No- it was quick and painless- I was anxious over nothing! So- we'll see how the next few days go. I need to update my ticker....down 25 lbs so far- 10 pre-op and 15 post-op.

Only a short reasonably priced flight or 1100 air miles return flight or drive like we r its a beautiful drive we broke it into 2 days so its not so bad and my husband and daughter are coming...we don't pay for fuel though so that's the main reason we drove. Anyways I'm hear if u have questions and at the moment I'm pretty nervous!! Just got off the phone my surgery is at 10 am on wed yikes!!

    Frustrated

I am very frustrated. Presurgery, I lost weight and after surgery, I lost weight. When I started back on normal food, no more weight loss. Now, I feel no restriction (except a rare moment) and no weight loss. I had my first fill six weeks in (surgery was Nov. 3). I go back next week. I have 4.5 cc's in a 10 cc band. Is it normal to have nothing happen until you find the right fill?

    Post op nutrition

That completely depends on what foods your surgeon allows you to eat. 8 days post op I was allowed protein shakes, drinkable yogurt, and clear liquids. I had a protein shake for breakfast and dinner and strained clear soups for lunch. 10 days post op I was allowed to switch to strained cream soups. I really didn't bother with "snacks" because I wasn't hungry and because the sugar-free jello and popsicles I was allowed didn't have any calories, so why bother?

  6. Had my procedure on March 19 and I am at 4ccs right now. Dr T is about to give me another 2ccs. I've been feeling like it hasn't been working but I have noticed my clothes fitting differently. I've lost a total of 14 lbs and I'm anxiously awaiting for the other 80 to disappear. I'm sure it will all be fine, I just alwys seem to have reservations......I've tried to diet almost my whole life. Cross your fingers.....by the way my name is Joey. :-)

    sinus and too tight

I have the same doctor. I love his PA. she is great. Takes her time unlike the Doctor. I was band on May 19 06. I hope you are feeling better. I live in the Humble area. Whar part of town are you from? Have a great Day. Suzanne.
  9. Hey all, I go back to the doctor today for my 3rd fill. I currently have 5 cc's in a 10 cc band. Here's my dilemma. I have learned over the last month or so, that to lose weight, I need about 1700 calories per day. If I go too far below that, I maintain or even gain weight. I don't have much restriction right now but worry that if I get another fill, I'll have trouble getting all of the calories that I need in. My doctor doesn't go by calories, just amount of food and how long that keeps me satisfied. I've read on here that some people are doing between 600-800 calories, however that doesn't work for me. I'm not really sure why, I'm wondering if it has to do with the fact that I've dieted for the past 30 years and that's completely messed up my metabolism? Does anyone else have the issues with needing more calories and what should I do about my appointment today? Thanks for the help!!!
  10. Hello I'm a young 32 year old woman who's battled weight my whole life. After starting a journey towards weight loss surgery in 2008 I have finally achieved it just past a week ago. Got RNY, laparoscopically, finally getting back to feeling human again. I'm down 5lbs so far and feeling good. I've had a difficult time healing due to a hysterectomy and bypass in the same surgery. So ready, and happy to have finally started this chapter my book of life!
  11. I just had my surgery July 26th. I lost 10 lbs on the pre-op liquid diet and so far I've only lost 3 lbs since the surgery. I know it hasn't even been a week yet but I'm a little disappointed. I've been walking several times a day and am only able to eat about two ounces at a time. Am I just being too impatient?

    Process is started

Sounds like we are pretty much on the same track! I attended my seminar on 6/19 and will have my surgeon consult on 7/22. Now that I have made the decision to have the LapBand, I want everything done like yesterday LOL! Good Luck to yoU!!! I hope the timing works out perfectly for you.
  13. I was banded by Dr. Ortiz in Mexico in January 2005. My total weight loss over the next three years was 130 pounds from my highest weight, 110 pounds after banding. My decision to go to Dr. Ortiz was cost - my insurance didn't cover bariatric surgery and I absolutely do not regret my decision. The procedure was still new in US in 2004/2005. I had a surgeon friend who performed my fills "blind" whenever I needed more restriction and we truthfully were "winging" it. I did ultimately have an overfill, but ignored the signs because I loved the weight loss. The price I paid was that I needed an emergency unfill (my surgeon friend moved to another state). I went a year with no/minimal restriction but had actually gotten too thin and needed to gain 15 pounds. I maintained that for about a year, then decided to get a fill. It was then (I only had approximately 2 cc in a 4 cc band) that we figured out something was really wrong because I became severely restricted and had an unfill again. The UGI revealed band slippage. I am waiting until after January 1, 2009 to meet with my new band doctor to decide what to do. I am self-pay because I no longer meet the criteria for bariatric surgery (or do I?). I'm not counting on BCBS to pay for this but I will probably go along with the surgeon's recommendation. I hate going into debt for this, but I hate being fat more. This is my story. Whatever I have had to go through, it was worth it to be thin again. FYI, my mother was one of the first gastric bypass patients in the US in the early 70's. She die four years ago, it did extend her life, but the quality of her life the last 10 years was pitiful. Land Band surgery spoke to my heart. I liked having my stomach and intestines and not dealing with malabsorption, etc. Looking forward to hearing from anyone who identifies with my issues and now problem of band slippage. I did it to myself - stress, overeating and mad vomiting. It still involves being able to control yourself and I wonder if I can do it without being banded. Probably not . . .

I have bc athem ppo CA.

I just met with Dr. Cirangle yesterday and decided on the sleeve. Anyone know the out of pocket cost or can I get a loan for the 10% not covered? Which is a good financing company to go through? If anyone has any advice I'd greatly appreciate it. Don't wanna get too excited if it's out of reach.

