What up people! well well welll....its been a long time since we talked. anyway, i had a rough patch there for awhile. i dont know if i depressed or what ever, i just know i was down for a bit. but, im back now and ill give you all a update for those who care. i still havent told anyone that i got the band, and at this point, i doubt i ever will. ask me why...and ill say i dont know. who will ever know what goes on inside my head, but at this point, im keeping it a secret like Victoria's, "know what i mean, hahah" so, iv really been thinking about the future lately. i watched this True Life episode on MTV and there were stories about young peolpe that are going through huge physical life changes. some girls got gastric bypass, another dude got calf implants. im sorry but, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. now that i got that out of my system, no...wait....i didnt. i mean CALF IMPLANTS, cmon, if that was my worst physical problem, i would be, ahhhh mmmm i dont know....jumping for effin joy. ok ok, since i lost a little over 90 lbs im looking better, im not hedious by any means, but i got another 90-100lbs to go. that would bring me down to 210-200 range, and im 6'3, so i think ill look half decent at that point. but the thing that worried me when watching this show was....i could relate to the guy in some way. i have been working out like a fiend. i mean sit ups, crunches, leg lifts, swiss ball exercies, and not to mention my cardio at the punching bag and hiking. im a mchine at this point. "I DO WANT THE PERFECT BODY" was "mr. CALF'S" quote, and i can feel where the dude is coming from. ive been a total slob my whole life. im not just talking about my weight, i dressed dumpy and everything. now...im as sharp as a dagger when it comes to dressing. i find my self talking to people i usualy would of never talked to, and getting complements for my effort. now, this dude on MTV was totaly self absorbed. he thought he was gods gift to women, men, and who ever else wanted a piece. im not down with that, i just can bring my self to that level....or want to. but, i do want that body. the body that people have to do a double take at. at first i was like, "ahhh, cmon Furious, that wont happen to you, that takes time and extreme dedication....deff not going to happen". now after 9 months post op and after about a trillion crunches, i can see it all coming together. im getting some deffinition around the ab area, and the rest of the body is falling in line. now, im not a shallow person, i didnt go through all this to get the "bowflex body", haha, ive seen that ad on tv like a million times now. but, its deff a bonus, since my whole life ive been extremely over weight. ive even considered Lipo....if it is needed when im all done. Because, now im hooked. ive seen old friends from the past and they cant get over how much i changed, even the ladies notice....and what guy dosent like that, i mean cmon. at this time last year, if some one would of told me of all i did so far, i would be like, "yeah right, get right out of town, that would never happen". not to tute my own horn but, "beep beep". i doing it and im like a freight train at this point, 9 months with 90lbs off. once again, "beep beep" i just hope i stay the same...know what i mean. i dont want to loose myself along with the weight. i want to still be the funny dude that people come to when they need a stand up guy to talk to. i dont want to become "mr calfs" at all. on a lighter note, some times i feel a little gay, "not that its a bad thing, cmon people im not that Furious" but i look at dudes with their shirt off, and im like, "ewww i want that body to be mine...wait...wait....no that one!" its a bit odd to be checking out guy's bods for ideas. hahahaha, but thats what im thinking. when i look at mens fitness mags at the supermarket, im thinking, "how long did it take Hue Jackman to get THOSE ABS!" its kind of like motivation, but it works. Well thats it for now. Please comment back, i love to hear from all of you, anything, good, bad, or indifferent. i got to go check out some more dudes for ideas, but enough about my homoerotic escapades, hahahaha, ill catch you on the flip side. oh and before i forget, what do you ladies look for in a guys body. i need real opinions from real women, and mostly that is all of you, so let me know what makes you all googelie eyed for a man, hahaha. STAY MOTIVATED, STAY STRONG......AND OF COURSE......STAY FURIOUS:cursing: -
So this is my first post to RNY. I have been reading alot of the post and the replys by the users. I have to say, you people are amazing. The way you all share opinions, experiences and support one another is almost unheard of in every day life anymore. I go in for my surgery in 75 days. I am actually getting the surgery done on my birthday (I requested by birthday and my doctor was able to accomodate me). I figured I started life on this day 36 years ago and might as well start new one on this date again. I am a type 2 diabetic and my doctor has told me I may not have to take anymore of my diabetic pills even as soon as the day I am released from the hospital. Anyone have any experience with this? Is it possible that I can stop the tidal wave of pills I need to take? My primary doctor has been talking to me about the bypass for over 3 years now. He has told me time and time again this is the cure to type to diabetes. I finally took his advise and set an appointment to go to the seminar on the surgery. I walked out so impressed and hopefull that I went home and started my research online. I am now set up to have the surgery March 18th and cannot wait. The greatest thing about this is my wife has been with me every step of the way and she has her surgery scheduled for 1 month later.

