  1. 9/13 sleeved start weight 197 down to 180.4. 17 pounds trying to break though my 3 week stall. Good news off all diabetic meds still!
  2. As repetitive and annoying as it may be to read the same question over and over again I must admit that it was that dreaded 3 week stall that made me seek out more information and brought me onto this site. While my Dr did tell me that stalls were inevitable I did not expect it to happen so soon and all the while my calorie intake was 250-350 daily. I subconsciously believed that my body was somehow broken to begin with as I have never responded well to changes in diet and increases in exercise. I was terrified that I would be the one and only person that would go through this surgery and STILL not lose weight and regain mobility. I can not tell you what a source of comfort it was for me at the time to see so many people posing the exact questions that were plaguing me. And even more comforting were the responses from the Veterans telling us newbies "hey, I have been there, it can last a few weeks, but trust me it will get better." ... and it has

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Hey everyone, I posted recently, but am always keeping track of the conversation and topics. So I kinda hit a stall and was discouraged, and on top off that I found out I had gallstones. Didn't even make it the scheduled MD appointmentto discuss treatment. I ended up in ER this weekend and had to have gallbladder surgically removed. Has anyone else had the gallbladder removed, and if so how was it afterwards? Could that have caused my 3 week stall prior? I am still tracking food and exercise, and based on that I should be losing weight. I try not to focus on that to much, but it is hard. Well I did just have a NSV, I was able to wear XLG scrubs..[emoji4] Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app
  4. Are you drinking Protein shakes? Even at 10 months out, this is how I meet protein and Fluid goals. I make a smoothie every morning and drink it late morning/early afternoon. I've got at least 8 different Protein powder flavors to choose from and then add even more variety with fruit, PB2, Torani syrups and Mio Water drops. My smoothies are 24-32oz liquid, 25-40g protein (depending on what type of protein powder a I use and whether it's made with milk or water) and 5-10g Fiber. So I'm killing 3 birds with one stone (fluids, protein, fiber) and easily meeting the other 1/2 of my goals through high protein food, tea, coffee, water and juice. You need to Try and figure out how to drink and eat more. I had only lost 17 pounds at 6 weeks postop, then gained 3 pounds and sat there for a month. That was when In was sick from a medication I was taking. As soon as I stopped the medication, I ate and drank at least twice as much and dropped 8 pounds in 1 week! Slow but steady loss (with just a couple. 2-3 week stalls) ever since. Good luck. PS. go ahead and eat 5-6 tiny, healthy meals/day if you have to....I do. It's better than Peanut Butter and ice cream.

    May Surgeries - check in!

