  1. I am nearly 9 months out from surgery and have lost about 75 lbs. I still have about 25 lbs. to go to get to my final goal weight, but it has been tough sledding the past two months (last month I only lost 3 lbs!). I am eating about 1,200 calories a day and exercising 5 days a week (primarily cardio ... walk/jog intervals or Zumba class or exercise DVDs). I have definitely stepped up the intensity and duration of my workouts the past month. My eating could be better -- I have been working to cut out Snacks. But, I am starting to worry that I will never get to goal. So, for those of you who are are 10+ months out from surgery, there must have been a point in time where your bod just stopped losing weight. Has anyone experienced that where the weight loss has stopped well short of the goal? How did you deal with that?
  2. Hello everyone!! I'll be going to see my surgeon in June to get a surgery date booked. I'm having a bit of a problem though, in order to get a surgery date I have to lose 5 to 10% of my current weight by my June appointment or my surgery date gets pushed back. Problem being, I keep eating horribly because I keep thinking "oh I won't be able to eat this after surgery so I better eat it now". Does anyone have any advice on how to stop having "food funerals"?! Thank you!!

Congratulations !!! Just wait until you go shopping for those jeans in size 8 or 10. On my surgery day a was wearing a size 20 jeans and I'm down to a size 12, last week I went to Macy's looking for those size 12 and I got lost in all the selections that they have in the smaller sizes, I think I got a little overwhelm from all the different kind of jeans that I could choose from. I was used to just go shopping to Lane Bryant. One more size down and I'll be at my goal. size 10 !!

    Update time

So I was sleeved on June 24th and I am very happy with where I am at and the progress am now 102 lbs from my highest weight which was 2 weeks before surgery and now 85 lbs since surgery Today I went to the gym and did 4 miles in 52 minutes on the treadmill feel more energy and so much better I do travel a lot so getting all my Protein in on the road is at times a challenge, but I am still learning and doing better and as I said all along, I was not going to go crazy on this strict food plan - i wanted to be realistic and practical, smart and yet not deny those things that i like but thanks to the tool really control my portions. so, I do eat a halloween size pack of Peanut M&Ms every now and then - so yes all 6-7 of them little candies - the old days it would been a whole pack I have had a bratwurst (no bun) at a football game I have had pizza ( mostly just the toppings and very little of the crust and its a thin crust) - if i have 2 slices of toppings that is a lot - compared to used to eating a WHOLE pie I do have the Skinny Cow 100 cal fudgesicle most nights when at home sometimes for Breakfast I have 2 slices of Cracker Barrel Cheeses (individually packaged so very nice) with a 100 cal Pack of Goldfish (nut said crackers were good to help with nausue on occasion from Chewable Multi-Vitamens and my biggest bad thing - I will drink diet soda - i get the small can 7 1/2 oz and drink slowly - used to drink 6-10 full 12 oz cans a day I do drink through a straw in public and yes at a restaurant i get soda and small sips when eating, but i have never emptied a glass So i am not perfect, but I am doing well and making progress, i could see how i could go backwards, but the portion controls is huge and I am eating so so so much better and working out so so so much more Used to wear a size 50-52 w pants and now i am doing 44-46 shirts were a 5XL and now 3Xls are almost to big Goodwill got 4 huge bags of clothes!!
  6. They often over prescribe b-12 to make sure you have proper liver funciton and unlike Vit A or E you wont become toxic if you have to much. B-12 if your body is at peak with it is Water... you body wont absorb what you don't need. I am on tripled the dose of a normal person cause of some medications I had when I was younger, even though its been 9-10 years I can STILL have after affects to my liver. I will be on B-12 for the rest of my life cause of the long term affects of that medication.

