    3 week stall?

My 3 week stall is on week 4..../...no loss for 2 weeks...im fed up. I'm getting all my Protein and following the diet to a T, but nothing. It is so frustrating and depressing. I hope we both see some movement soon.
  2. I know I've read here a million times about a 3 week stall - but I guess now that it's happening to me ...... I'm freaking out lol I'm so worried I'll be the ONE that this surgery doesn't work for !! I'm definitely reaching my Protein goals each day..... almost reaching my liquid goal and I'm really not eating very much. Maybe once a day I have yogurt or turkey slices w/ cottage cheese. Grrrrrrrrr! [emoji4] Thanks for any advice !!!

    Diet

GOOD. FOR. YOU!! I had to do a six month pre-op diet program as an insurance requirement. I started Day 1 of that, and lost 99 pounds (397 to 298) by the day of surgery. It was the best thing I ever did for myself. I redefined my relationship with food before the surgery, dealt with my mental demons before the surgery, and lost half of the weight I needed to lose before the surgery. Trust me, that made EVERYTHING much easier. (Least of all, when the 3 week stall hit -- and it WILL hit -- I had lost 120 pounds and not just 20 pounds. It made it much easier to handle emotionally.) Everyday, in my mind, I add 100 pounds to my current weight and think to myself that would be my weight had I not gone ahead and gotten started. Good luck! Keep up the great work and attitude!
  4. Ok... almost every post I've read someone says the scale stalls around week three. Guess what .... week four for me and the scale hasn't moved for three days! Still sticking to liquids. Any idea why this happens?

Need to vent - So frustrated

Gee, The 3 week stall is VERY real. I don't know the scientific explanation either, but I truly believe it's related to your body going into starvation mode. Once your body accepts that you won't be giving it the tons of food we were giving it before, then the stall will break. And, you'll stall every now and again because you're eating too much, or not eating enough, or not moving enough, or moving so much that your body is converting fat to muscle. However, overall, you (we) will lose weight. I'm stuck just under the 300 mark right now and have been here for a week or so. However, I'm exercising more than ever, just added treadmill tonight, yay me! I can feel my clothes getting loser and I'm betting things are shifting for you as well. I broke my 3 week stall by ADDING food to my diet, instead of subtracting. I added in a few carbs and added more Water. TMI, then I started going regularly. I happen to love the days I go, because I immediately see the results in the scale. Many years ago, a friend of mine told me that the weight we lose doesn't magically evaporate...it has to go somewhere. So, every bodily function uses up some of that: sweating, breathing, and potty times all rid the body of it's excesses. It was a DUH moment for me. Good luck on your journey!! You are going to get there...and I can't wait to see your pictures!!
  6. It is normal to stall, in fact I think they call it the 3 week stall although it happens to some people earlier and later than 3 weeks. It is your body realizing that you are making big changes and it is not quite sure if it should let go of fat stores in your body. The most important thing you can do is stay the course on the plan. Drink 64 oz. of Water per day, get your Protein in, take your Vitamins and keep on exercising. It will all of a sudden let go and you will start losing again. I know it is frustrating, I had a stall that lasted 4 weeks and a couple more that lasted a week. All of a sudden weight will drop off. Keep in mind it never comes off as quickly as that first month. Expect a couple of pounds a week if you are following the plan. Some people lose faster than that and it all depends on where you are. Heavier people usually lose more faster in the beginning. Everyone is different and you should not compare yourself to others. Also, if that scale is making you crazy, stay off of it. I actually weigh daily but I do not let the scale make me nuts. I use my clothing to gauge my weight loss. If my clothing is fitting loser, then I know I am losing inches. Good luck and stay positive!
  7. It's amazing that it seems like just about everyone has a 3 week stall. Mine lasted about a week. I tried getting more fluids but I am not sure it matters. I think it's your body chemistry adjusting after the surgery...just my thoughts. I started losing again in the 4th week. Don't worry too much about it!
  8. Yay! I broke my almost 3 week stall by losing 5 pounds since Tuesday! AND it's my 1st 20 pounds down since surgery!!! I am so happy Just thought I'd share

I'm stick and I'm losing hope!

Take a deep breath. I see that you have posted 56 times so you are not new to this site. I know you know that you are ripe for the "dreaded 3 week stall". Unlike every other "diet" you have tried, this is not an excuse to say f it and soothe yourself with food. Relax, follow protocol and look for the article so many post on why we experience a stall. You are cared about and certainly, not alone. I began my stall after my 2nd week and have lost only 2 pounds since for a grand total of 10 pounds post surgery. It is 10 pounds I don't have to play Uber with any more!

    Cruising with the sleeve?

