  1. Really having a hard time of it right now. Yesterday I went to see my parents who have been sick since the weekend before my surgery. I had my two weeks and one day ago. Since beginning my journey in February I have already gone down 5 pants sizes (from barely squeezing into my 26's to easily zipping and having room in my 18's now). I have lost 30+ lbs--15 of which were in the last two weeks. I am barely getting in 400 calories a day and choking down my Protein drinks......and my mom asked "are you sure this is going to work?" Mind you this is the woman who has been after me to have this surgery for the past 10 years. Now that I have actually done it and can't go back she is like "are you sure you aren't eating too much?" "are you sure this is going to work"........ I went from feeling great about myself and my progress, to feeling like a complete and total failure once again. I can't avoid her as she and my dad are very sick and need us three kids to step up and care for them. It has been bad enough that I can't be there to help her in and out of bed since I have had surgery and can't lift more than 5 lbs. I guess I am just looking for someone to reassure me that Yes this does work. That yes, if I follow my dr's rules and move more and eat less I will lose weight. That my mom is just being her usual critical self and it isn't about this surgery--that the surgery is just the most recent thing for her to pick about. You would think that by the time I am nearly 45 I would be over her nit-picking......but I"m not..........
  2. I am going on a 10 day liquid cleanse while he is doing his 10 day liquid diet so he doesn't feel alone! Of course I have to feed the kids, but I will be doing it with him. I think it will be easier for him if he isn't alone.

    ahhh feeling down today

Me, too! I had my surgery on 12/26 and have lost 64 pounds but am stuck on a plateau for a long time. I am exercising at the gym 5 days per week and have lost 10 pounds of body fat in 2 months but the scale is just not moving at all. I am wondering if I have stretched out my stomach because I can eat quite a bit before I feel the restriction, depending on what kind of food I am eating.
  4. My fantasy was to wear a size 6. Last month, I was shopping at Old Navy. Took 2 pairs of white skinny jeans into the dressing room, 8's and 10's (knowing the 8's probly wouldn't fit but hopeful). I walked outa the store with a 6! I think they were mistagged - they were in clearance. It's the only 6's I can wear, but my fantasy definitely came true. They were only $8 but I probly would've paid $100 for em! They are definitely my fav pants now - just cuz they're a 6! Dreams really do come true! And I'm still 26 lbs from goal so I have many more to come. Maybe a size 4 in my future? Unreal!

    Pain on left side

Well, I have to say that I was trimming my yard with a light weedeater (less than 7 lbs) and now my rib cage hurts even worse. I didn't even get 5 minutes in. I definitely have to call the surgeon tomorrow because I'm worried. To me, I shouldn't be hurting. I can't even think about exercising because of the pain. I also stopped losing weight. I lost 10 lbs in the first week and have stopped all together. UGH!

    Protein Yuck!

My favorite is the ready to drink special K milk chocolate. It has 190 calories and 10 grams of protien. Not the lowest calorie or highest protien but unlike the others it actually tastes good and doesn't get poured down th he sink. I like to mix the shake with a quarter or half cup of low fat milk and a splash of coffee (cuts the sweetness).

    Restriction Question

This is normal. Some foods are difficult to eat and will fill you up really quickly e.g solid Protein such as meat/chicken. Other foods go down really easily so it takes lots to fill you up. They are called slider foods and you should try to avaoid them. They include crisps, chocolate, icecream, Desserts etc. Some sliders are OK in small quantities as they provide imprtant nutrients e.g yogurt. I am not surprised you got stuck on a hard boiled egg. I have always found them dry and really difficult to eat even preband. The thing is to always eat slowly, small bites and chew really well. If you do get stuck stop eating and don't try to drink as it makes it worse. I generally try to burp or cough the stuck item up as when it comes up you get relief. Some people guzzle a fizzy drink really quickly. Apparently this unblocks you and brings iit up really fast so only do it near a toilet or sink!Others swear by papaya enzymes but for me they do nothing. In time you will figure out what works for you. Also the optimum level of fill to achieve restriction is different for everyone. Some people have 10 cc bands with only 1 or 2cc and they are restricted. Others have overfilled bands. As for the scale............ I still jump on it EVERY morning!

