  1. Thank GOD I am not the only one! TLBC did not dissolve they had to change the name due to a copyright infingement!!! I was banded in 2008. I was told the exact same thing during the time I was in the middle of a medical investigation. It is totally disgusting that they think they can do this. I was told that i had no furhter support as they just don't have the manpower. I paid 18,0000 for lifetime of support and adjustments. I was given a final FREE fill in December and going forward I would have to pay $200 for fills.. I called back to get some information from my file and was told that I had to pay $25.00 since my file was in archive and purged from the system. As for Nancy, the BEST nurse ever!!! SHE will always be the BEST and Sharon can suck eggs!! I know where she went and she can be easily found if needed. The government will never approve the band in my opion because it will never be successfull in comaprison to theother procedures. If anyone needs reliable adjustments I know where you can have them done by a credible nurse who worked for TLBC at a resonable cost. Now I havent had any adjustments because I not wan to void my warranty BUT as far as Slimband is concerend we have no warranty. I think it absolutely terrible how they have handled this whole situation. I was thinking of getting a new reoporter to do a story. THere were several done prior on the new owner of Slimband.
  2. When Slimband, took over, there was no contract sent to us. Since I was operated on by Dr. Joffe and Dr. Yau, we have to check our contracts for the TLBC. I will check my emails to see if there is any info. We were told verbally that they would continue to take care of us. I was also surprised to see that Nancy was no longer with them. Not sure what happened there.
  3. Hi, I am looking for people who were banded with TLBC in Toronto (now Slimband) to see if they have been advised that they are no longer going to support us free of charge. I called their last week and I was told that they no longer can afford it financially and it is not fair to their new memebers to honor those old contracts. They honored them for a awhile but since Dec 2013 they can no longer and as patients we are no longer obligated to seek services(fill and defills) from them since we don't have any contractual obligation with them. I can't seem to find a contract that I would have signed with them, not even sure if I got one. Does anyone else have a copy of their contract? I can recall being told that I had lifetime support .I still have a lot of questions that I didn't get to ask when I called because I was frustrated and emotional about the situation but I plan to call back and get more answers. If anyone has a simular experience or has more answers I would like to hear from you. I'm not sure what I am goiing to do with this information, I am contemplating contacting a lawyer to see if they are obligated by the contract or what my options are but I am trying to reach out to others who may be facing this same situation. Hope to hear from someone. Tamara from Sudbury, Ontario

    Anyone From Toronto?

I went to slimband and have had no problems at all. They were great when I had an issue and dealt with it promptly. I have had a great experience with them

Hi, I am also from the Ottawa area (Gatineau) and having my surgery on January 3rd, 2014. I am going to the slimband clinic in Toronto. I started my pre-op diet today which sucks over the holidays but I will prove to myself how much I want this.

  7. Hi, I'm new here and looking to have the Lapband done in the new year. I met with a very nice person from Slimband last week, but I'm concerned about some of the stuff I've heard and read about that place. I have an appointment with Smart Shape (SWLC) in Mississauga on Wed. Has anyone been to either of these clients? Which one is better/has the better reputation? Thanks in advance!!

Hi! Did you have your surgery yet? I have heard Dr. C and his clinic are wonderful. I really would have liked to compare them to Slimband before I made my choice.

    Ontario bandsters: Which clinic......?

Slimband because I wasn't aware of Smart Shape at the time.

Why Can't I Eat Right After A Fill?

Thank you all (well most of you ) for your support and words of encouragement to stick to the doctors orders, the truth of the matter is I've been under an extreme amount of stress this week ( lack of sleep, getting mortgage approval, fertility treatments and testing and my hell on earth job) and everything toppled down on me today lick a tone of bricks. I messed up and ate solids after my fill today, today was the first time I broke the rules by not following the doctor's orders and I was scared that I had ruined my surgery and or caused some sort of physical damage to my body. Since the installation of my slimband 1 year ago it has really helped me with my emotional eating and I've prided myself on being able to stick with the program. I feel horrible that I let the stress in my life affect me this way but I am determined to get back on track and SOME of the feedback I've received here has really helped me get my mind straight and get myself back on track. I've had my Slimband for a year this was my third fill, I have a 10 cc band and I currently have 7.5 cc's in my band as today. I would like others in the lapband talk community to know that I am in no way advocating that they not follow their doctor's orders I would encourage everyone to stick to the rules and if you're feeling emotional or upset reach out and talk it through. The Lapband talk really really helped me in that regard; my hubby was at work and unable to answer my call, so I ate I wish I had thought about coming to lapband talk first. I found the majority of people here at lapband talk to be very honest and kind, I've learned that staying negative or allowing negative people to permeate your space will set you up for failure so avoid them at all cost. So with that I didn't beat myself up ( I used to beat myself up in the past, but ever since i've had the slimband installed I've become a whole lot mentally stronger) moving forward I'm just going to dust myself off and move forward. I will be back on liquids for the next 24 hours and then move to thicker liquids for the next 24 hours and then back on solids. And the next time I'm feeling overwhelmed, upset and or stressed out I will log on here and vent :-) Thank you for responding to my post.
  11. Ah, ok. So you and I are probably feeling the same. Slimband does this procedure they call "the Slim Spot technique". How exactly it's done I am not sure. They do it during surgery. I was told they hook you up to some type of monitor and fill the band to determine where your vagus nerve is stimulated, and that would be your estimated "Sweet Spot". They then take out enough to allow you to heal. It's not exact, it can be off by 1 cc or so, but it gives you a bit of a head start with fills. http://slimband.com/...pot-adjustments I had 5.5 cc at surgery, and my level was estimated to be 7cc. I am now at 7.25. But weight loss will also affect it as you lose visceral fat. My band is 10 CC, but they can actually hold more like 12 if needed.