I actually went on a cruise right at 3 months out, and I had a great time! I had more energy to actually go and do than I have had in a LLOONNGG time. As for the eating, all of the friends that went with us knew about my surgery and were supportive. I had no problems, but I have also been eating in front of other people since I went back to work, around 2 to 3 weeks out, and the people that went on the cruise with us also work for us, so we do lunch every single day together. I was worried before we went that I wouldn't be able to enjoy the cruise post-sleeve as much as I enjoyed them pre-sleeve, but I found the opposite to be true. I just stayed busy, and with the food, stuck with Soups for appetizers, seafood for entree, and skipped dessert altogether, but I don't tolerate milk, chocolate, and sugar very well. I hope this helps! I was actually on a 3 week stall when we left for our cruise, and when we returned home, I was 4 pounds down, and lost 6 pounds the next week!
  11. My "3 week stall" actually occurred at week 5. It was 13 days long. My weight loss pattern between month 1 and month six was basically lose for 2 weeks, stall for 2 weeks, repeat. It was frustrating at first, but got used to it after a while. Let me start with a little personal history. A lot of my weight dropped month 1 and 2, with mostly walking. Month 3-5 dropped about 1/2 rate with mostly ellyptical. Month 5-7 dropped a little faster with mostly running. Now trying to improve fitness and gain back some lean muscle with cross fit, incline running and yoga as well as supplements. One suggestion to limit stalls is to eat more good carbs, lots of Protein (120+ and plenty of Water (100+ oz) during weight loss period. I did eat a lot of quality protein and drank a lot of water, but did not eat good carbs until recently and really leaned out in upper body, mostly due to hard running. There are some supplements I have learned about recently that might help preserve lean muscle such as BCAA (amino acids) and catalyst so your exercise does not eat all your lean muscle during loss.

    6 days post op

@@anewdayforme you have such a great outlook and perspective, you will do great! Glad to hear you are feeling well and it sounds like ready to go back to work on Monday. In my experience, when I got to solids the loss slows, plus you will probably hit the infamous 3-week stall, unfortunately. If you haven't read about it, search the BP site as it seems most of us have it, and no reason for concern. Best of luck! Today is my 1.5 year surgiversary and I still have much to go, but my unsolicited advice to you is trust the process, focus on the what you can control (what you do and think) and don't focus on the outcome. This isn't a race but a lifestyle.

    Ready to give up

You didn't say what you're eating, but try going back to basics. I did this after a 3 week stall and it worked. Eat only protein. No veggies or fruit. Try it for a week and see if it gives you a kick start.

I Betty, I had my sleeve done 8/9/16 at the age of 62. Best choice I ever made for myself. Down about 50ps total between pre-op and now. Just got thru a 3 weeks stall and all. Down already 1/2 my blood pressure med. Love my new life. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using the BariatricPal App
  15. It is a stall!!! That is the good news! 3 women in my family have been sleeved and all 3 have stalled 1-3 weeks out for 2-5 weeks! I was a revision from a band and I stalled at 1 week for 2 more weeks. I have since lost 10 lbs in 8 days once my stall stopped! Both sisters have been successful with the sleeve. 150 lbs and 70 lbs lost by each. You may double check and look at your calories. Once I started eating more Protein and veggies (I was on any an all foods at 3 weeks!) and exercising (which you are already doing!!) then I dropped it! Keep on going. If you are following what the dr says with food, Water, protein, exercise, then you should be golden. Research the "3 week stall" because it is supposedly a thing. It has happened with 3 out of 3 sleeves in my house! Good luck! You have got this! Banded 2010 weight:327 Sleeved 12/28/16 weight:253 CW: 230 GW: 155 Heather in Texas
  16. I saw this and had to share, cause I am so feeling this way today. Hit the dreaded 3 week stall....
  17. This month marks number 3 in the 6 month medically monitored weight loss program that my insurance requires. I have been reading threads, taking notes, journaling, and have a spreadsheet to mark my weekly changes in weight and measurements. #scaleshateme I still struggle with the idea that the surgery will happen. I tend to be a pessimist, so I keep thinking that this is too good to be true. Maybe my insurance will deny it. Maybe something will go wrong. I don’t want to be negative, but here I am. #negativenancy I have changed my eating habits up a bit. I have started eating 4 meals a day and drinking water. I NEVER drank water before. I would drown out fatigue with caffeine all day long. I worry that I will struggle to give that up, but I am down to 2 mugs per day. #win I have read about ‘not trusting a fart,’ not taking an underwire bra to wear home from surgery, the 3 week stall, constipation woes, and hair loss. I recognize that a realistic weight loss expectation is to lose 60% of excess weight, and I know to walk as much as possible to avoid gas pain post op. I also know that loose skin and vanishing boobs are a thing. #youguysrock Just wanted to journal a bit on here. I would love some feedback or tidbits of things to expect that I haven’t found yet. #gettingexcited
  18. Sounds like the dreaded 3 week stall came a few days early for you. And for many it is also bowel movements. It happens to most people and you will start loosing again. Just keep working your plan, sounds to me like you are doing the right stuff. Search 3 week stall on this sight if you want more info on it.