Cheri, I do think that each plan is very specific and while UHC may have some generalized guidelines, there are still little details that change per plan. I would absolutely TRY to submit any and all records you have to get out of whatever waiting period is needed, but don't pin all your hopes on their requirements being satisfied. I spoke with my PCP because I was concerned about my husband. He did all of his monthly (6 of them) weigh-ins at my PCP's office while I went another route and used my surgeon's office (our PCP is MUCH more convenient for my husbands schedule and MUCH closer to our home whereas the surgeon's office is a good 45 minute drive.) Anyway, I was concerned about my husband getting "denied" based on him seeing them vs. the surgeon and guess what? My PCP told me he had someone that had UHC and they did all the required check-ins and the man was waiting for bypass surgery. They denied him (obv. not sure of the specifics of "why") but in the meantime the man developed diabetes, HPB and high cholesterol. Isn't that awful? My husband was approved without a problem, so that was a big sigh of relief. Also I did check with a WW leader who goes to my Curves. She has been a WW Leader for over 20+ years. The WW leaders do NOT have to be registered dieticians...so I guess it would give UHC grounds for denial. Also our plan stipulated that it was BMI of 35-39.9 with at least ONE co-morbidity (and it actually spelled out which ones would qualify as a co-morb) OR a BMI of 40.0+ or greater, no co-morb needed. I fell into the 40+ category and my husband did too (just barely) but he also had a covered co-morb so he would have been approved even if his BMI had slipped below 40, whereas my BMI HAD to stay above 40+ the entire duration of the 6 months of check-ins. My UHC nurse case manager made sure to spell that out for me that I could NOT slip below 40...I appreciated her honesty. It is ALSO part of the reason that I did not do any type of pre-op diet, of course I could have lost a few lbs since my BMI 4 points above the danger line, but I wasn't planning on risking denial over my BMI!!! Good luck, do not give up, that is what they want!!!

Hi, I have had 3 Lapband slips and my doctor is recommending me for a revision to VSG. I just found out that he won't remove the lapband and revise to VSG in one surgery. He does it in two. I can't afford to have 2 separate surgeries. Does anyone know if there are any doctors in the Tampa Bay/St. Petersburg area who will do the Lapband to VSG all on the same day. Please let me know.

I have had two bowel resections due to diverticulitis. I can tell you from years and years and years of history with it, that there it is awful But if you watch your diet and not eat the things that are on your no no list you wont have issues. I am only 5 weeks post VSG and I have not had any issues at all but I haven't had any desire to eat any foods that are on my no no list. It by no means affected my surgery. I actually went in wanting the gastric bypass but with my history of having the bowel resections due to dead tissue from bad diverticulitis bouts they said they didnt want to mess with my bowels so they decided they wanted to go with the sleeve. I was disappointed at first but I have done super good with it and lost over 40 pounds so far so I am pleased. Just take the horrible meds until they are gone, stay away from all the foods they tell you to stay away from and you will be fine

I too told no one except my wife (of course). I was worried about naysayers, especially my family. My older brother and sister both had bypass surgery. My sister lost all the weight she wanted and then developed a heart condition (probably hereditary, our mom had the same thing), so she gained the weight back and has nothing but horror stories and complaints about her experience. My brother is having problems too, the bypass he had works by not only limiting the amount of food but also by malabsorption of nutrients - the "bypass" bypassed a length of his small intestine and he there could not absorb the nutrients and therefore would not gain weight by the food he ate. Well the body is adjusting and the malabsorption is no longer working, he has to severely limit his calories, which is "killing" him he says. He has bouts of hunger and struggles to keep the weight off, and SOME nutrients are still not absorbed right, he takes multiple Vitamins a day just to make up the shortfall. BTW, both spent TENS of thousands on their surgeries, which really miffs them now as they are still struggling to loose weight or at least not get any fatter. Well, long story short I didn't want anyone to talk me out of it, or worse yet try and convince my wife to try and convince ME not to do it. I spent only $5000 for self pay and so far 6+ weeks in I'm 65 lbs down and feeling pretty good. Regardless of my sad story, do what YOU feel is right, you did right by coming here as there are tons of people that are going through or went through the SAME thing you are. Keep the faith, it WILL work out.

