Finally on the other side!
Arabesque replied to NeonRaven8919's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My sleeve & gall were by the same surgeon and very neat. These with the scrapes are from my hysterectomy. Different surgeon. All were โmanualโ surgeries but I would think robotic surgeries may be a little more rough as they canโt feel skin, consider texture, depth of flesh, etc. Mind you, you watch those surgery ducu-series and see how they toss you about, push & poke about your organs, etc. Yikes! No wonder we can have bruises and scrapes. I had a pulled thigh muscle after this surgery. -

Five years out and the poltergeist in my tummy is alive and well. It was grunting this morning after breakfast. And I mean grunting. I asked the doctor who does my follow ups about it a couple of years back because all the grumbling, rumbling and whining was so loud. She said it was my digestive system doing what itโs supposed to do: digest food. It differs person to person & I believe surgeon to surgeon (some are just more rough), After my sleeve I had very little bruising. Though others have posted some pretty significant bruises here after theirs. Canโt recall after my gall but Iโve had more with my recent surgery. (My poor belly button is so tiny now with the 3 laparoscopic abdominal surgeries Iโve had that have used it.) Each time the wounds were different. This time I even have a little lump from a pleat in my skin from the internal sutures. And one I swear looks like the Enterprise from Star Trek. And one can be more tender one day and the next another one is. Took into the third week for the bruising to be fully gone this time. The incision they removed your stomach through is usually a little longer than the others & is the one on the right of your belly button. -

Found this tip a while ago when searching for someone else who was ahead of me on their weight loss but finally got to where I could try it for myself. Since we all know that there is such a huge space between the extended sizes my shirts are very loose yet the next size down is still snug on me so I tried this tip. You turn the shirt inside out (or just do it while wearing but your working on the inside) and grab a small section and use a rubber band to create a gather on the inside sorta like a pony tail. It does shorten the length in that one spot a bit and you have to play with the placement but it really works. I still have a larger bust so it helps to snug the waist area so I still look like I have a shape. Not certain if I explained that very well but hopefully you get the gist and it helps you too. -

Oh yea. Take that sooner rather than later. Better to have it too loose or often then to get real constipated. My team had us start on stool softeners twice a day as a preventative and take milk of magnesia as needed. Straining can really hurt you right now so better to be on the safe side. -

This weeks win: I am a diabetic but since loosing over 100 lbs my A1C is within Normal range and I take no more diabetes medicine. A lot of people don't know that most diabetics of color have dark rings around the neck called acanthosis that is a first sign indicator of insulin resistance. I was cleaning my neck with some witch hazel and noticed damn I do not see that black ring anymore. Major Win ๐ . -

None of that.. here we usually just donate all the clothes we don't wear anymore! Plus everything still fits so I am okay for now except for the loose panties haha I told myself I won't be shopping till maybe my birthday which will be in Feb! And hoping I'd be 80 kg by then? Sounds like a reasonable goal! -

My NP said anything you can easily cut with the side of your fork is soft. Avoid fibrous veggies and stuff with skins which are harder to cut with the side of your fork so that should be a given. Add sauces and gravies to meats if they donโt go down well. Just chew chew chew and try a couple of bites and wait a bit then go back if youโre not sure. Try one new food at a time so if something doesnโt agree with you itโs easy to pinpoint the issue. Cut things into tiny pieces too. -

Haha, I totally get that! I actually pushed myself at the gym today just to close all my fitness ringsโthereโs something so satisfying about it! And oh my gosh, congrats on sizing down! I havenโt gone shopping for new stuff yet, but I can definitely tell my underwear are getting loose, so I know itโs coming soon. Thatโs such a good feeling! Let me know how thrifting goes! -

So I havenโt ever started a really good cleansing routine with my skin. I have some skin condition where I get dried skin on the sides of my nose if I donโt treat it and believe it or not the dermatologist told me to use head and shoulders shampoo on my face and it works just as good to prevent it as the really expensive cream does to heal it so I have been doing that for a lot of years. Well, I really liked the dermatologist, but his office staff messed up my appointments Once too many times and I scheduled with a different one this time and she said you have rosacea. You need to be using something mild or on your face and sold me this whole new skin kit that has like five steps. She actually froze something off my face that day as well, so I couldnโt start using it until this morning (itโs finally healed) after my yoga class I came home and washed my face with it and it actually feels nicer after just one use. My skin feels softer at least. Apparently, my skin really seriously needed the hydration. -

