  1. GENEPRO and unjury unflavored I have found that both of these are good as far as not changing the flavor, but they do change the texture for me which is unpalatable to me. Not disagreeing, but just to contrast...I can't detect any texture change with genpro, but Unjury tastes AND feels weird to me. If you can get a sample or borrow a scoop from someone in your support group, do that. Everyone's taste/sensitivity is different.

    Any February Sleevers

They gave me the okay to start Protein with milk yesterday, 4 days post-op. So far what I did is I use 8oz Simply Smart fat free milk (10 grms. protein) plus vanilla unjury (21 grms. of protein) plus I put a scoop of GENEPRO (unflavoured protein) which has 30 grms. of protein so in those 8 oz. I can get the required 60 grms. of protein for the day. I do not love the flavor but I am not really carzy about Protein shakes. Once I can start with yogurts and the other stuff I am planning on just using the Genepro unflavoured protein in yogurt, cream soups, etc., I have tried it before and it really does not change the texture or taste.

    Unjury protein powder questions?

I use Unjury everyday. I use the chocolate splendor and I mix it with water and a tablespoon of Genepro and get 50 plus grams of protein in 8 ounces, I am 5 months post op and at goal now. (Just two days ago). It worked for me to get my protein in.

Honest truth about genepro protein powder

I never tried GENEPRO so I cannot answer your question. I found Protein shakes to be almost unpalatable. But there are many choices available and one needs to experiment until one finds one that can be tolerated. I used Muscle Milk Light. The protein powders cannot be mixed by hand but a blender such as a Ninja or Bullet Blender should be used. I found that by blending in a banana, it made the Protein shake more palatable. There are also premixed Protein drinks available and some are tasty. There is another type of product called Protein Ice. It has 42 grams of protein in a 20 ounce bottle. It comes in a number of flavors. I tried it and found that it tasted horrible, but my wife tried it and thought it tasted O.K. Another choice is milk. During the winter months, I drink a cup of hot cocoa (no sugar added).

Six months post-op+ : The Sophomores Thread

How is everyone incorporating fiber into their diet? I have IBS and used to have dumping syndrome BEFORE surgery. Now nothing wakes these bowels up except MOM and senna tea, and I have to get this under control. My team advised me to add fiber but I’m struggling to eat anything after I eat my 2-3 oz of protein. I thought about going back to my genepro protein powder to get half of my protein in for the day and then focusing on the fibrous veggies and beans for my meals instead of protein.
  6. What protein powder are you using? I like Genepro but they are late in the shipment and my soy protein isolate tastes really, really, funny. Glad you are doing well!
  7. Hello! I am 3 weeks post op tomorrow. I am having a very hard time with my multi-Vitamins and Protein. I bought some chewable citricale at CVS and it is so disgusting it makes me gag. I ordered some liquid Wellnese online - it came today and the taste is unbearable. Something has happened to my taste buds - things I could power through before are really impossible now. If I force myself to drink/chew it, I just throw it up. Also, am struggling with protein. I did the premiere shakes for pre-op and was able to tolerate them fine (didn't love them but got through it). Now, I cannot even look at them - seriously. Someone on here mentioned GENEPRO - i bought that and have been able to add to crystal light but it's still got a whey aftertaste and having to face tons of that every day has me really frustrated. I also bought some Syntrax Necter and it's just as bad as the others. Today, I bought some Carnation Instant and going to try that but it doesn't have as much protein so I am going to have to drink so much of it, if I can stand it. So, any help, suggestions, commiserating or encouragement is welcome. I spent most of today in tears. It just seems like this is never going to end - that everything I ever drink/eat is going to taste like whey protein. Tomorrow, I am supposed to start soft foods, but honestly, nothing sounds good at all. I thought I would be so excited to add new things. But it all just makes me nauseous. I stopped even having Soup 4 days ago because I couldn't stomach it. So, all I am really having is tons of crystal light whey drink. It's depressing.
  8. I bought unflavored protein powder and add it to soups, yogurt, purées. That had been helping tremendously in trying to achieve my daily goals. I went to GNC and bought Genepro. They were very nice and helpful to find the right protein that would work for me.

    November sleevers in Mexico?