    band tight today

andielmt, We are like DITTO of eachother. I was banded on 11/19/07 too!! I was down 21 pounds by Christmas. I've lost 38 pounds, my stomach feels achey about an hour after I eat. I too can feel my band. My tummy just hurts sometimes. Not even after eating and it is NOT my port. It hurts at all times of the day. It doesn't seem to have a reason. I feel tight when I'm REALLY stressed out. I did my taxes last weekend and I got myself so worked up I gagged on two bites of chicken, it got stuck then I slimed in the toilet. I haven't PBed yet. I didn't notice any difference after my first fill on January 11th. I'm having a second one tomorrow. I was noticing I can eat more and more and I'm also at a plateau of sorts. 1 pound a week is a little slow.
  8. Hello all, I'm 7 days post surgery...I'm so happy I'm feeling better but nobody told me that I would have terrible shoulder pain from the gas inserted into my stomach during surgery would be so painful. It was more painful than childbirth..LOL my shoulder still aches but the pain is manageable because I'm active and walked daily. I slept on my back for 5 days straight because turning on my sides just hard so bad and I could fill my port moving. I really did not drink or eat much Soup for the first 5 days because of my shoulder pain. After the 6 day, I decided to eat kid cup of sugar free ice cream and had no problems. I also made some devil eggs on Sunday and was able to eat two devil eggs minus the relish with no problems . Well its Monday, 11/10/14 and I had my first post surgery appt. with my doctor. I jump on the scale with my shoes off:) I was so surprised that I lost 18 lbs. I'm so happy:) my doctor told me that when he placed my band he added 4cc of Fluid. I was shocked because I thought I would not get my first fill for several weeks? maybe that's why I did not want to drink much and felt content? I don't know. My doctor told me that he would not add any more fluid into my band if I continue to lose weight. I'm scheduled to go back for my 2nd doctor appt. on 12/08/14 I'm nervous because I plan on exercising and limiting my calories intake to 1200 or less but I really don't feel any restrictions? Any thoughts? Thanks Cindy

    Apology

I am very sorry I haven't been in to chat and visit with everyone. Unfortunately the lapband and weight loss has been the furthest from my mind as of late. My most favorite aunt has been suffering for a long time with cancer, they recently told her there was nothing more they could do for her, that she had 10 days to 10 weeks, go home drink martinis and enjoy the rest of your life. She did. And she left us Wednesday. I have been an emotional roller coaster since. I want to feel good about this. Finally she isnt suffering, there is no pain in eating and drinking, no pain in her body. But we (her entire extended family) were just not ready to let her go. I started the first day with Cookies, but soon started feeling like I needed to DO something. So I drained all 5000 gallons of my pool and leveled the ground beneth it properly, in the 102 degree (heat index) heat. The more the sweat poured off me the better I felt. Unfortunatly this hasnt made a dent in my weight but right now I just dont care. As long as I am moving and working I am ok. If I stop and be still I loose it. If I am alone, I loose it. And she would be very upset with me for that. So I work my butt off so I don't think about it. This has been my life lately. I will be back soon, I just need some time to get over this. All my best!

    High Blood Sugar AM

I am currently taking onglyza 5mg in the am and glimpiride 2 mg in the pm. Prior to surgery I was taking Janumet am & pm, glimpiride 4 mg am & pm as well as 10 units of Lantus at bedtime. I have tried Peanut Butter, string cheese, cream cheese & celery, a scrambled egg and a few bites of chicken or shrimp (just one or the other). I will just muddle through until I can get into my PCP.
  11. I've been lurking and reading and finally decided to creating an account . I went for my consult on 7/25 ... I have GHI.. hoping to have my surgery in 10/2017. My starting weight is 253 and I'm 5'2...