Funny 16 the magic number and the 3 week stall seem to be the norm 🤷🏻‍♀️
  8. this is part two… part one brought me to surgery with my weight loss adventure .. (quick warning, i tried not to be graphic but an infection is referenced) now I am someone who weighs almost every day for several months but i have trained my brain to be chill about the number… just watch for trends because bodies are sometimes heavier for non fat related reasons… i have seen my body go up, down and drop drastically and rise rapidly all while loosing weight as a trend… now i am in my early post op and start with my surgery weight of 351.4 on 11/3/22 sat, 11/5/2022 - day 2 post op after first night home - i dropped to 349.4 - considering swelling and fluids I was satisfied because I thought that I would have been up.. sun, 11/6 - 348.4 - spent lots of time walking in my yard gathering pecans with my picker upper stick for a few days - more than 5 gallons worth mon, 11/7 - 347.6 struggling with fluids, slight pull feeing while sitting and standing but otherwise good! tues, 11/8 - 349.2 - more sore but not really in pain.. i attributed this to walking a bit much the day before and trying to get more fluids… tried to power through and keep being as active as i could… (today i also had bathroom success lol) Wednesday, 11/9 - 349.2 - incision area hurting more and thought that I truly overdid it and took a lazy day… mild temp of barely 99 Thursday 11/10 - 347 - more pain in big incision area and it was warmer, mild fever 99.8 degrees- still blaming myself for pushing myself to be so active post op. took a super lazy day (even made someone get a birthday cake for my son who turned 19) friday 11/11 - 345.4 - something was wrong. pain was so much worse getting up and down and even sometimes moving. temp went to 100.8 in morning and i was feeing off. called dr and waited for call back. incision area looked ok but felt warm and kinda harder than it did.. not much redness… by 1 pm temp spiked to 101.7 even with tylenol. called again to dr and said something was wrong … they called in antibiotics and made appt for monday to see how i would respond. 11/11 - trip to town going to antibiotics- my husband drove .. we went into aldi to pick up a couple items before going to kroger to get meds and another grocery order ( we were feeding guests on saturday playing a game) and i actually have little memory or the store trip just bits and pieces … i told my husband i had a big problem and my pants were wet.... my infection, well, ruptured while in store.. we went to kroger to get antibiotics where i took one in the parking lot then i fell asleep immediately in the car for the ride home (unusual).. when finally hope after another stop i slept through, i groggily made my way in the house, cleaned myself up with hibclens and stumbled into bed without bandaging my still seeping wound and wrapped up shivering … and immediately went back to sleep… my mom called an hour or two later and i answers on my watch.. groggy and not very coherent.. hard to love, hard to talk, slurring words.. she called my husband who was doing another errand and he eventually came home and checked on me .. i was not medicated as he thought and still seeping a lot and he bundled me up and brought me to the er despite my slurring attempts to protest that i was perfectly fine and just wanted to sleep.. the er had a full waiting room, but when the staff talked to me and saw the state of the towel against my incision area - i was not only taken back but in a room immediately… my bad veins were acting up.. 7 different iv attempts and had to get an arterial pull for blood.. multiple bags of fluid, potassium iv, multiple antibiotics, a ct with contrast, .. in other words a long long night.. 11/12 - 7 am my surgeon came to er and i was more coherent than most of the night… i had a large infection and was a little dehydrated … but with the treatment already received and the iv antibiotics combined with oral, he thought i would be ok and i could go home with a bandages wound and see him monday morning. i slept for a few hours when i got home, then woke up sore and still hurting some but better than i had felt in a few days. bandages changed every couple hours due to drainage. when i got home before 9 am i weighed myself out of curiosity and i was 352. it made me laugh because they really did pump me full of fluids!! every day after got better. less pain, discharge stopped monday and slowly the fluids started to come off. i am now 17 days post op and i am down to 335.6 for the second day in a row. might be that famous 3 week stall early. but i am fine with that because it usually means good healing is finally taking place and the scale with catch up eventually. i can move better than pre surgery and 100% better than six months or a year ago. my stamina still sucks but is improving even with the infection (two types of streptococcal bacteria) I am doing good and on my way to the life that i keep telling myself I deserve to live. i want to make plans and do things for the first time in a few years. i am no longer afraid to go to a store because it hurt my back so badly and turned my face from pale white to tomato red due to the physical effort… i can actually go in without the immediate pain! so far even with the setback this is one of the best things i ever did for me
  9. Thanks for the great advice! Yeah, Ive def heard about the 3 week stall, just wasn't expecting it after 1 week!

    January Bandsters???

Sue, I thought I was the only one having more hair loss than usual. Specifically, what test did they do that found out that B12 was the problem? My blood tests have shown low protein, and I have upped my supplements. I don't think they checked for B12 though. I went for my fourth fill today that brings me to a total of 2.0 cc. I have taken the slow and conservation route on fills. I wasn't sure I wanted another fill because I do have some problems if I eat too fast, and don't chew, chew, chew. But when I eat slow and chew really well, I can eat more than I should. My daughter is getting married in July, so I wanted to kick start my weight loss after a 3 week stall. We are going on a cruise too, so I don't want to overdo it. I hope this small increase in fill will help just a little without getting me stuck too much or pb'd. I come here to read your posts about once a week, and haven't posted myself because I didn't feel I had too much to contribute. Mostly everything has gone well. I hit my first plateau and am ready to lose more. If anyone wants to know - I would have the surgery again in a heartbeat! Terry

    Icon23! Where are you?

