What’s for dinner? The non cooks version.

I used to make something we called ’magic quiche’ which may be something you could make. Used to serve to the family so you may want to reduce ingredients sizes if you want to make something smaller. 4 - 6 good size servings - adjust recipe to suit Large Onion 6 x Medium Eggs, 4 x Low Fat Bacon Medallions 45g Mature Grated Cheddar 150ml Lighter Crème Fraîche or Cottage Cheese 100g Tomatoes, sliced 100g White Mushrooms, Raw salt/pepper/herbs of choice 1) grill bacon, roughly chop when cool 2) lightly fry onions in frylight spray or 1 tablespoon of water until soft, add mushrooms and cook through 3) beat eggs and crème fraiche/cottage cheese together, add seasoning and herbs of choice 4) add bacon, onions, mushrooms to a large rectangular Pyrex/non-stick dish 5) pour on egg and crème fraiche/cottage cheese mix 6) arrange sliced tomatoes on top, sprinkle on grated cheese 7) place in oven for approx 25 mins at 180 degrees (UK temps) until nicely brown 😎 slice in to 4/6/whatever portions when cool 9) keeps well for 3 days or so in a sealed container in the fridge, wouldn’t recommend freezing You can add whatever veggies you like eg peppers, broccoli etc, add ham or chicken in place of or in addition to bacon.
  2. Even though it's 4th of July and everything is closed, I'm doing some research today on new doctors that actually have knowledge about massive weight loss in patients who have had bariatric surgery. I plan to make some calls on Friday and set up a new patient appt or 2 (this time around, I'm interviewing them before I commit...neve ever thought I'd be doing THAT, lemme tell ya). I wasn't going to go to my appt on the 17th, but I think I still will to get my blood work done and my vitals, and to tell her that I'm seeing a new doctor and why. Actually, I want to tell the medical assistant because she'll put it in my chart. At this point, I'm not sure if the doctor will. I know I'm due for my 6 mo ekg in office, my full vitals, my meds refilled, and my blood work. I want all of that done before I go to a new doctor so they have the most recent and up to date records on me and the most accurate place to start. I will NOT be entertaining any discussions about phentermine or losing more weight. I may go ahead and lose those 3 pounds that @ShoppGirl mentioned, that way nobody can say anything either way. But still.... I'm leaving that practice no matter what. I'm not happy or comfortable there at this point.

    An Up And Down Week

Oh, saaaame. I'm in a stall right now, and my inner voice was trying to convince me not to weigh in this morning until after a bowel movement, but also to do it before eating breakfast (as if the cereal and almond milk were somehow going to raise my weight by noticeable pounds?) I do try to do it at roughly the same time on weigh-in days (I'm trying to stick to twice a week but during a stall I should probably go once a week lol), but that's more for my neuro-spicy brain. Sometimes the things my ED brain tells me are kind of ridiculous.
  4. the SADI is a fairly new surgery and isn't very common - which is probably why the office staff isn't that well versed in it. Although if the surgeon is going to be offering that surgery, they really need to get the office staff up to snuff, because they're the people you're usually going to see when you're there as far as red, purple, yogurt, and fudgsicles, they're probably talking about the day or two before the surgery, and not the regular pre-op diet that many of us have to do for a week or two before the surgery. I've had about four surgeries, plus a couple of colonoscopies, and having a completely liquid diet for the day or two before with nothing red or purple is pretty standard with any procedure. They don't want anything in your G/I tract (that's why they say only liquids), and red and purple fluids look like blood on the equipment they use, so they tell you to avoid anything red or purple.

    Update! How is everyone?

Knew all these - watch too much American tv I think 😂. Don’t believe 3/4 of the Aussie slang people stereotypically think we use like I’ve never said gidday to anyone or called anyone a cobber (a friend). Most aren’t commonly used at all or haven’t really been in use for a long time. Many words are abbreviations or shortened forms of words - we’re great at doing that. Like cossie is short for swimming costume. In general, we’re more English in our vocabulary (& spelling). Except the young ones are adopting more & more Americanisms.

