  1. Yep head hunger. Eat sf popsicles. It will help with your fluid intake, but yet you'll feel like you're eating something. BTW, i can't believe you can even eat anything other than clears! I know all doctors have different diets, but my tummy wouldn't even allow me to hardly try jello. If i would've tried greek yogurt, i know it wouldn't have stayed down. Don't force yourself to eat if you can't. Concentrate on your fluids right now.

    Need to eat!

That is surprising. I am a week post surgery and I can have Protein drinks, milk, cream-based Soups, greek yogurt, sugar free Jello or popsicles and Water, water, water (can be mixed with crystal light). The Protein Drinks that I am drinking have 28 grams of protein each so I drink 2 a day and then have greek yogurt and Soup broth. I can't have food (chicken, fish pureed) until day 15. It's interesting to see the differences.
  3. I feel you. I'm almost 4 months out and the past 2-3 weeks I've gotten so lazy with my tracking. I haven't gained anything but I do notice it's easier to eat more now. So I started today, back to basics. I've been chugging my Water today, eating my yogurts and getting in my Protein. I also went back to the gym. You can do it, just have to make up your mind to. Stop the grazing, schedule your eating. I'm doing 3 meals and 2 planned Snacks. I think that's pretty important, plan it so you avoid grazing. Make sure you are feeling real hunger too and not that damn head hunger crap. You can do it! I don't think you stretched anything out, test it by eating some meat first, no veggies or bread and I'm betting you can still only eat maybe 4-5 ounces and be full. Good luck!

    Everything tastes gross!

Whatever you do, make sure you do your best to stay hydrated and get in all of your Protein. Even if you have to do more liquids than soft foods. Have you tried tiny bites of soft foods like Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, refried Beans, etc. Try small amounts of one food at a time.
  5. Massively struggling with my one week pre op diet! Only on day 2! It comprises of one litre of semi skimmed milk, two low fat yogurts and then water or decaf tea/ coffee oh and u can have one bovril drink, but that's it! My dog is looking so yummy right now! And I have to work and I'm probably going to murder my husband, bring on 24/4/12! I should be happy I only have to endure it for one week! B x
  6. Yester day, August 30th I went to the surgeons office. When I was weighed I had lost 24 pounds. The nurse was very excited about that. When the Doctor came in he started to look at my chart and said do you know how much you have lost? I told him yes, but that I did lose some of the weight prior to surgery as I had cut back on my carbs and had been walking 2 miles on my treadmill. I probably had lost 10 pounds from May until my August 17th surgery. While I was there he took off my steri strips that had been covering my incisions. He said I was healing very well. I am happy anyway for the 24# loss. I am scheduled to go back to him on Sept. 12. He told me I could eat anything you would feed a baby. So I had a cup of clam chowder last evening. Yogurt fro breakfast as usual.

    Feeling scared

Beware.....scolding in progress. Here's the thing, you just had major surgery on your stomach. No matter how bad the head hunger is, do you really think eating chocolate at all is wise a few days after surgery? I am guessing your answer is no or you would not be on here in scared mode. Honestly you should be scared. You should pick up the phone and immediately call your therapist. Having WLS is 90% head, 10% if that surgery. You can eat around your surgery from day one. and if you do, why bother going through all the pre work and pain? That is called self destruction and you need to get a handle on it now. For me, sugars cravings have never gone away. I have had to learn to deal with this. Sometimes you give in and have something but never ever just when you get home from the hospital. Lastly I would say that baby food does not have the nutrition that homemade prepared purees have. Not to mention they taste like crap unless you are eating all the fruits which have carbs in them. Why not simply make some of your own purees, eat greek yogurt, cottage cheese, Protein shakes, ricotta bake. There are a ton of bariatric friendly pureed stage options available on pinterest. I really wish you the best but you are definately going to need some help to get your head hunger under control. When those cravings come up the best thing you can do is try to get your mind off of it. Firstly, you cannot possibly be feeling real hunger at this stage. Dehydration mimics hunger for us. So if you feel it keep sipping your approved liquids until that feeling goes away. If you have met your liquid goals and still feel that way, you are likely feeling some reflux if you are a sleeve patient. If not those two things it is definately head hunger and you need some coping mechanisms. I use distraction techniques....go wash dishes, do some laundry, take a shower, do something with your hands like crafts - knitting, crocheting....etc. get your mind off of food. Lastly do NOT watch food porn shows or commercials, they can make head hunger terrible. Go see a therapist they will provide lost of techniques and get at the bottom of why you are already self sabotaging.
  8. Hello... I am post-op day 12, so I'm close by! My doctor recommended Dannon Light & Fit yogurt. I chose to stay away from fruit flavored incase there were any chunks. It has about 60 calories, and although there is fructose, it is not one of the first few ingredients. Good luck!
  9. Hello :-) I'm on the pre-op diet and my diet is a Protein drink for bfast & lunch, with a lean meat/veggies for dinner. I can snack on a piece of low fat cheese or light yogurt. I'm on my fourth day and I'm doing ok. Not sure if I'm just second guessing myself, but its not that bad. I've found that my Protein Drink tastes pretty good with mio in it, I tried the chocolate dream powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury in fat free milk this morning (it was yummy) and my snack has been Greek yogurt (which I don't like plain) with fat free sugar free powder pudding added. I guess I thought I'd feel miserable, but I don't. I thought the food would be horrible (I'm a very picky eater) and its not. Has anyone else experienced this 'this isn't so bad' realization? I'm looking forward to the surgery...the 20th can't come soon enough :-) P.S. I love reading everyone's stories...they are true inspirations...keep up the GREAT work!!!

