  1. So frustrated, though I am very thankful for this site. Just over 3 weeks after surgery, I haven't lost an ounce in about 10 days. I have lost 11.8kg or around 26lbs, please tell me this isn't all I'm going to lose. I've read a lot about stalls, so I hope this one won't last for too long

    How Much At One Month?

you guys don't know what a slow loser is....It's ME - since 9/10 I have lost 11 pounds - I hit the 3 week stall and have stayed there ever since....so 20+ pounds lost at one month is absolutely awesome. although I have lost 11 inches (and more I'm sure, but I don't measure until Friday's). this damn stall and reading all these posts of ' boo hoo I've only lost 25 pounds' is making me crazy......it's like what the Heck is wrong with me???? it's very upsetting, it's like - wow out of thousands of sleevers - I'm going to be the one it doesn't work for. I'm not depressed, I'm pissed - severely pissed off. Had such a easy recovery - no reflux (don't take the PPI as I don't need it), no nausea hardly any pain. been on solids since week 3......but nothing is happening weight wise. I feel like I have this target on my back since everyone at the office knows I have had the surgery and are looking at me like 'looks like that didn't work for her...., or geez I don't see any difference. I am just freaking totally pissed - glad everyone else is losing like champions and happy for you guys....but geez, when will it be my turn? ok - off my soapbox....
  4. 9/13 sleeved start weight 197 down to 180.4. 17 pounds trying to break though my 3 week stall. Good news off all diabetic meds still!

    Month Check-Up Today!

Yep, that is the dreaded 3 week stall. You will probably have a few more, but you will survive. You are a surviver! Keep it up!

Post Op September Sleevers, Roll Call

Yep- 3 week stall. I only lost the first week and stalled for another week. It'll kick back in gear. Make sure you're drinking 64 ounces and getting your protein in.

Post Op September Sleevers, Roll Call

Your in the 3 week stall. Mine lasted for 2.5 weeks and started 10 days after surgery. It kicked back into gear last week and I have only lost 15lbs since surgery. Don't compare yourself to other people as it all depends on what you started at etc. Also taking my measurements helped a lot because even though the scale wasn't moving (even went up 2lbs) i was losing inches. Hang in there.
  8. First of all, you have not failed, you are just getting started. Give yourself some slack, it is a huge learning curve. A stall around the 3 week mark is totally normal. Another poster had a great article about what our bodies are doing and why we stall early out....search 3 week stall and you should be able to find it. Now, you should be following your post-op guidelines from your surgeon...600 to 800 calories is not bad and you will lose. The only thing I would say is crackers and chips are high in sodium which causes Water retention...this might explain the small gain. Plus, they are what is called a "slider" food...which means they mush up significantly as you eat them and in your stomach, thus allowing you to eat more. Because of this, you take in a lot more carbs and calories. I know you start to feel like you just want to chew something, but it is best to stick to your liquids and better sources of Protein. I am not sure where you are in your post-op, but if you are in mushy stage, you could have scrambled eggs, greek yogurt (amazing source of protein), Protein shakes, and on some diets, ground meats chewed well. Good luck on your journey and like others have said, try to relax. I know it is hard, we all want to lose all our weight in 2 or 3 months, but the fact is it doesn't usually happen that fast. Just stick to the plan and you will lose!
  9. I'm 6 weeks post-op on Wed and am battling a 3 week stall (uuugh) but old jeans have started to fit again AND I can cross my legs once again! So while I am tired of not losing actual weight, I'll try to focus on the positives.
  10. You're hitting the classic 3 week stall. Don't sweat it, just keep working your plan and the weight loss will start up again. This is a good time to take your measurements and compare them to your measurements from pre-op, or for comparison down the road. My pattern seems to be that I lose for awhile, then I stall and lose inches during the stall. I walked out of my first pair of pants during a stall.
  11. Not sure but I started at the same weight and when I saw the doctor he was glad I was losing weight very slowly. He said you will catch up to the weight lose. Yes everyone has a 3 week stall but this stall for me was losing inches off my waist. At 3 month I stop drinking Protein shakes because I was eating my protien. I also lost my hair for about two months and had to load up on some vits. and Biotin shampoo. You did not gain it over night so you can't lose it over night. Look into chair exercises, it helps me with my shoulder pains and my diabetes. Good Luck

    Confused ... Need Advice..

My Dr told me that your body just went through something traumatic & its natural tendency is to hold on to fluids. He told me to just follow the plan & the weight WILL come off. It takes anywhere from 6-8 weeks for your stomach to start healing. I have heard about a 3 week stall. Is there nowhere for you to call for follow-up in Mexico? If so, you might want to do that. Another option is to find a local bariatric Dr that has a nutritionist working with him & see if they will allow you to see him/her for a fee. The hungry thing I'm not sure about as they removed that part of the stomach that produces the hunger hormone. I can honestly tell you, I have had no hunger whatsoever since my surgery 9/12. Could it be "head hunger"?

    Slow Loser?

You are having the 3 week stall. Perfectly normal. Read the link in my sig, it will explain why you are stalling. You are still burning fat, but you are restoring your glycogen reserves, and that means also retaining Water. It will break on its own very soon.

Stall Started At Week Two! Really?

It is a "thing." It's called the 3 week stall. Most people get it. It will end on it's own very soon. Read the link in my sig. Good information about why you are stalling.
  15. Well, I was sleeved 9/5 all in all its been fine physically. Mentally its been tough. I've been at the dreaded 3 week stall but last night I got out of the shower and was able to wrap the towel around myself and it closed. I also didn't have to use my clothes to cover my butt. The towel doubled over. Yippee for me. I did get on the scale and I'm still only down 22lbs but I know now about those inches. It's true pre sleevers the inches do come off without the lbs. I didn't believe it but I'm still the same weight as last week but the towel didn't fit then.

