Almost 1 yr post op-willing to mentor :)

I've tried genepro. That's what I currently use if I don't get enough throughout the day or something but I don't chose to use as an everyday thing. I hate powders and it's been easier to get down than any other powder I've tried, but a powder can only be so good.. I've found that if u mix it with something really cold like a smoothie or slush or really hot tea or coffee it tastes better.

    Protein supplements?!

I just bought some of the Genepro two weeks ago and I love it. I've been adding it to my liquids (iced tea, crystal light, etc.) and so far it goes great with everything. That said, I'm not a doctor so can't tell you if its the right or wrong kind of protein. I honestly don't think there is a wrong kind of protein but that's me. Mixes well? check Flavorless? check small portion size? check can double up portions? check doesn't change texture of your liquid? check Not sure what else you're looking for, but it suits me just fine.
  3. I have a 32oz protein/fiber shake with 30-40g Protein everyday plus a protein or whole grain bar bar with 5-20g protein. So that's 35-60g protein before even eating any meals. Then I eat 4-5 meals with protein, veggies, fruit and whole grains. I have no idea how many calories I consume (or carbs or fat for that matter ). My nut told me not to worry about calories, just to eat healthy. It's been a simple, basic, very easy to follow and very effective postop plan. Just what I wanted. I didn't have surgery to be on a diet the rest of my life. My personal thoughts about limiting calories..... If I let my body get used to functioning on a low calorie diet, it will be a lot easier to regain and harder to lose once I got to goal and switched to a "maintenance" diet. But since I basically always ate whatever I wanted, when I was hungry, within reason and in moderation, that's what my body is used to so the transition to maintenance was seamless and anticlimactic. In fact, Even at 9 pounds under goal, I'm still losing and it's a daily feat to try and eat more just to stop losing. I guess one of these days I should try and track carbs/calories just to post for all the number crunchers on here. And just FYI, our bodies can only absorb a limited amount of protein at a time. Be careful you aren't consuming more than 20g/hour to get the maximum benefit. I take 2-3 hours to drink my protein smoothie in between appointments. I've never used the GENEPRO but have read good reviews on here. I make my smoothies with Muscle Milk, Premier, unjury, Spirutein, Syntrax Matrix, Syntrax nectar, and Garden of Life products.

    Protein supplements?!

I am having trouble getting to my Protein quota set by my doctor; at least 75-85 grams per day. I have been mixing protein powder with Protein drinks just to get more in the mornings...but, boy oh boy, the calories add up. My morning routine comes to about 516 calories. That's one serving of Chobani yogurt with 1 packet of unflavored protein power and one Lean Body Protein shake with one packet of unflavored protein powder. Those three items add up to more than half of the 800 calories I've been trying to stick to as advised for these first few months. I also take a handful of Vitamins which must be worth at least 5-10 calories each. Wondering if anyone knows anything about GENEPRO Genetic Tri-Protein Peptide. It says it contains 30 grams of protein (instanized peptide whey, hydrolyzed whey, and genetic hexapeptide protein). Is this the kind of protein I want and need? One thing nice is that the serving size (one scoop) is much smaller than the packets like unjury or Jarrrow Formulas, which I have been using. Plus it's only got 15mg of sodium. But is it the "right kind" of protein???? Thanks to anyone who can whey in on this topic

Clear protein for clear liquid phase?

    Genepro on amazon
  9. Good you started out with samples. I did not. When I was during my 6 months, I bought some different proteins. I got the large containers. I did try Body Fortress triple chocolate,I mixed it with dark chocolate silk milk,Hershey chocolate powder,Hershey syrup and ice and blend. It was really good even my grandchildren liked it. Only thing was I didn't measure because I was making a whole container. I need to scale it down and count calories. I did buy some sugar-free Hershey chocolate. I got that at Wal-mart. I bought the Fuzzy Navel added Crystal light(orange a whole container)and I may have used some diet jello. I don't remember if mixed with water or milk but it was horrible to me and my kids. So once again the samples are the best way to go.I bought some already mixed protein shakes that I read about on the forum. I'll have to try Muscle Milk,Premium, I got some Simple Start Breakfast it has 15g of protein, but it has 14g of sugar. I haven't found out what the sugar and carb count will be. I ordered Genepro from Amamzon its suppose to be tasteless, odorless, and blends well with hot temp.
  10. @@hharrison43 I actually start pre-op on 26th. And go see the doctor on the 29th.So glad to have new friends on this journey. It seem like this time moving quickly. I see my primary on the 23rd. So I may even start on the 24th. I'm waiting on my GENEPRO Protein to be delivered. I hope it's as good as the advertised. So lets make sure we keep in contact. I'll put you on my friend list as soon as I remember how to do it.