Hello GSPTians I am Pranjala from India. I am 27 years old married and am a mother of a 3 year old. I have been fat for as long as I can remember. Obesity runs in my family an so does diabetes. I stand 165 cm tall, weigh 100 kg and suffer from NO co-morbidities so far. I have done several successful weight loss attempts in the past, but few slacks here and there and my weight would always come back crossing the last highest point. I have always loved to exercise but now that I have grown so fat my body doesn't seem to cooperate. The only place I lack is that I am a big foodie with a huge appetite, if I control it I can conquer my battle with the flab. Before comming to this forum I've already had appointments with a couple of surgeons, what left me insecure was the fact that even before evaluating me physically or mentally properly they put me under the category of "suitable for sleeve". But as a matter of fact, I am dead scared of the fact that a part of my stomach will be taken away which has always been a part of me( I am actually sentimental about it); and that staples can (and will) cause scarring over time which may arise a condition for a revision. Anyways, I then came across GSP. And this forum is loaded with so many encouraging stories. Not many surgeons in India do this procedure, and so they tell me its a potential failure (even before it has hit the markets properly). I don't want to believe them blindly, as some doctors have a money mincing attitude(plication is definately cheaper). I just want to know how long can the sutures stay in our system ie. the sutures might give in after a certain period of time(would that require a revision too?). Staples vs sutures what is more acceptable to the body? Can there arise a condition like suture replacement in the future? Will I face any nutritional deficiencies or any food intolerance or dumping syndrome or massive hair loss or wrinkled skin(as I have seen in a lot of female sleeve cases)? Can I do stomach exercises like crunches or breathing exercises after plication? Will there be sever pain after surgery due to the peristalsis of gastric muscle, if yes then for how long? My quarries might sound funny but if you do the needful by throwing some light on them, I will be more confidant with my decision.

I was right there with you. I kept to the liquid diet and let me tell you it was hard!! Now I have had surgery my is Bypass Surgery and I am 6 days in. I cannot keep anything down, I burp and it is the nastiest taste there is. I have kept down watery cream of wheat only a 1/2 cup and I actually get full before eating all of it. It is easy for them to say don't eat that etc. I only want to taste good stuff, but I know I can't I just want some eggs bit I will wait. Stay strong!! If you had GERD already bypass is the better option for you than the sleeve. Your doctor doesn't offer the bypass?

I just got mine today and Aetna 72 hours for lapband to Gastric Bypass Revision.

Palatable. Protien shake
Kelly827 replied to mamie60's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do the premier shakes as well. After a month I was starting to struggle to finish them. A friend who is also had gastric bypass suggested making a smoothie with it. Now I add one banana and ice and blend it with the shake and can tolerate it well again. -

Two Surgeries? How Long In Between?
katey1469 replied to chatty826's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had my band removed and converted to a gastric bypass all in the same surgery. I had this done because of complications with my band and not getting the results I needed. I am 5 weeks post op today. I feel great and I am getting wonderful results. My doctor said the surgery and recovery could not have gone any better! -
Very discouraged. Two weeks out and still stalled
Starfish23 replied to ElseeG's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am doing a sleeve to bypass conversion in June due to Gerd. In the beginning when I would stall I found water (or lack of) was the problem. When I was conscious of what I was drinking I realized the more I drank the more weight came off. Drink so your body can flush the fat out. See if that works. -
OMG you poor thing! At least they were able to fix it, right? How scary! It's a risk, and risks triple with revisions from band to sleeve for leaks. At least you are home and safe. (HUGS)

Diabetes cured post-op, then it returned? Let me know of this happened to you.
Cindy.mcg replied to Cindy.mcg's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Okay I will need to talk to my doctor then, I just didn't think about asking this I have pre-op Tuesday These are the articles I read, and yes they do say after weight loss surgery but they seem to refer to bypass more than sleeve. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2012/11/121126142957.htm http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/11/28/weight-loss-surgery-may-not-combat-diabetes-long-term/ http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/253394.php -
He is converting it to a bypass, remove a hernia and shave the pouch.

I need help with questions to ask the Surgeon
RAAinNH posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am finally meeting with the Surgeon on Thursday morning and would like help with what questions I need to ask him. I will write them down so I don't blank and forget until after the appointment. I am having a lapband to gastric sleeve revision. I've been told that this surgeon is excellent and I feel very comfortable with having him do the surgery. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
