    First Major Stall

I am totally with you. I am about 15 weeks out and have been on a very frustrating 3 week stall. I dont feel like I've changed my diet or exercise other than maybe I should be working out 5-6 days a week instead of 3-4. I also get in about 30-40g of protein a day and am wondering if that's affecting my diet and hair loss. Keep up the good work so far!!
  2. i am still pre op but please seach 3 week stall on here. it will give you really good insight as to whats happening and what to expect. good luck to you and keep your head up! congrats on the weight loss so far!!!
  3. So Im 6 months post-op and down 91.5 pounds. I have just dropped 4 pounds after a 3 week stall and then dropping my cals super low for 2 days. My problem is today I am feeling super hungry! It is most likely just in my head but I am thinking of food all the time.On days like this I do tend to grab something here, take a bite there and even though I dont do more carbs I do more calories. Why am I the only one that feels 800 calories are so little? I track on fitday.com com as MFP seems to be geared to the US food market and I find fitday so much easier but damn,my 800 is finished long before the day. And please tell me,how are you ok on a Protein shake for dinner?(I often see people doing just that) I just cannot give up on the idea of eating food. Not rubbish but real food. How do you overcome the head that thinks about food?why is this so difficult for me? Please help!
  4. Was sleeved June 14th at Abington Hospital in PA w/Dr G. I started out at 5'3" weighing 229 lbs & am currently 167.2. I'm feeling great! I had about a 3 week stall due to sickness/acid issues/starvation mode but I saw the scale start to move a little more!! Can't wait! So, according to my starting weight I am down approx 62 lbs in a little less than 3 months! =) Super excited! How are YOU ALL doing?? What are you eating?? Are you exercising? I've been very active BUT not exercising due to lack of time! Really wish I could/would....that's my new goal!

    Attitude Adjustment

Hi To be petrified at this point is what I would have been. You know,I think that pre-op we are sometimes plain stupid.I thought people that stalls,cheated...right?Now after my 3 week stall I know sooo much better. You just have to remember there are only 2 kinds of people on earth. Those who get it and those who dont! Of course the fear and the doubt will be part of your life until the leak is healed. You should just take this day by day, baby steps for now.Dont do too much.Be super gentle with yourself.Dont read stuff that seems unrelated to where you are at.If you need to vent tell people on the board thats stupid to get stuffed. You have the right to just be at the moment. And the one thing that everyone can be guaranteed of in life is that bad things will happen to us.At some point,to each and everyone of us.Today is your turn tomorrow might be mine. But this too shall pass.Lots of patience and careful living for now. I will pray that this whole ordeal can be over quickly for you to start enjoying this great new life that awaits you for the rest of your life. xxo

    Early Stall?

The process that initiates the 3 week stall will start when you start a calorie restrictive diet. So if you had a very restrictive preop diet, that started the process of burning your glycogen stores. As for the "3 weeks"....it could be give or take a week or 2. It's not the same for everyone. You may have burned through your glycogen stores faster than other people and now your body is refilling those stores, which is what causes the stall.

    Early Stall?

Uh oh, this is day 3 that the scale has not moved. After watching it go down so quickly it is a bit frustrating and concerneing that i may have hit a stall so early post op. Tomorrow marks 2 weeks. I did just change to pureed food 2 d ago...could that have something to do with it??? Have not started excercise as it has only been 2 weeks. I have read every post on stalls and was thinking that maybe this was m y 3 week stall but does anyone know if people refer to the 3 week stall as 3 weeks from surgery or from pre op diet and sugery? I am down 23 lbs from start of pre op diet on aug 13 th. But 16 of those pounds were during the liquid diet phase. I am freaking out a little bit ( i know its probablly ridiculous) but am only down 7 pounds from surgery and less than 2 weeks out with a stall. Any one with any kind of similar experience? I'm trying to remain calm : )
  8. Hi Just my take on this.It might be clouded by my current 3 week stall though..lol I am 6 minths out and all of a sudden I am thinking of food way to often.I am also hungry.Real stomach hungry,a feeling that I suppose is hunger (never felt hungry before in my life as I was always eating) As a 45 year old habitual dieter that's not been at my goal weight for over 20 years and having to constantly tell myself not to eat now at 6 months out,I would have done the Ds if 1.it didnt have the bafhroom issues ans 2.the malabsorption of Vitamins were not so severe.I also would have considered the RNY if I havent seen so many of my friends gain 50 plus pounds 4 to 5 years after the RNY. So,the botom line is one will have to relearn to 1. eat only at meal times and not snack all the time,2.have self control in your choices 3. Make peace with all this, no matter which one of the surgeries you have. And if you can do that for the RNY or the DS then you can do that for the sleeve which at this time seems to be the surgery with less long term health issues in terms of nutrition. One thing though. It was so shocking for me when I realized that I can snack and that carbs do go down so easily.I am sure that if I snack all the time it would be possilbe for me to regain everything I have lost.I have no doubt about it.When we graze we usually choose high fat high calorie Snacks and rubbish goes down so easy with the sleeve. Permanent changes in the way we think about food and saying no to ourselves even when we dont want to is definetely necessary. But the sleeve is working for me and I am working on changing my bad patterns.Having said all this my close friend had the RNY,lost all her weight, eats great gourmet foods, stays at her goal and have more restriction than me,had right from the start. She had her surgery quite a few years ago and she's still doing great and she finds it so easy.