    Struggling

I drink most of my Protein early in the day. I put mocha Protein powder in my decaf coffee for a nice frappe like drink and I also drink a Protein shake mid morning....that helps me get in 60g of protein before lunch and any more is a bonus. I usually have greet yogurt later towards the evening and you can get 12g of protein out of chobani. I have also read about others getting protein powders that are more like crystal light.... Maybe you would tolerate something like that better. I bought that GENEPRO people were talking about and it really is tasteless... The scoops are tiny and you can add it to anything.

    African American vsgers!

I drink Premier Protein shakes 11 oz (30 gram) protein, I also use unjury unflavored protein powder to make green smoothies. Genepro protein powder is one I like but my NUT is skeptical about its benefits.

    Sept. 8th & 9th Gastric Bypass surgery.

I usually drink a 35g can protein shake in the morning and at lunch I eat soup and add 30g of Genepro protein. I also sip on hot tea and crystal lite throughout the day and at some point I will have iced tea. I eat Greek yogurt which gives me about 12g protein and if I want a coffee treat I do decaf coffee mixed with chocolate mocha protein 25g... But not everyday. I manage to get at least 60g of protein in everyday ... Sometimes more. Drinking is very easy for me but the soups, pudding and yogurts fill me up quickly. I have no clue if I am getting 64 ounces of what is considered liquids but I know I am not drinking enough plain water.

What will I need as for protein etc.

GENEPRO http://www.musclegen.net/ .... this is oderless and tasteless and does not clump. You can add it to hot or cold....or just sprinkle over your food. This stuff is great. One tablespoon equals a scoop of whey and has 30 grams of Protein. It is approved by John Hopkins and has 96% absorbtion. You can also order it from Amazon. I go by every morning to a shake shop....get a Chunky Monkey (35 grams of protein).....add a scoop of Genepro (30 grams of protein)....later I fix a Crystal Light and add another scoop.....I already have 95 grams for the day!!! I understand you can contact the website and they will send you a sample?

    Protein supplements?!

Good topic, I was debating whether I would start one like it myself. I bought the Lean Body premixed in bulk just before mysurgery - I liked the flavor just slightly less than the Muscle Milk but they had the Lean Body on sale. I found after surgery that though I can stomach the flavor (not as yummy as before but not gross, either), the consistency or SOMEthing makes it nearly impossible for me to swallow more than about 1/4 of a container of it at a time... I bought lots of Protein powder single serving samples at the local Vitamin store but didn't much like any of them enough... and I discovered that making Protein shakes, and drinking protein shakes... just wasn't something I was looking for. One of the samples was for a flavorless protein supplement that was ok but still make a major change to the texture of the drink which I didn't care for. Somewhere I found a link for MuscleGen Research's GENEPRO Protein Powder which is advertised as adding 30g of protein in a single tablespoon and that it doesn't change the flavor or texture of anything you add to it, so supposedly you could add it to coffee, sodas, food, whatever. I thought about it for a couple weeks then ultimately bought it from Amazon (saved me the hefty shipping charge) and it came a few days ago. I've just started adding one tablespoon to my 28oz shaker/bottle/drink container for the last 3 days and although there is a tiny bit of clumping, and a noticeable head of foam right after shaking, it really doesn't change the flavor of my crystal light, coffee, or Water in any way. Which is what I was looking for. I can also report (although I cannot knowledge-ably claim a causal relationship between the genepro and the loss) i broke my stall of almost 6 weeks in the last 2 days, which I am happy about. upping my protein was something I thought about for a long while but since I was over 60g everyday already didn't think was a necessity. If adding the 30g is what got the scale to move, I won't complain! fyi: http://smile.amazon.com/Musclegen-Research-Genepro-Genetic-Tri-Protein/dp/B00K6OSDYA/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1410996551&sr=1-1-catcorr&keywords=genepro

