I know what you mean about going back to old habits. Old habits and cravings can be a real b*tch! When I can't resist a food, I can limit how much I eat. For example, yesterday we had a baby shower at work and I wanted a piece of cake soooo bad. Instead of going without or giving in completely, I got a 6oz styrofoam cup and filled it 1/2 full with cake, ate it and then filled myself up on Protein. That way I did get to taste the the cake, but I didn't go too far off my diet. You might try another method I use. My mom always tries to send food home with me and rather than disappoint her by refusing, I take it, then throw it away. And by throw it away, I mean open the container and dump it in the ditch. I'm too tempted to take it back out of the trash can if I leave the food in the container. I know, TMI. :-P You might try getting back on track by throwing 1/2 the happy meal away. Good luck,

Shock, excitement and time to get ready
NotSoTall replied to NotSoTall's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Five weeks out today. Now down 16 pounds post op, 10 pre, 26 total. Nutrition has been good. What I'm finding more challenging are the vits/meds or at least the timing of them. Have to get that down before heading back to work next week. New lunch tote landed and freezer packs so I'm ready to haul everything daily so it's at my fingertips. The other challenge this past week was painful. Possible TMI. Early last week started a painful constipation episode which further agitated a chronic hemorrhoid issue. There was a lot of stabbing pain, bleeding, overall discomfort. Ick! Started taking miralax and stool softeners. 4 days laters things resolved, but OMG I will not slack off softeners for a while. Exercise is another issue. I'm really enjoying working on chores around the house with my new energy, but am not being good about exercise specifically. This is something I must work on. I can tell as time goes on this becomes a bigger mental game in order to keep from slipping into lazy habits such as not tracking or not exercising. I'm okay with the tracking, but the lack of formal exercise shows me I've already slacked off a bit on the post-op plan. This week will be all about reeling back in so I go back to work with my head on straight. -
I have terrible sinus issues year round. I have found that eating is difficult when I am really "snotty"! Anybody else have these issues??? I know...TMI!

I have my surgery back in September – while I've stopped losing weight – mostly because of my lack of moving around these days... (Other health issues/ disabled.) For the past couple of months, I have had trouble eating- even if I have tuna/chicken salad, Soup, and other soft items.. On top of having problems eating, my stomach is no for the lack of a better word seizing up.. I realize the stomach is a muscle, but even if I chew it up completely, take time, and eat soft foods, my stomach starts spasming but, it's thousand so much where it feels like… I'm not sure how to describe it but, the spasms so bad that it takes my breath away and very painful. But when it spazzes, it's almost like it's seizing up – it doesn't go away immediately each time it "spasms", it'll last for a good while. Part of my problem also is that with me not feeling well, time gets away from me and I do forget to eat – I don't know that's it contribute factor not but, i'll send out but I'm not getting enough Protein. It's like, my stomachs going into shock when I finally eat. I've been making a real effort the passion days to try earlier and I know I really need to work on getting more protein in my diet because if I'm only eating wants, the most protein I'm getting is maybe 20 g a day… I know that's not good either but, I plan to just at least have a shake or something like that at least once a day and then have a light meal. There are times when I'm lucky if I can get a couple spoons of chicken salad or tuna salad in me.. I'm not eating bread or Pasta or any carbs and that nature… But, I've been getting really nauseous – more than normal as well. Their times it's so painful that it takes my breath away and then I started getting clammy and feel like I'm going to vomit. So sorry, not trying to give tmi but I'm not quite sure how to word it. Is/has anyone else going through anything like this? The doctor did run a test on the a month or so go where they had a drink I think a little bit of barium and they watched it go down my throat and into my stomach because I was having problems swallowing/things going down… It felt like my esophagus was full and the food wasn't going down… The barium and went down without problems but even drinking Water Stomach just feels like they get stuck either my throat or in my "stomach"… now my stomach seizing up... Causing lots of problems.. Any suggestions, ideas or feedback would be greatly appreciated. I'm not sure how to describe what I'm experiencing.