    Plateau

Thank you will do... How would you recommend walking like 5-10 minute intervals? Are there any other exercises i can do?
  11. Hi everyone! I'm new to this community - I was banded almost 2 wks ago on 10/1/09. I'm 31 and my highest weight was 297 - I'm down to 279 as of 10/9/09. Who knew a liquid diet would be that successful?! I'm struggling right now NOT to eat - I am craving a salad. I don't even care if it has salad dressing! I started a blog (the good, bad and ugly - all of it), so feel free to stop by and offer up ideas, support, etc. It can be found here: Following my Dreams, One by One I can't wait until my first fill - I haven't been hungry until today but holy cow, it's awful! Thanks in advance for all your support. I'm just having one of those rough days. xo, Adrienne

    post op

I've been sleeved for 10 days and i get exhausted really easily. Keep pushing yourself to move about during the day, even though it's strenuous. I've noticed that helps with the weakness overall for me. good luck to you!

    Discouraged

I had surgery on July 25 and had my first fill on August 20th. It's been rough. Those first few weeks I was sore and tired, but hungry. I was 3/4 of a pound over what I was when I had surgery. My doctor gave me a hard time about it. This morning I weighed myself and I'm down 2 pounds below my lowest weight so I was happy. Not feeling restriction yet, but I'm more active. I'm riding bike again (haven't done that in probably 10 years!) and walking more. My clothes are getting looser so I know things are happening. Hang in there and good luck!
  14. My surgery (bypass) was yesterday the 27th. My surgeon said everything went well. He also repaired my hiatal hernia. Aside from the gas I was inflated with, I haven't had a lot of pain, just discomfort (I'd say 3 on a scale of 10). I took a nice long walk yesterday to help. I've been sipping icy cold water, which I know some have had problems with. Later this morning, I'm being discharged. Then the real fun begins. [emoji4]

    HAS ANYONE TAKEN B-12 INJECTIONS

Just FYI, There is an alternative to injections and large oral pills. I take 500mcg sublingual B12 3-4x week. They are tiny tablets that dissolve under your tongue. My B12 level was high normal on my 6 month bloodwork. $11.25 for 250 tablets. I had surgery 10 months ago and I'm still on my first bottle. pretty cheap even if you did take them everyday.

New to site: band to sleeve

I too am having revision from band to sleeve. May 28 is my date. My band was successful for 10 years. I lost 100 pounds. Last year I had a virus and was vomiting. My band slipped. They had to remove all the saline and I have now gained 87 lbs. I am ill with myself for gaining but I guess after being so restricted for so many years I kind of lost it. Good luck and keep us posted.
  20. I am not feeling to bad was sleeved by Dr Lopez Corvala on 10/23. He was great and so was everyone on his team. I am only 3 days post op.

    U.S. kids having obesity surgery

Thanks for sharing!! I am just glad that kids have options now. I would have LOVED to have gotten my band when I was younger and obese and have my weight problem nipped in the butt early on. I think the lap band for severly obese kids is wonderful--not the bypass however. Too dangerous for children IMO. ~Liz~ 03/10/06241/156/160 5'8''

    Living Wills

I know this is a subject people try to avoid, however in the past few months we have been made aware of the necessity for having a living will. Having my family and friends know what my wishes are is very important and I don't want anyone guessing or causing conflict. I found a web site that reasonable and easy.. the cost is $5.00 and takes less than 10 minutes to complete.you can print it upon completion... send a copy of your living will to family or whom ever you wish to know your wishes ..the site is called... LivingWillsNow.COM my surgery is schedule for 06-28-05 and I'm trying to cross all T's and dot all I's before Tuesday. Just thought I would share this information.

Picked up a new hobby after getting a new me...

Walking along with the usual weighing all my food and tracking. I used to walk with weights until I injured myself. Not worth it for me, an injury sets you back. And my Dr friend told me off about doing. It isn't really necessary. I maintained my muscle by eating 1 gram of protein for 1 pound of lean muscle mass, every day. I've lost 180 pounds and only 10 of that has been muscle. I still have 125 pounds of lean mass.

  25. Hi everyone, I am so upset. I had my surgery on Thursday 10/22 and it was scheduled for outpatient meaning I could stay in the hospital if it was less than 24 hrs. Well my lb procedure took longer and the surgeon had to repair a severe hiatal hernia, and do a liver biopsy too. When I was released to go home I told the nurse I was ready to leave and she said not to worry I was just in observance and not using all the 24 hrs. Anyway when I got home today my insurance carrier sent me some standard form letter saying I was denied inpatient and they only approved outpatient. I called them and they said someone called the next day to get me inpatient status which this letter is saying they denied. I told the rep I was outpatient the whole time and she said if that was the case then it would be paid. But this letter said my inpatient status was denied. It said I would have been granted inpatient status if I had terrible pain, vomiting and nausea which I had all three of~! Has this happened to anyone else? I am so upset. Of course the hospital and the surgeons office was closed by this time. Please give me any advice and send your prayers and good thoughts my way. I am trying to put this in Gods hands but it is very hard to not worry!