    8 days out!!

Congrats!!! It is pretty dang awesome huh? Don't freak out when you hit the 2-3 week stall. It happens for most people some where in that time frame. For me it was in between weeks 2-3. I have started losing again this week and I am staying in this groove as long as I can ..lol

    A pound a week :P

I am almost 4 weeks out as of tomorrow, and as you can see in my stats, I am considered a "slow loser". I lost 5 pre op and 17 post op and now I am in my dreaded 3 week stall. Could I have lost 17lbs in 4 weeks without surgery? Absolutely! Done it a hundred times! Did I KEEP those 17lbs I lost off before my surgery? HELL NO! I might be losing a little slower than other surgery patients, but I don't care because I know when I ultimately lose all the weight I need to, I will not pile it back on quicker than I lost it! Keep things in perspective. We did this for lifelong results, not quick weight loss. Work the program and let it work for you, whether you lose 25lbs a month or 5! Congrats on your current weight loss!
  21. Help!!! I converted from Lapband to bypass 3wks ago and at my 2wk appt my doc ok'd me to have Wendy's chili and chicken and ground turkey etc as long as I chewed it well. I'm assuming she transitioned me because I had a previous surgery. However, preop included I lost 39lbs but since real food I'm back up 4lbs. I know about the 3 week stall but wouldn't I had lost more staying on liquids/ purée/soft food stage longer. I feel like my doc sabotaged me. Anyone else transitioned early per doc and gained? Weight Loss

Sleeved on 7/29, close to your date. Lost 25 since surgery. Watch carbs, protein, cals, and fluid, it is just the rate my body has decided to lose. Had the 3 week stall, now losing 2-3 lbs a weeks.

Tell me about odd weight loss patterns

    After my surgery, on 8/17, I purposely did not weight myself until my first post-op appt. I knew I would be swollen, etc. and I had read about the 3 week stall. I thought I would give you my weekly weights and show you how I've lost. It certainly hasn't been consistent, but overall I am very pleased. 9/7/2015 234.4 -3 9/14/2015 230.2 -4.2 9/21/2015 228 -2.2 9/28/2015 224 -4 10/5/2015 223 -1 10/12/2015 217 -6 10/19/2015 215.2 -1.8 10/26/2015 214.6 -0.6 11/2/2015 213.6 -1 11/9/2015 214.2 0.6 gain 11/16/2015 210.4 -3.8 11/23/2015 208.4 -2 11/30/2015 203.4 -5 12/7/2015 206.8 3.4 gain 12/14/2015 204.6 -2.2 12/21/2015 200.2 -4.4

My guess is that the answer to question one is that you are at the 3 week stall. If you search stalls, you will find that ALOT of people hit a stall right around the 3 week mark. Mine lasted about 8 days and then I was back to losing weight. I can't help with question 2. Good luck!

I Want My Stomach Back For A Day!

I COMPLETELY get you! I had the same feelings, too. I still do on rare occasions. It is maddening to feel like you've spent so much money and invested so much energy and had your stomach REMOVED from your body and now all you want is to feel "normal" and be able to do the things that you used to do. And there isn't a normal any more, and you can't do them. I think a lot of us go through this at some point--and it doesn't help that you are actually right around the time of the infamous 3-week stall (just do a forum search and you'll see what I'm talking about). Your body is flipping OUT right about now, getting ready to ditch a BUNCH of weight, but all that fat burning is also releasing all kinds of hormones, which, on top of the frustration of having to relearn how to eat, makes for some craziness. It's temporary, I promise. Just hang in there. What got me past the anger was the realization that yeah, if I was feeling so frustrated at not being able to eat a normal portion, I NEEDED my sleeve to control things for me. I NEEDED that permanent fix. It wasn't something I was ever going to be able to control on my own. I was really mad at myself for having to go through with a surgical fix for my weight issue. Once I realized it was a "done deal," though, I realized I had no other choice but to learn how to manage it, move past the feelings of frustration and anger, and get on with making my "new normal." If you really liked the "old normal," you wouldn't have had the surgery, right? I made a list and contributed to a post or two on this forum regarding reasons I had the sleeve, aka things I was looking forward to. I can truthfully say that I have had all of them--all of them--come true!!! Maybe posting your own list of things you're looking forward to would help you re-focus off the current problems and onto the reasons you did the surgery? Meanwhile, hugs and hang in there. You're at one of the most difficult points in the process--that stupid stall makes people think they went through all the pain and expense for nothing, when it's actually just your body getting used to everything.
