Hard to lose 9 lbs by December 16tj

Not sure if this is helpful but here it goes, i have been doing a protein shake in the morning, a high protein low cal soup at lunch and a lean cuisine at night with a side salad i also have a yogurt for snack and i have lost 21 pounds in a month
  2. Our pre-op diets are very similar. I’ll freeze my black bean yummy soup. I wasn’t told Clear Liquids only, just liquids. I’m drinking 3 Protein Shakes and 3 Snacks. Snacks can be: Greek yogurt, milk, sugar free pudding/jello, ricotta, tea, unlimited: Water, zero Gatorade, Protein Water, crystal lite ‘true lemon’, día drink. Absolutely no solids and no fruits. I thought by puréeing the Soup qualifies as a liquid lol. This is my last week on the pre-op diet before surgery so I’ll try to keep it as clear liquids as possible. Thanks
  3. @merraculous still trying to learn how to respond on this app or delete post. My pre-op diet is different than yours. I wasn’t told Clear Liquids, just liquids. You’re lucky to get to eat solids (any solids). Right now I would love a spinach or kale salad. Thanks for the info. Good luck with your surgery too.

A normal day of food post op?

Nearly 6 months post op. I've lost exactly 20% of my weight which was my goal for 6 months. My daily "goals" are 70 protein 70 (or less) carbs and under 1000 calories. I know most people eat less but I've been hungry since month 2 and these goals are manageable for me. I hit them pretty much every day. Here's my honest to goodness a typical day. Sometimes I eat healthier: Morning Smoothie: 0% Fage Greek yogurt, PB2 powder, Almond Banana Milk, fresh spinach, and chocolate stevia drops. (23 protein, 13 carbs, 180 calories. Lunch: 1/2 cup 2% cottage cheese with a teaspoon of Ranch dressing and a small chopped tomato. (12 protein, 10 carb, 100 calories) and 1/4 cup dry roasted sunflower seeds (6 protein, 5 carb, 160 calories) I used to do a meat like chicken or fish instead of the seeds but I found these help me stay regular. Struggling to poop has made me miserable since surgery so I eat these seeds every day. Afternoon Snack: IF I'VE HAD 48 oz of water then I treat myself with this every day: 1 cup fairlife chocolate milk (14 protein, 13 Carb, 140 calories) 2 shots espresso (25 calories), Squirt of whipped cream (25 calories) DInner: 2-3 oz chicken, or steak, or shrimp, or turkey. Small serving of cooked or raw veggie, 1 oz starchy carb like potato, rice, corn (it's literally 3 small bites worth but it helps me digest my protein). Dessert/Treat: Chocolate almonds, cocomel caramels, or the like. Usually about 160 calories of candy. This is the part I should not have and usually makes me nausous. On occasion I skip it but not often. Average about 56oz of water a day.

    November 2020 sleevers

My experience has been like yours. When I got to puree, it changed some. Pureed salmon salad, turkey salad, and egg salad are filling me up. One third cup per meal. Cottage cheese and yogurt don't seem to. I just had the Ricotta bake that is so famous here, and it was awesome, and filled me up. First hot food in a month! Beside broth. Folks here are getting by on 300-500 calories a year out, and im at 500-700, three weeks out. That worries me, but I'm going with my program, getting my hydration and protien every day.
  6. Breakfast was yogurt and a clear protein drink. Snack was a protein drink. Lunch was two egg whites with Parmesan cheese. Snack was a cheese stick. I was craving something savory for dinner and tried a few teaspoons of mashed potatoes which just came back up. Now I just feel like hell. I still have to take my night meds so I hope they stay down. The lap band was so different. When I couldn’t tolerate a food I just threw it up immediately. The bypass is so different. It’s like it keeps trying and trying to go down for an hour and then finally it comes back up. I’m learning, eat slowly, chew everything. How did you do today?

    Nov 2020 Bypass Peeps?

Hello, oh no lol I gave away all my boxes I purchased before surgery in preparation for after lol. I did get genepro it just came in the mail yesterday yay! I threw a scoop in a lil Gatorade zero and I managed to get it down. I also managed to make some egg salad puréed with some chicken broth and it was so good I managed to get it down. It’s been so weird I can tolerate yogurt and sf pudding one day and the next I can’t touch it. It’s literally been a battle daily but I’m throwing powder in everything I can lol to get my protein up. I can finally drink water normally now except I can only drink alkaline water regularly purified water hurts. Anyways it’s nice to have people going through the same thing to talk to. Let me know if you try those shakes again.
  8. Horrible I feel like crap, only eating yogurt , everything eles makes me nauseous . How about you ?