I'm doing great! I might be in the 3 week stall, but I lost 2 pounds in the past week, so I don't exactly consider it a stall. I lost 15 pounds the week before that, though, so it's a big difference. I'm just trying to be patient with the process and pay more attention to how I feel and how my clothes fit. I'm down from a tight 22 to a comfortable 20. My birthday is in 2 days and I already feel like I've given myself the best present

Where Are My April 2012 Sleevers?

kiki - 3 week stall! Ugh! I've been plugging right along. Every day the scale scoots down just a bit. From surgery (4/10) I'm down 52 pounds to 172. Finally I weigh less than my husband!! I can feel bones I have never felt before. On a funny note (boys, cover your eyes) when I lie on my back, my boobs have shrunk and tend to slide to the sides, but I now have my rib cage poking up, that looks like low boobs. Well, can't have everything, right?! At least my ribs are my highest part when I'm on my back instead of a tummy mountain. Shopping has been weird. I've nearly shrunk past all of the clothes I had that were too small. I've picked up a few things at Target but I'm not sure what size to buy. And the selection! Isn't it strange to be able to shop the whole department?! Before, it was "Well, this fits, I guess I'll take it." Now I can hardly decide what to buy because everything fits. Amazing. With food, I'm still sticking to soft protein. I've got years to eat chicken and all that. I want to eat easy food that I know will make me feel good. Good luck everyone - we're doing great!!

    Attention ! Australian Sleevers

Hey everyone had my 4 month checkup with my dietitian. She was so surprised with my 37kg loss. She thinks it is awesome. Got my bloods back and everything is perfect, just need to keep up my multi and that's it. She says fish oil will help my hair loss. She said because a I have had such a dramatic loss my stalls will start to become more often and longer. Have only just broke my 3 week stall in the last few days. Hoping to drop another 7 by the end of the year, that will put me around 110kg.

    May Surgeries - check in!

But I didn't sign up for a 12-18 month process. I signed up for the 12-18 day package. LOL And I do believe 16 is the magic number. LOL I had my obligatory 3 week stall but back to losing again. YAY!

    Do You Log Your Food?

I log every bite on SparkPeople.com I've just had a 3 week stall at 9 weeks out and without my log I would have second guessed my brain into pudding. I agree with the suggestions in JeanieboBeanie's post for suggestions. Thanks for writing it all down so concisely. I currently use Cron-o-meter, but have used MFP, Lose it, and some others attached to devices (like BodyMedia and Up.) Here's my wish list: Detailed micronutrient tracking. Cron-o-meter is FABULOUS at this and I appreciate it more and more as I transition to solid food. It tells me if/when I'll be ready to drop particular supplements. Along with this - a real blue-sky dream - an app that can suggest particular foods that will help me meet my goals. For example, if I'm not getting enough Iron, suggest liver or other foods that are super-dense in that particular nutrient(s) Goal ranges instead of discrete ceilings or floors A way to log my hunger at the beginning, middle, and end of a meal (a simple 1-10 scale would be fine) A place to keep notes on how I'm feeling (stressed, tired, bored, celebratory) and some way to mine that data back out (see reporting/exporting) A good recipe builder. One of the things I appreciate about Cron-o-meter (and I hated about My Fitness Pal) is the fact that it keeps a running weight log for any given recipe, so when I eat it, I can just weigh my portion and put that in (as opposed to determining set portions.) The ability to translate and move easily between measurement units (g v. ounces, volume) The ability to scan barcodes The ability to sync bi-directionally with my fitness apps (see: Jawbone, MapMyFitness, etc.) so I only have to log things like biometrics (weight, fat %) in a single place Robust reporting and exporting so you can see patterns and make connections (e.g. changes in macronutrient ratios when you're tired, etc.) I'm not a huge fan of crowdsourcing foods...UNLESS they include ingredient lists with amounts. Otherwise, how do I know what's in that chili, or if it's nutritionally similar to MY chili? That's my main beef with MFP (but not my only one.) I don't trust the data. All of my December sleevers...

Hi all! First congrats to everyone who is improving their health-- you all rock! I just want to shout out to all my fellow slow losers and remind them enjoy their own journey. I've lost 22 lbs since my surgery on 12/17. It's a little shy of two lbs a week. I also just turned the corner from a stubborn 3 week stall. Comparatively, my loss is puny...but for me, it makes a big difference. It means my sleep apnea, blood sugar, blood pressure and ability to be active are all better. I will reach goal. It may take me a full year or even two...but baby steps are steps in the right direction.

    All of my December sleevers...

