    Dating

They should have singles mixers for patients of bariatric clinics. That would seem to be the ideal scenerio to meet someone who totally understands and is in the same place in life. Maybe suggest it at your support groups.

    Dating

I imagine the anxiety of having that conversation in a serious manor. UHG! I am in a FB bariatric group, and I know of a few couples who actually met in support groups and hit it off. I think that would be ideal in my situation. I think it tends to me more females than males in these types of groups which I guess could make things more difficult.

    Help with Vitamins

I agree with the above posters. Usually your Dietician will give you info about what your clinic wants you to take. My clinic is pretty basic on supplements. A bariatric vitamin twice daily, plus two 500 mg of calcium citrate, and the one thing they're different than most about is monthly B12 injections for the first year post op. Plus depending on your labwork post op, your vitamin/supplement regimen may change. Iron often has to be adjusted. Currently I take Bariatric Fusion chewables, but they're pretty gross. 🤢 I feel like I'll be switching to capsules very soon post op. I'm going to try Once Daily Bariatric Choice multivitamins. Any one else try these yet?

    Help with Vitamins

They are once a day multivitamin and they include your iron. I was also advised to take calcium citrate as well. I took the bariatric advantage chews for calcium in the beginning but later switched to an over the counter brand of calcium citrate that is a large pill.

    Help with Vitamins

For the first couple days you will definitely be taking small sips so you may want to go the chewable route if you don’t think you can swallow a pill that way. I found the bariatric advantage chewables to be tolerable. I switched to pro care health capsules soon after I was sure I could swallow them though because they aren’t cheap. I got samples from my nutritionist. I believe if you contact them they will send you samples through the mail.

Favorite sugar free and other low calorie sauces

I'm with some of the others, the SF stuff just doesn't do it for me. They taste off, leave me wanting, and are generally full of all sorts of bizarre ingredients that make them less food and more science experiment. I have learned to portion control the "regular" stuff and fully enjoy it. If I am eating 100g of pulled pork for instance, I really only need a very small amount of BBQ sauce to get the flavor I want and to be satisfied. So I might as well go for the good stuff, in appropriate amounts, and fully enjoy it vs. using more of the replacement and walk away still wanting more. All that being said, seems to me that G Huges is a fan favorite. That's what I've seen most frequently recommended in bariatric circles.

    Tracy's Journey

Congratulations on your loss. I haven’t yet shopped from the bariatric pal store. I do buy low calorie snacks from the grocery store that are empty calories though and have them on occasion. It’s obviously better if you can find ones you like with protein added so it actually fills you up. Keep up the good work.
  8. Thanks Tek I didn’t explain myself well. The nutritionist said to aim for 60-80g protein and no more than 600 kcals.. but has said nothing about sodium, fat etc. So I was wondering if there’s a calculator out there that is for bariatric patients telling us those levels to aim for? I am a small frame female, so taking 600 kcals is like 1/3 of the recommended for a healthy woman (more or less), however, due to the bariatric surgery and poor absorption, I need 60-80g protein at the moment. That is NOT 1/3 of the recommended, so I can’t just divide all the figures for “normal small women” by 3. If there is no calculator, maybe someone has been told by their nutritionist. Mine just shrugged!
  9. Hi guys! I'm pre op and currently on trt prescribed by endocrinologist with legal stuff bought from pharmacy. Anybody has experience with it and bariatric surgery. I hope testosterone will help me prevent muscle mass loss, before I was fat I've spend decent amount of time in the gym a any my lean mass is slightly above average. Trt was a lifetime decision so I intend to keep it that way. I will obviously consult it with endo and surgeon, but just curious if you have any experience. Have a great day!
  10. Hi everyone, Does anyone know of a chart that tells us how much protein, kcals, fats, carbs, fibre and salt we should eat as post-bariatric patients? Since I’m writing everything down, I feel like I should at least check that I’m not going over the top on salt, for example. I also suffer from constipation and I would like to try and manipulate my food to help - so it’s good to have base lines! The recommended daily allowance that we get on food labels in the U.K. is for standard diets of 2000kcals per day. Maybe I should just quarter that but I wonder if there’s a calculator out there that takes different sizes of people into consideration? Hope this isn’t a silly question. My brain is still very fogged up! 🌸

    Vitamins

I am coming up on my 1 year (next month) post-op. I take a comprehensive blood test every 3 months. The vitamins I have been using is the PatchAid multivitamin with Iron (daily patch), and in the evening I take one Barimelt ADEK. I also have collagen in my coffee in the morning and take 1 or 2 Bariatric Advantage calcium chews a day. For my hair loss, I started viviscal awhile ago.

    Vitamins

I take a bariatric-specific chewable multi-vitamin (I'm in Aus, so it would be a similar thing to what Bariatric Pal offers). Then I add a B12, Iron +C, Vitamin D, and my Hair Nails Skin + Collagen support supplement. The multi has the calcium I need, though I have a calcium supplement on hand anyway. My dietician is happy with all that, and my labs are great.

    Vitamins

I take pro care health multi with 45 mg iron. It’s a true once a day bariatric vitamin that was approved by my team. I also take an over the counter calcium citrate twice a day. I was taking the bariatric advantage chews though the last time I had labs so I can’t really speak about the brand of calcium yet. My labs have been great with the pro care health multi though.