    Migraines

I have had horrible migraines since I was 16 and i'm 49 now. For about 10 years I was on Inderal to prevent them and that worked. My doctor just switched me to Verapamil because he said I had been on the Inderal to long. Even though I didn't get the migraines that often after starting the Inderal I still would get bad headaches. Since the surgery I don't get very many headaches. Now if I get one I can usually tell I haven't drank enough water that day. I take Tylenol and start drinking the water and they go away. I fiqure it was all the crap I used to eat that caused all the headaches. I'm not quite ready to stop the Verapamil because it scares me to death that they will come back. I would talk to your doctor about what to take just in case you do get one, because most of the over the counter meds for them we can't take.
  13. i wouldn't suggest lipodisolve. my bf had this done last yr after her 4th kid, and the injections caused hard knotts under the skin - that still remain. after paying 5k for 10 treatments (she only had 2) , they were shut down (dallas, tx) - and there is an ongoing class action suit. i would try the medical necessity route first. check the plastic surgery forum - there have been a few that have had PS paid for by insurance. good luck!!

Anyway I feel so excited to have this chance to save $ and love a child actually 10 teenage boys. OH MY GOD WHAT HAVE I DONE!!! just kidding. Anyway I think this will halp me get some structure in my life and hopefully I will start cooking at home and make healthier choices. 299/273/130 Dr. Spegiel
  15. I am bout 10 months post op and last weekend I had a terrible stomach flu which involved me vomiting quite violently for a full day. It calmed down and stopped and apart from shoulder pain which I get on and off occasionally and a little bit of port pain which again I get on and off, I have had no pain, the thing has me worried is that I have gone from having restriction to nothing at all. I have no reflux or trouble keeping things down but I am worried my band has slipped can anyone help?
  16. Ok, My high was 4 months ago. I went to the consultation thinking I was around 395, found out I was 441, could have been a negative but just it motivated me to move forward. Surgery weight was 422, and I currently weigh 395-401. (weighed today at 395, but the scale didnt go that high so it could be inaccurate as it went past 0 to 95) Just wanted to post to create accountability and meet some other's in similar situations. I am 6'6'' ex college football player, played between 350-375. My initial goal weight is 275 then I will reasses the situation. I havent been below 300 since I was 10! cant wait to get back in the two's Any insight or input is helpful and welcome
  17. Hi Everyone, I had my surgery 6-19-06. I have the Vanguard Band- my fill was 4cc, the second was 2cc. I have a total of 6cc. I had no srestriction after the first fill, after the second, I had a better restriction then it deminished. I am scheduled for another fill next week. For those of you who have hit the sweet spot- is this the way you progressed to obtaing the sweet spot. It just seems so odd that for the first week after my second fill, I was saying to myself "I've hit the sweet spot" and then I'm able to eat more but still less than I could before the previous fill. Thanks, Dwayne

    DON'T Give up!!

Good Morning fellow bandsters!! Just felt like i needed to beep in this morning and say a little something about being banded. I was banded 10 months ago. The first 8 months of being banded I was ''stuck'' in the fear mode because a lot of the time when i ate I started that horrible sliming that we all have once in a while. I knew I was eating too much although it was way over 1/2 less of what i would normally had eaten prior to being banded. That fear kept me stuck for 8 months without getting the proper fill-thus, weight loss was really low for being 8 months out. 30 lbs to be exact. I was afraid to go back to my doc because i didint want to hear how bad i was doing so i just keep doing what wasnt working----i finally gave up the fight and went to my doc and got another fill and last week got another fill again. i was down 16.7 lbs inbetween fills which was only 4 weeks. I can't tell you how grateful I am to be loosing weight and to be finally ''working'' the band the way it was intended to be worked. Sure, I still occasionally get that sliming deal if i eat too fast or something that doesnt agree w/ my band, but I'm loosing and that's what i signed up for----so, I guess what i'm saying is don't be afraid of fills-talk to your doctor and let him know what is going on.....I'm so grafteful I did .....i'm 10 months out and down almost 60lbs with another 50 to go, but as long as i'm honest with myself i know without a doubt that i will make it!!!! am i paranoid

Oh, I did the same thing. I decided I was well enough to refinish a bed 10 days after surgery, which included removing the client's tempurpedic matress. I was so stupid! I was very paranoid after because I was super sore around the port. I took the next 2 days off and just took it easy. Of course, call you doctor if you are worred. That is what they are there for!