Its nice to see everyone is doing okay I love good news I also been loosing a pound a day since Monday after a 3 week stall I love it and I hope it continues I really don't want to loose the weight that fast due to the possibility of loose skin but the faster I see the hundreds the better I am almost at my half way marker thats when i will be happy. still don't see much of a change when I look in the mirror but I see it when I put on my clothes. maybe in another 10 pounds I will see the mirror effects lol
  19. I was sleeved on 7/31 and whew, it's been a journey! I'm happy with my weight loss progress and that 3 week stall can be discouraging for sure! I was so happy to see the scale move again. LOL I had developed a slight infection at my big incision and took a round of antibiotics and went on a trip for 10 days. I had to do my 2 week post op nutritional counseling via video conference while I was on my trip and I didn't get to see my surgeon until I got back. By that time, my incision had closed completely but was getting bigger and at first I thought it was a crazy fast keloid (I'm prone to those) but then I realized it was fluid. When I went in to see my surgeon, she cut into the site and showed me how to pack it with gauze. She gave me another round of antibiotic too. I go back to see her in 2 weeks. In the meantime, she cleared me to start some light cardio. Today was my first day to work up a little bit of a sweat, and I mean little because I stopped after 10 minutes. I'm starting with Leslie Sansone and I hope to do 20 minutes tomorrow. I've been eating around 600 calories +/-100 per day and trying hard to get 64 oz of water. I think I'll get it today and today will be the first day that I've taken all my vitamins and calcium. I'm getting the hang of this new life!

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

I seem to have hit the famous 3 week stall at 19 days out. I haven't changed my diet or activity and have been at the same weight (or slightly higher) for 3 days. Sticking to my program and hoping to break free soon ....

2 wks post op - plateau?

I am not alone!! I am almost at 3 weeks, I lost 25 lbs the first 2 weeks then the scale just stopped moving! I was thinking wither starvation mode since I get in about 600 or so calories a day - but Im working on that - or I thought it was because I wasnt doing my 30 min walking a day, even though I do walk a lot period. Maybe it is a little of both plus the 3 week stall. Either way I dont feel so bad anymore. BTW lately I have only been getting in 30 g or so of protein daily - is this a huge deal?

Ladies: How much loss 1st week?

3 week stall? Try week 2 stall lol. I lost 12lbs the first week then 0 the second week, omg I'm going crazy over here..
  23. Peek!- Did you get your ticket to work? I'm on my iPhone and they don't show up anyway. And I TOTALLY agree; this is an AWESOME group! KimR- Whoot, Whoot! 11 pounds!! How does it feel to know they are never, ever coming back?! Also, can I come over for some delicious soup? I promise I don't eat much haha =) Chellede!- You are a strong woman! I promised I wouldn't weigh myself everyday, but here I am, weighing everyday. How is your allergic reaction doing? Was it to whatever glue your dr used? You might be nearing the first stall... I know for most it hits at 3 weeks, but some people I've seen on here get it much earlier. Are you counting calories? I know there is no way I can eat a whole cup of soup right now. I can only eat about 2 oz still lol. And it takes forever and a day! I know different Drs have different diet plans though. I'm 100% sure if you are sticking to whatever your plan is, you will lose the weight you want =) Jen- Good luck tomorrow! I know you will do great! Deb- Super glad your surgery went well! RM- I'm also 9 days out and experiencing the same things. My weight loss this morning was only (LOL) 0.9 pounds. It's just funny for me because before when I was on a diet, I would be extremely happy with that loss for an entire week! We are getting closer and closer to the 3 week stall. That's the only thing I can thing of. We just need to keep doing our plans and *try* super hard not to get frustrated! My incisions also still are sore, especially when I stand up or bend down. My mom and friend both said their incision pain lasted about a month. I go for my post op appointment tomorrow- I will ask about it and report back! Does anyone else think their food tastes like CRAP?! I drink a little diluted 100% fruit juice to keep my energy levels up. I loved every kind of juice before surgery, especially white grape. Now, I have to make myself drink it! Also, strained cream of mushroom soup is now the bain of my existence!

    September sleevers wanted!

I'm am experiencing the dreaded 3 week stall for 11 days now. UGH!~ SOooo frustrating! But went over and double checked my protein intake and seen I was lacking about 20 grams! (stupid me, miscounted my protein shakes and just counted on that figure for the last 11 days!) Now that I caught that, I am hoping this is going to break. Below is a link that Maddie wrote --great explaination for stalls- A MUST READ! http://verticalsleevetalk.com/post-operation-vertical-sleeve-gastric-surgery-vsg-questions-answers/8349-stall-s.html