Hi all. Just feeling discouraged and need to vent to people that can relate. I'll be 6 weeks out on Thursday and am struggling. I was feeling really badly last week after being constipated for a week (sorry if tmi). The nurse have me some suggestions that got things moving but then I spent several days cramping and feeling naseau. She put me back on clears for a day, which did help a little, but I got off track with liquids and Proteins. I'm really having a hard time getting back on track. I'm trying to make myself drink the Protein shakes once a day but last night it made me literally sick. I'm only supposed to eat 3x per day and just can't get enough protein in with the amount of good I can eat. Nothing tastes good or satisfies and I don't even really want to eat. Water even upsets my stomach so getting at least one power ade zero per day, but lacking in fluids as well. I'm tired and don't feel good if I don't eat but feel even worse if I do. I hate to be a whiner, and I certainly never thought I would see the day that I didn't want to eat, but it's all catching up with me. I'm worried about the effects over the next few months of me not getting the protein I need now. Can anyone relate? Any tips?

I rarely use the bathroom anymore?
cprince1975 replied to Comfy_Blue's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nope, no stress. I'm not sure what's up. I talked to doctor last week, I have an enlarged uterus so possibly fibroid. And if it is, they can cause constipation. Fingers crossed I get answers Friday. Going for testing. I have been having to -tmi warning- manually remove stool for weeks now. -
Hey all! I'm just shy of 4 weeks post-op (sleeved Feb 19), and as I have progressed from pureeds to soft protiens and now into some more solid regular foods, I wanted to see how some of you coped with the learning curve that seems to come with navigating the new plumbing. There's a TMI alert that comes with this, so read at you own peril! I've probably had a half dozen incidents where either I have had one bite too many, ate maybe a touch too quickly, or just ate something too rich or too fatty-- or maybe a combo platter of these things. What usually results is a mouthful of sudden saliva, a little dizziness, and after a quick jaunt to the bathroom, it's followed by really slimy vomit, almost a mix of vomit and even more saliva. It's not a violent puking at all, in fact it's rather gentle compared to, say, a real ralph-fest from partying too hard from back in the day. I've had ti happen to me at a restaurant and even once while I was driving (thank goodness I had an empty cup in my car or that could have gotten UG-LEE. ) So my dilemma is navigating this learning curve-- trying to read the signs my body gives me that I've had enough to eat. Many times I am good at picking up on that. Sometimes, not so much, and my sleeve lets me know in the rudest way possible. I am sure this has got to be one of the speedbumps on the way to our 'new normal', right?

Is there pain /complications? Or is it as simple as you realize you are eating too much and not losing? I was banded 3-6. My first night of blended foods didn't go well. Terrible stomach cramps and guessing I ate too much. Didn't throw up but let's just say I was in the bathroom the entire night. (Sorry for the TMI) Since then I've had zero trouble... except I'm starving all the time and feel like I can eat way more than 1.5 cups. Have also caught myself eating too fast. I slowed down but then wondered why I didn't have a problem while eating that way. Now it's 1:30am and I can't sleep stressing that I did something wrong that first night. Amy input would be appreciated. Thanks!

I had a pretty productive gas removal day yesterday, tmi, I know, lol. I'm trying to ignore it and just keep sipping away on my water. I fear it may be head hunger, I'm not sure. I'll get through it. Thanks for your responses.