    August Surgery buddies

Hello @BigDane looks like we Will be pretty much be going through the stages together. How is the preop diet going? I was told by the nurse that since he didn’t mention a preop diet I just needed to do a two day liquid diet but last time he had me do a week long liver shrink diet first. I’m just going to do that to be safe. The smaller the liver is the safer the surgery is with the added bonus it’s less weight to lose after.
  7. So before anyone tells me to look on the boards, I have. the closest thing I can find is info from 2009. I have googled up a storm and of course got a bit concerned. Symptoms: my hands itch like crazy! I have literally taken a nail file and scratched and scratched. at times it has extended up my arms to my elbows and then stop. then my leg would start itching and then stop. Then my chest began itching. stopped. Now I have this rash that is right around the area where the port was removed, but it does not itch. I have been keeping the area clean (disinfecting 2x per day with spray), so even that does not make sense. Then out of the blue after itching for hours. It will stop entirely. Has anyone else had this happen? I have read it could be (worst case) a blocked liver bile duct to (best case) not enough fat in diet or being low on B6 & B12 I am currently 15 days out of surgery and following the yellow brick road to the letter. The itching began about 3-4 days ago. If I cannot get some answers I will head to urgent care tomorrow...but it is a 3 day weekend, so I cannot even get ahold of my primary care physician. anyone? help?
  8. So my doctor has me seriously ticked off. She told me she'd like to see my weight and bmi down. I said "WHAT???? I weigh 183 and my bmi is 30. What's wrong with it???" She told me she wants to see my weight around 155 or 160 and me at a normal bmi. I was like "if I do that, I'll look sickly!!! I've always been bigger boned and somewhat curvy, I carry my weight differently. Not one person would look at me right now and think I look like I weigh 183. No way would I look healthy if I went down to 160" and she said it would be better for my health and I should at least think about it. I told her "my blood pressure already runs on the low side of normal. I struggle to keep it up to 103/55!!! My A1c is 5.0 and my glucose is 96. I'm not on any meds except what I take for my MS. All my labs come back perfect. What else do you want??" I told her I feel amazing, I'm really active, I'm able to work as a clinical medical assistant for a busy specialty practice (infectious disease) which has always been my dream, I hike, I work out, literally I'm living the life I only dreamed about. What am I missing here???? I was so mad. And she said we'll discuss it at our appt on the 17th. I said "oh we'll discuss some stuff, alright, but that ain't happening". She's going based off my height, weight, bmi, and their supposed "ideal weight" BS. My bariatric surgeon is ecstatic with my progress. He actually said I've lost more, with both surgeries, than he realistically expected that I would. My neurologist is thrilled because losing all the weight has significantly improved my MS symptoms. My gastroenterologist is thrilled because all of my GI issues have gone away. Just this idiot yahoo isn't happy. I definitely think I need a new doctor. This is just too much. For reference, here's what I looked like when I first started seeing her, and here's what I look like now, literally this week....as in Monday and yesterday.....

    Modified Duodenal Switch

I can't take any oral iron, so I'm not sure, really. I can't imagine a reputable company like them would put a fatal amount of iron in their product, as it would be very bad for business. 🤣 I just get iron infusions when my iron gets low, but it is ideal to take it in pill form if you can absorb it... You could try a few days a week and then have your levels checked to see if they are responding to the dosage. It is not usually a bad thing to start slow and ramp up if you aren't getting your levels up. And be sure to talk to your surgeon about it, as they can help guide you to what is a safe dose and do labwork regularly to be sure you aren't getting too much. ❤️

What’s for dinner? The non cooks version.

I’m pretty simple too - if I can’t do it in 20 minutes not interested (for every day cooking) & I have favourites I cook on repeat. Plus all the leftover meals in my freezer, I actually only cook a couple of times a week. Most is reheating & only cooking vegetables. Honey is like sugar in that it is an added sugar so check with your team as to how much you can have each day post your Sadi. But it’s not.that you’ll be eating it everyday anyway not eating a huge portion. You can always reduce the amount of honey in the recipe if you’re really concerned. Personally, I like honey soy sauce marinated chicken or pork & cook it a couple of times a month. I’d share my recipe but I’m a ‘that looks about enough’ or ‘I’m not adding that much’ of an ingredient cook - a recipe is only a guide not a rule. I’d google easy mahi mahi recipes or easy beef (what ever the cut) recipes & see what looks interesting. It’s what I do sometimes.
  11. I had my consultation and my psych eval. I’m just waiting on my recommendation letter from my pcp and because I already see a therapist, they had to also write a brief note. Assuming they come back positive, I’m cleared to move to the next phase. Which that is getting a letter sent to my insurance for approval of my surgery. Once it’s approved I can move to the pre surgery blood work. I do hope they get their letters in this week!

    May 2024 Surgery Buddies 😁

I have just found this site today. I had my gastric sleeve May 21 thought I was doing ok but see others are zooming way ahead of me. I have lost 10.7 kg since surgery (exactly 6 weeks ago). I only lost 400 grams on my liver reduction diet. According to weight charts, I need to lose 80 kg more, but I would be thrilled with 63kg. I am currently 137.9 kg.
  13. Mine are literally sliding off my finger! I keep telling myself to go and resize them but I haven't made the time. Had they not been new (my hubby upgraded my whole set to a stunning 4 carat emerald on our 10th anniversay, which was only 3 months prior to my surgery) I would've just gotten new ones. I love my ring though and I just put "resize ring" on my to-do list!

    An Up And Down Week

Stalls are literally the worst 😂 I am trying to keep that same mindset - once my body has recalibrated, it'll go back to losing, but the devil side of my brain is telling me: "weigh yourself after a bowel movement" 😂 Send help 💀

    Pre-Surgery Bucket List

Me and hubby have had this food conversation recently. On my list is Pizza Hut, a fillet steak dinner and a chippy tea. Other than that, I can’t really think of anything else that I would want, maybe a burger at some point but I think everything else can wait and be adapted post-op or shared with hubby (though not chippy tea as he hates it 😳) We are off to London soon, staying in a posh hotel for 3 nights so I know that I will probably lose the run of myself come breakfast time! I’ve already scoured food places around where we’re staying and around Covent Garden. Greek is on the list and booked as I like chicken souvlaki, which I know is a relatively good choice. Other than that I will just play by ear. I know it’s our last break away for a long time so yes, there will be some indulgences but I will still try and keep some form of control!