Update: Day 5 Post Op The numbness in my abdomen is completely gone and now I feel the full effect of the surgery. I'm extremely sore but I'm able to get out of bed by myself and take a shower without assistance. I cannot dry myself off or bend over yet though. Riding in a car sucks. I managed to walk 1 mile today with a few breaks along the way. Today was the first day I met my protein and fluid requirement. Genepro is a lifesaver! I had a gas bubble trapped under my right ribcage today that took my breath away. I had my husband beating my back to try and break it up. I'm still very tired each day. I seem to have little spurts of energy but then I crash again. I'm hoping by Monday, one week out, I'll feel better. :-)
  10. I am a little over 3 weeks post bypass and am having severe nausea to the point of looking at protein shakes and dry heaving. My dr is well aware of this issue and I had blood work drawn today- no results yet. My question is I cannot handle any taste of protein powder and I have read that genepro can be mixed into anything and is truly tasteless so I'm wondering if anyone has actually tried it and how "tasteless" it is. Thanks!

Honest truth about genepro protein powder

I find all protein shakes disgusting. I use genepro and love it. I can put it in just about anything, food, drinks, hot, cold...except milk based products but that's just personal taste preference. It will make clear drinks look cloudy but if you closed your eyes I bet you could barely tell it's in there. I am STILL pre-op so I cannot attest to blood work but I have read multiple posts in which others have said that their blood work is great while using it and several doctors are now recommending it to their patients. I THINK the science behind the 30g protein in 15g product is that they claim to put it through a process that takes out everything in whey but the pure protein itself.

    Any February Sleevers?

Isopure makes an unflavored one as well as genepro Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app
  13. Mrswrath, I could not stomach the protein drinks either. I ordered GENEPRO on of amazon,it is supposed to be odorless and tasteless, and it is for the most part. I mix it with swiss miss sugar free hot cocoa and it is definetely easier to get down. in phase 3 I got to start making it with skim milk instead of water, even better!
  14. They were sued for labeling that was confusing/misleading and it went to court and there was a judgement reached. Your ignorance and attitude is more then likely how you ended up where you did. As another member here replied: "UCLA recommends GENEPRO to all their patients" so i guess you are smarter and possess more knowledge then the staff and Dr's at UCLA medical center? Lose your attitude and open your mind and you might be a lot happier in your life...or maybe not as you might just be one of those miserable people that point their finger at everybody else instead of looking in the mirror when it comes to their issues. ??? Good luck to you!
  15. 2 weeks and 4 days. OMG. It's finally almost here. I can't believe my heart actually did a little "skip" when I saw my own ticker. Preop with the surgeon on Wednesday, then 1 week of liquids, then BAM! Surgery Day! WOW. As hard as I have worked to jump through all the hoops, and read everything in the world that has been written about VSG, and watch all the you tube videos (some more than once), it's nearly here. Holy cra@p! It's ok, though. I'm ready. I need this. I will have the utmost respect for my sleeve, and I will lose this weight and get healthy. I am down to only 2 pair of jeans that fit. I will just have to handle them with care, cuz I refuse to buy anything in the size I am today. I have closets full of clothes in step down sizes in jeans (and everything else) that are still practically new. Deep breath, and keep on keeping on. 4/23 is going to be here before I know it. It might be time for me to start gathering some of the necessities I'm going to need once I'm home. No sense in rushing out the day before, and risk forgetting something. Like Gas-x. I hear I'll need that. Biotene mouth spray, I've heard that comes in handy in the hospital. I have the Protein shakes and powders I like....plus my (really) unflavored GENEPRO I can mix into anything to get my protein in on liquids only. What else? What have I forgotten?
  16. For all you September Sleevers just like me on FB look for September Sleevers 2017... it's a place you can share your thoughts, concerns, and be supportive with each other. I was sleeved on 9/15 everything was smooth for me no meds after the hospital for me. I am able to write my elliptical and on purée foods I started 218 and at 203 right now. The only problem I had was I couldn't stand my shakes so I ended up buying genepro from GNC it literally has no taste and 30 grams on protein per scoop. You can add it to your water, soup, broth basically anything... Good Luck Sleevers! We got this!![emoji3]

Genepro- 30 grams of protein/serving untrue?