    Vitamins

K, not sure what is in YOUR vitamins, and how you are taking them, but: Iron tends to cause upset stomach. If your multis have iron in them, consider finding one that has a lower amount. Taking certain types of calcium tablets will cause upset stomach if you don't have anything in there...if this may be the cause, you can try taking them after you eat....or during. (I used to take my morning calcium with a tsp of greek yogurt...did the trick.) I started taking calcium chews midway through weight loss phase...goes down just fine on an empty stomach AND delicious, lol. They are about 10 cals each, though.
  10. Thanks for your post. I have been waiting for one of these. Since my surgery my relationship with food has changed so much. It's like a dog I want to pet but he will only let me wave, ya know? Since my tummy doesn't let me eat many things I have taken to baking and cooking for my friends and family - also for my freezer lol. One thing that I have done to allow for some sweetness in my regimen is blending up a tasty fruity protein shake each morning. I find that pairing unflavored protein powder with greek yogurt, 1/4 cup of frozen fruit (I'm digging the Wymans Passionfruit blend currently) and 2-3 oz of OJ helps satiate my sugar craving while also getting in 45grams of protein in one meal (Less than 300 calories). I start my day with that - I feel like pairing so much protein with the fruit/oj equals it out. I had an 8 day stall before I started doing those shakes and since I've been drinking them consistently my weight loss has been steady again. Don't get me wrong I still have a nibble of bread or a treat but know how that can be a slippery slop for myself. Maybe try a different route for your sweet tooth. You are doing great and can change your direction. Don't beat yourself up too much. I have a feeling most of us on here are our own biggest critics - pivot and think positive. You've got this!

    Any December surgery

Your diet sounds so much better than mine. I am allowed three shakes, a non fat plain yogurt and a bariatric pudding a day. I spoke to the nutritionist this morning and she told me I can have a hard boiled egg! I’ve never been so excited for an egg before!
  12. Hello, I'm 5 days post op (vsg) now and am still struggling to get enough protein and fluids. I'm up to 25-30 grams of protein but need 60-90. I'm also hitting approximately 32oz of water but can't seem to increase from there. I'm sipping everything but after only 1 or 2 sips I feel a tightness in my chest and throat like I'm going to regurgitate whatever I've swallowed. Is this normal for everyone? Any suggestions? I've switched to flavorless protein powder in water as I can tolerate water better than any protein shakes and I've added low carb, high protein yogurt but the struggle is still there. Pain at the opening of stomach

I just wanted to give an update on my issue. I ended up going to the ER on the 27th of November because the pain while eating was not getting better. Infact, it seemed to be getting worse. On top of that it seemed that even just a couple bites of food or drink and I was vomiting. It turns out I have an ulcer. They've put me on some medication but I understand they can be pretty tricky to heal and that they can be easily re-agitated. I'm really only able to eat yogurt, creamy soup and baby food at this point. Even that hurts after a couple bites and makes me nauseous. I'm taking anti nausea medication, but it doesn't seem to help much. I'm trying to look on the bright side and tell myself I'm going to lose even more weight, faster but I miss eating.
  14. Yesterday I had a dumping incident after eating a bit of spicy Indian chicken to fast. It was about 30 grams. I became violently ill and (tmi) I felt like my stomach and intestines were being torn in half. This was 20 hours ago. Today i cannot hold anything down. Protein shakes, protein yogurt, protein crackers, rice cakes (advised by my nutritionist) come back up. I am only able to tolerate 0% sugar applesauce and water. Has anyone experienced this? Has anyone experienced not having a sufficient amount of protein. How negative can this impact my weightloss?

I will be four months out on 12/10/20. My food choices are very limited because I am hesitant to try new things. I eat for the most part two or three small meals a day. No more than 5 ounces at each meal. I was able to have thanksgiving dinner with 5 ounces of food. I had leftover on Friday. So happy that I got through my first holiday. My calorie intake is about 700 per day sometimes less. But I feel great.

A normal day of food post op?

LOLOLzzz...I had to rack my brain to remember why I was doing that. Now I remember: I didn't usually eat until noon (was never a breakfast person, never was pre-op, and still am not), and I had to take 3 calcium pills a day, which had to be taken with something in my tum lest I get an upset stomach. Sooooo...for my morning dose, I scooped out a tsp of greek yogurt, buried my calcium pill in it and swallowed! Edit to add: soon after than I switched to the chocolate flavoured calcium chews so didn't have to do that anymore. They were like 10 cals each, but I decided to take the hit cuz they were delicious, lol.

    Smoked oyster and clam spread

1 tin smoked baby clams 1 tin smoked oysters 1 cup Fage 0% plain Greek yogurt 1 cup part skim Ricotta cheese 1/2 cup grated three cheese blend 1 can artichoke hearts in water 2 cups loose fresh spinach 1 tbsp Worchestershire sauce 1 tsp Tabasco 1 tbsp horseradish Stir yogurt and cheese in bowl. Pulse oysters and clams (drain and rinse first to get rid of can taste) and stir into blend Pulse artichoke hearts and stir into blend Stir in spinach, Worchestershire, Tabasco and horseradish into blend. Spoon 1/4 cup into ramekins. Bake at 375 for 20 minutes. 104 cals, 5.4 G fat, 4.4 G carb, 9.3 G protein. Makes 10-12 servings. Nutrition based on 10 servings. My surgeon plan says to stop drinking liquids 15-30 mins before eating, so I stop when I put this in oven to time it right. If you like smoked oysters at all, this is a nice, rich tasting dish that works nicely for pureed stage.

A normal day of food post op?