    port pain

Update: The doc said everything was progressing just fine! The pain I am having is normal and should ease up over the next few weeks. Last night I used a heating pad on low and that seemed to help quite a bit. I weighed in 20 lbs down from my preop appt in mid Feb! I lost 4 lbs before my preop diet, 6lbs during the preop diet and 10 lbs since surgery 1 week ago. I also was approved to move on to soft foods. I'm thinking some refried beans thinned with a little salsa sounds good! Thanks to everyone for the advice and kind words, It is greatly appreciated!
  21. I got my surgery 5 months ago and since then Ive had 4 fills. I'm currently at 6.5 cc's. I feel no restriction and no different as to before surgery. I've lost 30lbs but I feel its only because I've really been pushing myself and began running 4 miles up steep hills 5 days a week and I limit myself on portions but find myself feeling hungry often. I got the band as a big aid in helping me lose weight but its saddening to feel like its been useless for me. I cut off so much food out of my life and changed my eating habits on my own. I feel like I can lose track at any moment and gain weight again. My bands max is 10 cc's and I was told average weight loss is 10lbs a month but that hasn't been my case and I'm starting to feel anxious and helpless. Anyone else out there experience my same issue?

    Newbie question

I had a total unfill because I couldn't stop losing. I have now maintained with an empty band for 19 months now. But that's just me. Most people need to maintain their fill level to maintain their weight.
  23. Received Precertification letter from Cigna with approval code stating that surgery was medically necessary and a covered benefit on 10/12/10. Had lapband surgery on 10/27. Now I'm in the 2nd appeal stage to get Cigna to pay my surgeon and hospital bills ($17,000 worth!!). How in the world can this be possible? Does anyone know what my next step should be if the 2nd appeal is denied? Has anyone ever had this happen to them. Should I hire a lawyer? It doesn't sound like the claim(s) have been processed correctly. I would like to help you with this. Please send me your contact info to SCR_isolve@cigna.com if you would like my assistance. Hopefully we can figure this out together!
  24. Hi all, My name is Brittaney Ede and I am a third year nutrition student at CQUniversity Rockhampton, Queensland. I am conducting a study to determine whether nutrient deficiencies exist in Sleeve Gastrectomy patients after 2 years of having the sleeve. As someone who has personally undergone a Sleeve Gastrectomy, I have always been curious to note whether my issues (namely iron, calcium and vitamina D deficiencies) are reciprocated in the greater SG population, and whether practice should be changed to offer more support to those who are struggling with their health. As I am only one person, I need your help to gather data for my research. I have created a survey containing 22 multiple choice questions about you and your surgery, it will take no longer than 10 minutes to complete. I am looking for women between the ages of 21-45 who had their surgery 6months-7 years ago. If this is you CLICK on this link to complete my survey --> https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/GastricSleeveCQU Thank you, Brittaney
  25. I had my surgery Feb of 2013. At first all was going well, I never felt any restriction, I didn't have any complications. My progress went great at first, until I started back on solid foods. I didn't have problems adjusting to a solid food diet afterwards, and little by little I started eating a bit more, and a bit more. I guess I've pretty much just hit a wall as far as the surgery is concerned. I didn't follow through like I should have, so instead of the usual "surgery failed me" posts, this is my "I failed my surgery" plea for any assistance. I had surgery with Dr. Kim in Colleyville, and after recent contacts from his staff as well as their "awesome" support group leaders, it appears unless I have a revision surgery I'm on my own with getting back on track. I've put on about 30 pounds back, I started at over 400 and I'm sitting around 330 right now, so there was some success, I'd just like to get back on track and get to my overall goal weight of 260. Anyone been in this position before, and what did you do to start things back up? I'm working out, I hike about 10-15 miles a week, and I mountain bike 20-25 miles a week (just started back up). I carry a pretty good amount of muscle mass from my powerlifting days, but have recently retired from competitive lifting so I'm not lifting as heavy weights, or as often.