3 week stall is common. Hang in there!

    Stall

There's a link in my sig to a good article that explains your 3 week stall and why it's happening. The 3 week stall is about glycogen and water being restored back into your muscles after your initial weight loss. You're still losing fat, but you're storing water and that makes the scale freeze. Keeping your measurements will show that you are still making progress. Keep doing what's you're doing and the scale will soon start moving again.

4 Weeks Out/up And Down With Weight

Do a search on "3 week stall" then sit back an realize that what you are experiencing is completely normal. There are few people hat don't experience this.

    Hungry

Head hunger is very common at this stage. Just keep drinking your Water and Protein shakes. Once you start eating real food it will go away. Also, the 3 week stall is even more common. Nothing at all to worry about. Read the link in my sig. It will explain why and when it will end. Just be patient and hang in there.

    Milkshake?

The 3 week stall has nothing to do with needing to up your calories, so drinking a milkshake did not break the stall. You drank a milkshake....and the stall happened to break, the 2 things are not related. The 3 week stall breaks when your glycogen stores are replenished, and not before.

    So Annoyed

It's called the 3 week stall. Basically, once you start a reduced calorie diet your body starts burning glycogen for fuel because it's the most accessible fuel source. For every pound of glycogen you burn, you will use 4 pounds of Water weight as well. This accounts for everyone's initial and easy weight loss when they start a diet or have WLS. Once your body realizes that this calorie deficit is going to continue past the point of using all your glycogen stores, then it starts to burn fat. But at the same time it must refill your glycogen stores, along with that water weight which keeps the glycogen soluble. So at this point you are burning fat but adding water weight. If the fat loss does not outpace the water gain your weight will stall, but you are still burning fat. Once the glycogen and water weight have been restored, you will see the scale start to move again.
  16. 31 pounds - you are doing awesome! Are you noticing differences in your clothes? And you are in onederland! Has it been a while since you've seen those numbers? Man, I can't wait to. I know you're having a really hard time, and it sounds simply like it's awful right now. Have you tried many different types of shakes? Drinking faster/slower? Are you getting in Water? When I start getting low blood sugar I start feeling nauseous about eating. Are you getting enough in? I'm sure it's tough with the nausea. Are you prescribed anything for nausea? Maybe your doctor can send you in a script for something. I agree with others that maybe you should get your blood work checked. Also, are you on a PPI? I'm not sure if acid can cause nausea, but it seems like it's possible. I admit, even 5 weeks out I'm freaking exhausted often. I am getting all my Protein, water, etc, and I feel simply beat at the end of the day. But I try and remind myself that I will have energy once I am further out, eating more, and healthier. There was a time when I was stuck on my 3 week stall that I started to regret it, but now that I'm losing again, it was totally worth it. Most of all, you rock. You are strong for getting this surgery and for going through these hard times and when you come out on the other side you will be so proud saying to yourself "I MADE IT" So keep up the great work, see if you can get something for nausea, and hang in there.

