I feel so good and it seemed like it took forever. I started this journey at 342 lbs, surgery date 4/8/15 and now 8 months later I'm at 242. I still have 62 lbs till I get to my doctors goal of 180 lbs, but I'm gonna listen to what you all said from my earlier post and stick to the plan...Oh yeah, and today I also got a NSV to share. I went to pump gas this morning on my way to work and this guy pulled up next to me and said, "Hey, Gorgeous!" Wow it has been years since a man has actually noticed me...I didn't know what to say so I just gave an awkward wave and he drove off...I felt so embarrassed but blushing at the same time. So I got a scale victory and a NSV!!! Woohoo!!!

(is your sis on the board too??) both of you keep up the great job kathy congrats -
LOVE this topic!! I am about 7 months post-op, but I created a NSVs wish-list when I was pre-op. Here is the list and how I am doing so far ... 1. Weigh less than my husband DONE! 2. Wear something in a smaller size than when I graduated HS (20+ years ago) DONE! 3. Give away all clothing that starts with a #2 (28, 26, etc) DONE! 4. Shop in something other than a plus store/department .... Kind of for jeans that I like, but not for long as they are now getting baggy in the butt! 5. Buy/wear tall boots DONE! And Skinny jeans too! 6. Buy/Wear a "little black dress" and actually have it be little 7. Walk more than a mile without being breathless DONE! I am now walking 5K races. 8. Fly without needing a seat belt extender .... Hopefully when we go on vaca! 9. Go parasailing ... This summer, for sure! 10. Go mountain biking ... as soon as the weather is nice enough! One that was not on my list, but just recently happened ... being called "skinny"!! Totally loved it, although I do not consider myself skinny.

Oh How Things Have Changed

That is a great NSV! I do the same thing with Junior dresses, especially the sweater types - I wear them as tunics over legging or skinny pants. I get so many compliments on that "look". -

Good for you. These NSV continue to make me emotional too. My favorite one has been when the hubby puts his arms completely around me. Who knew a hug was so GREAT!!! -
NSV Moment..
WLSResources/ClothingExch replied to smcbee79's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This NSV goes deeper than you realize just yet. The fact that you so fully appreciated it, all the way to an emotional response, is golden. You'll have many more. -
Yesterday I went for a 1 mile walk. Then a few hours later I took my 2 year old niece for about a 1/4 mile walk around our subdivision to look at lights. She was waving and blowing kisses to all the blow up characters. When I got home I cried. 3 months ago I never would have entertained doing something like this because I would have been so tired and wouldn't have had the energy. Last night have me more motivation to keep pushing forward because that simple walk told me if I don't succeed I am going to be missing out on a lot of awsome things. We have a littlw ice cream parlor that is only open during summer and I need to get ready to take my baby girl for walks ao she can get her ice cream cones this summer

My first NSV happened this past weekend. I was at my grandparents house and sat down in their dining room table chairs and where normally my butt would have spilled over on both sides, I had a good 2 inches to spare. I audibly said, "omg wow!" haha I wasn't expecting it, and it was great.

I'm a year out and almost at maintenance but a NSV for me is when a football announcer says "Boy that tight-end is a big guy, 6'3" 240lbs" and I no longer have to inwardly cringe because I weigh more than him. Another one is just that feeling of roomy clothes, that used to be too tight, sliding over your skin because they're now loose instead of tight.

I'm four days preop, and I've been thinking about non-scale victories (NSVs) that I'm looking forward to. Here's my top 10 list. I'll come back and update the list as I accomplish each one. What's on your NSV wish list? 1. Shop for clothes in the "misses" or "juniors" part of the store 2. Cross my legs when sitting in a chair 3. Go at least two hours without thinking about food at all 4. Make exercise a daily habit 5. Get rid of every scrap of clothing over a size 12 in my closet 6. Climb stairs without losing my breath 7. Buy sexy underwear 8. Wear sexy underwear in front of my husband 9. Go indoor rock climbing 10. Go indoor skydiving (Yes, I'm a wimp!)

Hard to believe it's almost been twenty weeks since my surgery and I am down 99.2 lbs from my high weight prior to the pre-op diet! I am having a hard time with food, as more and more things seem to upset my stomach. I still do best with rare and raw meats, but how much carpaccio and sashimi can you eat before you can't stand it anymore? I even purchased a meat grinder to start grinding my own fresh meat to make raw kibbeh and beef tartare! I know many find the thought of raw beef overwhelming but it sits best n my stomach and any day I can avoid returning my food is a victory. My surgeon says that this stage will last a month or two more, and I can't wait until I can eat a greater variety of things. Lots of NSVs the past few weeks. I have dropped over 10 inches in pants waist sizes and I'm now using L shirts and they fit loosely! I get pulled aside at work all the time by people telling me how great I look after the weight loss. I did this to be healthy again, but the positive reinforcement is wonderful! I am having trouble however keeping up with my exercises. I have gone from 7 days a week to 3 but I've added strength training with resistance bands in addition to my cardio work out. I actually feel guilty when I go two or three days without exercise! Now I just need to turn my guilt to action and get back to a good exercise rhythm. I also can't shake my compulsion to weigh daily. I am dutifully recording what I eat on myfitnesspal.com and that seems to ease my obsession with weight and I recently went away for a week and did not weigh myself but right after I came back I'm at it again daily!☹️ Life is good right now and I am still really happy I did this. My wife remains my biggest fan and supporter and I know that I could not have come as far as I have without her! Tomorrow I have my monthly check in with my nutritionist and we'll see how that goes. She is co concerned that my weight loss is too fast and I may be losing more muscle mass than she'd like. We'll see what she says tomorrow. I am happy with the weight loss and know that I am in better shape now than I have been in many years.

Size 14 is one of my dream NSVs! I was that big when I met my husband 34 years ago and haven't looked back since. I really, really want to walk into a "regular" store and take advantage of the sales that are always so much better than the ones offered for plus sizes. You are amazing! You must be so happy.

Great gift for Christmas! Size 14. NSV
