May 2006 Band Crew ~ July Chat

Hello everyone! I haven't had a chance to post in a bit since I've been so busy. Work has really been work lately. And my shift schedule doesn't help. But I had kind of an accidental NSV on Sunday. I had asked my husband on Saturday to throw my work clothes into the washer. And of course he thru them in along with a bunch of other stuff.....too many clothes in the washer! When I got home from work, my son stuck the stuff in the dryer and I figured I would just grab my jeans and stuff out in the morning. Well....my alarm goes off the next morning at 3 am like always and I turn it off and go back to sleep!!!! When I finally do wake up, it's 10 till 4 am -- I'm usually gone by that time -- so I get up in a panic, run to the dryer and MY CLOTHES ARE STILL DAMP! Ick! Well, I had bought a new pair of pants on Thursday and they were still in the bag at the end of my bed. Even though they are a size 18, smaller than anything I've worn in years, I was desperate and grabbed them, took off all the tags and prepared myself to slither into them, hoping they weren't too tight to get on. Not only did they pull on easily, I didn't even have to suck it in to zip! I was amazed! They fit right, they were loose, they didn't cut into me......WOW! It was great! Also, after two weeks of losing nothing, all the sudden, this past week I lost 5 lbs. It's weird.....I work so hard and lose nothing, then on a week where I work 6 days out of 7 and really don't exercise too much, that's when I lose. It's so frustrating, but when it finally comes off, it is exciting. I just hope it keeps coming off. Right now I'm doing ok for our challenge. I just have to keep it up. Yesterday was our 27 anniversary and we went to dinner and a movie (Nacho Libre -- silly but funny). At dinner I actually made good choices -- Alaskan King Crab and a salad. But when we went to the movies, I kept stealing my husband's popcorn. It still wasn't as much as I would have eaten before, but it was popcorn with butter. Today I need to get back with the program and forget about popcorn. Though it really tasted good......... Well, gotta get going! Have a great day!

May 2006 Band Crew ~ July Chat

Good Morning everyone! I know I have not posted for a long time! I am doing great! I wanted to share a few things: First off I am down 35 lbs since my May 4th Surgery. A total of 97 lbs since January. I feel great. I am now working with a personal trainer. Me in a gym I never in my life thought would happen. But I enjoy it ! My husband and I spent the weekend camping and boating. We spent most of the last four days on the beautiful Puget Sound ( Washington St.) The best part was my NSV: this year I am able to get in and out of the boat with out any problems. In the past I have looked like a whale getting in and out of the boat with rolling up on to the swim step and then rolling in to the boat or having to have help getting in. It was so nice to climb on to the swim step and feel great. I was also able to climb in while the boat was on the trailer. I"m so excited about it! We had such a great time! the eagles were everywhere and Oh how I wish I would of brought a camera. This was the first big weekend where I was faced with lots of food around me! it was hard. as when when we camp many people have chips, deserts, candy,ect.... just sitting out and about for all to eat! but I made it just fine! When tempted I would just walk to the the beach or go for a swim. I made sure that I swam daily for a hour! it was exercise for the past 4 days. I just wanted to share! next year I will be water skiing!

    So tell me about you.....

When were you banded? 7/6/05 What was your weight ON DAY OF SURGERY? 204 What is your weight now? 177 What size do you wear? 12/14 How tall are you? 5' 5-1/4" Goal: (whichever is first) Goal weight: 135 (hope to achieve by my 26th birthday) NSV - fit into a pair of low rise Guess denim I own size 28 junior*, with back zipper, back button so I can't force it if it's too tight * I have not been this size since my pre-teen days - but I bought this couple years ago at the time size 29 fits perfectly thinking it'd make me lose a few pounds - but of course things didn't work out as plan and the pair of denim has been sitting in my closet since then. And I have to say that my yo-yo dieting days are over! Soon, I'd be able to reduce the contents of my closet by 2/3 since I have huge wardrobe because I have things range from my thin days size 12 to my "fat" days size 16. Anyone with me???
  4. Wow, that is amazing. Congrats on such a wonderful and meaningful NSV.

    3 pound weight loss

Congratulations, Crystal! Slow weight loss sucks, but when you eat as much ice cream as I do, it's a part of life. I dropped out of the summer challenge because of my female trouble; I'm going even more slowly than you are. A grand total of 0.5 lbs. down since June. By the time I'm dead, I might be able to wear a size 10 in my casket. But I feel great and, like you, things fit better, even if the scale doesn't show much of a change. Keep up the great NSVs!
  6. Here's the background data. I took an early retirement package from my employer at the end of December of 2011. They were having some tough times financially and wanted to reduce costs - so when they offered the package, I accepted it. I took a gamble on myself and my skills being marketable in the bad economy. Not a fun time to be in the job market. For those of you who haven't looked for a job recently - it is completely different than it was even two years ago. If you don't know how to use social media, have a great "content-rich" resume, and are willing to network almost continuously, you are going to have a difficult finding a new job. I am 55 years old, and am competing with "kids" half my age and willing to take less money than me for the very same job. Here's the NSV - I received four job offers! The first was about 3 weeks ago, for a contract position - which I accepted. That seemed to bring all sorts of other good things my way. I received three additional job offers in the last ten days. All three of them were good offers for permanent positions (if any jobs these days are really "permanent"). I had the amazing task of deciding which one was the one I wanted - because I would have accepted any one of the three. I did a little negotiating with the companies - to maximize the offers - and picked the winner. I resigned from my contract job, accepted the job I decided on, and told the other two companies, "no thanks". I think the fact that I had successfully lost 100+ pounds and am a "normal" weight both really helped me have a successfull job search. I believe the confidence boost I got from having beat my personal demon carried over into my interviews. I know people looked at me differently during the interview process at a size 12 petite than they would have at a size 26W. I didn't have to worry about hiring managers or human resource people worrying about the costs of insuring an obese person. I think I look younger than I did 100+ pounds ago - and younger is definately better in today's job market. It is going to be nice at the new company to just be known as "Sharon - the new woman" rather than "Sharon - the fat woman who is new". I look forward to planning what I will be wearing the first week of work! Sharon

