    vegetarian/ vegan sleevers

I looked up recipes and figured it out. Despite being a vegetarian for 9 years I have not yet ventured into seitan yet. It does not appear appetizing.

    vegetarian/ vegan sleevers

I'm definitely interested in this, too. I have gone vegetarian and vegan a few times in my life. Each time I did, I felt a ton better and the brain fog lifted. Unfortunately, my self-control is lacking. I'm hoping to use the sleeve as a tool to go back to vegetarianism, and eventually veganism.
  3. Hi! Looking for fellow vegetarian sleevers to exchange MFP info with. I'm trying to reduce animal proteins two point five months out and would love to talk tofurkey! I'm ovo-lacto and moving mostly vegan.

    Comfort Food Saturday

Ok, vegetable soup is in the crock pot, although vegetable stew will be closer to the truth. Used vegetable broth rather than beef or chicken so I will be able to share it with a vegetarian co-worker.

    veggie woes

The issue is that space in my tummy is valuable real estate now and it seems to be an all Protein neighborhood! I picked up some vegan Protein shakes today which ima try to sandwich my day with so I can at least fill one meal with veggies. I'm a vegetarian and the whey protein, cheese, yogurt, eggs and tofu diet is starting to make me sick! I'm only 2.5 months out.

    Tasteless Protein :)

Soy is an excellent source of protein with the same digestibility score (PDCAAS) as whey, milk and egg proteins. And since it's a vegetable protein, soy is ideal for vegetarians or vegans. Some concerns have been raised regarding hormonal effects of soy protein but clinical studies have been unable to identify any conclusive cause and effect link. The majority of doctors recommend whey as their first choice but milk, egg and soy are all good alternatives.

    June Post Ops!

Hi everyone! I haven't been on in a while as there have been some drastic changes! I have accepted a new position & relocated to another state! And I must say it's weird because people don't know me 80+ pounds heavier. I get some questions about my eating choices but all in all I',m loving the change. I do have a question... Is anyone else STARVING?! It seems like every 2 1/2 hrs I am starving... Not like a "oh, I could eat" More like, "I could consume a baby animal I'm so hungry!" (no offense vegetarians)...Anyone else go through this? Any suggestions? I am so afraid of creeping back up that scale (I've only lost 10lbs in the last month). Any snack ideas? does anyone have an example of what they eat in a day? I could use any advice anyone has to give!! I've missed this forum & can't wait to read everyone's updates. Thanks!

    Alternative to Noodles?

I used to eat shiritaki noodles all the time when I was a vegetarian. The texture takes some getting used to and you need to rinse them REALLY well and let them dry pretty well to help with the texture, but then they are fantastic and super low in calories.

    Confession: Need a reboot

Your life is gonna be what you make it. Do what kick starts you. Go to a dr. Pay for a series of exercise classes. Go a vegetarian cooking class. Whatever helps YOU. No one else can really make those decisions for you. Happy you have the band already. Recommit to it?? Best of luck Ps. Lots of us have veered off track Gotta get back on hopefully !

    Count down begins

Hi SA, downloaded the book on your advice, I agree it really looks great and will keep me busy reading for some time. My tips for the pre-op diet (and this will probably depend on the diet you are given), but if its Optifast - the Choc flavoured bars are really good and I ate loads of free salads and veggies. I am Vegetarian so this bit wasn't too hard, I did really miss having milk in coffee though. If you get stuck out and about without planned food the Subway salad bowl with all salads saved me heaps of times. As for Hospital - no real tips on what to pack, just the usual stuff. I'd probably say if you are planning to have any visitors to hospital leave it until the second day. I went in on a Thurs and was discharged Mon. Good luck with the Nut next week, if its anything like mine you will come back with pre-op, post op and beyond diet info. This is all very useful but also very well covered in your book.