    Bariatric Tampa

I'm a patient of Dr. Ashley Mooney at TGH Bariatrics. She's amazing! She removed my Lap Band last year and will be doing my revision to RNY in nine days.
  16. Just starting this journey after 66 years of being a yo-yo. I intend to get either the bypas or the sleeve (still educating myself). I have scheduled orientations at the two Bariatric Centers that I am interested in. I am wondering if anyone has had their surgery performed at either and if so, opinions. 1. TGH -USF Health Bariatric Center 2. Advent Health Bariatric Care Tampa? Thanks!
  17. This is a little older so not sure the OP needs the info but I’m sure someone does. I take the pro care health multi with 45 mg of iron. It is a true one a day capsule that is reasonably priced for a bariatric vitamin.
  18. Most likely your nutritionist will recommend you get in the habit of eating breakfast so that won’t be an issue anymore but if you choose not to or can’t for whatever reason. You most likely will be able to tolerate a multi without iron on an empty stomach. For MOST people it’s the iron that causes an issue. Pro care health is a bariatric vitamin that sells their one a day multi capsule with and without iron and with two different mg of iron. You will of course want to take the iron in a separate tablet at another time in the day with food. Nothing says you have to take your vitamin in the morning though. You can take it with dinner if that’s easier for you. Or lunch. Just don’t forget that if you take calcium as well it should be separated from the iron by like 2 hours.

    Wish you knew before surgery…

There really should be like a National clothing and shake swap for bariatric patients. Lol
  20. I'm sorry to read about what your husband and you, as his caregiver and health advocate are going through. I have no advice about the issues he's going through, but it sounds like you need a second opinion. I would head to an ER of a teaching hospital, one that hopefully has a bariatric program. My bariatric surgeon is a professor and operates at a teaching hospital. And she sees patients who haven't been helped by "regular" bariatric surgeons. If you were to take him to an ER that is a part of a teaching hospital with a local university, they will likely admit him and call in their bariatric/neuro teams and whatever other specialists that they deem necessary. It's worth a try. Keep us updated on his progress. I Googled and https://www.umc.edu/ has a bariatric program. Not sure how far away you are from Jackson tho. I wish you and him the best!
  21. So I started taking soft foods (scrambled eggs, tilapia and ground beef)…I have been holding it all well along with medication pills. Today I started the multivitamin chewable tablet and I threw up right after 5 minutes of taking. It was a big chewable tablet (Bariatric ultra vitamin solo) and I chewed properly but it all came out. Any guidance here on what should I do? Maybe I should start taking the capsules of multi vitamin because I have been taking other capsules (Tylenol, Antio biotics) just well. What non chewable vitamins are you taking daily?

I take the BariatricPal multivitamin with 18mg of iron, a D3 supplement, a calcium supplement, and a biotin supplement. And I also bought a year's worth of the multivitamin. They're great. I really like them. https://store.bariatricpal.com/products/bariatricpal-multivitamin-one-day-bariatric-capsule-18mg-iron?variant=32469011169357
  23. Hey Y’all! I am so worried about my husband! He had Rue & Y Gastric Bypass April 6th 2021 so he’s 1 year and 3 months post op and it’s been a NIGHTMARE!!! He has literally lost 200 pounds. He has always been a 220 pound man. He was diagnosed with COPD in 2017 and he was given massive amounts of steroids for all his lung trouble, which caused him to gain weight. At his heaviest he weighed 394lbs. He now weighs about 190lbs. We are both extremely proud of his Weightloss but y’all he literally CANNOT EAT ANYTHING! He THROWS EVERYTHING UP, even liquids. He constantly has abdominal pain. His Surgeon, his GI Doctor, and his GP family doctor are all stumped and none can figure out why. We found out the day of his Gastric Bypass that his stomach had twisted and flopped upwards and they thought that this was the reason for the abdominal pain and vomiting he was having before the surgery, but he’s still having severe pain and problems. Technically he didn’t have the surgery for Weightloss, he had the surgery because he was told by 2 different bariatric doctors that this was the answer to fixing his pain and nausea but they didn’t even know what the problem was and they still don’t. His Surgeon now believes that he could have a nerve problem or nerve damage and believes that is what is causing his pain and nausea. Have any of you had nerve damage that has caused you abdominal Pain, Nausea, and vomiting after your surgeries? If so, What was done for you and has it helped? Also, have any of you tried otc nausea patches from this website or any other and if so, do they work? He takes prescription nausea medicine but they do not work! I am very scared and very worried for him. He is 47 years old, his lung issues are under control but I fear for him nutritionally. He takes his supplements and he is getting IV FLUIDS (Banana Bag) every Friday but all this is really taking a toll on him physically and mentally. He is having another EGD scope to look in his stomach at the end of this month but they have done all this already and they never find anything. He does everything he’s supposed to do from having this surgery but he’s not getting any relief or any answers..

    Cooking post-op

There are a ton of great bariatric cookbooks out there that can easily be doubled for a family. I would say get a few and start introducing new/healthier meals now. No need to make super drastic changes, simple swaps add up over time (low fat cheese, lower carb options, more veggies, etc.). I also did Dinnerly for a while - its one of those meal prep services but it was the cheapest I could find and had lots of family friendly options. I would look for ones that were aligned to my goals and fit my needs but would still feed my family without complaint. My kids are older, and my husband is very easy going, so it wasn't terribly hard for us to make some changes. But honestly, even if it had been, I would have simply sat them down and explained that this is for my HEALTH and my LIFE. We are doing this as a family or they can eat cereal. I'll cook what I cook and they can eat it or not. Again, maybe not an option for every family, but in the end, they will need to suck it up and support you.
