  1. I'm 10 months out and still blitz my pills in a coffee grinder and mix it into a tablespoon of applesauce. I used to be able to shotgun 10 pills at a time, and now post op I still feel super sick when I swallow just a single pill. 🤷‍♀️
  2. So, I'm at my 6 mo surgiversary. I have lost 60 pounds (down from 36 to 26 BMI), 72% EWL. I'm proud of my weight loss. I look a million times better, my diabetes and sleep apnea have resolved, I have lots more energy, and I have increased confidence to pursue my goals. My projected 12 mo weight per the online calculators is 173, and I'm currently at 167, so I'm certainly doing well. And... I would like to lose more weight, another 10-20 pounds, which would get me down to "healthy" BMI and closer to my ideal body weight. But... my weight loss has almost completely stalled. In the past month, I lost 2.6 pounds, and I haven't lost anything in the past 3 weeks. At this rate, losing another 10-20 pounds would be a loooooong haul. My daily calories have crept up to 1200 to 1400. If I go below 1200, I'm just too hungry. I will admit I could be more physically active. How should I think about all of this? Most friends and family are encouraging me to stop and be comfortable where I am... not to lose "too much." Should I just get comfortable with where I am and focus on maintenance? Or should I keep pushing against the odds?
  3. I know this is old but I have been on Suboxone for 10 years now, my pain management dr told me and the surgeon he wants me to continue taking my 4mg of suboxone through surgery and that if the surgeon had any questions about medicating me for pain after my sleeve surgery he would be happy to discuss it with him. I'm not sure if they have spoken yet but have a meeting with the surgeon in about a week and surgery in less than 5 weeks so we shall find out if they have me follow his instructions of continuing to take it or not and if I do how pain control goes. I've heard of other pain patients actually taking percocet for breakthrough pain while on subs so i don't see it having a negative effect but with all the horror stories about precipitated withdrawals when I started taking subs I can't lie im definitely nervous.
  4. Mine went from 10 wide to 9.5 regular... totally didn't expect it.
  5. Man, I am going to have to try the built bars. My rule is no less than 1g protein per 10 calories and under 5 sugars. Carbs are not a huge deal for me because I don't eat much anyway and I am allowed to. I randomly try different one, I really like QUEST brand and keep them on hand regularly. But I will randomly grab a new one to try from a convenience store where I can buy and sample 1 of them rather than buying a box and not like them. My latest try was the "Snickers + protein" bar. I was VERY let down. Didn't taste like snickers AT ALL and it wasn't good regardless. I took 1 bite and tossed it. Guess I am going for a built bar next time.
  6. I got the call to be at the hospital at 10:00 am tomorrow. Surgery is around noon. Here we go!
  7. I second Built Bars as the best protein bars available. They’re lower in calories and sugar than most other protein bars. I wouldn’t consider them “meal replacement bars,” but perhaps you are using that term loosely. You should easily be able to find a coupon code for 12%-15% off with Honey or Capital One browser extensions. Be warned, though — you will get hooked on them and buy way too many because they keep releasing limited-edition flavors. I personally prefer the regular bars to the puffs, but they are all delicious. Pro tip: a lot of the bars are better warmed in the microwave (10-15 seconds on high, or use the “soften butter” setting if you have one).
  8. Today was my pre op appointments. I first met with the resident, then the surgeon and then the nutritionist. Then I went for my Covid test and then on to anesthesia and finally the lab. It was a busy day, but I managed to stop on the way home for a hair cut. 😅 I am starving!!! Today I drank three Gatorade Zero with protein, 3 sf jello cups, the broth from a can of chicken noodle soup mixed with a packet of ProCel for an extra 10 G protein…and probably half a box of sf popsicles. Okay, not really…but a LOT of popsicles. One more day and then surgery. Hopefully I won’t be hungry anymore after that. A big, fat taco with mild sauce would taste so good!
  9. Hello all, I started my wild journey back in 2019. I met with a surgeon, did 6 months of meetings with a dietician, psyc evaluation and was finally approved by my surgeon. Then when it came time to schedule the hospital put a pause on these surgeries due to Covid. Fast forward two years later and I still haven’t had the surgery. I just reached back out to the doc to get tha ball rolling again. I also reached out to insurance to see if I would have to start over and it looks like I have to mee the requirements (and I did) within 4 years of surgery. Has anyone else experienced a pause like this and what should I expect from the doc? Just curious what is next and timing. Thanks.
  10. Yes. Before I was really fat I (when I was young) wore a size 8.5 or 9 wide. After I gained all that weight I wore a 10 wide and sometimes 11. After losing my weight, my feet are back to an 8.5 or 9 wide. Unfortunately, my feet have been wide since the day I was born. I wish I could lose that too! It's wonderful buying smaller shoes though! August surgery buddies!

Something they didn't tell me (but they said they did tell me): about 10-14 days post-op you might feel intense pain on your left side. Like a pulling, twinging, sharp pain that gets worse when you bend over or try to sit or even move the wrong way. Totally different pain that the post-op pain. Apparently this is caused because all the swelling is gone and your stomach/intestines are no longer "cushioned" within that swelling so they move around a bit more and the internal stitches/incisions are moving around. Nothing to be worried about and completely normal (according to my office). But holy cats was it scary!!!! I thought FOR SURE something was wrong.
  12. Weird nsv as of late. I used to be a size 11 in women's shoes at target. I recently bought a new pair of sneakers from target and had to get a 10. Now that I'm wearing them they're actually too loose and I could've went down to a 9 or 9.5. I didn't realize your feet get smaller when losing lbs. August surgery buddies!

