  2. Apparently LapBandTalk is wondering where all of it's former members went and why us "old timers" no longer post. So far the first 4 pages, to my surprise have been "I'm doing great, lost my weight and enjoying my new body" type posts. I was the first bust thy bubble with complications. I figured those who had bands prior to VSG would at least enjoy the read if not want to share your story to prevent another poor soul from going through what we have. I did NOT go looking for this thread of LBT, they sent an email out asking where some of the "Old Timers" were and I figured perhaps some of you who used to post there may have changed your email address but would still LOVE the chance to be honest with what the band did to you and your body http://www.lapbandtalk.com/topic/126044-any-old-timers-still-around/page__st__60#entry1584321 is the link. Enjoy!

    April 15

155 lbs I was down to 152, and have GAINED! I ended up getting an unfill on March 29th. I started having issues with my fill and not being able to handle solids well. PBd a few times, which hasnt happened in months. Got to the point only liquids and thin mushies would go down. I have been unfilled to 1cc for 2 weeks and it is tough. I ate a PBJ sandwich with a glass of milk for breakfast one day........so I KNOW that I am wide open. Have been trying to make good choices until I can get back to get refilled. Upside is I am in size 10 pants and jeans!

    web site

Weightview.com will show you 50 lbs lighter. But you need to be side ways. Its a cool sight. I sent mine in a while back. I will be sending it again in 10 more lbs.
  7. I am 10 days post op, drinking more than 90 grams of protein (but only getting about 500 calories). I have ZERO energy. It takes everything I have just to take a shower. I am still quite sore at incision sites, but glad the staples were taken out today. Anyone have ideas on how to decrease the fatigue I'm feeling? I start vitamins and pureed foods on tuesday... hopefully that will help?
  8. I just had my surgery on 3/27 and had to do a pre-op liquid diet as well. I had to do it for 10 days. Each surgeon seems to do it a little different. Mine allowed 3-4 high protein low carb shakes (Atkins Advantage) for meals and then I could pick 2 protein choices a day (fat free yogurt, 1/2 cup cottage cheese, 2 oz deli turkey breast, hard boiled egg or 8 oz skim milk). Also allowed 1 cup steamed veg or 2 cup raw veg (non-starches). I found the shakes surprisingly do fill you up more than I expected and had one at each meal and one before bed, I spaced the yogurt and other proteins mid morning and dinner and filled the veggies in between. Also had unlimited sugar free jello, crystal light, sugar free popsicles and fat free broth as well. It's tough at first but doable, it seems to get easier after the first few days. I lost 14 pounds during my 10 days and my surgeon said my liver was shrunk which helps them perform the surgery more safely. Good luck!
  9. Hello! I'm currently having to do a 4 week liver shrink diet. Surgeon wants me down between 10-20lbs for surgery on May 8th. My nutritionist gave me a list saying I should drink 5 Protein Shakes a day with a Protein Bar plus a calorie counted meal for dinner... My question is, if anyone has done the same thing (rather only 2 weeks or 4 like me) HOW did you get into the rhythm of it? When did you drink the Protein shakes and how much time apart each? Any feedback will be VERY helpful! Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk

    My first fill...

Well, today was my first fill. I was nervous about not knowing what to expect and being forced to drink til i choke...LOL. I couldn't believe how easy it was to get through. I took photos... well, my Mom did. It wasn't painful or a struggle of any kind. I still feel great but will be on clear liquids again for the next 2 days. I got 4cc put in my band today. I look forward to seeing how much restriction that gives me. I am glad to be on the next part of my journey.... And I lost a little over 10 more pounds which makes 44 pounds lost so far all together. Yippee!

    I could use a Buddy/Mentor

Hi Pati, Shamrock Girl? Are you Irish? Have you been to Ireland? I've been - beautiful country. Anyway, my name is Kerry. I live in Colorado - I have been married for 37 years. I got banded in Belgium a few years ago and lost about 55 pounds. I have only lost about 10 pounds this past year. I do throw up sometimes - lots of Soups for me. I still cannot eat fresh vegetables or breads very easily. I have two kids that are grown - now days no one pays much attention to me having a lap band. My husband is always trying to find tasty foods for me that I can drink instead of chew. What are your problems that you have had so far? I still would like to lose 50 pounds - a long way to go. How about you? Hope to hear from you soon. Your friend, Kerry

    7 hours out!

