  1. The focus of 2016 for me will continue to be centered on my health and weight loss journey. I plan to reach my goal weight by my birthday in March, but even if I don't I will continue my eating plan. I'm a bit of a foodie and love good food and wine but now realize that alcohol may need to drop off the menu along with the recreation of trying out new restaurants. My husband wanted to take me out for a big New Year's Eve dinner at a highly acclaimed restaurant, but when I saw the menu I realized I would be overeating ( several courses were being served) and over drinking. I didn't want to feel the regret of going off my plan and trying to eat all that food or the sting of him paying for food / wine I can't eat / drink. We opted for a fun evening with friends and I was able to take a few healthy appetizers for their buffet. Their celebration was alcohol- free. Surprisingly, neither one of us felt deprived and we had a great time. Even though this is sort of unrelated, I have been the recipient of some of my mom's estate - antiques and household items. Although I really love her, I'm not an antique kind of person contemporary and minimalist is more my style. The realization came that all stuff has been in my garage and storage for about 5 years, cluttering my space with its physical and emotional weight and costing extra money to store. My resolution is to find a way to let go of her things ( keeping the great memories of course) and lose the burden that having it entails. Having surgery has helped me to become lighter in so many ways that I cannot imagine the act of divesting myself of all the stuff I've been holding onto will not further enhance my journey going forward. So many things about having VSG have come as a surprise. I'm looking forward to more NSVs, optimizing my health and helping my hubby as he begins to lose weight too. Looks like we're off to a good start????????????????Happy New Year and wishes for your success to all my Bariatric Pals!

    NSVs and SVs!

I'm 5'1"... SW: 244; CW: 178; surgery 8/18/15 NSV: 1. I am an independent distributor for Young Living Essential Oils. I have a Facebook group to keep connected with my downline. There are several people in the group that have never met me or know me personally. I posted a video last night about one of the ways I use Lemon oil and immediately got 3 messages and a text about "how skinny/amazing you look!!" I didn't even think about how I looked when I did the video because I do them at least monthly... Sometimes more. It felt awesome! 2. I am now wearing a 15/16 jean and Large shirts comfortably but mediums don't look that bad. I wear scrubs and our logo tshirt to work and I've had to size down from 2XL to L. I was even having to stretch the bottom of the shirt to fit over my giant ass. 3. I've been taking a lot more hot baths lately because the Water actually covers me and I don't touch the sides anymore! 4. I know it's terrible for circulation but I cross my legs all the time...comfortably! SVs: 1. Last week I hit my "wedding weight" from 11 years ago which was the smallest I had ever been as an adult. 2. This morning I realized that I'm only 8 lbs from my drivers license weight... Which was a lie from the beginning! I hope to hit my goal weight of 135-140 by 1 year which will line up with our annual family photo shoot. I'd love to do some boudoir for my husband after I get to goal... Not during the family ones of course

    My First NSV-The Arboretum

Very happy for you, that was one of my goals too! I went this past summer and loved every minute! I wasn't tired & could have stayed longer. My husband agreed we'd go every year, I love flowers. The nsv's are countless.
  4. What an awesome NSV. My own experience is like yours, in that sometimes I look at clothes and do not believe they will fit ... AND THEY DO Recently bought some shorts in size 44 (I used to wear size 60 pre-op). When I looked them, couldn't believe I could fit in something so tiny. Yet they fit. PS Hoping your visit to HOT-lanta was a fun one. -RC-

    Im new: profile set up?

NSV = Non scale Victory Thats one you will want to know. -RC-
  6. Just before Christmas, I had the most marvelous experience. For the past 20 years, I have had to buy clothes in the BIG&TALL section, or in the era of on-line shopping, would have to pay up for larger sizes for Lee or Levi jeans. Would cost anywhere from $35-$50. Last week, I actually was able to buy Wrangler Jeans at a Walmart store right from the shelf, for $17. Its a wonderful thing! Happy New Year out there ... -RC-

    NSV: Hiked a mountain trail

Congratulations! This sounds awesome. I grew up in the mountains, but it has been decades since I have been able to hike up hill. This is an NSV I am looking forward to!
  8. While I have been happy with the weight loss progress that I have made since surgery in November, today was the first day that I felt genuinely excited. For years, I have wanted to take my wife to the Dallas Arboretum, which is a pretty spectacular 66-acre place near where we live. A trip there involves a good amount of walking. Since, before surgery, I would get out of breath just walking from the parking lot to my office or my back would be agonizing just waiting in line briefly for something, a day at the Arboretum was previously impossible. When I had my surgery in November, I swore that I would make enough progress to be able to do a trip to the Arboretum before the new year. That was today. All in all, we had a great time and I walked over 4.5 miles with no back pain and no breathlessness. I actually felt like a normal person! My knees hurt now, but I will take that.

    How about some NSVs!?!?

Another NSV for the day... I AM WEARING 1 (really, one ????) size fits all tights!!! WHAT???? Crazy talk I tell you!!
  10. Not sure if this counts as a NSV but I'm super excited to be down 21.7 inches over the last 6 weeks!
  11. Good Morning Ladies, Up early this morning trying to reset my schedule. This past week was sort of difficult, I did not eat as much as I should. I got my protein in of course, but my calories were low just because I was doing a lot of moving around and have a tendency to forget to eat. I hope you all are enjoying your holiday season! NSV: I went to the skating ring with my family and my mom walking behind me grabbed me at the waist and says "girl, look at this tiny waist" ; > not where it needs to be but hey I will take it. Oh and 2 hours of skating and racing children keeps you sore for days. A great feeling.