Stalls are so annoying, I actually GAINED weight yesterday, lost some today but I'm still heavier than I was two days ago. I was so looking forward to getting under 100 kilos (220 pounds) because I haven't been under that weight in more than 10 years. 101 kilos is exactly where I've gotten when I've dieted on my own, so it would be a breakthrough for me to get to 100 or 99, but it's not likely to happen this week now.

    Mini Goals :)

Today I’m starting my first day of week 3 post op (2nd week of purées). I had hoped by today I would have achieved one of my specific mini goals. I was hoping to end the month under 300 lbs. Seeing that “2” in front of my weight for the first time in nearly 20 yrs. was something have have dreamed about but always fell short of since crossing that 300 point. The closest I got to that on my own was 309. Started out strong loosing about 23 lbs my first week, only to hit a big stall during my second week. I was struggling on purées to hit my water, protein and calorie goals. I won’t lie, I was prepared for a stall week 3 - but not week 2. It was so frustrating hovering right at the mark 300 on the scales, but I refused to let myself get discouraged and focused how far I had come so far!! This morning I hopped on the scales and low and behold I had movement and I’m solidly under 300!!! It may only be just barely, but I’m at 298 and that feels soooooooooo good! There is nothing quite as motivating as hitting goals and making progress… even small goals. June 2021 - my heaviest was 382. I lost 50 pounds leading up to my pre op liquid diet. Another 10 pounds was lost on the liver shrining diet. Today I am 16 pounds away from having lost 100 pounds! I can’t even believe I am saying that!!! That seems attainably close for the first time ever (to loose 100 pounds!). I have a long way to go. My final goal is less of a number and more of a feeling of being healthy - what feels right … but I’m more motivated than ever to tick off these mini goals one at a time and get to maintenance.

Will cravings for sweets and carbs stop

I’m beginning my 3rd week post op. So far I haven’t experienced “hunger” in the true sense of the word. I have had head hunger/cravings twice since my pre-op diet… both were when I had access to those foods (my kids birthday party and treats brought home from a fantasy football party) and they have taken me a little to work through, because it’s usually for things that would derail me if I had them right now. I’m happy to report I did not give in to the cravings. I have some mornings where I wake up feeling unsettled. If I wait to long to eat I don’t feel well (but if I eat to early I don’t feel well) - so those mornings I’ll start the day with 1/2 a shake (one full shake is to much right now) . That allows me the time to get ready for my day, take my meds & let them kick in and give me time to work on my water before having something to eat around 10:30. Since I don’t feel hungry - I try to work around a schedule for eating and drinking to help meet my goals. I tend to eat more than I should (by a bite or two) and then feel uncomfortable or my stomach hurts - if I don’t plan or eat mindfully… but it’s getting easier with experience and time (and I imagine that will continue).
  16. I lost from my upper body first: chest, upper back, arms, neck, face. I also lost elsewhere, but it was very noticeable quickly up top. I'm pear shaped to begin with, so it just reinforced that being the fact. I had to replace my bras pretty quickly because I was swimming in them. Now, if I look at my measurements I've lost probably the same amount (10 inches or so) from my chest and my hips, but since I'm pear shaped and always carried more in my bottom half, I'm still larger down there.

    Stalls and weight gain

It is not "weight gain" it is weight fluctuation. Like you said, people fluctuate. Yesterday, you may have been retaining less water. Today you might be retaining more. It really is best not to weigh yourself everyday, it will drive you mad. But, if you do. Try to weigh yourself at the same time everyday. I can and have gained 10 lbs from morning to evening because I was so swelled up and had so much water retention. I can visually see it in my ankles and legs. It doesn't really happen that drastically now that I have lost quite a bit of weight but it still happens.

where did you loose weight first?

I lost about 50 prior to my liquid diet and another 10 on that. I noticed in how my cloth fit, especially my waist band (big gaps). And then how shirts fit (arms and shoulders). I lost another 23 the first week post surgery and see it in my face. But I noticed this week my bra cups have more room… so it seems to be coming off all over.

    Stalls??

I was in my second week (today is day 1 of week 3) and I’m seemingly in a stall. I had been loosing up to my liquid diet (small amounts). Lost about 10 (despite starting my period the night before surgery) in the pre-op liquid diet. Then I lost 23 pounds my first week. Once I started purées I found it harder to make protein/calorie/water goals and I hit a stall. So I’m hoping that I can get out of that stall soon. I hear the first month is the biggest loss and the first 3 months are when you see your most progress so hopefully I will get back on track soon.

    October surgery friends??

Hello everyone! I am Having the gastric bypass on 10-4-22. Very nervous and excited.
  24. Hi All, I had surgery 10 months ago and hit my 18 month goal at 6 months. However, since then I fluctuate 2+/- lbs for the last 4 months. I have lost 2 pants sizes, about 6 inches from my waist, and gained about 3 inches on my hips. I can’t get past 140/142 lbs on the scale. I have increased my protein, watched my carb intake, increased my exercise and still haven’t dropped past 140 lbs. has any had this happen? My dietician still hasn’t responded after multiple attempts of outreach.

    July 2022 peeps!

Hi! Congratulations on the weight loss 👍🏻 I had my surgery on 7/28 and had lost 13lbs by 3 weeks then nothing for 10 days. Now at 4 weeks I’m at 18lbs. Every bit of advice I’ve gotten or seen from people ahead of me on this thread or others has helped so much. I don’t weigh myself every day now and I’ve taken the phrase “ be compassionate with myself “ to heart. Just last week I was on here wondering if my surgery was successful and now I’m feeling much better about it. Hang in there, from what I’m reading these stalls happen to all of us.