I just got sleeved on 5/20. The minute I woke I felt terrible. Now it's the second day and I am slowly feeling better. The gas pain and nausea is still here. I aldo am having massive headaches but I am also nursing my 6 month old so that might be the culprit. Hang in there. I am here with 10 other patients and some people are doing great and others worse.
  16. I'm just on the 3rd week post op but I'll tell you about the change after the surgery. I have no longer hunger but I know I MUST eat for energy and the amount of food that I can eat is 2 tablespoons. I have sleeved in France so the restriction post-op for diet is a bit different, my doctor said I can eat anything I want but blended. The first two weeks it has to be only Fluid (but I can eat yogurt) then the 3rd week I can start eating pureed food like potato smashed. Oh, yes, but no candies no soda, all sweet stuff. Eat a little at a time (4 times a day) on the fix hour, I'm not hungry but I just eat on the meal time. Eat very small amount and slowly and the most important thing is at least 1 L of Water everyday 20 minutes before and after the meal. After the research I'd done on my own, like you, I asked him about Protein shake and he said, no need, no supplementary diet of any kind is necessary at the moment. He told me to eat only small amount of natural food. Seems like he needs me to get used to my new stomach first and learn that I can live on a very small amount of food Personally I try to eat as much as protein as possible like eggs, purred fish, Greek yogurt with purred fruits, cooked brocoli purred, mainly protein, fruits and vegetable. One time I tried Pasta purred with salmon and I felt sick, so no pasta at the moment. My doctor said I have 3 years post-op to learn to eat right to maintain the weight for life. I guess that at some point the hunger will return, I will be able to eat more than 2 spoons per meal but at least the experience of being obese for 20 years and receiving the second chance should remind me to pick the best choice of food and move my (hopefully smaller) ass to exercise to keep this gift for life. And I know I can do it because during the pre-op I tried the low carb diet to see if I can make it after the surgery (my surgeon never asked me to lose weight before the surgery) and it worked pretty well actually, I wasn't really too strict because I ate small amont of carb only for lunch or Breakfast but not for dinner and I lost 13 lbs in 2 months before the surgery between my first consultation with my surgeon and the date of operation. What's different is I've lost almost 19 lbs in 20 days post-op woo hoo!
  17. Hi there...I am a secretary and would love to find 12/14 work clothing...possibly even 10's. I am going on a cruise next month...so I would welcome anything suitable for that. I have 16/18/20 business clothes for anyone who needs it. A great lady sent me Misook brand clothing that is now too big for me. I didn't know it at the time...but Misook is a really great brand. Let me know if you need them and I will send clothing your way. Let's keep the cycle going!

    1 week

I am now 10 day post sleeve. I would kill for some solid food as well!!! I am already planning my first solid meal, which judging from the posts on here will be about 5 mouthfuls of whatever I choose. Stay strong, we all had this done for a very good reason. Good luck with your journey.

    lab band support meeting

I have not been attending any support meetings since getting banded on 1/19 but I plan to start this month. The meetings are held once per month. I decided to start going after I had my first fill on 4/11. There were five other ladies also waiting for fills and while we were waiting, we started talking and sharing our experiences. I found even that beneficial and fun. So I made up my mind at that point to check out some of the support meetings. Especially now since I seem to be in a slump and stressed out about it.

    I want to live

I am 25 and I weigh 308 lbs. today. I started my journey at 324 lbs. I want to know if any one else is on the same road as I am. I have been obese for my entire life. I can't walk a flight of stairs without getting out of breath. Yesterday was the first time in about five years that I got out of the house and walked around the neighborhood. I was always a couch potato. I would eat all day long. Any time my mood changed good or bad I would eat. Anytime I watched T.V. I would eat. I just ate a bunch of junk food like, nachos, bags of chips, candy bars, chocolate chip cookies, buttered popcorn, etc. Even after eating all day I would always take something sweet upstairs to bed. I have even let my daughter follow the same paths as I have. She is five years old and she wants McDonald's everyday after school because her granny always takes her. She is not too big now (51 lbs.) but her doctors always check her blood pressure because she is in the top 10% of her age on the weight chart. When I decided to get my life together and stop killing myself I decided to turn her around on the right track also. She cries out in the stores and throws temper tantrums because her granny won't take her to McDonald's anymore and I threw out all of the sweets and fattening foods out of our house. She is coping better now. I bought sugar free Popsicles, fat free pudding a jell-o, and different healthy snacks that she can have. I also don't let her have these things until she eats her meals including vegetables. I have forced myself to stay on my four week EAS AdvantEdge pre-op diet. I will be banded on June 13th. Every time I see a restaurant or a commercial about food and start craving unhealthy foods, I just imagine myself fitting into my size 12 nightie. I would like someone to give me encouraging words or tell me about your experiences with you weight issues.

    New here from California!

I think Kaiser has a program that once approved you go through their program. I think it is either 6 or 12 months. You have to lose 10% of your weight before they will do the surgery. Go into your doctor and find out more. That is where I would start. Good luck.
  22. Im worried about my drain tube, it keeps getting clogged and now the color has turned like a yellowish green. I was sleeved on 10-13

    FKN TIRED OF STALLS!!

Im a year and a half out from my surgery and OMG it gets so so hard sometimes. Covid hasn't helped things either since I've been stuck at home around food and our LOVE-HATE relationship 24/7!! Cravings? CHECK! Stress? CHECK! Anxiety? CHECK! Unhealthy food (at least for me) stocked up?? DOUBLE CHECK! I just ordered more protein shakes/snacks to help alleviate some of this because i don't want to punish my husband or kids by taking away their treats. I know i haven't been making smart food choices lately so im just ashamed more than i can even describe. I was going to therapy but since the pandemic began its Tela-Health video appointments and the office is INSANELY backed up.. i refuse to see another dr because of the distance plus i don't like having to explain so many times what my issues are.. I just wanted to vent to my Surgery Siblings because it feels like everyone around me doesn't understand why it is so hard, stressful, and heartbreaking to be stuck around food all the time because EVERYONE in my family is skinny and don't gain weight at all. I look at a candy bar and gain 10 lbs lmao Thanks for letting me vent!! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

what to bring to the hotel?

Hi Andrea, You will need your bullet as you will be staying until the forth of August I believe you said. Dr. Cobourn's patients start having Optifast again. I started having mine on friday after having surgery on wednesday. The day of surgery was Water only then thursday clear, low fat low carb low calorie liquids. Then Friday opti-fast can be added in. One package for me spilt into three servings for the day. That lasts 7-10 days. Yours might be slightly different based on what Dr. C thinks is best. Hope that helps with your question. I also took both gas x strips and chewable tablets. Also found children's liquid tylenol the 2-12 year old one worked well for me for pain. Also they do make a gravol suppository which might be easy to take then the liquid if you are having troubles, but I don't think you will, I sure didn't and that was a fear of mine. Has your package arrived from the clinic yet?