I have been using it for aproximately 10 months. I have read all the negatives but I can tell you I love it and it works for me. A gentleman that worked for the company contacted me after reading I was having a hard time getting my Protein in after surgery. Stated his mother inlaw used it after her surgery....he even sent me some samples. With GENEPRO I have been able to keep my protein level up to the 120 that I need with a DS. I still have a real hard time with most meats. Since I have been able to keep my protein up and have kept up with my Vitamins I have not lost any of my hair (I was expecting to since I did lose all of my hair with a previous surgery). My hair is back thick like it was when I was young and it is curly and I have never had curly hair!!! Just stating this has worked for me I have no complaints.....I count it as 30gm of protein....I mix it with Crystal Light Lemonade and keep it on my desk and sip on it all day....If I'm a little short at the end of the day....I mix another one and take it to bed with me and sip on it all night.....I get Water in at the same time.
  18. Can you have broth with Genepro (unflavored protein)? My surgeon requires Bariatrics Advantage shakes.

    What soups?

    I like unjury and genepro

    What soups?

@@eso GENEPRO is my favorite. If you buy it, make sure you go to the Musclegen Research website, they have great instructions for how to best blend it into different temperature foods.
  21. Genepro lost a lawsuit over misleading labeling regarding the protein content. It never had 30 grams of protein in 7 grams of product. The "new" Genepro is the same product without the falsification.
  22. Court ruled and they changed the label and UCLA medical center and LOTS of other Dr's recommend the GENEPRO protein above all others! Thats a fact! Label has been changed on GENEPRO 3 and old label states it is equivalent too what you would absorb out of 30 grams of protein via whey protein. Protein is solid and labelling stunk so it was changed! LOL! 30 grams of whey protein will only net you approx 10 grams of protein as the absorption rate is horrible! 1 tablespoon nets you over 10 grams of protein that will actually be absorbed by your body vs ingesting 30 grams of whey that your body will expel over 60% of! WHY WOULD YOU PUT YOUR BODY THRU THAT? LOL!
  23. Report away! No personal attack at all, just factual and truthful reply to A RUDE POSTING! LOL! What ever goes on, the truth hurts unfortunately and LOTS of people would rather pop off with an attitude in response to the truth instead of receiving the truth and doing something with it to improve thier lives and condition. Posting a tick tock reply with rude sentiment isnt a personal attack? Thats some more of that defensive EMOTIONAL response that will keep people like that in a vicious cycle that will never be broken until they face the facts, period. So you think its a one way street here when it comes to these postings? If, so part of the problem and not helping to find a solution. My inital posting was serious and meant to help people struggling to understand the Genepro thing so they could get on with being healthy! I didnt come out of the blue with defensive postings but i wont sit around and let 12,000 plus poster be rude to me because they think they can and again, all ive done in replying to that member is state the truth and facts. Sorry if the truth and facts bother you.
  24. If you READ the postings properly then would know that your own member TOMO stated that the UCLA med center recommends GENEPRO to ALL their bariatric patients and they also posted the link to UCLA backing their claim! I didnt state that fact...TOMO did. Again, If you READ the postings then you would know that i have never used GENEPRO protein nor do i know anybody affiliated with the company, but i do know two people that have used this product with with great success and have read about dozens more on this very website. My initial posting was about all the false garbage and plain false statements being made about the product. I did read up on the company and the entire lawsuit and the courts findings as well so i do know what true and whats not. Again, If you read the postings you would know i dont bully but i wont BE bullied either and the truth hurts sometimes! Im taking care of business and im helping people all the time to get healthy and fit with zero kick back to me other then Im always happy to see people achieve happiness in their lives and being PHYSICALLY FIT always, always helps people to be happy! Piss and moan all you want...insult all you want and tell us all about how you know everything about everything when it comes to nutrition and health because YOU HAVE BEEN A NURSE FOR 20 YEARS, yet you have your own health issues? You should slow down your negativity yourself and go for a walk to work off some of that...negativity. Soon to be fit??? Your are a nurse so you of all people should know that when it comes to getting fit, waiting around for magic beans wont do you any good at all...get after it and put the work in. Hope all goes well for you and i hope you are able to get rid of all that... negative and hostile anxiety. As far as trolling goes...you are the one spouting nonsense and misinformation, not me. God Bless!
  25. Genepro is endorsed and recommended by many medical facilities, including UCLA School of Medicine to all their bariatric patients. The science is sound but people believe whatever they want to believe. http://surgery.ucla.edu/workfiles/bariatrics/healthy-eating/UCLA-Post-Op-Diet-Updated-2021.pdf