Why didn't anyone tell me it was going to be this hard?
spraine replied to uscbree's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 3 days post op today. Post op day #1 was my worst. I was nauseous and vomited a couple of times when I tried to swallow anything. Post op day #2 wasn't a picnic, but I could do Clear Liquids, albeit with pain. I could feel everything I swallowed as it went down, and there was definitely pain. OW! But since I could keep everything down and was walking around a ton, I could go home. I was totally constipated and took a side trip to Target to keep the walking going. It took me about an hour to have a bowel movement yesterday (sorry if that is TMI). Today (post op day #3) seems to be diarrhea day, but it is so much better than constipation. Also, I can do about 4oz/hour. So far watered down cream soup and lactose free milk seem to be okay. Unfortunately, I am only at 25g of Protein today. But, I am really happy that I have been able to take all my Vitamins and that I did not gain any weight in the hospital as so many seem to do. So small victories. Hang in there! -
Ok so me being a lil stopped up..(prolly TMI) but I drank 2 glasses of wine last night an it did not get me drunk. I wasent intending on that. But what it did do is clean my system out which was well needed. I am pleased to say that I have heard and read so many horror stories and I proved that it will not do anything but work as a colon clense. Especially if u haven't went #2 in 2 days.

Its my birthday and ill be nauseous if i want to! Forgive me while i go puke... TMI but those who had WLS should be understanding...

What was your Infamous Week 3 Stall experience?
Lulah replied to NotSoTall's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was losing about 1-2lbs a day starting around day 4 post op. When I got to week 3 I just stopped losing, but I was pms'ing and constipated (ugh tmi). Well I am now almost 6 weeks out and weighed myself today (only weighing on Fridays) and I was down 2lbs so I'm praying that my stall is over!!! -
Great to hear! Keep up the good work! I am 5 1/2 weeks out and am on soft foods. So far everything I have eaten has gone done well, so I am excited about that! I have been walking and just starting doing some squats and arm circles every day this week, nothing major but hoping to work my way up to more intense exercise in the next few weeks. My only complaint is the infrequent BM's (sorry tmi) but I think they cause my weight loss to stall and make me feel uncomfortable. I think I am going to try some gummy benefiber. As for NSV, my wedding ring fits again!!! Woohoo, I have not been able to wear it for at least 5 years and my clothes are big, I needed a belt with my work pants, which I haven't needed in forever and when I did but it on, I needed the last hole, so that was great! Friends and family are super supportive and happy for me, co workers are starting to notice my weight loss too. 20lbs since surgery 30lbs total Also wanted to ask what is your go to meal/snack right now? Mine is iced decaf coffee with a scoop of vanilla unjury protien powder, very good!

Quest bars are Poo Bombs
BlueMoon~T replied to 2Big2Skate's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I read this topic awhile back and I thought... Phew! I'm not the only one. As long as I'm getting my water intake I don't have issues. Not to be gross but Quest bars and me are like that scene in the movie "Dumb and Dumber" when Jim Carey's character dumps an entire bottle of Exlax in Jeff Daniels' characters tea. Definitely a colon cleanser for me. I would rather drink Mira lax any day. Sorry for the TMI -
. Kajun I was in the same boat my advise is start at the lowest dose MOM. I took the full capful and starting going 30 min later and has emergency liquid bm all day long. TMI right? You will feel better almost immediately but the dose cup says 2 - 4 and I took 4 then spent the rest of the day trying not to embarrass myself. Lol. Today was my day 4 by the way.

The only stalls I have had have been when I have not gone to the restroom for a couple days. Sorry i know its TMI. But also I have said this numerous times. Even when you dont have a loss on the scale, you probably had a loss with the measuring tape.