    What's going on at Slimband

Hi, welcome. I am also in Ottawa. I went with Slimband, and there is a fill nurse in Ottawa who is wonderful also. I didn't hear of Smartshape until after, but have read good things about the Dr. Good Luck!

    What's going on at Slimband

Hi everyone, I am really considering lap band surgery. I do live in Ottawa so my options for what I've been able to see are Slimband or Smartshape. I found the information for the Dr, that does the fills for Slimband here in Ottawa but can't find the information for Smartshape. Would anyone be able to recommend Smartshape over Slimband? thanks, E
  15. I have just noticed that Slimband in Toronto are now advertising on TV. Part of the sales pitch that they mentioned as part of this advertisement is that you can eat whatever you want only in smaller portions Then they have pictures of burgers, pizza etc. etc. I would say this is kind of misleading what do you think??

    Slimband

Yes. it is great to have some slimbanders on here!

    Ottawa

Hi! Nothing yet, but I am looking to set one up. Nice to meet you! Please keep in touch. I'd love to hear about your experience with SWLC. Do they have a fill clinic in Ottawa? I'd only heard of them after signing up with Slimband.

    Slimband

Hi everyone. I am to be banded on aug 21 in Toronto. I'm from sask!! Everything was good there? We have our own little support group kind of forming of slimband patients .
  19. Tom! Did you get your band done in Toronto. I am headed to Toronto for mine next week?! Just looking if there any others who went to the same place I am headed?? Slimband?? Thanks Ashley
  20. I read on the Slimband forum that you can request a tax receipt through their finance department. I am sure most clinics are similar. Sharpie, Yes the surgery can be covered but you have to qualify for the surgery at BMI of over 40 or at least 35 with co-morbidities, then there are huge waiting times also. Plus you have to be referred by your family doctor to even see anyone to discuss it. My work benefits do not cover any weigh-loss procedures. In my case, my family doctor wouldn't even refer me to a surgeon, she just kept giving me "pep-talks". I was over bmi 40 at one point, but when I decided to self-pay I was bmi 39 and I do not have co-morbidities so I wouldn't qualify to have it covered. So, some of us go to private clinics.
  21. I didn't hear about Smart Shape until after my surgery either. I would still have gone with Slimband though as I can get fills locally. I would also be interested in comparing aftercare. Slimband called twice and are pretty quick at getting back to my emails, though I haven't needed much from them The fill nurse in Ottawa is wonderful! I loved her.
  22. I am a SlimBand patient but lucky because I live just outside of Toronto so it was just car travel. I have been happy with SB care so far they have steady emails and have been responsive to my questions by phone. Fills have been pretty simple also. DeeW99 used SmartShape and I think she has been happy with them also. I would be curious to compare more the differences and or the similarities. I only learned about SmartShape after my SlimBand surgery so maybe I didn't do enough research. But sure was happy that Cibo Clinic (which has now shut down) didn't rely to my first enquiry.
  23. No, Dr. Yau, Dr. Cyriac or Dr. Hazrati are the surgeons at the Slimband clinic. I believe Dr. Coburn is with Smart Shape.
  24. I am to have surgery on August 9th. I am wondering if I should plan to stay in the Toronto area overnight and head home the next morning. I haven't been told yet from them but am wondering if anyone here has used their clinic.
  25. I know! I was shocked to learn it had that much already. I guess that is why I am able to eat the smaller portions without being ravenous, but I do get hungry around 2hrs later..I hope this was just the top up I need. I am very afraid to be too tight, but I feel fine so far. When they do the surgery at Slimband, they now use what they call "Slim Spot technology". They fill the band completely and then defill until they determine where the sweet spot level is - by watching the nerve I am told - so my sweet spot was determined to be at 7cc. They then take out enough, about 1.5 - 2 cc to allow for swelling and healing following surgery.