    Hair Is Falling Out!

I had surgery 4/9/2012, I was terriried that my hair would fall out. My doctor's office could not stress enough that if you get your protein minimum 64 grams/day you will not loose your hair. I make sure that I get about 80 grams of protein a day buy drinking 64 grms in a protein shake, cottage cheese and yogurt. I have not noticed any hair loss what so ever. I also take the Botin as my doctors suggested. Please up your protein and start taking Biotin it will help.

Am I Being A Pig Already?

I'm the same. Liquids go down really easy. That includes pureed/liquified foods. I can eat 4oz probably 6oz if I tried of yogurt. I'm almost 3 weeks out. I really trying not to push myself though. Even though I know I can eat more of these mushee foods I try to limit myself at one sitting. Something I noticed I can't eat really is mushy potatoes. One or two bites and it makes me full. So I think once I go to dense proteins, I will feel restriction. As it is now, I usually feel very little restriction.

Am I Being A Pig Already?

Early on after surgery, (although I am still less than 3 months out) I ate a fat free light yogurt. The whole thing! It FREAKED ME OUT! But then later I read about slider foods. They do go down easy for me. So I am careful with those. My NUT was surprised that I had no problem drinking my Protein drink in one setting. It's not like I guzzle it! But it seems to go down just as easy as Water. However it is different with meats. For me, it is important to weigh my foods and count calories and keep a log of what I eat. I started it before I had surgery and I will always do it now. It's habit. So I am on MyFitnessPal.com every day. Keeps me on track. And everyone and every surgeon/NUT is different. I was told to get in between 70-80 grams of protein a day. So that is what I do. I think you're doing fine. However, for me, it seems your protein level is to low. BUT, you gotta do what your NUT says and what is comfortable for you.
  13. I don't get it I could not even drink drinkable yogurt with a 2.75cc in my 4cc band so I asked for a slight unfill and got 2.7 now I feel if I eat slowly and chew good I can still very easily finish a McDonalds cheeseburger and maybe just a little bit more. I asked the fill nurse if she could put a little more in but she said if she did it would just get me back to where i was before when I couldn't hold food or drinkable yogurt down. So now I am wondering what should I do? Should I try for something like 2.72cc? The nurse said that she didn't think it would make a difference but the difference was huge with 2.75 and 2.7 so maybe my sweet spot in right somewhere in between? I just got this new fill today and I think I can still eat a good portion more than I think necessary. So what do you guys think? I am starting to feel like I may never find my sweetspot.
  14. agreed - greek yogurt is always in my fridge. for me, if i don't have some fat & good carbs w/my meal....i'm hungry after 2hrs. for example today i had grilled zucchini w/goat cheese - NO idea if/when i'll be hungry for diner, as this was extremely satisfying. going fat free or low carb didn't work for myself & my activity level.

    Hungry

I was sleeved on June 20th and I 'think' I am hungry all the time! I don't really know what full feels like? Does chest discomfort mean your sleeve is full??? I get those feelings but my stomach is always growling. I am getting a minimum of 60 grams of protein and 50 ounces of water a day. I am still on liquids so I also eat jello, broth, and popsicles. I have even tried pudding and yogurt! I just feel confused because everyone told me they didn't even want to eat the first week!