    Anyone 21 and doing this

Ur moms got a good name! Lol well before surgery I bought some GENEPRO Protein powder (it's best mixed with hot tea or coffee) and Protein shakes to try and boost my protein intake, I don't think it actually helped with the surgery, but it helped get me used to all the not so wonderfully tasting protein supplements I got to look forward to post surgery. I feel great that I had the surgery! Of course the first 12-24 hours are the absolute worse, but once you get past that, the pain subsides and Ull be up and walking pretty soon. I know not all drs put in drains, but if u end up getting one, just know that if your in pain after the first day, it's most likely cause by that. Or gas. Ull hear it all over this forum, but it's for a reason! after surgery, walk walk walk!! It's the only thing that will relieve gas pain! I'm still on the full liquid stage right now so I can't really share anything I've enjoyed since surgery except sugar free Jello. Lol if ur a reader, bring a book. I brought my cell, books, and laptop to the hospital with me, I don't think I even took my laptop out of my bag the whole time I was there (which was only 3 days, 2 nights) I slept a lot of the time or I was roaming the hall. Since my brother was there with me I walked to his room a lot and we just say and talked about how weird we felt, or where we were having pain, etc. we were still in shock that either if us actually went thru with it so there was a lot to talk about. good luck to you!
  17. I'm 3 weeks post op. Right now I'm using unjury, Premiere, Isopure and GENEPRO. I'm going to try and use up the first three (since I'm cheap) then switch to Genepro only (it's odorless and tasteless). I'm at 60g a day but my goal today is 90g. Carol
  18. Hello everyone! Tomorrow marks my second week post op and all is well! I'm down 14 pounds and still on full liquids. Once I got a week post op in, drinking 64 oz of fluids has not been a problem. I am still struggling with Protein since all of it (except GENEPRO Protein, so glad I found that!) is so horribly sweet, but most days I do hit 60g. I want to be at 90g so that is my goal for today. All the swelling is gone and the gas was gone in about a week. My incisions are healing very well. I've had no problems so far and for that I am thankful! Not being hungry is an amazing and empowering feeling! I feel like I'm in control for the first time in my adult life when it comes to food. I've cooked most of my family's meals since surgery, and they've had take-out a couple of times and it made no difference to me at all. I was afraid I would feel a little resentful but I actually enjoy watching them eat. They were worried too so I had to convince them that it didn't bother me in the least. I go back to work next Monday so I plan to experiment with pureed foods this weekend so that I have a good plan on what to take with me to make sure I meet all my requirements. I'm open to questions about my experience so far. Here's wishing you all a great day and much success! Carol

Btw.... The genepro is awesome.... The scoops are so small and it didn't change the taste or consistency of my soup at all. It's definitely worth it.

    Help. Nausea all day

I've heard a lot about a protein powder called GenePro. I'm going to be ordering it this week. I hope it works as good as what I'm hearing. It's odorless and tasteless, so I'm hoping that will be to my benefit. I also don't like the protein bars, or the protein chips. But, I just bought some hummus and I'm going to try that on the protein chips to see if that helps at all. Also, try looking on Pinterest for high protein recipes. I've found quite a few that are very good! One last thought....I've been using the sugar free carnation instant breakfast as my chocolate protein powder. It only has 15g of protein per package, but it takes 2 packets to equal one scoop, so it is just as much protein as in the protein powders! And it tastes great!!!

I got my genepro in the mail yesterday and I plan to add it to soup today. It was kinda pricey for such a small bag but the scoops are smaller too.

My Dr. is amazing! His entire office even went on a two week liquid diet drinking only the Bariatric Advantage Meal Replacement Shakes just so they could better understand their patients! Right now I'm looking for a better protein powder. The BA kind is like loose mud, and unappetizing! I also have Iso-Pure unflavored, but it has a medicinal quality that leaves me gagging. I've heard good things about Genepro, and may give it a try soon.