    Very slow losers?

I had lost 17 pounds at 6 weeks, too. I was still 17 pounds down at 10 weeks. Now check out my ticker.... 10 pounds under goal and maintaining 2 years out. The rate at which you lose has nothing to do with your ultimate long term success. Just get in all your protein and water, stay away from simple carbs, and put the scale away for a couple weeks. Relax and Enjoy the NSVs
  13. So im at a christmas party , at my best friends home. His wife who has supported me and I are talking about clothes shopping. I like talking about thrift shopping and my latest finds ( got a pair of dress pants, gorgeous ones, from goodwill the other day, 4.99, they were from Barney's of New York and had the tags still on them for 250 bucks retail....( yay me!) Anyway, she tells me she has a few pairs of american eagle jeans that her son ( then 16) outgrew last year, and would I like them? SO of course i said sure! I never looked at the size i had already mentioned i was wearing 32 waist 30 inseam jeans that day. SO i assumed they were my size. My friend even laughed and said, man can you imagine wearing jeans my 16 year old son wore? Now i only recently even tried getting into 32/30 jeans. End of november i was wearing 36/30 jeans, then 34/30 jeans a few weeks ago. So the move to the 32's has been very recent. SO anyway, I get home later that evening and i look at the jeans. The tag reads 29/30 . Of course i laugh and hold them up, they look like something ELmo would fit into. Straight cut by the way. As a joke i throw a leg into them, and then the other..... Yes you guessed it, THEY FIT! No not wonderfully. I wouldn't tuck in a dress shirt in em. But damn! i could wear em. Holy %$#k! Are you shitting me? People, just for reference, it was 1 year ago I was wearing 56's Now 1 year and 1 week later post surgery and Im able to fit into a 29 waist? Yea i don't think I stopped smiling for several hours. Heck i'm smiling now just thinking about it. My in laws came over today for our christmas, and they gave me a very nice gift card to nordstroms ( which i have never shopped at ) and said to " buy something you wouldn't normally buy for yourself , to celebrate" ( my birthday was 3 days ago.) So im going to do a little shopping! ( with Nordstroms prices, it wont be much, but? it'll be fun!) If it seems like i'm bragging, I apologize, i'm sure there's a little brag in there, but I wanted to say to those who are fighting the good fight and struggling....You can do this! I anxiously wait for your GOAL post! Keep all those NSV's coming. They all add up and mean a lot. You can get there. Don't give up!

NSV - Shopping at a Regular Store

Inner Surfer Girl and everyone else who had a similar NSV…congratulations! Being able to do those “normal” things that other people don’t even think about is just so wonderful. It makes life so much sweeter. And I bet you all look and feel fantastic in those smaller, more fashionable clothes! Dub, Congratulations to you, too. As much as I love being smaller, though, I have to say I’ve never learned to love shopping. Enjoy it, though! You deserve it!
  15. So as of today I am almost 3 months out from VSG and I have lost 55lbs. Today is Christmas and things are very different this year, for the first time in my life I didn't overeat into misery at Christmas dinner, I have stayed well within my nutritional goals for the day, and (here's a big one for me) I came home and worked out when we got back from the family gathering I have never ever done that before. For me today was a few big NSVs that made the holiday all that much more enjoyable! ???? On the left was at my all time highest weigh, middle was at surgery, and right was a few weeks ago.

    No longer in "Mommy Jeans"

That is so great! I haven't worn jeans in decades. I would consider being able to wear Mom Jeans as an NSV myself.

Note to self: Don't be so competitive!

I know exactly how you feel! I finally had to stop myself from looking at other;s stats and focusing on how far I've come. Also, the suggestion above about NSVs is dead on. The numbers don't mean as much as dropping 14 pant sizes and 4 shirt sizes! That is an incredible accomplishment. Even more impressive are the health benefits you list. You are kicking butt, my friend!
  18. I haven't had my VSG YET but I am already experiencing some NSV. Not having to stretch the bottom of my tshirt out for it to fit me feels odd...but it feels good!!
  19. OKCPirate

Note to self: Don't be so competitive!

Competitiveness is a blessing and a curse, or in our better natures a tool. But if the only tool you have is a hammer, you will tend to see every problem as a nail. So they key is to channel the energy to maximum advantage. That can only be done by mindfully determining goals that work for you. I would suggest that you turn from scale victories to NSV's like biking etc.

    would you recommend?

Yes, I recommend it. Yes, I would do it all over again. My comorbidities are lessened or completely gone, my self-esteem is very good, I feel great, I have had more NSVs then I can shake a stick at, I am adding years to my life, etc., etc. My only regret was not having a VSG sooner. Make the best educated decision on the procedure that is correct for you. Research as much as you can, attend a WLS seminar, WLS support groups and have your PCP, surgeon and any specialists you may be seeing all on board. Congratulations.

NSV - Shopping at a Regular Store

@@Inner Surfer Girl, you've been given credit for recognizing a universal NSV in one of them-there "status" thingies. @@Dub, is that a new signature photo you put up there in the past few days? You're looking great. Maybe you can get away with the primary language question by claiming to be in Tbilisi, Georgia?
  22. Hear ye! An important NSV that has never been mentioned is not having to spend on shipping charges because local stores have puny selections of plus and big & tall sizes.