    Egg protein powder

I use the Jay Robb unflavored, but I usually put it in something that is otherwise pretty strongly flavored. (smoothies and Soups, mostly) It mixes mostly okay. What really screws it up bad, though, is getting it too hot in Soup (like you try to reheat your soup in the microwave because you can't possibly eat it before it gets cold...) I like to try to get a variety of Proteins so I'm not getting the exact same thing all the time. I haven't found any Protein that I actually "like". They all are in the "tolerate" category. Pretty much, they all suck and I have to think of them like I think of medicine. Good luck! Egg white protein is definitely a viable option if you aren't tolerating whey very well. There are also a lot of vegan protein powders on the market. You want to look for one that is a mix of a variety of sources, just like a vegetarian would combine food to get a complete amino acid profile. The last thing I hear/read is that where people used to be told that they needed a complete combination in each meal, the reality is more like they should just get the combo within the same day. Also... there really isn't any need to fear soy for the phytoestrogens, but I wouldn't make it a large part of your supplementation. Never hurts to be cautious... I would steer clear of single source Pea Protein, though. It's good for you, but tastes like the starchiest, nastiest old pea on the vine and tends to be really gritty. Definitely NOT nummy! Good luck!
  12. Great advice. Switching things up is a great idea, be it food, exercise, etc. Try going vegetarian for a couple of weeks, that should shake things up (still get in your protein!). Try more Water (10 cups a day). Add in a 5 or 10 minute run if you are not a runner. Try lifting some weights for a few weeks. Some people like the 5:2 program (see other posts about that).

    High Protein Fish Masala Curry

I love masala curry - anyone vegetarian can always substitute meats with chick peas or squash (squash by the way with it's natural sweetness is wonderful) but masala base works with a lot of veggies.
  14. I ate vegetarian chili for lunch but then had fried calamari fries with beer BEFORE dinner :0

    Feeling Stupid...

Attended a luncheon award ceremony for a co-worker yesterday. Whole group of us got together to go. Most know I had lap band surgery and know about the problems I've had plus the corrective surgery. Since the problems have come back, I've been reluctant to say anything as even to my own ears it sounds stupid to have undergone another expensive surgery to end up right where I was before. To be safe I ordered the vegetarian option as that's generally safe and soft. Thought I'd be okay with a couple of small bites of salad. One grape tomato and a piece of curly endive the size of my thumb nail and I was off to the bathroom hoping to find it empty. Got the problem resolved and had a cup of coffee - sometimes the heat helps especially when I'm wearing a bra. Managed half of my veggie lasagna(blando) and dessert(nice, soft mousse) and got to appear normal. Keep trying to convince myself that I'm fine and that the surgery had to have fixed the problem. It must all be in my head and if I just don't think about it everything will normalize. Been up since 8am - working from home today. Finally decided to eat. Bowl of raisen bran with skim milk. Three bites and blocked. Man do I feel dumb.
  17. Look on line at the calories/nutritional value. I am pretty sure their beans are seasoned with bacon, but that is still your choice. I would eat about 1 TB of refried beans when eating out, and some times they are 'vegetarian' and some times they are not. I did eat FF refried beans at home with a sprinkle of 2% cheddar in them. Yum!
  18. I am losing so slowly and some days I wonder if I'm doing it all wrong? I'm 5 months out and have lost 42lbs which is nowhere near as quick as a lot of you in this timescale. I am vegetarian. I try to stick to 800 cals per day but sometimes I creep over that. I was a slow loser pre-surgery due to PCOS and hyperthyroidism but I really hoped this would work. Don't get me wrong, I still think it will get more of my weight off but I'm beginning g to wonder if I'll actually get to goal weight. I still have around 70lbs to lose and I'm not too sure it's going to get me there. I am trying to follow all the rules but I'm worried.

ARG! Food is evil today and restaurants stink!

Perhaps your anxiety is causing your body to react in this way. I know everyone is different etc. but there should at least be a handful of things you could choose to eat on a menu? Fish options? Vegetarian options? Sometimes I even order the cheese and biscuits which are a dessert option and I have mainly the cheese... If you're not so anxious you will find yourself relaxing and enjoying a meal more. When I had my band, I used to be terribly anxious and almost without fail, I'd walk in a restaurant, and even the first mouthful of soup would have me vomiting in the bathroom. Eating out can still be a very pleasurable experience. I'm off to meet a friend at an Italian restaurant this afternoon.. I'm having roasted monkfish and prawns on a bed of sweet potato mash. Yes I'll only probably manage half the portion or less and a mouthful of mash, but I'm still out enjoying myself.. It can be done

    Crazy question, but ...