    Stall

I was lucky enough to bypass the 3 week stall, BUT the 4 week stall got me! That silly scale will start moving again very soon. Hang in there and keep doing what you're doing!!!
  18. I can't believe I'm making one of these threads after reading the forums for weeks before my surgery and knowing what to expect. I learned about the 3-week stall and sure enough when 3 weeks rolled around my weight loss stopped. The first week I took it in stride but now it's 6 weeks and I'm still not losing. I've only lost 23lbs since the day of my surgery and while that isn't a horrible number it's not a good number for me. 20 of those where in the first 2 weeks. The last 3 were lost in the next 3-4 weeks. Losing 1-2lbs a week is great.... but NOT when you're in month 2 post-op. These are horrible numbers and I didn't start out on the lower end, so no I don't believe I should be losing this slow. I'm only 5'3 and small framed with 100lbs to go, deep down I know I'm failing. It's so hard seeing others post they lost 60 pounds in 4 months for example when I now know I will never reach this. I'm very frustrated that I'm wasting the most optimal weight loss time. My doctor told me the first 6 months is when you lose the most and should take advantage and exercise as much as you can. Here I am at 2.5 months and still not able to get over this stall. And because you will ask, yes I've been exercising as much as I can, lately everyday. I believe I eat right. Yesterday was: 710 calories 68 Protein 30 carbs (-5 Fiber carbs) 33 fat 5 glasses of Water 429 calories burned exercising = 281 net calories Wednesday: 602 calories 73 protein 21 fat 29 carbs (-6 fiber carbs) 5 glasses water 684 calories burned exercising = -82 net calories The only thing I'm low on is water (but since some of my food is liquid I do hit the minimum). Adding more exercise hasn't broken the stall. I was at around 500-600 calories and upped it to around 700 and that hasn't broken it. I'm not sure what else to do except going back to full liquids. I dread that because it felt like a diet and I was miserable. I had days where I broke down and cried I hated that phase so much. I want to feel like I'm living life not living on a diet. Thanks
  19. "3 week stall" (which really isn't a stall) is almost something we need to expect... but no one tells us about. Honestly, don't try to break it. It's not really a stall, it's your body trying to adjust. You're seeing what goes in to your body, but you aren't seeing what's happening on the inside. Your body's kind of freaking out right now, trying to survive this famine. Your body doesn't know it's supposed to be eating less, your body just knows how to survive. To it, there's not much food, so it must be starving. Reserve energy "troops" are being mobilized out of bunkers like your liver and into your bloodstream. Your metabolism may have been given the order to lay low and avoid enemy fire. Your body is pulling resources like Fluid away from more well-fed troops and giving it to the ones who aren't doing so hot. All of this fluctuation is behind most things we call "stalls" (it's also behind most unexplainable or quick weight losses/gains). Your body is doing exactly what it should do. Don't have a knee jerk reaction and try to "fix" something, because there's nothing wrong and nothing to fix. If you try to fix, you're just going to throw things off even more. After about 5 or 6 weeks of this, then you can start looking at what you're doing and what you night be able to change, but even then you can do everything right and see no results. It's just a fact of being alive.

    Not Enough Protein

I could not stand the powder Protein drinks or any drinks for awhile. But someone suggested I add a banana and/or other fruit (I use banana and forzen strawberries which work like ice) and use almond milk or Silk instead of Water and it tastes tons better. Do not get me wrong, they still are not great and someday I can barely gag them down, but before I could not gag them down, so it is am improvement. So I do one shake in the morning (25 G protein since I do only one scoop and 8 oz liquid so less to drink) then I eat protein at every meal and if needed both Snacks. I am almost 3 months out and was able to start increasing my food around 2 months which broke my 3 week stall and being regularly losing since, about 3 pounds a week average. Just experiment and force yourself gag down the one you can handle the best. I now can tolerate the premixed ones, but they are too expensive to drink except for once in awhile when I am in a hurry in the morning or run out of bananas like today.
  21. The majority of us have a stall between 2-4 weeks post op. Most people call it the 3 week stall. It is pretty much your body going into shock from what you have done to it...lol. Just hold on, it will pass. You are WAY to early out to be worrying about weight loss. Just make sure you are getting plenty of fluids and as much protein as you can and you will see progress very soon. You are probably getting smaller right now, even without the scale moving

    Finally

Was finally able to up my calories and my 3 week stall broke. I was eating 100 grams of protein and 600 calories with no movement. Diet is 63 percent protein now and I get 800 calories. Found the sweet spot!

    August Sleevers?! Where Ya's At?

I cannot believe that it's been 23 days since I had my surgery! I honestly do not know where the time has gone. I am down 26.5 lbs since starting the pre op diet. I am in the midst of the 3 week stall, but know that after nearly 6 weeks of being at 500-800 calories/day, my body has some serious readjusting to do. I've been back at the gym for 2 weeks and every day feel a little stronger. I'm looking forward to going back to kettlebell classes next month. I know that is going to be a huge help in dropping weight and reshaping the body. So many of us starting this journey together! We are amazing!!

Congrats so far everyone!!! PS I never have taken my measurements...Should I be?