    Most Common Time To Stall

The 3 week stall could last from 1 week to 6 weeks. Does that narrow it down? Not much. If you stall at 5 months, that's most likely your BMR slowing down to match your caloric intake. That's a situation that won't change itself. You either have to up your BMR or lower your intake. Either way, the time it lasts will depend on how long it takes you to recognize and make that change. Sorry if I didn't really answer your questions.
  17. That's awesome! Congratulations! I don't have any pictures to post yet. I started at 258 and am now 211. I just this week lost 3 lbs after nearly a 3 week stall. I'm pretty much eating whatever I want, but just a bite or two. Much more than that I end up feeling sick. I have to drink a protein shake each day just to meet my protein. I ended up getting two liters of IV fluids at my six week check up because I was dehydrated. It's a huge struggle to get my fluids in. Have to say that I love my sleeve too, despite any discomfort it may be giving me right now. Keep up the good work!

    Hubby Under The Bed

Tell him to just stay under the bed until you are 3 to 4 weeks post op. It won't get better till then. And if you have the 3 week stall he may as well go to a hotel.

    Frustrated With The Scale!

I am 4 weeks today and have been in a stall for a week now too. I keep telling myself it will all come off with time. I didn't have to do a pre op diet but lost 16 lbs the first 3 weeks (4 lbs, 9lbs, 3 lbs, 0 lbs). Hoping to see some movement on the scale again soon. I feel that I am doing all the right things. Glad to know the 3 week stall is common.

    Frustrated With The Scale!

More water....read the link in my sig. The 3 week stall is very common. Your body is replenishing its glycogen stores, that's why your weight has temporarily leveled off, but you're still losing fat.

    August Sleevers?! Where Ya's At?

I was sleeved on 8/28, so I'm 3 weeks post-op today. I didn't hit the 3 week stall, but definitely hit a road bump. Only a 2 pound loss since last week, for a total of almost 30 pounds. I'm feeling like myself now, and I'm ready to do more at the gym. Walking has always been so boring to me, and it's getting old. I return to work Thursday night, and I'm so ready! How is everybody else doing?

    4 Weeks Post Op

I am a lil behind on posting as I was not to encouraged as this week I gained weight. I have read plenty posts about the dreaded 3 week stall or weight gain but I was convinced I would beat it...Not... But all in all it has been a good week. I started eating soft foods and it was a welcome addition. Eggs with cheese was my first meal. I have made some othe recipes from Emily Bites andTheworldaccordingtoeggface. Most of them have turned out pretty good...I even managed to eat some shrimp and handled it okay considering I did not like shrimp pre-surgery...However at 21g of protein and only 1.5g fat and 4g carbs, it will become a frequent visitor on my menu. Still eating about 2-3 ounces of food before I get full and still adjusting to making sure I chew my food well to avoid that stuck feeling in my chest. My body still has not figured out how to resume regular bowel movements. I could probably lose a few pounds justing taking a good ole dump...lol TMI I know...My heartburn has also become more frequent over the past couple of weeks so I am resolving to taking priolsec or something of that nature with my daily vitamins. I started but stopped but realizing at least for now this is not possible. This week I hung out with my cousin who had lapband surgery in Jan 2012. She has had minimal success with it. I was so amazed at how much she could eat compared to the amount I was able to eat. Now mind you she had 7 months on me but I still thought our eating habits would be the same. I took a high protein, low carb potluck dish over it went over well but all the things she made were so high in carbs or fatty. She also tend to graze which all the reading I have done said this is a way you "eat around" your band or sleeve. I also notice that her pantry was riddled with things I would be afraid to bring in the house because all willpower would be gone...I do not say all this to judge but i do so it to say that even with the surgery we have to still exercise healthy eating habits. The surgery is only a tool and if we do not use the tool properly it is unable to perform as intended. I was careful not to judge her because I did not want to come off as a surgery eating expert after just 4 weeks of diet compliance. It was just an eye opener to be cognizant to not let my old eating habits that led to me being overweight erode the sleeve. On to the good news...I started out my journey a size 18..Well, this week I got into a size 13/14 jeans I had bought about two years ago...A phenomenal feeling that was...so despite having gained two pounds this week, I looked over it as I twirled around in the mirror 4 sizes smaller than I was a month ago...And so many folk are noticing the weight loss and that too is a really good feeling. Something that nags at me is that thought no less than 20 people have told me I lost weight, my ex-boyfriend has not acknowledged my weight loss...I know he is an ex and I should not care...Obviously there was something that put him in the ex category and it wasnt good so I should let go. Easier said then done but that is another story. I also measured today (09/16/12) and was pleasantly surprised at those numbers as well. I first measured on 08/23 so just under a full month Neck -1 in Thigh -3/4 in Hi Wasit (just below breast) -2 in Natural Waist 2 in Belly Button (Abs) -3 3/4 in Chest 1 1/2 in Hips 2 1/4 in Biceps 1 in Shoulder -2.5 in.....Total Inches Lost 16.75.. :D VSG 08/17/12 HW 232 08/13/12 SW 227 CW 210.4

    Can Eat Everything

If you're 5 weeks out and you've lost 24 pounds but been stuck for 2 weeks, that means you lost 24 pounds in 3 weeks. You are doing great! Your body has hit the "3 week stall." It is simply in shock by the amount of calories you have cut from it. The average weight loss is 4 lbs a week so you're still doing good even with your stall. Keep eating right and exercising and I promise, all of the sudden, you will start dropping the weight again. Most of us here have been in the same place. But, as the prior posts said.... don't go off plan. This is the time to be establishing new habits that you will stick with for the rest of your life.