I felt hungry, after the test to make sure there were no leaks a few sips of Soup and apple sauce and i was happy. I too didn't need any pain meds (used gasx for 3 days though - THAT was not a joyful feeling *l*). I am 30 days out now (down about 24 pounds). I "nibble" throughout the day - I only want a few bites or rather NEED only a few bites.I am back to eating normal foods but finding as time goes on I just eat because i have a knawing in my stomach and I walk 1 hr - 2 hrs a day on my treadmill (i break it up into 3-4 sessions). I juice 2x a day and it takes me all day to finish off 2 glasses. I did have "head" hunger the first week while on Clear liquids. I was drinking a cup of broth every hour it seemed. I don't like processed foods so I did without the Jello and Protein shakes. But I am doing well on vegetarian fare. Since I can eat Beans now and I do the green smoothies and juices I feel much better. Good Journey! Dominga

    June Post Ops!

Hi Junies! I'm doing ridiculously well, in fact maybe too well...been falling into some bad food habits. Some things like crackers and even candy go down soooo easily. I'm clearly not a 'dumper', so I have to watch the sugar! I'm vegetarian -pescatarian really, shellfish only- and for Protein I do yogurt, Beans, and nuts mostly, plus one 30 gram Protein Shake in the morning. In restaurants I do well with shrimp, scallops, and mussels. I'm loving eating salad again too, kind of crave it. Having trouble with getting many veggies in, but once again I think it's bad habits as opposed to them disagreeing with me. Soooo...gotta work on the food it never ends! Down 68 lbs though!
  22. Nutrition class today, think I'm going to talk to her about becoming a vegetarian. Been wanting to go that way for a while.

  23. Just wanted to chime in and say hang in there! it sounds like you're making good progress, albeit not as quickly as you'd like. Think what it will be like once you get the drill down! You said you are a vegetarian, but you didn't mention vegan. So... here are some ideas. This is my meal plan (I'm almost a month out) and I get my Protein in every day: Bkfst: Protein shake Snack: String cheese Lunch: 1/2 cup refried Beans with 1/8 cup lowfat shredded cheese Snack: Dannon light and fit greek yogurt Dinner: Depending on where I am on the protein, I will go with 1/2 c cottage cheese or an egg over hard with 1/8 cup lowfat cheese. If I don't need the protein, I will go with tomato Soup or butternut squash soup (etc). . I realize this is a lot of dairy, but it is working for me GOOD LUCK! You can do this!
  24. Hi everyone, I NEED your help. I'm feeling very desperate right now!!!! I was sleeved on 6/3/2013 and have lost only 35 lbs since then. I saw on this website that people who were sleeved in June have lost almost double the amount I have lost. I don't know how to eat right. I'm eating small quantities of the same food I used to eat before surgery. I haven't changed my diet. I don't exercise. Plus I'm on some meds that make it difficult to loose weight. I'm doing EVERYTHING WRONG!!!!!! PLZ PLZ ADVISE ME HOW TO LOSE WEIGHT AGAIN!!!! I'm not loosing ANYMORE!!!!! I'm a vegetarian and have hard time finding Proteins. I'm eating way TOO MANY sweets!!!! I feel like I don't have control over myself anymore like before surgery. I'm hungry all the time or I skip meals. I'm also not following the Water rule and drink water right after I eat. Do I have to eat Protein at every meal?? PLZ ADVISE.......

What's on your "Do Not Eat" list?

All meats! I became vegetarian 2 years ago because I became tired of eating all meats. I was only able to eat chicken and it had to be in a sauce or roasted. Along with the "stuck" episodes and the health factor, I just gave up all meats. Everything else is pretty much fine now!