Hi Everyone! I am a newbie, 4 days post op. Happy to have my band... All is going as expected, experiencing the gas pain, the fullness upon sipping about 2/3 ozs of broth, drinking my Water all day as possible, sipping not gulping taking my time, making sure to follow the rules of the road to the tee. however... have one problem presenting itself...let me explain... There is one thing that I will do anything to avoid and that is the stormy feeling right before i have to vomit. I will do anything to avoid that feeling, anything including sitting on the floor and crying like the biggest baby in the world! I have avoided crying due to being post op banded, but near it tonite. In case you don't know what I am referring to, it's the extreme salivation, breaking out in a nauseating sweat, getting dizzy as if you may faint, pain in the chest / acid reflux - nasty feeling you may or may not get right before actually vomiting. (it's gross, sorry for TMI). Anyway, this has happened for the past 3 nights, every night when I lean back into my recliner to sleep. it doesn't happen during the day, only during the evening right before bed. I thought it was maybe that I was not giving myself time between my last meal/drink for the evening, but tonight I made sure I didn't have anything for at least 3 hours before bedtime and it still happened like clockwork, the minute I sank back into my recliner and began to get comfortable-wham... My stomach churned, my mouth got all full of saliva, I broke out into a nauseating sweat and auto responded by jumping up and leaning over the porcelain only to not vomit again, just stood and swayed and spit until the feeling passed again- it only happens for about a minute and then I am fine and can rest peacefully the remainder of the night. (A good thing that i don't actually vomit i guess). I am not eating more than 3 0zs of liquid broth 3 times a day, i sip it, i give myself at least 30 seconds to a minute between sips, yes, I count, I am drinking as slow as a tortoise and not on any solids yet, not even mushies. I am so determined to do this the right way and again avoid getting stuck (nothing to actually get stuck on yet) and again, want to avoid this slime stuff as much as possible.. not sure why this is happening or what else I can do for it other than the gas-x strips and anti-nausea meds, I was prescribed post op.. that are evidently not as effective at night?? Suggestions? Thanks for reading,
-
I have a theory that the tighter that band gets, the less air can escape upwards and come out as a burp. I hardly burp at all. Therefore, the gas must go down and out the other way. I have been much more gassy since my band. But, I'm eating so healthy it doesn't really smell like it used to. Sorry if that's TMI. Lol.

Post-op hospital stay
rensterness replied to KBlood's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My hospital stay was three night and four days. Everyone has a different view on their hospital stay, mine wasn't the greatest or the worst. I brought my own protein shake which they fridgerated for me, and my friend brought me Broth from the Chinese place :-). They pushed the sipping and walking which was needed, but annoying lol. My pain was controlled with pain meds which I felt controlled them and made me more comfortable. This may be a TMI advice but I believe in being honest...if you feel like you have to pass gas, it may be a smart idea to sit on the toilet. I don't think much more needs to be said. Lol. I found out after surgery when it was to late about that. It seems more common then not, just not something that is brought up on the forums. Lol. I am now 5 months post op from the sleeve and lost over 100 pounds since surgery date. Wishing you nothing but the best! Keep is posted :-) -
After surgery I am always cold too... Dr says my iron is low and suggests I take an iron supplement but of course I don't. I'd rather be cold than constipated I know TMI but true lol.

Well here I am 6 days post op! Got home from TJ yesterday. Today was my first day if feeling really week and blah. Been in bed pretty much all day. I was running around like crazy in TJ post surgery. We walked to the mall and around there and other little trips like that. Got up this morning and made my daughter, niece, and nephew pancakes and had a cup of Jello and felt like I had been run over. My sister is here with her kids for the weekend helping me so I just went back to bed. Also had horrible diahhrea today, first time that happened. Sorry TMI. Got on scale yesterday when we got home, down 5 pounds which doesn't surprise me being on liquids only. I've been drinking/eating full calorie Gatorade, jello, and broth to get some calories in me. Once I can start eating food I will change to all sugar free, zero cal drinks. Can't wait to start on full liquids tomorrow. pudding and Protein shakes yay! I definitely have the desire to eat but I'm not hungry. My body wants to eat for the energy and I'm just used to it! I almost took a bite of my kid's pancake out if habit! Wasn't thinking and put it to my mouth. Realized just before I ate it what I was doing. Still tender and sore where incisions are. Took bandages off so they can breathe now. Bought some Maderma for the scars. Have to wait until they are fully healed to use Maderma but that stuff works! I used it on a previous surgery scar on my stomach and it cleared up the scar in 3 months. That scar was much larger than these tiny incisions. Well I'm going to get up, shower, and take the kids on a short walk.

I am just 3 weeks out and I started taking them two days ago. It takes me about 10 minutes to nibble on them and they work. (TMI) I haven't been this regular in months.