    Hey June 25 Sleevers

1st NSV! Just went through all the pants in my closet. Found about 10 pair that were "too big" and only 4 that were "too small". The greatest thing is that I have some from 2005 and 2009 that were snug back then and now are "just right!" I also bought a new pair of pants yesterday, size 16! When I started this journey, I was a size 22! I'm so excited that I pulled all those pants from the "back of the closet" and can now wear them!

    NSV!

SO, I've been feeling a little down lately with my plateau at 40 lbs out. I've been slightly depressed with some life events and what not, and my scale just doesn't move. I am in Vegas now with a friend for a girls weekend. I have no shorts that fit so she grabs me a pair. Now, I started my journey wearing a tight 18. Today I put on a 10!!!!!! I've been wearing a 12 for awhile now so this was huge! It has shown me that the changes I've made recently are in fact making changes. I couldn't believe I put on a pair of size 10 jean shorts. Definitely feeling good about myself!

jekbird, Here is my favorite link before I go to get a fill. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/increase-your-chances-t22611.html Grats on the NSV that is awesome!
  11. I can't think of any new NSVs for me lately. Many of the same old ones keep happening and I don't think I'll ever get tired of them. I do love reading everyone else's NSVs though. It helps me stay motivated and makes me happy for everyone.
  12. Wow,,, that's amazing ! It just goes to show. That once we are Banded, There's NO ! stopping at what we will, or can do. Keep up the Great Work, and take 1 step for me, because I am unable to do anything like that with artificial knees.. But,,,, I did walk 2 miles home today after completing part of my Gym class.. I am glad I am in training, or I would not have made it. But I am, and I did ! So there is another NSV for today.....

    You won't believe this NSV

If you don't already, carry some trail mix or string cheese and a bottle of Water everywhere you go. I used to faint when I was normal sized (ah, to be thin again... soon!) because I was hypoglycemic. Blood sugar would crash, and down I'd go. It happened with some regularity until I brought Snacks with me. If you feel faint, eat a few bites and it should pass. This is if I'm correctly understanding the issue. I'm glad you had a positive experience with the EMTs and lack of embarrassment - I definitely understand! But fainting can be dangerous depending on where you are. I've heard of folks suffering from fairly serious head injuries from fainting in the bathroom and hitting the sink or tub, for example. You can't control how you fall. It's like one second you're standing up, then your vision clouds and hearing goes into a vacuum, and boom, you're awake on the floor surrounded by panicked faces. Congrats, though, on the NSV!

    You won't believe this NSV

Oh I know EXACTLY where you are coming from! I have not had anything like you experienced happen since I have had surgery (and I hope everything checks out OK for you!). I have lost over 200 pounds, and I know all too well the way I was treated “differently” as a morbidly obese patient! Earlier this month I had to go in for my first Colonoscopy (I am now 51). It was SO NICE to be treated like a ‘normal’ patient!! I think the only things that made me stand out was that I got really cold and I was dehydrated after the prep so my blood pressure was low and they had to give me IV Fluids. I would guess that these are two things they see in a LOT of patients – probably more that are close to a normal BMI (which I am). I am sure we all have stories that we could share about the horrible treatment by the medical establishment BEST NSV that I have read in a really long time! Thank you so much for sharing!! Carol

    Banded Teachers Talk - BTT

I'm not sure whether this was an NSV or not. I have lost a fair bit of weight and all my clothes are loose. I went to the kitchenette and the back of the classroom to get some water and my pants fell down! A few of my students saw I think but they did a good job pretending that they didn't. How embarrassing (in a cool way). Needless to say, I bought some safety pins on the way home.

    Can You Feel The Band?

About a week ago I experienced a NSV: being able to feel my port! Prior to that, I hadn't a clue where it was. I have read that people can feel the liquid moving theough the tube when they have a fill, but I don't feel a thing!
  17. I had a out patient procedure last week.... and had to put on a hospital gown. The nurse handed it to me... I realized I didnt have the mental anguish of wondering if it was going to fit. Which it did of course.... and even tied in the back. I just stood there grinning. I let my husband in on my thoughts and he just laughed.... Then as we were leaving a few hours later as per hospital protocol I had to be escorted out in a wheelchair.... and it wasnt the big girl wheel chair... it was just a regular one. Both of those NSV just helped me sail through my minor procedure....

    NSV anyone?

Speaking of wedding rings. I remember the day of surgery I could not get my rings off. They told me I could not have jewelry on the day of surgery. I was so depressed because I didn't think they would be able to perform the surgery. They had to put a piece of tape over it. Now, it slides around all the time. I guess that is a NSV. Rebeccalee, that is a good story. It is amazing what you can see once it is gone (belly flab)

    NSV anyone?

When I was preparing for surgery, the doc asked if my hysterectomy was a vertical or horizontal incision. I said I didn't know. I felt really dumb. But I ccouldn't easily see under my belly roll -- it took a good mirror and some contorsions. Well, now I know it was horizontal and runs right in the crease of my belly roll -- 'cause I can lift up my flabby ol' roll and look now. I think that's a NSV??