    Pre-op Diet???

My doctor/hospital requires a 3 week pre-op diet. I started my diet 2 weeks early. In those 2 weeks I lost 15 pounds so I'd say it's worth starting your diet early. I too was told about the need to shrink the liver. My doctor's pre-op diet is pretty painless. Slim Fast for Breakfast, Lean Cuisine for lunch and dinner (keep it under 300 calories). I'm allowed 1 cup of cooked or 2 cups uncooked veggies and a 90 calorie yogurt. I can also have all the Crystal Light I can drink and sugar free Jell-O. If you're not into frozen meals, 4 Slim Fast shakes are allowed. I'm pretty happy on this diet and not really hungry. It's helping me shrink my stomach down and I love the fact that I've lost weight before the surgery. If I can do some now, that only helps me in the long run. Take care!
  17. I'm two weeks post-surgery and just transitioned over to soft food. I was actually pretty surprised how easy getting fluids and things like yogurt down was. I can drink a 20 oz bottle of Water in 15-20 minutes, 6 oz thing of yogurt in 15 minutes, a cup of blended chili, etc.. That last two nights I've had tuna fish salad and scrambled egg. I was thinking my sleeve must be huge if I can eat 6 oz of yogurt or a cup of chili without batting an eye. 1/2 cup of tuna fish salad - I'm DONE. Can't even think of another bite. 1 egg with a little cheese on it - DONE. I'm glad to see the restriction kick in big-time for more solid foods. It does make me understand more about "sliders", "eating around the sleeve", "cheating the sleeve", etc.
  18. I'm glad to hear that. I'm only 9 days post op and was the same as you. No problems with drinks, yogurt, pudding. I was wondering how my stomach is going to handle the food down the road

Need to get my but back in gear.

I have had a few disastrous weeks myself. I think for me, I have to go back to eating proper meals, I've been picking and of course when you pick, you can eat a lot. So this morning, I"m having a big Breakfast, which is a proper breakfast. I might have Cereal and fruit AND then have yogurt. I know if I eat that lot, its a good healthy balanced meal but it will keep me stuffed for hours. Once I break a cycle I'm pretty right. That's what I'd suggest. Eat well at meals, dont try to eat too little, and make sure you have enough in your tummy to get by on so you dont pick.

    19g Mediterranean Feast!

From the album: Post-Op RNY 6/26/2014

Score! I bought a tube of dill paste from the fridge section near the vegetables. I squeezed some into greek yogurt, added 1 ounce of soy milk, and it made an incredible side to go with my dinner! Will work for fish, tuna, hard boiled eggs, etc. Makes a great helper for chewing. Today I ate Shwarma (chicken thighs) 3 oz @ 16g Greek Yogurt with Dill 1 oz @ 3g Vegetarian Moussaka. -- Although I am in the purees stage, I can no longer eat that texture. I will gag and starve. So I sad for an hour and chewed responsibly, and I got this meal in. Hurray.
  22. I can eat a whole Greek yogurt about a cup in a half hour sitting.
  23. I would call your doctor then to get some sort of definition as to how long phase 3 should last before you try moving on to regular food, even if you're making smart choices. Padanelle - Isn't greek yogurt great? Have you tried mixing it with sweet stuff like fruit and some splenda? My favorite way to eat it right now is with either reduced fat Peanut Butter or the PB2 powder mixed in with it.

    Starting puree today.

My surgeon's plan doesnt do puree until 3 weeks and IMO that was a good pace. As far as foods Canned chicken or tuna or hard boiled eggs with kraft fat free mayo ran through a food processor until there were no chunks left and a smooth consistency, Add some mustard if you like it as well as some seasoning to flavor it up. Its actually pretty good. I was surprised One of my other favorites was Fat Free Refried Beans with a little plain salsa mixed in. Some people say you can add some plain greek yogurt too but I never tried it. Some people mentioned being constantly hungry. I personally did not have any hunger the first 2 months, you may want to look at what you are eating. If it is high in carbs, that may be what is causing you to be hungry all the time.
  25. Thanks everyone!! Boy, I thought I was filled before, but not really. I'm not PB'ing, but I feel even yogurt and pudding going down, unlike before. I'm going to have to be REALLY careful, when I go back to solids.