So a quick update. I saw a skin specialist today who is pretty certain I have Chronic idiopathic Urticaria. I say pretty certain because there's another possibility (with joint involvement), but we have to wait for my pathology results to rule it out. He has started me on montelukast today and increased my fexofenadine tablets to three times a day. After just one montelukast dose, I could feel the itch subside and I was so happy! Imagine how ill be in a week! He mentioned that these hives can be brought on by stress. Given that the mini gastric bypass is incredibly stressful to the body, this ties in well with the onset time etc. -

I use a night cream that I love and have definitely had to use more since surgery. I feel like my skin is way more dry. I love massages but hate walking away feeling so greasy from all the lotion, but the other day, I told my husband we needed to get one soon, cause Iโm pretty sure my skin will just soak up all the lotion!!! ๐คฃ -

It's such a mindset shift isnt it! The old me used to dread going shopping so much in case they didnt have my size (most places didnt) so literally had to be dragged shopping. Congrats btw, we keep hitting new milestones and I for one am so much happier in my own skin, and i'm only just past half way to my goal. -
I bet it is just because they are too loose. I am about ready for the next size but I think they will still be a little too snug. You know how In the extended sizes they make you go a couple of inches before the next size which is so unfortunate. Once you get down to the โnormalโ sizes, there are more sizes in between so Iโm sure I will find some to fit me better down the road. I actually am still within the return period for Amazon, maybe I will just send these two back and get the smaller size. If they are not comfortable anyways I may as well wear something I already have that isnโt perfect. At least thatโs free. Or maybe I will be pleasantly surprised and they will just fit. If that doesnโt work, I will check out Nike. I just hate to spend a lot knowing that Iโm still losing. Then again the ones that I got were not super cheap either, $30 bucks. I ordered some that were three in a pack for $30 and the material was just horrible so I went with the same brand as my bicycle shorts and I really like the material. I only have two pairs of the shorts so I have washed them every other day for over a month now and they still look brand new (navy and black not faded). Plus, they are really soft.

the rolling down is because the leggingd are too big or too loose or to worn out i have some pairs that i still have to hike up during class. the best ones i find are the snug-properly fitted high waisted ones...but the have to fit like a glove! these are hard to find for me, so the next best i find are the low cut ones, where the band sits on way down on my hips (easier to find leggings that fit just my hips vs BOTH my hips and waist i guess)

I am sure it varies for everyone depending on the approach of the psychiatrist and the medical programme but from what I remember I was asked about why I believed I put the weight on, what I had done in the past for weight loss, did I suffer from depression, did I have an eating disorder, how my weight impacted my life, did I have a supporting family and friends group etc. Then I was asked about what I wanted from the operation, he made sure to explain that the op is not the treatment alone and I would have to put in the work on myself and my body, how the op was a tool to help me and I would have to make changes and choices for the rest of my life. He also then asked would I be happy with the changes to my body such as saggy skin as that is what a lot of people are left with. We discussed my weight journey over the years, how I am an organised person so if I am given a set of rules (with a few bendy grey areas ๐) I felt I could follow the changes that would be required without much of an issue and that while I would love to not have saggy skin I knew that would be impossible but that being a healthy weight with less risk of health issues was more important. If you already put down about being schizoaffective on your medical forms and they considered it an automatic fail I would hope that that they would have already told you.

So many awesome WIns this week ladies! My win for the week is keeping moisturized and hydrated. I will share this for neck, face, under eye! It is heaven! I love a good face routine. While loosing weight it's important to focus on our neck as it may start to droop! Well we have to focus on our entire bodies! So many changes! -

Iโm a little surprised that your doc suggested the sleeve if youโre already having esophagus problems. Iโm not a doctor, but my esophagus hernia excluded sleeve surgery automatically. Yes repairing can happen the same day. Be prepared for recovery taking a little longer with a sore and swollen throat. Everyone looses weight and recovers at different speeds. Just keep thinking about how much you are improving your health and quality of life. -
Congrats and enjoy wearing the clothes now as they probably will be getting loose in the coming weeks/months ๐. Did you get all of what you tried on? I still honestly don't see a thin me a lot of the time. I know that I don't have to shop in the plus size shops or sections anymore but I find it difficult to comprehend at times that number of sizes I have come down. In my jeans and trousers I have gone from a UK 22/3XL to a UK 8. I think part of my problem though is also the inconsistency of sizing across different brands, it doesn't always help with a healthy body image. I mentioned it in another post this week about my holidays in the US last week, I found it very hard to find clothes as in some cases even size 0 and XXS was too big, all I came back with was a rain coat, t-shirt and blouse in XS, tracksuit bottoms in a small and a youths small t-shirt and tracksuit top (thankfully the shop had the same tracksuit for youths and adults ๐). Seriously disappointed as I had brought an extra suitcase with me which came back empty though on the plus side I came back with more than half of my spending money. I still do double takes at times when I see myself in the mirror. Today I brough another three suitcases of clothes to the recycling center. It took me three trips to walk there with the full bag each time but it also helped me get my steps in.