How long have you had your band?

Got mine 8/22/07, removed it 10/3/08.
  16. Hi, gab & welcome! I also have Aetna and I'm planning surgery for June 19. I was (wow...past tense!) also a smoker, and my doc told me that I would have to quit smoking before surgery. I am not one of those folks who was always trying to quit, so I had not made a serious quit attempt in many years. However, once I found out this was a requirement to have the surgery, I decided that the time had come. I quit successfully on March 1st using a combination of Chantix and a rechargeable & refillable e-cigarette device for when the cravings got bad. I have been surprised at how smoothly it has gone, given that I smoked for close to 30 years. Best of luck to you!

Gall bladder has got to go....

I was banded in July 05 and I just had my gall bladder out last week. I wanted it taken out at the same time but the doctor said no, there were no stones and he wouldn't take it out. So almost 7 months later I had to have a second surgery. The pain I was feeling preband was in fact my gall bladder, not stones but it wasn't functioning properly. I wish I could have had them at the same time, the second surgery was a bit harder then my banding. I am just starting to feel like myself again, 10 days later. After my band I was up and about within a few days, by day 5 I felt like a million bucks. Be glad that they are doing both together, that sounds much easier then 2 surgeries back to back. ~Mandy
  18. My Federal Employees Blue Cross Standard pays for 90% of the Usual and Customary fees - i.e, I pay 10% for the surgeon and the facility. Can anybody out there give me an idea of how that translates to my actual out of pocket costs for each of those items? Just trying to get informed! Thanks alot!!
  19. Well, I had my first doctor's appointment yesterday! I am excited, anxious and nervous about the future, but I know it's the right choice. Apparently my insurance, UMP (Regence), is pretty good about approvals, but I have to do the 6 months pre-surgical plan first. The clock started yesterday. I am going to Northwest Weight Loss Surgery in Everett, WA, and my doctor is Dr. Michaelson. He was great in our consult, and explained everything very thoroughly. I had already done a ton of research and decided that the sleeve was for me, but he concurred and stated that it would be best for me, considering my age, lack of diabetes, and no tobacco use. I will have to lose 5% if my weight over the first six months (11 lbs), and my BMI is 43.4 right now, but they will be looking over the last 2 years of my medical charts. The insurance coordinator stated that if my BMI was below 40, they may be looking for co-morbidity and will send me for a sleep study. I do think over the last two years my BMI did drop below 40, so not sure how they will deal with that. Pre-Op is a 10 day/10 lbs lost diet, I will find out more at my next appointment with the RD in 3 weeks. I cannot gain weight now over the next 6 months, but obviously can lose prior to surgery. My out of pocket won't be more than $2500 as that is the max, and I'm saving my FSA amount to pay that out of pocket. I don't know how those that pay the full amount do it! I also have to schedule a psych appointment as part of the 6 month criteria, and will have the endoscopy closer to the end of the pre-surgical period. My final appointment will be 7/31 and they will submit for insurance approval on 8/1. Excited but a little impatient too!

    Recipes & menus

check out the blog - the world according to eggface. She has a whole post devoted to the puree stage. and then a couple times a month she'll have a post called "a day in my pouch" - she had RNY over 10 years ago and has successfully maintained her weightloss. She has lots of creative ideas for breakfast lunch and dinner and even tells you if she ate a snack that day and if so, what. Plus reading some of her early posts I find very inspirational.

    Newbie to be banded

Hi. I'm also getting banded 9/29. I've been married for 19 years, have 3 boys and am starting my preop diet tomorrow. I'm excited and anxious to just get on with it already. I'm a NICU nurse and love what I do, but am looking forward to shrinking so it's easier to do my job. 9pdmnm5 and I are being banded by the same surgeon, and have been chatting. It definitely helps to have someone you can talk to. Good luck, and keep in touch!! 1 week from tomorrow!!! YAY!!!!
  22. Reporting in that I had a great day today. Stuck with my meal plan and had a really good workout at the gym. Thanks again to everyone who provided words of encouragement. It was just what I needed! I'm still getting used to talking about weight loss and being honest when I have a bad day. I usually just suffer in silence because I'm so mad at myself and embarassed. Just about all of my friends and family members are thin and it's impossible to talk to someone who thinks having 10 pounds to lose is a big deal. I have to say I'm actually looking forward to my psych consult. Pretty sure it is going to be more helpful than I think.
  23. I have had a hard time since a trip to Europe the beggining of Oct. Then of course there was thanksgiving, christmas, new years. I have put on 30 pounds from my lowest weight. I was told by a few people I lost a little too much weight. I have going to loose 20 and see how I look and if my jeans fit. I can't workout right now because I just had a boob job 12/21. I had my trainer put me back in the schedule 1/10. I hope the doc. okays that. It will be 3 weeks. Yesterday and today have been great eating wise. I have broken up my daily food into 6 mini meals. I think this will work well for me. I also started journaling again. Let's hope my motivation continues. I think I'll be in a good spot if I can just put 3-4 good days together. I never want to be fat again! Thanks for listening.
  24. I started my pre-op liquid diet on Memorial Day and did well until today. I fought every urge to cheat and eat real food but some how I made it through the moment. That was until a few hours ago. I had a momement of weakness and went to Wendy's and got a kids meal and ate the whole thing. I am even more disappointed in myself because I knew that I was already at an increased risk for surgery problems because my liver is 3 times the normal size of someone my age and weight. I feel so helpless and I'm worried I am going to have trouble staying on the diet now because I couldn't make it 10 simple days on liquids only. Anyone go through a similiar momemt of weakness? I am prepared for harsh responses, heck I probably really need to hear them so that I don't fail like this again.