I'm 20 months out and I'm a little weird in that I almost never eat a full meal. Instead I eat mini-meals throughout the day. For example: 1. 6 AM: Morning latte (made with Kitu Super coffee, 10g or protein and no sugar) 2. 8 AM: 1 scrambled egg 3. 10 AM: Yogurt 4. 12 PM: 1 chicken thigh 5. 3 PM: sugar-free pudding 6. 7 PM: handful of almonds 8. Nighttime snack: cheese stick I typically eat 800-900 calories in a day and 60-70g of protein. I restrict carbs but not calories, so if I have a hungry day I might eat a little more or conversely I might have a low appetite day and eat less.

A normal day of food post op?

I'm 4.5 months out. I eat 3 meals per day and no snacks (except 3 calcium chews per day for a total of 45 calories). My meals are typically 100-200 calories each and I typically eat 500-600 calories per day. If I'm low on protein for the day, I'll drink a protein shake or protein hot cocoa in addition to the meals. My meals are about half a cup each, a little more if there's lettuce because I figure that by the time I chew it up, it loses a lot of volume. Breakfast examples: Half container of triple zero yogurt with half a scoop of protein powder, raspberries/strawberries or PB2, keto granola or nut clusters Scrambled egg with 1/2 ounce cottage cheese, turkey sausage link Protein pancake with strawberries/raspberries and whipped cream Half packet of protein oatmeal with 1/4 scoop of protein powder, walnuts, and shredded carrots 4 ounces cottage cheese with nacho cheese seasoning Lunch: Protein bar if I'm at work; otherwise, same as dinner Typical dinner: Mexican casserole (chicken, cauliflower rice, salsa, black beans, cheese, plain greek yogurt) Salad with chicken and light dressing, topped with crushed Quest protein chips Chicken salad (shredded chicken, plain Greek yogurt, ranch seasoning), lettuce, tomato on half a 1 net carb tortilla with 1/4 ounce cheese White chicken chili Taco bites (shredded chicken, salsa, black beans, lettuce, tomato, plain Greek yogurt on Quest protein chips) Ricotta bake with turkey meat sauce Chicken or pork with sugar-free BBQ sauce, green beans

A normal day of food post op?

At three months, I was eating scrambled eggs or rolled oats for breakfast (2 scrambled eggs took 3 days to eat & a serve of rolled oats took 3 or 4 days). For lunch I ate about 50/60g of chicken or half a pork sausage or a slice of smoked salmon wrapped around a small wedge of cucumber. Dinner was about 50/60g of steak, lamb, pork, fish with two or three beans or a cauliflower floret or a tablespoon of steamed cabbage. If I cooked mince I’d add carrots, celery, onions, mushrooms, tomatoes & sometimes peas & corn & I could eat about a third of a cup. My snack was always high protein yogurt (a 160g tub or 260ml drinking yogurt) & sometimes fruit (slice of watermelon, 8-10 grapes, a mango cheek) or sometimes a cube of cheese. The fruit & cheese were just if I felt hungry. I ate my snack/s in the afternoon or after dinner.
  23. I don't eat a lot of meat or necessarily veggies. But stick to. Low carb way of eating and have for years but for some reason it stopped working and I turned to the tool of gastric bypass surgery to help me. Metabolic disorders and inability to exercise due to lifelong chronic illness and disability doesn't help. But I'm here a year and a half later after surgery. it helps to calculate your baseline protein using the ratio of 0.36 grams of protein per 1 lb body weight. I have a morning protein bar with tea it's my routine. Lunch is my main meal. I might for example have a skillet meal of veggie burger, egg and maybe a little avocado or even a baby banana cooked in. Dinner is routinely Greek yogurt usually oikos triple zero mixed with protein powder usually PEScience (but I tdon't tidy VEga sport and it's good too) some golden flax, a little peanut butter powder sprinkled on top, freeze a bit, top with sola low carb granola only 15 grams I measure everything. Sometimes a sprinkle of pepitas. I like a combination of flavor and texture. But I usually end up getting more protein than I require ... while being low carb . And minimal sugar. edit: you don't need carbs to feel satisfied and can get similar taste and texture profiles from low carb meals. I had to deal with sugar addiction long before I even thought bariatric surgery was ever an option.

    Week 2 eggs

Different plans seem to have some differences in what’s considered a liquid or a purée. I’ve heard that some plans consider yogurt a liquid, and some people are even allowed to eat yogurt while still in the hospital. I couldn’t have yogurt until purées (1 week post-op). And I couldn’t have eggs until soft foods, but I didn’t even try them until I was almost 3 months out because I’ve read that a lot of people don’t tolerate them early on. Fortunately, I haven’t had any problems with scrambled eggs. I’ve read that adding cottage cheese to scrambled eggs make them more tender, so I add 1/2 ounce cottage cheese to 1 egg.

    Week 2 eggs

Once I started on soft foods, I could tolerate cottage cheese, yogurt and refried beans that were thinned with broth, but my tummy did not tolerate eggs for several more months. It's different for everyone, so just experiment until you find what works for you. And your list of tolerated foods will change each week.