@Mspretty86 I am satisfied! I want to work on shaping my body and getting strong. Then hoping that the boobs will make me look curvier. I am a small A where Victoria Secret told me I am an A but I still have gaps because I am all skin LOL I am ready to be a full DD. I am doing my breast aug 3 weeks before I hit a year (I know I know its a no no) but my surgeon only wants maintenance. and the date is perfect since my hubs is taking off to be my caregiver and it happens to be the same time as the kids winter break so I could not pass up the timing. but I am so ready to wear a bikini, tank tops and all the shirts because I look like a teenage boy right now LOL -

As silly as this sounds....I think I finally hit maintenance. I have been fluctuating from 160-165 for the passed month. My workouts have been great! My skin is not saggy with the workouts, I have my boobie surgery booked and paid for, so now I am working on how fit I can get these next months because I wont be able to workout for 6weeks (which is going to killlll me!) -
14 weeks post op no weight loss
summerseeker replied to Cat2336's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Really you need to toe the line in the first 6 months to give yourself the maximum weight loss. This way we learn how we should eat. Our bad habits need to be changed. This is the theory. 0-6 months is the sweet spot for the easiest weight loss. This of course does not allow for real life BUT if you have too much life, you will struggle with this surgery. You can't do what you did pre surgery. That will only lead you back to where you started pre surgery. You need to find a midline you can live with. If you are truly on 1200 calories a day then you will loose weight, especially if you are exercising like you are. Do you log your alcohol calories, your non alcoholic calories ? Some mixers can hide serious calories. And if you drink a lot and log your calories, you are not getting the nutrients you need on such a calorie deficit, How many grams of protein do you need per day ? Every surgeon has different guidelines. -
How do you guys deal with the conundrum of being thirsty and hungry?
ms.sss replied to Penguin733's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
seems everyone's experience differs from person to person! i can drink any amounts (including bubbly and by gulping) right up to the moment i ingest anything "solid". once there are solids in me, i need to wait maybe 30-45 mins before i have any liquids to avoid that over-full feeling (at best), or vomiting (at worst). i don't have liquids and solids together if i can help it. this includes soups. i drink all the broth first before i eat any chunky bits. chilli and stews are hit or miss, depending on how watery/loose they are. i generally eat slowly so i can put the brakes on if i start feeling icky. aside: because of this way of eating of mine, i tend to get a little tipsy-ish at dinners out and parties, cuz i like to drink my alcohol before eating...and the combination of being a cheap drunk and and an empty stomach results in me being and EXTREMELY cheap drunk, ha! -
Help!! Too low body fat percentage
ms.sss replied to LindsayT's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
first, you dont mention that you are having any ill effects, but to be on the safe side, and to alleviate any angst, i'd suggest going to see ur doc. second, are you getting these measurements from a DEXA scan (the one where you lie down and they pass an xray type machine around you); or a bioelectrical impedance device (like those that u stand on or hold onto) or skin calipers? (the first is the most reliable & accurate , the latter two, not so much) third: my yearly DEXA scans never matched my at home body fat measurement scale on the same day. a couple times my at home showed more, but the other 4 times showed less ON THE SAME DAY....so i always take the results from at home with a grain of salt (many times over the years, it reported that i was less than 5%...and thats just not true...ever! lol) fourth: my last DEXA scan last year was around 18-20%, if i recall correctly , and my doc was not concerned...i felt fine so i wasn't concerned either. -

late night coffee and dessert with some gal pals last night: i ordered this monstrosity: banana and nutella funnel cake with chocolate and peanut butter sauce and peanu-chocolate chip crumble with a side of vanilla soft serve ice cream (not shown) the menu listed the calorie count at 1,380 calories plus another 191 calories for the ice cream for a total of 1,571 calories! i ate maybe 1/4 of the funnel cake itself (but none the ice cream), so maybe 350 cals? pre-wls i probably would have eaten all of it including the ice cream, plus have forkful tastes of my friends' desserts as well. my, how things have changed! i did get a little bit of a loose poop when i got home, but it was worth it, ha! next time, i could do without the chocolate sauce and the crumble topping....
